🌈is there a fic that you worked *really fucking hard on* that no one would ever know? maybe a scene/theme you struggled with?

The last chapter of The One Where Clint is Sam's Weakness. I rewrote that one four times, and it would never come right, especially the final text Clint writes to Kate. For a long time, I struggled with two themes that were competing with each other - making impossible choices, and failure (two things I was struggling with in my own life at the time). And then it hit me - if you're always making impossible choices, where there isn't a good outcome either way, of course you'll always feel like you're failing. That, and the line "You're my hero, Kate" (which replaced "I'm proud of you," which we already heard in the show). Once the two themes became one, the rest finally came together. (Thank you to @teeelsie-posts for your feedback on this, it was so much help!)

💘Is there any posted fic you want to rework/re-edit/re-write?

The entire Whumptoberverse? Which is part of the reason it's been on hiatus for so long. I have an autistic OC that is a horrible stereotype and needs serious reworking. Amendments needs a good edit, how Tony meets Aceso is such a mess, and there's so much in A Quiet Place that just doesn't make sense. I'm no longer sure that Steve's passive "I don't know what to do with myself so I'm just going to go along with everyone else" is in character, and after seeing TFAWTS I don't feel like my Bucky is canon-accurate either. In hindsight, I think I also regret the addition of Clint/Bucky, but it's baked enough into the plot that it's going to stay. And the whole thing is just riddled with typos. I'm honestly surprised when I get positive comments on it still, I'm at the point where I can only see the flaws, so I keep avoiding finishing it.

🪄what is your post-writing/sharing aftercare? How do you take care of yourself or celebrate yourself when you've finished a fic?

(A few of the options showed up as 🪄 for me so I just picked the one I wanted to answer most!)

I... don't have one. Which is probably a problem I should work on, as I am super prone to writer burnout/fatigue. I have so many unfinished projects all I really see is the unfinished list and not the completed one.

Bucky/Sam at Sharon’s party

Bucky’d known on some level what being the Winter Soldier again would mean. But it's been hours and he can't get the memory of Zemo caressing his face out of his mind and its making his skin crawl. Being treated like an object, the sense memory of it still lingering even past all the revelations from Sharon and the subsequent party is something he hadn't counted on.

Here now if Zemo can dance he can find someone to help him forget the night. Despite what most of America might believe, picking up a guy at a bar was something he's known how to do since the 40s. No dating apps needed. At the bar, he leans on one side keeping most of the patrons in view. There's no one that really appeals to him until the bartender himself shows up. The bartender takes a little too long looking and Bucky knows he has a shot. He leans in farther than necessary—close enough that a slight adjustment would lead to a kiss—and gives his order. The bartender is good at his job and within a few minutes he's pushing a drink towards Bucky. Bucky shoots out his hand and wraps it around the glass faster than the bartender can let go. Bucky's fingers grazing his wrist.

The bartender smiles and nods to towards the bathrooms and mouths '5 minutes'.

“What the hell was that?” Sam asks breaking the mood that Bucky hadn't known how deep he was into.

Bucky turns to face the crowd, glass in hand. “What do you think?”

He knows that whatever he'd had with Sam before the Snap is long done so he's not sure why Sam is asking for information he won't want.

Sam starts again with, “Do you think right now is the best--”

Bucky pushes away from the bar and starts to move through the crowds towards the bathroom. He has nothing to say to Sam right now that he wouldn't regret and he already regrets enough. Besides he has an appointment with a very willing man in the bathroom.

Still he's not completely unhappy that Sam catches up to him at the door to the bathroom and grabs him by the arm.

He turns and he's struck by the thought that a few moments with Sam, touching Sam, being touched by Sam could erase any memory of Zemo, of these last 6 months struggling.

But Bucky had promised himself after the failed therapy session that he would try harder to stop hurting Sam.

Bucky sighs and finally tries, “I...I just need to stop feeling like I'm not me.”

Sam's hold on his arm has shifted and now Bucky finds himself being pushed backwards into a stall. When the door slams shut the stall, Sam presses forward until they're chest to chest and kisses Bucky the way he hasn't realized he's been missing for months.

i’m not saying steve’s magic dick is going to take bucky’s trauma away all i’m saying is that bucky would not be so alone if steve was knocking on his door dragging him out for dumb adventures because you know they’re BOTH free to choose what they want to do and you’re telling me that two bros who probably dreamed about a future after the war are not gonna want to hang out and see the world (as broken as it might be) and yeah okay the chances of them NOT getting pulled into some new fight is unlikely but even then i truly believe that bucky is at a place now that he would accept steve’s company and friendship and you already know that steve’s been simping over this jerkface cutesass bitch for 7 decades so.
