every now and then i find myself coming back to tfp’s s1 ep16, “operation: breakdown”, and it hits me all over again how breakdown is one of the most mistreated characters plot-wise. like the guy just cannot catch a break. from losing his eye to being killed by airachnid, DISSECTED by her (i get it she wanted to send a message, but she ended up sending a LITERAL message to megatron anyway so what was the point of BEHEADING the poor guy??), being found by MECH, used to revive silas, then having his corpse be subject to continuous experimentation…i mean, he’s not even allowed to REST, yknow? in skyquake’s case, at least dreadwing attempted to avenge him. and i know knock out’s main motivation for his experiments on silas was to avenge breakdown, but it’s still pretty hard to watch because you can’t really overlook the fact that it’s still breakdown’s body. and silas being placed in breakdown’s SPARK chamber?? like what did breakdown do to deserve all that he’s not even close to the most corrupt decepticon. all he did was follow megatron’s orders and fight bulkhead any chance he got. i’m not necessarily complaining about the fact that he died (issues outside the writing room, what can you do), but more about how things somehow kept getting worse for him even after he died. doesn’t help that he was genuinely thankful when bulkhead saved him and was the only decepticon to value the work of the vehicons ;_;

Happy Transformers Animated 17th anniversary!

Transformers Animated is my #1 favorite show and it has a special place in my heart. I will tell you how I discovered TFA and understand the show.

This is going to be a long story.

Right when Transformers Prime was a thing, I discovered Transformers Animated on my Dad's old HP tablet back in 2012. The first episode I watched was "Where is Thy Sting?". After that, I started to watch more episodes on a random order. Although I recognize Optimus Prime, Ratchet, Bumblebee, and Bulkhead since TFP was my introduction to the Transformers franchise, I didn't recognize Prowl. Actually, I didn't even know who he was at all. Although I find the show was cool, but I didn't understand why I liked it. Somewhere in 2014, I stopped watching it because I had homework and I was into My Little Pony Friendship is Magic, but I grew out of it. Sheesh… I've completely forgotten and repressed those memories of TFA that I didn't even know what was my favorite show back then.

On mid-July 2021, I was browsing TFA on TV Tropes and started to have bits of long-forgotten & repressed memories of it that were strangely familiar to me. So I rediscovered the show on YouTube and I watched Transform and Roll Out (S1 ep 1-3) and Megatron Rising (S1 ep 15-16) on the 25th. Next I watched A Bridge Too Close (S2 ep 12-13) and TransWarped (S3 ep 1-3) on the 26th. Then I watched Human Error (S3 ep 8-9) on the 27th. Finally, I watched Endgame (S3 ep 12-13) on the 28th.

I finished watching some episodes. But deep down, I still wanted to know why those bits of long-forgotten & repressed memories were familiar to me, still wanted to understand more about TFA, to know why I'm connected with Prowl, and the other characters for some reason. I search for all episodes to make sure there are still here. Guess what? I found out that all of the episodes were still here on YouTube.

While I was watching the episodes in order, I started to feel more familiar with those long-forgotten & repressed memories and remembering them more. And I started to understand more about TFA and feel more connected with Prowl and the other characters. On August 4, when I was watching Five Servos of Doom (ep 35), I realized that Prowl was a self-reflection of my personality and my past & present experience. Do you know what's more strange? Even though I didn't know him back in 2012, I subconsciously learned from him. Like he was my role model.

On August 6, I watched the shorts first and then binge-watched the last 6 episodes of season 3. Prowl's sacrifice genuinely made me feel sad.

I finally know what my favorite show is, remember my long-forgotten & repressed memories, understand Transformers Animated, and know why I'm connected with Prowl and the other characters. This show literally reminded me of my childhood in real life. The characters reminded me of my family and myself. I was feeling the anticipation and awe when I was watching it. Holy cow it's been 9 years since I forgotten and repressed it!

And that's why Transformers Animated is my #1 favorite show of all time.

It feels good to relieve those memories again.

Sadly on December 16th, Derrick J. Wyatt, the lead art director and character design of Transformers Animated passed away...

Rest in peace, Derrick J. Wyatt. You made our childhood wonderful. Thank you.

I get that tfp, dark and gritty as it was, still had it's limitations for the levels of violence it could show, but can you imagine if in ep 16 'operation breakdown ' MECH doesn't turn off Breakdown's pain receptors, and when the Autobots confront Sylas through Breakdown's dismembered eye you can hear him screaming in the background ?

Like what we got was still cool and menacing as fuck, but that would have brought it to a different level.

