regarding ur " plot points I love 2see explained in future eps". Only 1 or 2 of them will possibly be explained in the future. could be deleted. But the rest won't. Their chapters have been cut for good. Just go to the manga for them. The Mangaka is involved so the cuts got her blessing. As well as the anime original scenes. Don't let manga readers ruin it for U & make U notice stuff U shouldn't. Also, don't overanalyze the characters. Tohru is just a shojo MC. She doesn't need to be complex.
Hi.
Ouch! so out of 11 points I listed “ Only 1 or 2 of them will possibly be explained in the future.” & “ Their chapters have been cut for good. ”. This hurts dude...
Not a single manga reader ruined anything for me. Kindly give them respect. I’ve been writing furuba reviews since se01 & no one has ever spoiled anything for me or ruined my experience. Mad respect for every furuba manga reader. Even if they disliked sth, they’ll only state their opinion if I asked & they’re still careful. You never see this in any fandom!!
What I’ve criticized in any of my posts are things I’ve noticed myself by myself. I’m an avid supporter for well-written stories in media. I crave them & love to analyze, criticize & consume them with passion! You don’t see me analyze “ Friends” or “ School Rumble”. I understand what their genres dictates & I enjoy them greatly. There are other works on the other hand that goes beyond a single genre & excel in presenting sth different, new & fascinating.
Fruits basket had the potential for that for its depiction of trauma, abuse & its unique writing of one of the best romantic slow burn without the cliche of “love heals magically”. You rarely see such things in anime & especially in shojo. Such genre mostly goes for commercializing cute lovey dovey couples with lots of shy shy, blush blush, a dash of drama & a hint of complexity & lots of comedy & pretty boys & girls. Nothing against all that & I watch them & enjoy them but I never needed to look deeper.
Fruits basket had the potential to be popular for its own deep story & complex characters, not the animal-turning cuties when hugged. I’d even say the Fruits basket had the potential to be as deep as other works from different genres: Monster, death note, AOT & FMA..etc. Finally a shojo classified work standing with highly acclaimed & extremely analyzed works of anime. Why? becuz furuba discuss human trauma & abuse rather than mystery or politics. It goes deeper into the faulty human mind & exhausted soul. So, how can I not analyze this ????
Fruits basket anime is a different medium from the manga. I never expected faithful adaptation cuz I don’t even know the manga. I also don’t care if the mangaka approved the cuts or the added scenes. If sth doesn’t make sense or is weakly presented or doesn't add up, I’ll criticize it. Even if I it was in the manga itself. Also knowing the mangaka sees no problems with the pacing & tohru’s development reflect badly on her imo! But I won’t take you words for it cuz I don’t know if what you said abt her is true or not. She might just be a general supervisor not involved in details or maybe intentionally requested deleted content to promote the manga, I duno & I don’t care. If the result is shallow, I’ll say it. If it is good, I’ll praise it.
Finally, If sth isn’t important at all, then it wouldn’t be noticed if cut, right? How come I have many questions abt sth that is cut & I didn’t even know it was cut? As I said before, se03 has the best stories & the bulk of what furuba truly is. To me, Furuba is not the shallow lesson of the day in se01 nor the scratching the surface of the issues in se02. It is the deep abyss of se03. It is guilt, grief, death, suicide, forgiveness, hope & new beginnings.
Also, tohru is NOT just shojo MC. -_-’. Duno abt the manga, but altho in the anime, she’s 45% a mother to yuki, 45% fixer of the sohmas’s issues, 10% real deep character with her own issues, trauma, fears, complicated love interest & hope. This 10% is what I like & want. What I find hella unique & fascinating. What I’ll analyze & discuss & talk abt. I know I complain that her issues are inconsistent, weakly presented more than any character in furuba but it is what I have & why I started watching furuba in the 1st place hoping for! You seem to be a manga-reader & your opinion of her is yours & you’re free on how you see her. Personally, I see lots of lost potential in tohru herself & for the story itself overall. But the show is still going. Things might get better! =D
Thanks for the ask, but I’m still in furuba anime land till the ride ends! Then, we’ll see if it was worth it<3333

hELLO YESTERDAY I WAS SCROLLING THROUGH MY DASHBOARD AND SAW ONE OF UR SASAKI TO MIYANO POSTS (i think it was your reply saying now's a good time to read the series) and my mind went, "hmm i've never seen this manga before but it looks like a great series. let's see what's up" aND I HAVE FALLEN INTO SASAMIYA HELL FROM THAT MOMENT ON. NO REGRETS HERE. i just wanted to thank u for introducing and sharing such a great cute series with us sobs. bless ur soul.
HI WELCOME TO SASAMIYA HELL WE ALL FLOAT HERE.
I’m so glad people are trying it!! YOU REALLY CAN’T GO WRONG WITH IT. It seems like such an innocuous read. But gosh. IT GRABS YOU AND PULLS YOU IN AND NEVER EVER LETS GO.
It’s so wholesome, gorgeously illustrated, and its mangaka is a bigger fan than ANY of us ever will be. I love finding a series where the creator just loves it SO much. There’s so much detail put into it, things that have long, LONG distant payoffs that blow your mind. It’s insane. It’s such an innocuous story, and yet...IT’S ONE OF THE BEST THINGS I’VE EVER READ.
Everyone else, please PLEASE give these boys a shot!!
