When made upright the former racing champion who'd seen his dreams go up in smoke clutched his aching head and squinted at the voice cutting through the daylight spilling into the empty club. Once again he'd drank too much and passed out in one of the booths. With Pride going on around Wilmington he was living it up extra large. People were just a lot more fun and into partying during this time. Everyone matched his energy, for the most part, in seeking an escape. That living in fantasy was so alluring. With a rasped groan he scrubbed his face with his palm and hoped it would do the trick of clearing the fog a bit.
"Shut the fuck up." Despite the scratchiness to his voice the words had affection to them. Safia was likely one of the only people that saw and knew all the sides of him and still kept coming around. Therefore, with so much history and such a strong bond there was always a softness there. "Thanks," he said, worn eyes meeting hers as she handed over the caffeine delivery. "Why are you up so early and chipper?" To his knowledge her nights were long like his own. Another reason they were compatible. "The opportunity to see this handsome face gets you going that much, huh," hand to chest, "I'm touched."

Safia had grown up being the person others felt inclined to check in on, it was a no brainer what with her reckless behaviour and little to no thought process. It was something she had found herself leaning on like crutches, knowing that she could push the boundaries because there was always someone there to catch her fall. That had quite been the case with Gavin, until recent years. His steep decline had rocked Safia to her core, realising that she needed to be his crutches, now more than ever.
"Holy shit, he's out of bed before midday." she joked lightly, her mouth gaping open in shock. He hadn't been at his place, and so her next go-to was naturally his blues club. "Here, I bought you a coffee." Safia raised the take-out coffee cup to him, hers still warm in her other hand. "Figured you might need it." it was a safe bet that Gavin always needed coffee.
