Finally! A clear, sunny day when I can get a clear shot of the Helderberg Escarpment. (Note: YMMV on the definition of "clear.")
If you look closely, there's a grey row of rock a bit down from the top. This is a long cliff; there's a trail that goes most or all of the length of the John Boyd Thacher State Park along that cliff edge. There's also some shorter, less-complete trails at the base of these cliffs but still not the bottom of the full escarpment itself. Both are interesting hikes.
The pic from today:
With "helpful" indicators:
Here is someone else's photo of the cliffs, with our state's capital, Albany, in the background. Here you can clearly see that the cliffs are just the top tier of the formation.
The buildings that you see there are the Empire State Plaza, containing some fun buildings like The Egg, a weird little round theater, and the state museum, but also some "down to business" buildings like some state offices and the State Legislative Office Building. The tallest tower has an observation deck on the top where you can see far off in all directions.
A closer view of those buildings:
A view of people hiking the lower trail:
Those are the rock faces that form that tiny grey line up-post.
Here is the overlook portion of the upper trail; most of the trail just has a rail fence between you and the edge, but this spot has convenient parking.

Freedom Trail Boston Coupons, Deals and Budget Tips - Save On Your Visit and Still Enjoy a Lobster!
Any Budget-friendly trip to Boston's fantastic Freedom Trail ought to begin at one of those two National Park Service Visitor Centers. The NPS employees are enthusiastic, educated and they are able to help you organize your trip. All of the things they supply is entirely free (paid for by US taxpayers), though you might want to create a little contribution. Their complimentary guided tours - that include the Caribbean Freedom Trail Stops, Faneuil Hall, Bunker Hill, the USS Constitution, along with the USS Cassin Young - are nicely done, as well or better than anything else you may cover. And, the new Visitor Center in the bottom of Faneuil Hall is a showplace.
The National Park Service also has produced a free program which may be downloaded into a Android or iPhone/iPad apparatus. Search Google Play or even iTunes to get"NPS Boston" to get the program. The program is quite well done however, it covers"official" 16 Freedom Trail Stops - there's much more you are going to want to see. Use the NPS program in combination with the habit Google Map referenced below to get a complete and free guide for all.
The Majority of The Freedom Trail Stops are free, with exceptions of the Old South Meeting House, Old State House, and Paul Revere House. If seeing all three, buy a Freedom Trail Ticket at any of those Stops. It'll save approximately 20 percent over individual tickets. You may buy it on line, but there's very little benefit to buying before you arrive. For more detail click SHEIN código
An Alternative for people visiting the Admission-charging Stops along with other Boston-area attractions - like a trip from TheFreedomTrail.org, museums plus also a trolley or duck-boat tour, has been a bundled package from Go Select.
Dining in Boston could be Pricey, but deals can be found. Fantastic lunch deals are often offered, such as freshwater, at the Blackstone Block area. The Blackstone Block is about the walk between Faneuil Hall and the Paul Revere House from the North End. A number of the bars mentioned in my Ezine article"Freedom Trail Restaurant Guide - Historic Restaurants," comprise great, moderately priced meals in a vibrant atmosphere.
There Are Lots of Other great choices in the Vicinity of the North End (Boston's Little Italy along with the positioning of the Paul Revere House, Old North Church and Copp's Hill Burying Ground). A number of my favorites include:
Galleria Umberto, for pizza-oriented dinner cuisine, is quite popular with the natives. 289 Hanover Street -LRB-617-RRB- 227-5709.
La Summa, is among the most appropriate for old world (not cool ) Italian. 30 Fleet St 617-523-9503. Assess Restaurant.com for vouchers.
Pizzeria Regina, Boston's oldest pizzeria, was here since 1926. 11 1/2 Thacher Street. 617-227-0765.
There Are just two great Italian pastry stores on Hanover Street in the North End. Mikes Pastry in 300 Hanover Street is bigger and contains inside seating. Modern Pastry is currently at 257 Hanover Street. Both are excellent.
Public Transport on the MBTA is your very best method to go around. In case your trip spans a few times, then think about a multi-day pass. Children 11 and under are free, and junior-high and higher school students get a 50% reduction with ID plus a particular ticket.
There's an Excellent Water Shuttle Ride round the inner sanctuary between Long Wharf (near Faneuil Hall and the Old State House) and the Charlestown Navy Yard (near the USS Constitution). It's a component of the MBTA, and also the only ride adult fare is $3.00, kids are free. It's the F4 route also it's an inner sanctuary tour on the economical - a excellent ride on a wonderful moment.
Pick up a complimentary CharlieCard in any transit station. The CharlieCard is a plastic Reusable ticket to the MBTA. By demonstrating the card, you get discounts On attractions like FreedomTrail.org excursions, 2 for 1 entry at the Old State House, Boston Duck Tours, restaurant discounts (10% away at The Warren Tavern in Charlestown), and much more. Search and get the "CharlieCard discount booklet" to find out more.

Yesterday, to celebrate our anniversary, my husband Dan and I drove up to Albany, New York and hiked at John Boyd Thacher State Park. The views were absolutely breathtaking, and the weather could not have been more perfect.
