£2.5 million for UK satellite data pilots to benefit citizens and businesses

Ten projects have been awarded £2.5 million as part of the UK Space Agency’s Unlocking Space for Business programme. The pilot projects, which have been awarded grants of up to £400,000 each, will trial new solutions that use satellite data and services to support transport, logistics and financial services.  The trials will combine terrestrial data and technology (such as AI, quantum, machine learning and geospatial data) with satellite data and services, and provide deeper analysis to develop insights and present new solutions to UK customers.    One project with Sports City Management Company aims to enhance visitor travel to the Etihad Campus, which is home to Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium and the new Co-op Live arena, by reducing congestion and increasing the sustainability of fan travel.   The project will support the development of an AI-enabled travel demand solution, using satellite data from the European Space Agency’s Copernicus Open Access Hub and Sentinel satellites, to predict patterns in the travel of music and sports fans at major events. Coupled with machine learning, this provides transport operators and event planners with insight into congestion points, public transport requirements and crowd flow. This will be tested in a partnership with Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM).   Elsewhere, Octopus Investments has partnered with Treeconomy, a company that uses AI and remote sensing to measure the impact of nature restoration projects. This project will use a variety of satellite-based Earth observation data sources including Landsat and Sentinel-2, as well as AI and localised drone-based data, to support the monitoring and evaluation of nature projects and a suite of core environmental metrics to inform investment decisions.   This will increase confidence and improve the allocation of private finance towards high-quality, measurable and trusted nature and conservation efforts. DSIT Minister Chris Byrant said: This government is embracing the power of technology to improve lives and support businesses to thrive. We have a fast-growing space sector in the UK but for too long we have struggled to tap the huge potential of satellite data to drive positive change in the real world. These new projects seek to unlock this potential by combining data from space with cutting-edge technologies here on Earth. Unlocking Space for Business is delivered by the UK Space Agency to foster innovation by combining satellite data and services with other data sources and technology, to drive benefits for businesses.This could include new revenue growth, operational efficiencies and environmental, social and governance (ESG) benefits.  As well as the grants, Unlocking Space for Business has provided exploration workshops, networking events, learning and development sessions, and online resources to support companies in their understanding of what satellite data and services can mean for them. They run alongside Contracts for Innovation, formerly the Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI), which support the development of new ideas and technologies.  Dr Craig Brown, Investment Director at the UK Space Agency, said:  These new grants and contracts are just some of the ways the UK Space Agency is kickstarting growth and creating high quality jobs to position the UK as a leading space economy.   Unlocking Space for Business is set up to identify and help tackle barriers facing organisations that have not traditionally used satellite data or services, or considered how space can benefit their bottom line. From AI powered satellite-derived climate models to maritime incident avoidance and easier football fan travel, these projects will help accelerate innovation and investment, and showcase the untapped potential of space data to support a range of UK industries. The grants form part of a wider ‘Unlocking Space’ programme from the UK Space Agency focused on growing the UK sector by championing the benefits of space to stakeholder groups outside it, including investors, businesses and public bodies. This includes the new GovBridge project to demystify the government procurement process and help space companies refine their business offering to better suit requirements across the public sector.   It also includes Unlocking Space for Investment, through which the UK Space Agency has invested £8 million in the UK Innovation and Science Seed Fund (UKI2S) to create a space portfolio managed by Future Planet Capital. The fund aims to address the critical funding gap early-stage space companies face at pre-seed and seed stage, and is part of strategic efforts to leverage private investment to grow the space sector, which is a key priority for the UK Space Agency.  Grant recipients The funded projects are led by end-user businesses, in consortium with a space supplier and data integrators.  The following organisations have been awarded grants under this Unlocking Space for Business grant call:  Admiral Group Plc - Assessing subsidence-related insurance claims risk using satellite radar. The Making of the Immersive Experience Environment Project | Idea | Process| Teamwork.

Immersion in an unusual setting is the essence of an immersive experience; this can be achieved through the use of technology such as virtual reality goggles or a multi-media physical attraction.

Working on an interdisciplinary project has allowed me to collaborate with students from other academic fields. By combining these backgrounds, abilities, and knowledge, the first craft game was able to convey the presumptions related to the missions .I am able to lead a team well and I often share ideas in group projects.

