Hubert paused for only a second, then kept dabbing the wound on Butler's arm.

He'd been conscious this time, and it was awful. Usually he blacked out by the end of a party and that was it- everyone would be gone and he'd assume he got too overwhelmed to process the latter half of it.

Not this time, no... he was very awake while the whispers guided his murderous hand. They sounded red, but what did red sound like? Either way, he knew what happened when guests disappeared now.

"Hubert... Hubert, answer me- I'm horrible, why are you-"

"Because we're all horrible," the Avian snapped back, wings fluffing out.

Butler fell silent and let him finish tending to the cut.

All... all horrible? They're all horrible? Does he mean that in general, or... or do they kill too-?

Anyone else think Hubert from TFTSMP would be an apathetic teenager with nothing to live for yet also strangely compliant in almost an eerie, "What is he planning/hiding?" way?

They'd lied, cheated, and clawed their way to the top. A trio of inseparables, vying for a better life.

So why did it feel so wrong?

Why did Billiam, who treated his brothers with nothing but the most brutish of Piglin loyalty, brush them aside as "help" and not as fellow holders of the throne they'd cobbled together?

Why did Hubert, whose wings were soft and halting and protective, suddenly seem so cold and standoffish?

Why did the storybooks Boo used to love now seem so dull and unrealistic?

Why were their dreams all red?

He’s so special to me and I wish he had actually shown up in the episode

Headcanon that for Masquerade Trio, before Hubert left, while Moon and Billiam had this kind of bond despite the whole technically kidnapping thing, they were both closer to Hubert than they were to each other, for various reasons. In Moon’s case, it was because Billiam left them in Hubert’s care not long after bringing them to the mansion and they got attached. In Billiam’s case, it was simply because he and Hubert had been traveling companions and partners in crime for years and were already close friends. 

Even so, there were still times before Hubert left when Billiam and Moon would actually have a bonding moment or two and feel somewhat more at ease around each other, despite everything. For the most part though, it was mainly Hubert who really brought the two together. And then Hubert fled the mansion, and things shifted majorly. 

Neither of them knew what to do, they were both devastated and betrayed. It hurt, they both hurt a lot. And at first, they ended up avoiding each other a lot, just carried out their respective routines in parallel with Butler just automatically taking on most of Hubert’s jobs in the household. He was Hubert’s protege in a way, after all. Even so, Billiam and Moon did end up reaching out to each other, eventually. 

It started with little things- Moon quietly and without prompt leaving a plate of food for Billiam whenever he would spend hours just doing paperwork or research or whatever, Billiam “happening” to buy a new book that Moon would like and leaving it somewhere for the butler to find, things like that. 

And eventually, they both ended up just talking together- about Hubert, mainly, and the Egg, and how Moon got into this mess in the first place. They got closer after that, and actually became friends, for lack of a better word. And, well, serving a big red murder egg does bring people together I guess, so there’s that. 

I also think that at some point, Billiam did try and hire more staff, but it ended very badly because of the Egg. And the aftermath of that incident also made Billiam and Moon realize that the two were, in fact, alone in this endeavor and would be for who knows how long, and I imagine that would cause them to develop even more of a comradery. It’s an old idea, but I like it. 

Just, I have thoughts and a lot of them and not too many ways to express them all in one go, that’s all. I miss them.

Another question for the AU. What were dinners like in that household, especially closer to when Hubert left? What about after, when it was just Billiam and Matthew?

Dinners were full of either arguments between Billiam and Hubert with Matt in the middle, or just bitter silence

After Hubert left, they were just quiet

Matt never ate at the table, they ate in their room. They had to clean it either way so they just stayed in their room because they liked cleaning their room

Meanwhile, Billiam ate at the table, silent as the egg spoke to him during the meal. Sometimes he spoke to the egg during meals

And after Matt died, Billiam ate alone, ignoring the egg entirely

Hubert was also a butler in Billiam’s Mansion. If rumors were to be believed, he was actually the senior butler to Butler (unnamed). Hubert apparently ran away from the mansion right before the Masquerade began.

Karl found a small photo tucked away in a wardrobe of Butler and some white-haired teenager. That must be Hubert. This was the fourth dreamon hybrid Karl had ever met. Weren’t they supposed to be rarer than this?
