Fic Back Friday

It's Midsummer Eve, the day I write about in the third chapter of my 5-chapter hockey rpf fic Jussi at Jussi's (in the brightness of my night).

I wrote the fic originally in 2017 and revised it with additions in May 2018. It's the longest work of my seb/teuvo series boy from the north country, the main fic of that series if you like.

In the 3rd chapter Teuvo has arrived to Sebastian's Midsummer party at Jussi Jokinen's summer cottage on a resort area by the sea on the Nortwest coast of Finland.

"There was at least as much a party atmosphere in the house, with chatter and yelling over the gradually rising volume of the Finnish rap and dance pop blasting from the speakers, TV blaring muted highlights of the NHL streaming. Sebastian downed black candy shots with the guys, and one of his old friends appeared to be a professional cook and grilled them an enormous platter of delicious spicy chicken that was demolished as quickly as it was put on the table."

That way most of the kids that come to talk to them - some to exchange a shy word or two, others for selfies, hugs and autographs - are more drunk than Sepe and he manages to put his polite professional-athlete-nice-role-model game face on at the phone cameras pointed at him."

Loose translation:

In the beginning Nuti talks about the changes that are happening in Columbus and even though some big names are leaving, it only means that the younger guys actually have a chance showing what they’re made of and get to show that they can take responsibility too. He says that his goal next season is to get to play on the PP regularly. He takes Juho (the host) to eat the ”world’s best burger” called Euroburger that has fries inside.

Juho (the host) asks Jussi Jokinen how is it to have Sebastian, Nuti and Joonas Donskoi with him and Pekka Rinne hosting the Oulu all stars charity golf. Jussi jokes that now he and Pekka will give the young guys all the bad jobs and just enjoy themselves. He also says that the boys have such good hearts and they really want to do good to other people. He’s proud that so many guys that are great both on and off the ice are from Oulu.

Juho: what are your goals for today?

Teuvo: I don’t really have any goals for today, I stopped golfing two weeks ago and now I guess I have to start again. I’ll lose my temper from time to time but let’s see how it goes today.

Juho: How’s your summer been?

Teuvo: I’ve played tennis and golf and I’ve had to work out, too. Pretty cosy summertime.

Juho: Any expectations (money-wise) on this year’s event?

Pekka: Yeah, I hope we’ll top last year’s pot, every year we’ve been able to gather great amounts of money, so I hope it’ll be more than last year.

Juho: Have you decided if any of you will put in some big bucks if it looks like the money wont match last year’s amount?

Pekka: Yeah, I think it’s clear that Sebastian will be the one to put some money on the table. (Sebastian had just signed his contract)

Sebastian: (laughing) We haven’t agreed on anything like that, but Pekka sure is giving loads of pressure. But [putting money on the table] won’t be only my job.

Sebastian is telling that he’s playing golf on one course with every group, and that includes a selfie with Sepe and optional betting against him while chatting and having fun. Juho makes a bet; a dinner is at stake.

Sebastian asks if Juho is going to take part in the auction that’s held in the evening. Juho says that if screaming while being drunk counts then yes. (In finnish, the verb to make an offer at an auction (damn I bet there’s an actual english word for that) is huutaa which also means to scream, to shout directly translated.)

Peksi says - while laughing - that he sees golfing potential in Juuse, who is paired with Juho on the golf tournament. Juuse says that he’s little nervous. He says that he hasn’t made the Salty Special (that they cooked in one of the previous seasons of nhlwam) after that, but some of his friends had been asking for the recipe. He has spent his summer in Hämeenlinna (his hometown) with his friends and family, enjoying the summertime and working out with some old friends.

Juho and Juuse are not very good and Juuse says that they can take one shot 🥃 because the game can’t go any worse. Juho says that he has shot at least 17 golfballs to the forest :D

Juho is back with Sepe and they talk some golf stuff (that I don’t really understand). Out of 7 groups, two has made birdies, and apparently Sepe has too (??). Based on that Juho thinks he’s gonna lose their bet, but Sepe says that Ari Wallin and Harjula confused him a moment ago. Sepe looks to be winning and asks Juho if he’s feeling nervous already. ”I’m nervous as hell, with that kind of swings I’d offer you $20M contract as a golf-player too” Juho says, but he ends up winning after all. Juho wants to go to Raleigh’s most expensive restaurant, but Sepe says he’ll take him to McDonalds or Chipotle. Juho remembers that he actually owns Teuvo a dinner since he lost to him last summer, so he suggests that Sepe will take Teuvo to dinner instead of him. Sepe laughs.

Juuse and Juho look at the final results of the golf tournament.

Juuse: We were pretty close to the lead... we are here somewhere... look we’re on place 38! (out of 42)

Juho: Yeah but look, [Pekka] Rinne & Mujunen are 39th!

Juuse: Yeah the only goal was to be better than them!

It’s auction time!

Teuvo’s jersey is sold at 1300€. He’s happy boi <3 (look)

Sebastian comes on stage to introduce his All Stars jersey and says that it’s more valuable because they won the All Stars game, to which Pekka shouts from the crowd that it was only good luck. Sebastian reminds that they scored quite many goals on Peksi too. ”Sepe is still so young that he doesn’t get the whole idea of the All Stars game” Pekka jokes. Sebastian’s jersey is sold at 3000€ and he is shooketh

but also very happy about it

Pekka and Jussi try to buy each other out when auctioning something, and Jussi wins and spends 2000€.

Juuse jokes that his jersey wasn’t valuable enough to be a part of the auction, so it ended up being a price in free lottery.

Sorry for the low-quality-english! The vocabulary really troubled me more than it should’ve. I was too lazy to properly translate the beginning with Nuti, sorry for that too :(
