drunken phone CALL my beloved

i actually had to open it up to remember if this was the one i published or not aldsfkjlas bc my ORIGINAL plan for the drunk phone call fic was for it to be a 5+1 (five times buck called eddie drunk and one time eddie called him - which i might still write honestly) and then it evolved into more a fic about buck and family and him getting the courage to tell eddie how he felt! but this was the file that ended up being the one published and i had a lot of fun writing it!! (link here) and honestly i slayed the title i'm not going to lie.

i might revisit this fic and make some edits as i get better at writing bc i think there's some improvements to be made but overall i'm really proud of this fic! i tried to avoid some things that annoyed me about a lot of buddie fics and also tried to emphasize that eddie and chris aren't buck's only family! the entire 118 is and I wanted that to be a big part of why Buck felt comfy telling Eddie his feelings - he had a family to back him up and catch him if he fell!

18. The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year?

a hilarious reverse to the question i just got from shan lmao but it was a pretty equal split between zuko and sokka in mallrat chpt 5, purely bc i know that if i had written in the direction that they wanted to go in then i was going to have to add on chapters and throw off the loose 5+1 structure that the fic is already just barely clinging to. so i refused them <3

(the argument was originally going to cause a bigger rift that would've needed more time to heal, bc mallrat is nothing if not dramatic. the entire scene is actually written out, squirreled away to be picked at for other future fics lol)

27. What do you listen to while writing?

LOVE this question just like i LOVE procrastinating on writing to make playlists for nearly every wip i have!!!

my mooncusser playlist gets played when i need to write serious/angsty scenes, nsfw wips get a vaguely-sensual playlist when i don't feel like rummaging for raunchier ones. and mallrat technically has an official playlist but i've also built out a specific one for chpt 6 that's just full of schoompy songs and vibes as i write very schoompy for this last chapter lol

ohhh oh okay forgive me i'm gonna give a couple bc i've published so little this year and looking through the things i've written for this is actually helping the writer's block lift a little lmao so! this bit from mallrat chpt 5:

Zuko had stayed, waited. Hoped, maybe, that he would come back, and Sokka may be sinking in some sorrowful quicksand, but that alone makes him feel like he can still touch the earth below. It’s soft, tenuous, pushing his toes down too hard could have him falling right through—and yet, if he can figure out the right weight distribution of his feet, then maybe he can regain his footing. Take those steps through the doors of the tea shop, meet Zuko where he’s at, and pray that he at least hesitates in kicking him back out. If he can keep his head up long enough to breathe through the fog, in through the nose, out through the mouth, then maybe the words will return. Zuko will look at him—he likes looking at him—and he’ll glare, he’ll probably interrupt the entire time, but there’s still the odds that he’ll listen. Hear out Sokka’s explanations, entertain his apologies.

“I wasn’t lying—” a second battle of the legs, another deadlock. Sokka huffs, then screws his face up when it accidentally syncs with Zuko’s. “I’m just trying to do my job here, Sokka. The whole point of us being in this sub—” “This isn’t a sub,” he cuts in. The combination of quiet exasperation from the speakers and Zuko’s dramatic eyeroll aren’t nearly as good as cries of mercy after a (masterful) pun, but he still turns to the now empty rockbed satisfied. “This is a bathyscaphe.” Zuko groans loudly, and in his periphery Sokka can see him lean forward—barely, able to move only mere inches before stopping just short of hovering over his shoulder. “Then tell me the difference between those two! Pretend like you’re explaining it to the people who’ll be watching this, if you have to, but at some point you have to answer my questions instead of spouting off puns every five minutes!” “Well, whalecome to what it’s like working with me,” Sokka snarks. He punctuates his point with a stabbing finger, then quickly reels it back when it comes closer to Zuko’s chest than intended. “And like I said after the first time, if you’re gonna have a fish-ue with it then you better kelp that to yourself—” There’s a fleeting twitch to Zuko’s nose, a hint of a smile that’s smothered a touch too slowly, and Sokka’s brows fly up. He knows what a choked down laugh sounds and looks like, and close enough like this, Zuko can’t hide. Even with his mouth obscured, Sokka can read his mirth elsewhere, in his crinkled eyes and partially-exposed dimple, the awkward throat clearing and minute quivering of those well-defined shoulders.

