first attempt at weaving! (not counting little practice swatch pieces)
it’s all cotton, mostly lily’s sugar n’ cream. my tension is really off, i can tell- even after wet finishing, it ended up kind of a trapezoid. it definitely settled, though.
next experiment is probably going to be a hand towel with more complicated weaving patterns- i’ve practiced a few, but wanted to use plain weave on this so the colors showed more.
overall, i’m obsessed- this loom is borrowed from my boyfriend’s aunt, i’m definitely going to look into getting my own rigid heddle loom :o)

so i made some things….

the bag was made entirely from plastic shopping bags. it got 3rd mostly bc of how small it was, but im a little salty bc the 1st place was entered in the wrong category (Recycled Articles > Useful > Any Other, but it shouldve been in Useful > Fabric) and a LOT salty bc the 2nd place was shouldve been in Recycled Articles > Decorative > Wood
the gloves were obviously a close race. first place had a better cast on edge (mine flares out) and the first place for the ““sleeveless sweaters”” was absolutely beautiful and intricate bc judith doesn’t fuck around

eat shit judith! you could sweep all your other categories but my hat was better

🌸Embracing Textile Wall Art: A Touch of Elegance for Your Home🌸
Decorating our home has always been a passion of mine, and we have found that the walls play a crucial role in setting the tone and ambiance of each room. While traditional paintings and photographs are classic choices for wall decor, we have recently discovered the stunning allure of textile wall art. This artistic medium brings texture, warmth, and a unique flair that transforms any space into something truly special.
What is Textile Wall Art?
Textile wall art refers to pieces of art crafted from fabric and fibers, such as tapestries, weavings, macramé, quilts, and even framed fabric pieces. The beauty of textile art lies in its versatility and the endless possibilities it offers in terms of colors, patterns, and textures. These pieces can be intricate and detailed or simple and bold, making them suitable for a variety of interior design styles.
Why We Love Textile Wall Art
Texture and Depth: Unlike flat paintings, textile art adds a three-dimensional quality to your walls. The tactile nature of these pieces creates a sense of depth and interest that draws the eye and invites touch.
Warmth and Comfort: Fabrics naturally evoke a feeling of coziness and warmth. Adding textile art to your walls can make a space feel more inviting and homely—perfect for living rooms, bedrooms, and even dining areas.
Versatility: With textile art, you are not limited to a single style or color palette. Whether you prefer minimalist designs, bold geometric patterns, or intricate, traditional weavings, there’s a piece out there that can complement your decor.
Unique and Personal: Many textile art pieces are handmade, which means each one is unique. By choosing handmade textile art, you’re supporting artisans, sustainability and bringing a one-of-a-kind piece into your home.
How We Incorporate Textile Wall Art into Our Home
Statement Pieces: We love using a large textile piece as a focal point in a room. This works particularly well above sofas, beds, or mantels.
Gallery Walls: Mixing and matching smaller textile pieces with traditional art and photographs creates an eclectic gallery wall.
Layered Textures: Combining textile art with other textured elements in the room, such as rugs and cushions, gives a cohesive and inviting look.
Framed Fabrics: Framing smaller textile pieces gives them a polished look and makes them easier to hang.
Seasonal Switches: Swapping out textile art pieces seasonally keeps our decor fresh and updated.

Day 253, Flash Flood Yard Sale Day
We’ve been to yard sales during a tornado warning so why not yard sale during a flash flood? It didn’t actually start to rain until we were about done so that was good. It rained so hard you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face! When we got home it hadn’t rained at all…yet. It did though and I was so happy to be cozy inside for it. I plugged in my little white lights and worked on my rug…

Appropriation of Urn with Flowers (Aubusson Tapestry)
Pearlescent Photographic Print. Acrylic and Fabric Paints. Wood. Steel. Found Fabric. Glue. Thread. 2020.
I've been posting older art work here today, and I wanted to take the time to talk about one of the coolest things I've ever made. This work began with an image of an Aubusson Tapestry which I wanted to reinterpret the shape of the vase to be the shape of a body. I painted myself, bought two bouquets of meaningful florals, and photographed myself. This image was composited with textures and printed on gold perlescent photo paper. I sourced some second hand doilies and a childrens tapestry. I used some second hand RIT dye to dye the tapestry with blue undertones. I cut it in half and sewed it back together to create framing with the bows. I used found fabric paint to add the roses and bird details. I made this frame from wood I cut and stained along with steel hardware. She has sadly been lost to time and damage, but lives on as my multimedia masterpiece.
