Hello, everyone! Today, I’m excited to introduce you to my final project, which focuses on feminism, specifically the representation of women and femininity. I will discuss the stereotypical aspects of women seen as feminine, exploring the different types of femininity and how these concepts have been both invented and nourished by men.

I chose this subject for two main reasons. First, as a woman, I feel personally involved in this matter. Second, with 7.95 billion people on this planet, 49.75% of whom are women, it’s significant to recognize that we still feel and are often considered a minority, despite being half of the world’s population. This feeling permeates our everyday lives, influencing how we express ourselves, behave, and navigate the world.

For this project, I will focus on the female artist ILUKA and her song "Wings," which was released on October 4, 2024. In this song, she clearly evokes and describes a woman’s position in a world created by men. I will explore several aspects of feminine representation, particularly the image men have constructed of femininity, including the sexualization of women’s bodies that limits their freedom of expression and the pressure to be perfect.

Additionally, I will address the struggles women face due to these standards and how ILUKA attempts to free herself from this patriarchal society through her music. My discussion will cover women throughout history, with a particular focus on the current generation and the evolution of women’s representation, as well as the various fights against this "men-focused" image of women.

For my sources, I will draw from various songs by female artists, including:

- ILUKA - "Wings"

- Raye - "Ice Cream Man"

- Paris Paloma - "Labour"

- Black women singers of the blues, such as Ma Rainey and Bessie Smith

- Ekaterina Shelehova - "Savage Daughter" (covered by Sarah Hester Ross)

I will also incorporate materials from our course, books I’ve read, and relevant historical events.

You helped death in ways no other person could you have been there for him no matter what.

He fell in love with you when he realized how much you were alike.

You soon became his assistant, he gave you your very own sickle for days that there were many souls to collect.

You had a small clipboard of what you have the names of the souls he needed to collect.

However there was days where he had people fight him to keep their life.

Specially one that you tell your friends together is the time a guy who was a criminal but not in the good way.

The guy robbed from poor and rich people so one day when his soul came up to collect from his heart failure.

It was a gloomy day the god of light had felt sick so the rain god had to take over and keep the weather into a rainy and gloomy day.

The guy was running from death as the wolf gained on him.

“You will never get me bounty hunter”! He yelled knocking straight into you.

“We aren’t bounty hunters, he’s death he has to collect your soul you said from under him.

Getting up the guy kicked you to the side and kept running.

“Well I’m not gonna let death have my soul today”! He yelled as you held your shoulder.

“Fuck that hurt for a guy with heart failure he can kick pretty hard”. You said as death helped you up.

“Stay here I’ll get him amor”. Muerte said giving you a quick kiss on your shoulder.

Not to far up ahead the guy hid and waited to jump onto deaths back.

“Alright amigo your not gonna live for much longer so why don’t you just give it up”. Death said not aware about the guy who was about to jump on his back.

“Never lobo”! He yelled and muerte yelped out for a second as he felt hands grip his fur pulling him backwards.

Elbowing the guy death turned to the guy on the ground.

“Amor”. Death said and you popped out of no where beside him.

“Check him off”. Death said, “are you and that cunt together or something?”

A cocky voice coming from the man and murete growled before killing him.

You simply grabbed your pencil and checked his name off.

“Finally he’s gone”. You said murete turned back to you some blood on his poncho.

You grimaced, “I’m gonna have to wash that for you my love”. You commented placing a kiss on his cheek.

He only grinned and wrapped his arms around you the rain pouring once more.

“That makes both of us”.

You chuckled at his joke and walked your hand in his paw going home.

Although it gives you a witchy feeling that would fit great with a BBC Merlin magical character, the rebellious and freeing vibes make me think on your Gondor Girl concept as well.

Yes!!! I’ve heard the song. I actually follow her on TikTok. And I agree, it would definitely fit with a magical Merlin character. Gwaine would fall head over heels in love with her. And she’d roll her eyes at him, but smile to herself because he is so very charming even though she doesn’t want him to be. Anyway!

16: biggest internal fear?

Feeling helpless. She was kept in a government lab and experimented on for about three years from around age 13 to age 16, and that definitely left some psychological scars. She absolutely hated how she felt in the lab, how she would beg for the experiments to stop, beg for mercy, and not only would she be ignored, she was unable to do anything about her situation.

18: are they allowed to say fuck?

Absolutely. She swears like a sailor most of the time.

28: show us a song you associate with the OC

There’s a song that I learned in my medieval reenactment group called Savage Daughter, which I definitely associate with Seraph. It’s originally by Wyndreth Berginsdottir, but the version you’ll find online is a cover by Sarah Hester Ross. Beyond that, I have songs that I associate more with the setting than the character. Seraph is the assistant director of a summer camp for mutant kids (more on that coming soon, probably) so a lot of these songs are songs that I associate with summer camp. In that category, there’s take on me, don’t stop believin’, bohemian rhapsody, country roads, and cotton-eye joe

7. What heroine (dead or living) would you like to have a conversation with and what would you ask her about the struggles of womanhood?  Anne Boleyn. I don’t know if I’d ask much. I would rather tell her how brave she was to embrace who she was fearlessly after being sold off basically to Henry VIII like a prized filly. I’d maybe ask her if she ever felt afraid knowing what a thin line she walked as a woman who refused to behave.

8. If you were in a James Bond-esque franchise, what would your signature cocktail be (even if you don’t drink, just hypothetically)? Really good gin, sparkling water and a twist of lime. Or maybe just a Harp. 🍺

9. What is your most prized possession? I have 2. My Haynes flute and an old tape of my grandparents and aunts and uncles talking and laughing. They are all gone now.

10. If you were a plant/flower/tree/herb etc. what kind would you be? I’d be that weed blooming into a flower out of a crack in the sidewalk.

11. What is your favorite city/town, even if you’ve never been there? Does Middle Earth count? ;)

Favorite color: Pink. If you knew just how much pink I had in my room...lol. It is so sad. But I am also partial to blue...but mostly pink :D.

Last song: Moonlight Reflections by Danae Dorken from Odyssee was the last song I listened to only because I am at work and I play the piano station on apple music as it is a medical office and piano music has a calming vibe. Currently reading: I have a lot of editing to do on my fic, so really I am reading my own story, lol. Reforged and Strengthened ACT V I think I am on chapter...9 now. I did JUST finish The Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros. Yet another book my bestie made me read, she even bought it for me because she wanted someone to talk to about it with. It is actually a good book...I did skim a certain smut filled chapter...I don’t mind reading a bit of it, especially if there is plot, but too much and I sort of start skipping parts looolll. It makes me squeamish the full on stuff, when it goes on and on and on...if you know what I mean. I am weird I know. HAHAHA. 

Last Movie: Oh gosh...what was the last movie I watched...I think it was Howl’s Moving Castle lol. I do want to go see the Barbie movie though, and we have tickets to see The Haunted Mansion this weekend so I am looking forward to that.

Sweet/spicy/savory: Definitely Sweet and Savory. I am such a baby when it comes to spicy. I literally have zero tolerance for spicy foods.

Currently working on: At this exact moment...opening the office, I am doing this real fast before patients get here lol. So you know, normal adulting stuff. Overall, I am working on editing ACT V of my fic, and trying not to hate the digital drawing of Naurfaer I am working on to post on my tumblr blog. It’s so bad lol, but I am getting to the point of I don’t really care anymore.