roxy's music tastes i feel is p clearly defined throughout the fic. i dont remember if you talked about her dad's and if maybe that influenced it? would also love to know ur thoughts on the rest of the cast's music tastes pre-btr

imo i feel like even tho the series is based on a musical group, theres not much music based storylines? so its rly fun to read more of the music side of things with roxy <3

RAHHHHH THANK YOU FOR ASKING... i spend a lot of time thinking about roxy's musical interest but i don't spend much about the rest of the cast aside from a few offhanded mentions here and there. this was a challenge to put together but it was so fun! <3

the main thing i want to mention before i dive into oc music taste is the presence of music surrounding my story! every chapter title, song mentioned, musical influence etc i'm trying to keep within the timeframe + past in which the story takes place. as someone who was not really aware of popular radio in 2009, this is a very fun challenge for me.

It features the song where I got the title of the fic first, then the chapter titles! (and a sneak peak of the next few titles of unreleased chapters <3) These songs aren't meant to reflect anything onto the characters, it's basically just my own music taste fitting the chapters.

what type of music does your oc like? Like you said, her music taste is pretty clearly defined! She's into just a bit of everything, though prefers pop and rock music above all else. Since she worked at a radio station, she was lucky enough to have access to all sorts of music, and when the station went digital, the owner let her keep all of the ancient cassette tapes they used to store everything on! Through combing through these albums from across many generations, she's been able to cultivate what she's into on her own, though her biggest musical influence is definitely her dad! If he wasn't into punk/rock she wouldn't be either. do they listen to music very often? Yes! I don't show this too often in my fic, but I think she listens to music a lot because she prefers it to silence - especially when she's alone in her apartment. What she listens to depends on her mood, and she has a bunch of different mix tapes she's made/she's found to match. So one of those could be on, one of her favorite albums could be on, or she could just pull her iPod out and put that little thing on shuffle to let the machine decide... 2. Declan Somerset

what type of music does your oc like? Declan is a rock/punk/metal kinda guy but specifically the sub-genre of these types of music that culminate into local gigs at shit dive bars and basement shows. As a youngin he stumbled into a basement show with some of his friends (soon to be bandmates) and just loved the atmosphere so much he roped his friends into making their own band so they could be active participants in their community. He's the kinda guy to be like "oh, yeah, i like this band, they're super underground idk if you know them" but like... he's right. No one else in Minnesota is listening to Rainbow Sludge Baby Guts Explosion or Sexy Fishing Rod Brigade or whatever that band he saw last night was called. For him, it's not so much about the actual music, but the community surrounding it, but he would love to hit the stage and shred again if someone let him! do they listen to music very often? When Roxy was home, he would listen to whatever she had on! Her music listening habits didn't change from Minnesota to California, so whatever she put on was just background to him. Now that she's gone, he finds the house is a lot more quiet than it used to be. The only time he really finds himself listening to music is if he's at a show or if he's playing it himself. musical things this character has mentioned/is observed liking: - Nothing concrete yet! Perhaps will be expanded on in future chapters <3

