Yep, Utah businessman Paul Huntsman, who has owned the 148-year-old paper since May 2016, is looking to make history — it would be the first major newspaper to go non-profit (if successful). Huntsman, whose family assets are worth billions, says the paper has been losing money and he just hates that. You're right, Wilson, it's already a non-profit, but it's the wrong kind. So, here's what Huntsman is going to do: Ask folks, rich and poor, as well as corporations, to build a foundation — a huge pile of money — that will produce interest and other income to underwrite the operation. It sounds so good that the crack economists here at Smart Bomb have determined to follow suit. The staff here at Smart Bomb will form a 501 (c) (3) and ask the Huntsman family for a whole bunch of money for our foundation. And after school, kids could get together to form militias, just like the Second Amendment says: “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” It all makes such perfect sense.