Bonus points if the scientists were properly caught off guard and bulkhead walks in on them actively cutting him open as he cries

But, Nexus and the dark star power is a reform of dark energon but adapted over the time. And he have been consuming dark energon. (I think it's part of Unicorn's core or something like that- hey- rusty TF knowledge) like how Bucket head was(Megatron) was with the purple drugs(Dark energon) and in Predacons rising movie of the last ep of Transformers prime. Megatron was thrown off his ship and died by bee by getting stab from a sword made from the 16 primes. And how he gets revived but can't control his body since Unicorn is controlling him physically and it would hurt Megatron if he refuse to do what Unicorn wants. What about that happens to Nexus in a way where he go 'offline' but gets revived only to be a puppet(Again) but to a god(Unicorn), and Dark Sun($un), knowing the consequences as he saw it happen before in some other dimensions(I headcanon he saw some dimensions too in his spare time,plus Ruin,but didn't know what it was even at first nor care much since he never really examine the thing or chance out of trauma reaction or guts he have about it I guess?) as he purposely let it happen, CAUSE one, he hates all Moons(including Nexus cause of his behavior) and using him for his side project in a half benefiting way(I am still working on the f##king lore for OP Au).

But I am still figuring on how will he survive, having Starscream as a bud in their body(Two twin sisters,two different father beings), dying and how $un plan it or have the idea to have it all pin point to the source. Plus $un's dragon is half Predacon too to make it more sense in a Logical connection between TSAMS and TF.(Aye,another shockwave and Predaking sad father and son moment-)The astrals are solely related to primus and other cyber myths(That's made up btw-),like the titans and quintess(The ugly squid peeps who are just controlling),Etc and more! The astrals are partly made a small great amount of the allspark's energy for their abilities to fly,speed,strike,Etc. Lunar, is more a different generation and why Taurus didn't like nor trust at first too, cause Unicorn was part of Earth,Earth himself for the planet.So other reason to connect the two fandoms hehe:3

So I watched the Ep again last night and came away feeling a bit better about it. Maybe tfp wasn’t completely the anti Johnlock shit fest we initially perceived.

JOHN IS FAMILY The biggest message I received about the state of their relationship was that a lot had occurred between the ‘hug’ and tfp. John was “FAMILY”…. and it was said with such vehemence. This was the tone of someone demanding familial acceptance of their partner and the respect it implies. This is not the type of conversation one has about a bro. The resulting ‘long and pointed look’ from Mycroft was him updating his assumptions about the complexity of the bond before him.

Even more telling was the fact that John wasn’t particularly surprised. This wasn’t Sherlock being melodramatic and volatile - this was relevant. John agreed that he was Sherlock’s family now.

-—————– THE 'SOPHIE’S CHOICE PUZZLE’ They didn’t have to include this. The only reason to include this was to restate once again that John was more important than anyone. That Sherlock would kill his own brother before John, that Sherlock would kill himself for John…..again and again and again.

Once again John didn’t seem surprised that Sherlock would sacrifice Mycroft before him. He protested, said he wouldn’t allow it - but he wasn’t shocked by the choice. Honestly I wouldn’t expect a friend to choose me over a family member….maybe that’s just me?..

——– EUROS - “SO YOU’VE HAD SEX” Wow!! Sherlock played 2 seconds of 'Irene’s theme’ and she came to this conclusion. On the surface this reads as a confirmation that he thinks of Irene sexually….but we know it’s more complex than this. Even if we come at it from an Adlock POV - at the point this was composed Sherlock had definitely not had sex with Irene. He was in fact resisting her at every turn. So what was Eurus hearing? The way Sherlock played told her something about her brothers experience of sensuality and intimacy - it may be that this sexual awakening was recent… ——— IRENE ADLER So some people were disheartened by the text at the end. I don’t know… I’m not even convinced it was to Irene. It just said: “You know where to find me, SH” Was Irene’s name on it? I may have missed something. Either way, Moffat answered a question about it in the interview below. It doesn’t sound to me like they were planning to go anywhere with it.

- Same with Smallwood and Mycroft….. who was beautifully camp this episode.

———- PARENTLOCK We kind of got parentlock! Sherlock and John raising Rosie in 221B…..looked that way to me.

——— CLARIFICATION I don’t think we’re going to get it. I don’t know if the writers are in disagreement with the studio ..or each other… or if their intentions for the show have changed with the seasons and tides? Who knows? It’s possible that the reason we get mixed messages is EXACTLY because there are mixed agendas. At the moment it reads as an attempt to present a relationship that defies clarification or labelling. I know that does nothing for LGBTI representation - but it does something for queer representation imo. They are clearly in love - but the sexuality issue is ??