3. Carlos

what type of music does your oc like? Very briefly mentioned in chapter 18 but Carlos is a big fan of Latin music, show tunes, and hip hop! I imagine growing up in a household with three generations of Hispanic individuals really helped cultivate his taste in this way. I personally do not know much about Latin music, show tunes, or hip hop music, but I imagined while they were on the plane he had Roxy listen to a lot of Selena because he though she specifically would like her music a lot. Homie was bumping El Chico Del Apartemento 512 so hard trying to get her to vibe with it while she was like half conscious and trying to not get sick lmaoo. As for hip hop, I think that was something he discovered for himself once he entered high school. Artists like Jay-Z, Eminem, 50 Cent amaze him with how they're able to get their point across and he likes to try and learn the words as a challenge (though he is not very good at it) and he also likes to make up his own dances. It's also good hockey hype music, he likes to listen to it before games. And show tunes... I truly know nothing about musicals so I cannot speak to specifics but he likes them because (in my unposted james POV chapter which will come out eventually) he used to try out for school musicals a lot. He likes the flare and the dramatics! do they listen to music very often? Back home, yes, before hockey games, before auditions, around his house, but now that music is literally his entire life he finds he's getting that fix at work and doesn't really need to listen to it on his own anymore. musical things this character has mentioned/is observed liking: - Green Day - Taylor Swift (because i said so!!!) - The Pussycat Dolls - Big Time Rush - Jordin Sparks (Honorarily bc they were mentioned in this post) - Selena - Jay-Z - Eminem - 50 Cent

what type of music does your oc like? </3 His ass is so boring his only taste in music is what's on the radio. Though... his performance of Girl 2 My Heart in the first ep of the show makes me believe he actually liked some of the 90s boy band stuff! There is hope yet. Also, not in the story, but I think after his and Roxy's little scene in the fourth chapter he listened to some Oasis and was like "what the fuck. no." Too jock to rock... Tragic... But his issue before BTR was that he liked music but never found anything he liked enough. do they listen to music very often? Only at work, only when he's learning a song, only when he's trying to snoop on whatever Roxy's writing. 5. Logan

what type of music does your oc like? Oh my GOD Logan is so into rap music it isn't even funny. Everything about it is just so exciting to him! The technical composition of the beat, the eloquence of the lyrics and how they're strung perfectly together, the performance of it all, the messages... It's like a big equation to him, and he loves it! He and Carlos often bond over this, because rap is a sub-genre of hip hop if I'm not mistaken. Artists like 2Pac, Snoop Dogg, DMX... We see the vision hopefully and I apologize for not being more knowledgeable in the rap/hip hop genre to provide more than common generalizations. He also really likes instrumental music! As we saw in chapter 16, he also enjoys being in a room in which Roxy is playing either the guitar or the piano! do they listen to music very often? Yes... This man is somehow able to study and listen to music at the same time, so he'll hit his playlist and hit the books. AKA he's listening to it a lot when he's alone. And as previously mentioned, he'll also seek out Roxy to play him some instrumental tracks too. It's good for him, no silence when he studies, and good for her, she gets to practice. 6. James

what type of music does your oc like? Oh, James... In the same vein as Kendall, he likes whatever's on the radio, but simply because that is what's popular and he himself is popular. So pop music, for sure, is his favorite genre and it's easily accessible through the radio or his phone or whatever so he's always keeping up with the latest! In addition, however, I think he really likes R&B and soul-type music as well as a by-product of living with his mother. There's a reason he chose a Smokey Robinson song to sing at his audition and not something on popular radio, right? Part of it is because he has a really smooth voice that flows right along into the R&B/Soul type genre, but also I'd say it's mostly his mom's influence. Her son should know the "classics!" Also like previously mentioned, he's big into show tunes! It's mentioned a bit in chapter 19 hehe. He's very good at convincing Carlos to try out for school musicals with him, so they practiced a bunch together after school hockey practice <3 And of course... He likes whatever Roxy plays... And wishes she'd play for him the same way she does for Logan... do they listen to music very often? I'd say his music listening is moderate... Not as much as Roxy and Logan but far more than Kendall! In Minnesota, his mom would play her music bc she's so controlling lol... So whenever he was on the way to school/friends' houses/dates/whatever he'd pop on the radio to catch up with the latest and the greatest. what type of music does your oc like? Two words: Boy bands. It's as simple as that! I'd also say this blends into mentions of popular music, but if she has a choice she's putting Backstreet on no QUESTION. That and movie soundtracks, I'd say, but only for the cheesy supernatural romances she likes. I know she's bumping the Twilight soundtrack near daily (as she damn well should be). Also, I know she's from North Carolina but she doesn't really feel like a country girl to me... idk Being friends with Roxy and dating Kendall is like her perfect musical dream. do they listen to music very often? Yes! Like Roxy, Jo doesn't really like silence. I imagine she listens to music most when she's running lines and trying to flesh out the characters she's trying out for. Once again: listening to the Twilight soundtrack while running lines for New Town High... God I love her. what type of music does your oc like? I'm not going to lie to yall i've literally thought about this for hours and I just have no idea. in the show i know she was in their camp rock spoof, so maybe show tunes? but thinking about her sitting down and listening to like... Hello, Dolly! just doesn't feel like her. my best response is that she absorbs her music taste through her friends like osmosis. Jo and Roxy like boy bands? Great, now Camille does too! Logan is rocking out to Beastie Boys? Camille is excited to be a part of it. I also know that very briefly she mentions knowing how to figure skate, so maybe even like classical music? but that feels far too mellow for her... She likes Big Time Rush and that's enough for me to say she at the least enjoys pop music. What do we think gang?? do they listen to music very often? Is there a fic or idea for a fic that you've abandoned?