I was able to comprehend my personality after taking the Myer-Briggs personality test. I made every effort to make the remaining steps of the procedure as lovely as possible.

After that, I began looking into various concepts. I considered how to provide viewers with a 360-degree immersive experience that meets their needs. Afterwards, I spoke with my buddies, and between us, our combined study produced three distinct concepts. We couldn't decide which side to support because all three were superior to one. But because everyone got along well and worked together, we managed to make the most of it.

As the motif, we decided on a woodland following a forest fire.

It has been attempted to combine a variety of aspects to make it visually appealing to the audience.

Our first choice was to design a realistic woodland. I set up trees and other components for that. After determining that a more stylistic approach would be somewhat better, the processing began with UE5.

The Making time I face a problem, That is the bird animation cycle was one issue I ran into; we intended for the ghost bird to soar across the landscape. tried to do it with a lot of tutorial assistance, but the results weren't good.

When we looked at everything, we encountered a great deal of difficulty with the rendering process. The main issue we encountered during rendering was that numerous elements were missing and the entire image seemed black over the surroundings. We were somewhat disappointed with the finished product. My buddies and I will work to learn more about this and make the necessary corrections.

Team members get together once a week, depending on scheduling, to exchange ideas and feedback. We sent the UE5 document and asset files using Discord, Drive, and WhatsApp. I am happy that my group was able to collaborate right away and that we kept each other informed about our thoughts and solutions as the project progressed.

Carrington Lane in Carrington is closed both ways this morning due to a crash which it is believed no one was seriously injured. TFGM camera shows the cordon which is still in place at time of publishing. ( Heads up. This one is pretty long)

Hey! I hope you don't mind me sharing my latest brainworm ( new story concept ) with you&( really, I hope it's okay, given the reblog...)! To keep it short, it revolves around characters somewhat based on a fairytale archetype or character( or both), all in a modern, kinda superhero setting( at least for now. I imagine some of these characters with powers). Anyway, I wanna share some of the characters with you& if you& don't mind( they don't have actual names yet, just titles)

The Princess: The main character,and a slight combination of the princess in the tower trope( like Rapunzel), with a bit of Sleeping Beauty and kinda Cinderella? She was put into a sleep coma ever since she was a kid, having the constant dream of being in a tower- The Tower- and constantly trying and failing to escape it and it's difficult puzzles and monsters. It was when she finally escapes at 18 she finally wakes up( she would be 18 irl too, just to clear). There's more but I don't want this to be super long. Her whole thing is running, agility and observation- it's what helped her escape The Tower in her dreams after all.

The Hunter- He is the master of weapons, known for his skills on battle and survival. However, despite this reputation,he is incredibly shy and quiet, and tends to get flustered easily. I imagine him being bff's with The Princess, as both are very socially akward ( The Princess has been asleep for years and thus has skipped a lot of social development outside of her survival instincts). Oh, and yeah, he's mostly based on the hunter character from Little Red Riding Hood.

The Prince: The least developed because I have no clue what to do with him. I don't really see him being any sort of romantic option for The Princess, rather a sort of rival? I feel he would kinda be the opposite of her, at least personality wise. Less stoic-ish, more social , but also a bit of a slacker ( The Princess is very persistent in gaining back the abilities she had in her dreams, thus a stubborn worker to a fault). I also see The Prince and The Hunter having, ahem, history. But other than that? Nothing for this guy.

The Fairy Godmother: The one who wakes The Princess up. Kept her in captivity so she would die. She's not like the Disney version of her, much more cold and strict. As of now, I don't see her as a good not bad person. I like to believe she calls her large scientist unit M.I.C.E. I don't know what it stands for, but it sounds cool.

The Witch: The "Big Bad"....maybe. Still not sure if I should make her and TFGM separate characters, but if I end up making them separate, I will treat them as a divorced couple. Anyway, as a separate character, she was the one that put The Princess into the dream coma. Why? Still working on that.

The Sleepless/ The Slumber: Same character, I just can't choose a title. This one was purely based on vibes. She based on both the princess and the pea and Snow White. The thing about her is that I see her as almost sickly? She's pretty pale, her hair is a bit greasy and she have heavy eye bags. And yet she always have this eery smile. Maybe affiliated with The Witch, idk. I just like her vibes.
