its kinda weird how much misinfo there is around the term proship. im a proshipper whos been around since earrrlyyyy fandom, and when it was first used, it literally meant “pro shipping”. it changed based on the fandom, but it generally meant you liked shipping, engaged in shipping content, and didnt care much about the history, background, etc of the characters you shipped. basically, if you thought it was unique or cute, you shipped it. antiship was just the opposite. being antiship in early fandom usually just meant either a) you didnt post shipping content or didnt ship characters, or b) you had a set few OTPs and didnt post shipping content if it wasnt abt them. the terms werent that popular either. it wasnt until people started saying fake stuff on tiktok and twitter that “proshippers are groomers!” or “antishippers are harassers!” did they become popular, when in reality, when they were first used, neither had set opinions on what someone can or cant do.