I'd like to say I haven't abandoned any fic ideas because the truth is, I'm still thinking about a lot of them; I'm just not writing them. DX

But I think there are at least 3 Harringrove fic AUs that I once came up with but then abandoned:

Harringrove Detective/Rich Boy AU - as much as I love crime stuff, I absolutely cannot write any myself and I won't even try. :'D As much as some people in the notes were wishing that I wrote this AU someday, it's just not happening. My simple mind cannot unfortunately wrap around something as complicated as this. I wouldn't mind it if somebody else gave it a try though *hint hint*.

Harringrove Nurse/Patient AU - this one was very self-indulgent AU for me because it was partly inspired by my own, real-life experiences. But given the subject and other stuff going on in my life, I could never finish writing this one. And I don't think I ever will tbh. I really liked the idea but I just couldn't do it in the end.

Harringrove Daylight AU - Daylight (1996) is actually one of my favorite action movies from the 90's, and once upon a time I got this little inspiration to build a Harringrove AU around it. xD Which I kind of desperately wanted to write but. I don't know, I doubt I ever will.

Is there a fic you wish had gotten more attention?

Hmm, not at the moment, no. I think I got pretty lucky with all the fics on my ao3 so far (I've only written for ST so far, though that's about to change), so I'm good. Really. <3

What genre do you have the toughest time writing?

Like I said above, crime is one of those things that I probably couldn't do very well because it takes a lot of planning, details etc., and I'm just not very good at those in general. Same goes with horror I suppose. Like, I love horror as much as I love crime, and while I did attempt to write a horror-ish story a long time ago in one of my older fandoms, I ended up abandoning it eventually because it became hard to write for me. Wish I could but I just can't. *sniffs*

Birthdays are a rather new celebration for them, but it isn't beyond recognition to at least one of five batchers. Despite the dislike of the cold, Echo offers to Itsuki a case held in left hand, bucket tipped as hidden smile barely pulls at the lips. "Hey, kid... heard it was your birthday. It's not much, but... everyone deserves to celebrate." He knows her village likely has, but he offers the gift regardless. A scarf tucked into metal casing, the soft-knit material a mixture of blues, greens, silver and stray strands of grey. "These days, the galaxy isn't the friendliest place. At the very least, you can keep warmer when you start to travel out there --- space is a lot colder than you think." And within the scarf lay a set of sweet treats bundled together sloppily with a ribbon ( snowflake designs he recalled from their last visit ). "Sorry about the decoration. . . Wrecker had a little too much fun with the process, I'm afraid."

THIS HERE BATCH-A BROS always had a way of pleasantly surprising her, didn't they? After all, they ain't called the BAD BATCH for nothing! At least, that's what Itsuki herself liked to believe... That's right! They were called that because they were the ROOTINEST TOOTINEST BATCH around!