The roast (rant) of Sherlock S4

Can’t believe it took me this long to realise that series of four of Sherlock was absolute crap. Recently, I’ve been watching some videos on YouTube critiquing s4 and found they’ve raised some really legitimate points. My favourites being:

1) The Six Thatchers (which was already covered on John’s blog anyway) was basically Mary’s story - NOT Sherlock’s. After the first watch of episode, I was very defensive of Mary because I felt that her character has had a lot of undeserved hate. But then I realised that it was much too focused on her story, trying to getting us emotionally attached to her before the ultimate goal of the episode was reached - killing Mary. Instead of being what’s its supposed to be: a crime and mystery drama, it was more the adventures of Mary, the lovable idiot she calls John and hat-boy.

2) The Six Thatchers was made purely to kill Mary and make John hate Sherlock for some reason so we could see drugged up Sherlock again.

3) While I thought Culverton was a great villain, it was obvious from the start he’s a villain, even though they try to make a mystery out of that.

4) Sherlock in The Lying Detective somehow predicting when everyone’s going to turn up at Johns therapist’s house - sorry that’s even beyond you. (Also it takes away the power of Mrs Hudson finally putting an end to his crazy bullshit and stuffing him in a car - like you knew that was going to happen Sherlock!)

5) John beating Sherlock to a pulp is completely out of character.

6) Not to mention that so is ‘cheating’ on his wife.

7) In The Lying Detective, Mary’s video tape implies that Sherlock made himself a drugged wreck on purpose AGAIN. This was disappointing as I would have preferred to see Sherlock genuinely grieving and John helping him deal with Mary’s loss as well as his own.

7) Mary is too involved in The Lying Detective. Though I have nothing against her character she gets super annoying. If you’re dead, stay DEAD!

8) Mary’s death was cliched bullshit. Somehow she manages to achieve the speed of light and take the bullet for Sherlock in a big spurt of blood, something the show ridiculed as being in the movies in s3 ep 3.

9) Show promises Moriarty without giving us anything! Sure, we can get some reaction gifs from him in TFP but nothing else. And from the end of s3 ep 3 Moriarty is implied as being the main villain in every episode onward. Nor are you going to convince me he was Eurus’ puppet. NO WAY. Moriarty should have been raised from the dead somehow, the rest of the series is that unrealistic anyway and it would have been more entertaining.

10) Eurus’ story arc. I absolutely love Eurus’ character and she actually improved the series for me. I just dislike how her character was used. Her motives are quite vague - did she put Sherlock through those games knowing he would ‘save’ her? Or was she fully intending to hurt him but then gave that up towards the end? Also, I found it hard to understand how they could redeem her that quickly (or at all). I feel that they should have either kept her completely psychopathic to the very end or made her a tad more emotional throughout the episode - e.g, seeing her become emotionally distressed to see Sherlock almost end his life and realise on an emotional level she’s gone too far?

11) Eurus is not a telepathic witch. She does not need to be sent to a magic prison to be ‘contained’, nor does she have the ability to enslave everyone in the magic prison.

12) TFP is basically the roast of Mycroft Holmes. He’s reduced to a sentimental dumbass who pukes at a shooting (this is the same person who watched Moriarty being tortured with ease) and allows Moriarty to see his sister UNSUPERVISED. He made his entire life a mission to protect his family (even the sister who couldn’t care less about him) and he is criticised for trying to keep them SAFE. E.g, John says that what comes around goes around when he hears that Mycroft had been locked in Eurus’ old cell. Are you kidding? The woman is a rapist and a multi-murderer, she deserves to be there!

13) Just as Molly Hooper was getting stronger and more confident as a character, the writers CRUSHED her.

14) Mary naming Rosie after her real name. Petty, I know, but couldn’t you let John have a say at all instead of stamping your name on it.

15) Redbeard is a dog. I don’t care what you say. The ‘twist’ of redbeard being a childhood friend was predictable and unnecessary.

16) The opening scene of TFP in which Mycroft is confronted by bleeding portraits and an evil clown 🙄.

16) Finally, s4 is evidence of the writer’s sheer arrogance at this point. To excuse plot holes and lack of explanations, they cheaply excuse it with ‘well, they’re clever so they can do anything’. They insult the fans’ intelligence by expecting them to buy these practically impossible, dumb scenarios (Eurus, I’m looking at you and the lack of glass in your cell). Sadly, we all hoped that they were still smart and were tricking us with s4 and some secret episode would ‘fix’ it. Truth is, they’ve probably just gotten stupid.

I’m glad I got that off my chest, finally. I probably had a lot more points but it’s already a long rant anyway.
