Hello! I've been following your account for a while now and I absolutely love your ocs 💕 With My Time at Evershine upcoming and the future shift towards Menkya, I'm excited to learn more about the Alaqa tribe in the future!
I was wondering what inspired you in the making of them? And if there are any specific cultures they draw from? Their semi-nomadic lifestyle, shamanism and time spent in the snowy mountains reminded me a lot of Sámi culture! ❤️
Hello hello !
First of all, thank you so much for your kind words and support ♡. It truly means the world to me. Knowing you've been following my work for so long and enjoy my ocs really motivates me to keep sharing my creations!
When I first started playing My Time at Sandrock, I never imagined I’d feel so inspired by the game and its lore that I’d end up creating my own fan lore haha even less that Pathea would put their next game exaclty where I placed my little people lol.
It all started when I learned that the developers took a research trip to the Gobi Desert for Sandrock. Wanting to create a character that fit seamlessly into that world, I turned to Mongolian culture for inspiration and was absolutely fascinated by their nomadic lifestyle, customs, and traditions. From there, the Alaqa tribe and Sandara, along with her sister Menkya were born tadaaa!
The nomadic mongolian culture is still the main inspo but I also took a lot of inspirations from the Ghibli film Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind for the plot. Also from the games Horizon Zero Dawn and The Last Guardian !
Oh! I never really knew about Sámi culture but now that you’ve pointed it out and I’ve done some research, I must say I’m totally in love with the snowy landscapes and all those colorful outfits 🥰Thank you for the recommendation. It’ll be a great source of inspiration for the Alaqa tribe’s mountain lore!
Alright this post is already way too long aaaaaaa, so to finish I must say I’m very thrilled to have this opportunity to expand the Alaqa tribe’s story with Menkya’s journey in My Time at Evershine, Sandara’s emotional return to her homeland, and the introduction of “N,” another key Alaqa character tied to the girls.
Once again, thank you so much for your support, it truly means everything to me 🫶. I hope I can share these stories created with so much love and passion soon and embark on new adventures with Menkya and N, alongside new friends like Miss Wisteria Birck perhaps? :3
Little bonus because when I say I was inspired I really meant it lol here’s a little Alaqa alphabet chart I made and if you want to know how Sandara or Menkya would write your ocs names 🩷