But anyway-- she was digressin'.

"How did'ja--"

It had been quite some time since she'd last seen them, and understandably so when considering all the shenanigans that they would get up to out there. And so, no matter rain or shine (Or blizzard), Itsuki was always OVER THE MOON to see them drop on by her side of the galaxy.

But, with that said... Itsuki was pretty sure that she hadn't even had the chance to cheekily hint to her about her birthday! And so, someway, somehow, they must-a found out aout it all by themselves! Heck, they even came prepared with a PRESENT. And aww shucks, they didn't need to go through all this trouble for little ol' her!

She was already embracing the bro, before even accepting the offered gift. Rather easily minding any lil' corners that of his armour, while she did. Thanking him over, and over, and over again. Her words and tone ever so giddy, almost as if she had truly received the GREATEST GIFT IN THE WHOLE WIDE UNIVERSE! And maybe it was just that, simply getting to be FRIENDS with these sweet boys, who would still take the time to come on by and celebrate her very special day!

"Ain't nothin' y'all gotta apologise fer, bro!" Itsuki was quick to assure, as delighted giggles followed soon after whilst she pulled back to look up at him. Amusedly imagining to the sight of the WRECKER BRO having a great time, decorating this gift for lil' ol' her!

As she would graciously accept the gift then with both hands, Itsuki wouldn't waste much time in carefully fishing the scarf out (So none of them sweet treats wounded up falling out of the case itself). Tossing it across her shoulders (And over her already present neck scarf), and TICKLED PINK over how wonderfully it actually matched with whatever else she already had on!

"And brrrr-- yer right-a 'bout dat, bro." It was a biting (Pretty dang shocking) fact that she admittedly had to come to terms with. That what awaited for her out there-- would be even colder than the most freezing of blizzards right here on KORI! "But oohhh, does this scarf feel real nice! Uhm gonna wear it ALWAYS, 'specially once ah git out thar m'self!"

And hopefully, she will get to go out there alongside them, one of these days!

"... Hey, ya know what would make this all just-a lil' more perfect, bro?" Reaching her hand out to his then, Itsuki's grin grew, "If y'all stuck around fer the celebration! So, why don't-cha call the rest-a yer boys on down? Ah ain't gone let y'all leave till ya git some nice warm food in yer bellies!"

suga! i think this is one reason i can see them being good for each other because iwaizumi is pretty good at like... grounding him? i think that's the word i'm looking for. like he's been doing it for oikawa for years so he's a pro at it.

You and Sevika took a trip to the last drop, sitting by her side while she played a game of poker. Her mechanical arm was slung around your shoulders, and in her other hand, she held a few cards along with her cigarillo between her middle and pointer finger.

She had a good hand, chuckling to herself as the man across from her ultimately gave up, throwing his cards on the table. When she laughed, you could see the smoke waft out of her nose. You watched as she threw her own cards down, now bringing up her cigarillo to her lips to take a drag. She flicked some ash to the side and stubbed it out on a very worn ash tray.

The man who was obviously irritated cursed at Sevika, "I ain't givin' you no fuckin' money. Shit is rigged."

He crossed his arms almost like a child who got told off for staying up too late. Sevika groaned in displeasure at the mans words, "I am not in the mood for this."

"Neither am I lady!"

Sevikas lip twitched in annoyance before turning to you who was still tucked under her arm, "Why don't you go grab us a drink princess," She spoke to you, trying to lessen the frustration in her voice.

Her calloused hand rubbed at your knee before pulling her opposite arm away from your shoulders. You looked at her with concern in your eyes, and she motioned with a tilt of her head towards the bar. On that note, you got up, brushing swiftly past the man across from her to get to the bar counter across the room.

You could hear the mans booming voice yell something else at Sevika and the unmistakable sound of Sevika's mechanical arm hitting the table with a loud bang. The rest of their argument faded into the distance as you walked up to the bar. "Hey, can I get two whiskey sour's?" You hollered at the bartender.

