I was tagged by the incredibly lovely @water-writings thank you mel!! and wow, am i so excited to catch up in birds of a feather now!!!
In a surprise to no one, I am once again writing liminal spaces. titans s3 spoilers!
“If it’s not what I need I’ll kill you,” she called back, not bothering to face him. Once she turned around the bend, she smacked right into someone.
Jumping back, she stashed the roll in her jacket and pulled an arrow, pointing it at the man.
“Hey, Hey, my name is Dick Grayson, I need to talk to you,” he explained calmly, hands up.
“About?” she didn’t lower the bow.
“Bruce Wayne and Jason Todd,” as soon as he said it, she turned around.
“Sorry, I don’t know who they are,” she said, walking away.
“Yes, Katherine, you do,” at that she stopped, shooting an arrow just above his shoulder.
“What do you want Nightwing?” she asked, looking around to make sure no one could hear.
“Me and Barbra are gonna be at Bruce’s tonight, it would mean a lot to me if you came,” Dick said.
“Yeah, I don’t think I can make it, sorry,” Kay said, securing the bow around her back.
“I’m pretty sure it’s gonna end up a kind of wake for Jason, you should be there. Wayne Manor, tonight,” Dick left it at that, walking out of the Alley. Kay grabbed her arrow with a sigh, turning in the direction of her current hideout.
Kay looked at the entrance and severely considered leaving, instead choosing to ring the doorbell. Dick answered, giving her a smile. She didn’t return it, walking in.
“Can I take your jacket?” he asked, holding out his hand. Kay shrugged it off, and gently threw it at him. He caught it, hanging it on the hook.
“I’m glad you came,” he said, starting to walk to another room.
“Keep making a deal out of it and I’ll leave,” Kay threatened. Dick just nodded, and they walked in silence.
The room they entered was lit just as weirdly as the rest of Wayne Manor, but she could see so she wouldn’t complain. Bruce was sat down on one of the couches, and made no move to acknowledge her presence.
“Would you like something to drink?” Dick asked, gesturing to the drink cart.
“I’m eighteen,” Kay responded, not bothering to keep the flatness out of her tone.
“Wow, I didn’t know you were so …,” Dick didn’t finish the comment, and thankfully the bell rang a minute later. He left to get it, leaving them alone.
“Katherine, it’s nice to see you,” Bruce said, in a casual way that made her want to slap him.
“Feelings not mutual old man,” Kay responded, twisting her hands together.
“So, Bluejay?” he asked.
“I didn’t choose it, and it’s still better than Batman,” she responded.
They were saved from further conversation by the arrival of Barbra Gordon.
“Kay, I didn’t know you were coming, it’s good to see you,” Babs greeted, wheeling till she was next to the spot Kay had chose to stand.
“It’s nice to see you too,” Kay said, giving her a weak smile.
“Would you like to sit down?” Dick asked, talking a seat near Bruce. Kay shook her head no.
“Drink Barbra?” Dick asked, and she nodded. Kay watched him make it without asking further questions. Once she had it, he sat back down, and they settled into silence.
Kay realized she had been in this room before, back on a day when Jason insisted she help him visualize a crime scene. They spent a good hour acting out the crime and pushing each other against walls. The fun ended when Jason broke a priceless vase and they had to flee the scene.
Kay tuned back in, realizing everyone else was in a conversation.
