The dawn crept in through the thin curtains, soft light painting the dingy motel room in muted hues. Y/N stirred, the distant hum of traffic and the occasional bird call nudging her awake. For a moment, she didn’t remember where she was. Then she felt it—warmth beside her.
Test was still asleep, his arm slung lazily over his side of the bed. Somehow during the night, the unspoken barrier between them had vanished. His broad shoulder brushed hers, his long legs tangled slightly with hers beneath the sheets. She froze for a second, her heart skipping.
He looked… peaceful. The sharp lines of his face, so often hardened with intensity or cocky grins, were softened now. His chest rose and fell in a steady rhythm, and for a brief moment, Y/N wondered what it would be like to wake up like this every day.
Her thoughts were interrupted by the distant rumble of an engine outside. She stiffened, instinct kicking in.
“Test,” she whispered, nudging his shoulder. He didn’t move.
“Test!” she hissed, shaking him harder.
His eyes fluttered open, squinting against the pale morning light. “What?” he grumbled, voice thick with sleep.
“Someone’s here,” she said, nodding toward the window.
In an instant, he was alert, sitting up and running a hand through his messy blond hair. He leaned over to peek through the curtain, his sharp gaze scanning the lot.
“Relax,” he said after a moment. “Just a truck pulling into the diner next door.”
Y/N exhaled, her shoulders slumping. “Great. Add paranoia to the list of things keeping me awake.”
Test smirked, leaning back against the headboard. “You could’ve just stayed asleep. You looked cozy enough last night.”
She rolled her eyes, but the warmth in her cheeks betrayed her. “Don’t get used to it. Last night was an exception.”
“Sure,” he drawled, his smirk widening. “Because you totally hated it.”
Y/N grabbed a pillow and swatted him, laughing despite herself. He caught it mid-swing, pulling it from her hands and tossing it aside with ease.
“Easy, tiger,” he teased. “We’ve got bigger problems than your fear of sharing a bed.”
She sobered at that, the reality of their situation settling back over her. “Right. Any ideas on our next move, genius?”
Test shrugged, his easy demeanor never faltering. “Lay low for another day, maybe two. Let them think we’ve skipped town. Then we figure out who’s after you and why.”
She frowned, leaning forward and resting her elbows on her knees. “I told you, I don’t know who it is. I didn’t even realize that ring was worth anything.”
“Yeah, well, someone thinks it is,” Test said, his voice hardening slightly. “And until we figure out what’s going on, you’re stuck with me.”
“Lucky me,” Y/N muttered, though the corner of her mouth twitched in a reluctant smile.
“Damn right,” he said, leaning closer. “Now, you gonna make us some coffee, or do I have to do everything around here?”
Y/N shoved him playfully as she stood, grabbing the cheap coffee pot from the counter. Despite everything—the danger, the uncertainty—there was something comforting about this moment.
Maybe, just maybe, having Test around wasn’t so bad after all.
To be continued?

Birds of a Feather! Part 3 Test
Test x Y/n
Warnings: Cuteness!!
Word Count: 950
A/N: Let’s get into it.
Tumblr media
The day dragged on slowly, the hours bleeding into one another as Y/N and Test huddled in the motel room, exchanging plans, half-hearted conversations, and the occasional bout of silence that felt more comfortable with every passing moment.
Test’s laid-back demeanor had a way of making everything feel… easier. Even when they discussed the people hunting her down or the ring that had somehow become the focal point of a much bigger problem, Test’s presence had a calming effect on her nerves.
Still, the gnawing feeling of being watched lingered in the back of her mind. Every car that passed the window, every footstep in the hallway outside made her jump. Y/N couldn’t shake the sense that it was only a matter of time before whoever was after her caught up to them.
Test had noticed her jumpiness, of course, but instead of pushing her to talk about it, he simply kept the room quiet, leaving the radio on in the background and occasionally tossing her one of his lazy smirks. It wasn’t much, but it helped her stay grounded.
Around dusk, as the fading light filtered in through the blinds, Y/N had just finished taking a shower when she came back into the room to find Test sitting at the small table, fiddling with his phone.
“What are you doing?” she asked, glancing over his shoulder.
Test glanced up, offering a half smile. “Trying to get some info on who’s looking for you. It’s not a lot, but it’s something. I think whoever’s after you knows who you’re connected to.”
Y/N hesitated. “What does that mean?”
He paused, tapping the screen. “Means your past’s catching up with you. Your name’s tied to more than just a ring, Y/N.”
The air between them grew thick as Y/N processed the information. It felt like the floor had dropped out from under her. She hadn’t even realized how far back her problems went, and now… now it was all coming to a head.
“Great,” Y/N muttered, rubbing a hand through her damp hair. “So, I’m just some pawn in someone else’s game.”
“Not if I can help it,” Test replied firmly, setting his phone down and pushing out of his chair. “We’ll figure this out together. I told you, I’m not going anywhere.”
She shook her head. “You don’t get it, Test. I don’t even know who I’m running from. I’m the one who should be doing the protecting, not you.”
Test stepped closer, his eyes locked on hers, the intensity of his gaze not leaving a single inch of space between them. “You don’t have to do this alone. I’m with you, whether you like it or not.”
Y/N swallowed hard, her heart racing as she found herself caught in his stare. There was something in his words that made her feel safer, even if she wasn’t sure she should.
“Why are you helping me?” she asked quietly, unsure if she even wanted to know the answer.
Test’s expression softened, and for a moment, he looked almost… vulnerable. “Because I don’t trust anyone else to keep you safe. And because, despite what you think, you’re not just some job to me.”
She didn’t have a chance to respond before the loud bang of the motel door being kicked in echoed through the room.
Test’s reflexes were fast—instantly, he was at the door, his body tense, ready for a fight. Y/N didn’t even have time to register what was happening before the door burst open, revealing two masked figures standing in the threshold.
Without a word, Test lunged forward, knocking one of the intruders to the floor. The other reached for a weapon, but Y/N was faster, grabbing the lamp from the nightstand and swinging it with all the force she could muster. The intruder stumbled back, clutching their face as the lamp shattered on impact.
Test didn’t stop moving, his focus razor-sharp as he threw the second attacker against the wall. The sound of fists meeting flesh echoed in the room as he went to work, taking out the threat with practiced efficiency.
Y/N, heart pounding, stayed near the wall, watching as Test handled the situation. She had no idea who these people were, or why they were after her now, but one thing was for certain: she wasn’t alone in this anymore.
The first attacker groaned, trying to regain their footing. “You don’t know what you’re up against,” they spat. “You’re dead, both of you.”
Test delivered a swift punch to their jaw, silencing them with a final, decisive blow. He stood over the crumpled bodies, his chest rising and falling with the adrenaline of the fight.
“You okay?” Test asked, glancing over at Y/N, who was still trying to steady her breathing.
“I’m fine,” she muttered, wiping a stray lock of hair from her face. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d felt this shaken.
Test’s eyes softened, his usual cocky smirk replaced with something more genuine. “You’re a lot tougher than you look, Y/N.”
She met his gaze, realizing, for the first time, that he wasn’t just saying that to make her feel better.
“Guess I owe you one,” she said, the words coming out before she could think.
Test’s lips twitched, the familiar grin returning. “You can start by making me that coffee I asked for earlier.”
Y/N smirked despite herself. “You’re insufferable, you know that?”
“But you love it,” he shot back.
As they shared a brief moment of calm amidst the chaos, Y/N realized that maybe, just maybe, she hadn’t been the only one who had needed someone to trust.