He gave a nod of understanding before turning around to whip up your drinks. You didn't even bother to take out any coins, as you knew it was going on Sevika's tab.

A lanky but somewhat toned man sat down beside you. He was wearing a sleeveless vest paired with some black jeans. "You here all by yourself gorgeous?" He questioned in a sultry tone.

You shivered at his words. Usually, when people came up to you, they were less.. forward. Before you could respond, two drinks were slammed down on the table in front of you before the bartender walked away to tend to another customer.

"Aw, and you got a drink for me. How thoughtful," The mans rank breath hit your face, and you scowled when he picked up one of the drinks before taking a swig.

"No... I'm here with someone, sorry—" Your statement fell short as the man scooted his stool closer to yours.

He leaned into your face, the stench of alcohol invaded your nose. Cringing, you moved, upper back hitting the back of the stool. You could see his eyes inspecting the curves of your face, trailing down to your lips, then lower.

You put your hands on his shoulders in retaliation, "Please, im trying to get back to–"

His clammy hands gripped your legs, now smirking down at you. He trailed his fingertips up your thighs before you jumped up out of your seat, pushing him away from you.

He huffed as you stumbled back, almost tripping on the leg of your stool. You didn't say anything as you stepped away from him. When you turned to Sevikas table, you felt his hand on your wrist. Fuck. She wasn't sitting at the table anymore. A wave of panic washed over you. A small tear rolled down your face.

But before he could pull you backwards a large figure swiftly ran up beside you and a loud thwack was heard behind your head. The thwack of a fist colliding with flesh.

You squeezed your eyes shut, pulling your now free hand to your chest. Hearing a familiar mechanical whirr from your side, you opened your eyes to look at Sevika's large form towering over the man. The veins in her neck were popping, her jaw clenched. Her fist had connected straight into the mans jaw.

His body was slumped over the bar, knocking the two drinks over. His nose was busted and bleeding. Eyes widening in recognition he couldn't do anything in retaliation as she was basically pinning him to the bar.

The steel grey of her eyes were filled with anger, she delivered another punch to the mans face. Being careful of you, she grabbed him by the collar with her human hand and a long blade slid out from her prosthetic. "What the fuck is wrong with you," Her usually smoky voice was heavy.

The blade prodded at his neck.

A shrill cry came from the man as she dropped him onto the ground near your feet. She stomped on his back while he was down, shoe digging into his back. You could hear a bone crunch under Sevika's foot. You flinched at this but you moved forward to push her off of the man. "Sevika that's enough," You spoke, panicked.

She growled and whipped her head around to you, you could hear the blade slide back into her arm as she gently (kind of) grabbed your shoulder, "Are you okay?"

Her eyes softened at the tear streak on your face. When she stepped towards you, the clink of coins was heard from the pouch on her belt. She got the money. Before the situation could escalate further, you pulled her to the double doors of the bar. "Crazy bitch!" The man yelled, his voice strained from the pain.

You could feel the resistance when you pulled her out of the establishment. She didn't want to leave. Cool air hitting your face as you opened the door. You stepped to the side and turned to her.

"Should have let me kill him," She quipped.

You couldn't tell if that was a joke or not. "No, im okay," you said, looking down at your shoes.

She pulled your face up with two fingers so she could look at your face. Gently touching your face with her mechanical hand (the one she almost killed that creep with), she frowned. "I shouldn't have made you leave."

You could see the small beads of sweat dripping down her forehead and the veins in her arm. The swell of her bicep flexed whilst she held your face.

"No, it's okay. It's his fault, not yours," You attempted to calm the woman down.

She shook her head and pulled her hand away to sweep it through her hair, her bloodied knuckles contrasted on her skin. "Lets go home, ill make it up to you."

She slung her mechanical arm over your shoulder, the way she did at the bar. But her poncho that covered her arm draped around your shoulders, shielding you from the frosty air.

Leaning into her touch, you hummed, liking the sound of home.
