The first tweet by Terrance Higgins Trust @THTorguk reads "NEW: The number of HIV diagnoses in heterosexual people is higher than in gay and bisexual men for the first time in a decade.
Straight people are also far more likely to be diagnosed late and less likely to get tested #HIVTestingWeek ☝"
The second tweet by matt @/mattxiv reads "that's crazy will they be allowed to donate blood?"

UK Survey Highlights HIV Care Satisfaction
Tumblr media
Unveiling Insights from the UK's Largest HIV Survey
The Positive Voices 2022 survey, conducted by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), offers a comprehensive look into the lives of people living with HIV in the UK, shedding light on their satisfaction with HIV care and treatment but also highlighting enduring challenges.
High Satisfaction with HIV Care and Treatment
Continual Improvement in HIV Services The survey, completed by 4,618 individuals diagnosed with HIV, indicates a high level of satisfaction with HIV care services, with an average rating of 9.4 out of 10 in 2022. This rating shows an improvement from 9.3 in 2017, reflecting the ongoing enhancements in HIV treatment and care.   Treatment Plans and Regimens Most participants (91.7%) expressed satisfaction with their current treatment plans. A notable shift is seen in the regimen, with 54.0% now receiving a single tablet regimen, up from 35.7% in 2017, indicating advancements in treatment simplicity and efficacy.
The Persistent Challenge of Stigma
Disturbing Levels of Discrimination Despite the advances in treatment, the survey reveals that stigma remains a significant issue. A concerning 4.3% of participants reported verbal harassment due to their HIV status, and a similar percentage faced discriminatory remarks from family members.   Impact on Self-Esteem and Healthcare Experiences The survey finds that one in three people reported low self-esteem linked to their HIV status. Additionally, there is anxiety about being treated differently by healthcare staff, with one in ten people not disclosing their status to anyone outside healthcare professionals.
Mental Health: A Crucial Aspect
High Prevalence of Mental Health Conditions Alarmingly, 22% of participants reported symptoms of anxiety or depression, with half of these individuals diagnosed with a mental health condition. This statistic underscores the need for integrated mental health support within HIV care.   History of Violence The survey also highlights a high incidence of physical and sexual violence, with more than one in four experiencing physical violence. This aspect further complicates the mental health challenges faced by those living with HIV.
Voices of Advocacy and Support
Clare Humphreys' Observations Clare Humphreys, Consultant in Health Protection at UKHSA, notes the encouraging satisfaction with HIV treatment and care. However, she stresses the prevalence of stigma and mental health issues, highlighting their impact on accessing care and overall well-being.   Alex Sparrowhawk's Perspective Alex Sparrowhawk, from the Terrance Higgins Trust, calls for further work and investment. He points out that while satisfaction with HIV care is high, there is a need for broader support, including psychological services and social and welfare support, especially as people with HIV live longer.   Deborah Gold's Call to Action Deborah Gold, Chief Executive of the National AIDS Trust, emphasizes the survey's role in revealing the inequalities faced by people living with HIV. She advocates for meaningful engagement to address these challenges and the prevalent stigma.
Conclusions and Future Directions
Ministerial and Organizational Responses Public Health Minister Andrea Leadsom and other health officials recognize the importance of talking about HIV status and tackling stigma. They reiterate commitments to ending HIV transmission by 2030 and expanding mental health services.   The Importance of Testing and Prevention The survey findings also highlight the critical role of HIV testing and the benefits of PrEP in prevention strategies. It reinforces the message that effective HIV treatment prevents transmission, underscoring the importance of awareness and testing.
Addressing Systemic Challenges
This extensive survey paints a picture of progress and challenges in the landscape of HIV care in the UK. While there is commendable satisfaction with treatment and care, the survey brings to light the crucial issues of stigma, mental health, and the need for comprehensive support. It calls for a collective effort from the government, healthcare providers, and communities to address these systemic challenges and barriers, ensuring that everyone living with HIV can thrive.   Sources: THX News & UK Health Security Agency. “I see the danger, It’s written there in your eyes.”
Day No: 4
Prompt:n cattle prod
Fandom: Murdoch Mysteries
Medium: fic
Trigger Warnings: none
SFW
Ogden had a thrum of excitement and fear as she sneaked around the office building. Murdoch and her had entered the building, eerily deserted as they tried to find a person that was wanted in connection with a murder. Neither of their phones worked, which pointed to an illegal mobile jammer somewhere in the building. They had made way to go back outside and wait for backup from Crabtree and Higgins. Except the door had locked behind them, electronically as well.
Unsure on whether it was a trap, or a security function, the two decided to go further into the building. There had to be a person, or some sort of communication outside that they could find and figure out what was going on. Having gone through the first floor, and then the second, the third floor caused a bit of a problem. Searching two different rooms, the doors had latched behind them. And each produced a set of stairs. Hers went back down. Murdoch’s went up. Once they realized they wouldn’t be able to get back together, they went forward, being cut off from each other.
Admittedly, this felt like those cheesy spy films she watched late night while nursing Llewellyn. She still watched them when he started sleeping through the night, and then when she was cursed with writer’s block. The main character walking through an evil boss’s base trying to find the MacGuffin before it can destroy a nation or take over the world.
A lot funner than the stuff around Terrance Meyers and what happened in their last lives. And that blasted Allen Clegg. Thank someone that they haven’t come back to haunt them yet. She knows that Clegg will attack her family this time. Meyers might threaten them as well.
She heard new noises, coming down to this area. She was back on the second floor, she figured, but this was an area cut off from them this time. They had been seeing normal offices and cubicles. This was a much more threatening area. Industrial, it appeared to be the inner workings of the building. Water pipes and heating vents. She kept going, carefully looking around corners and making sure her footsteps weren’t echoing loudly. Thankfully, she switched shoes. Instead of the heels that she normally wore, it was running shoes thanks to joining William in the morning. She hadn’t switched before going with him.
The end of the corridor led back up and she shook her head before going back up to floor three. This time, she didn’t end up in the offices, but behind the scenes. Continuing forward, she wondered if it would also led up, and eventually she could find a door to rejoin Murdoch.
She had not noticed the item coming at her, had not noticed the person that quickly appeared at her left before something was shoved into her ribs. Something blasted through her body and she screamed in pain before dropping to the ground.
*Oh, bloody hell, that hurt worse than slipping on black ice and crashing to the ground during a Toronto February blizzard.*
Unable to move away, the item came down again and she barely saw before it was placed against the opposite side and triggered. It might have been the same amount of time. Might have been less or more. She couldn’t tell. Just let out another pain filled wail before her body registered that it had stopped.
After the pain managed to leave a tiny bit away from her mind, she noticed that the person was holding a long stick with two metal pieces at the end. *Prod, oh that was a cattle prod. Fucking bastard, I’m still feeling the shocks.* The person holding it was wearing a mask and covered well enough that she can’t tell who it is.
The thing came down at her again.
“Oh, don’t you-” she tried, before a third time caused her to scream in agony. Ogden finally fell unconscious when her body couldn’t handle it any more.

George had been pacing his hotel room for an hour. His jacket, a nice one for the dinners he was attending, was draped over a chair. Thankfully, there was no blood on it. He had been following what appeared to be his superior, Detective Murdoch. Dressed completely strange, as he was in a leather jacket and denim, he approached him when he thought he was by himself. He had no idea what was going on. Where Doctor Ogden was? George thought the man went insane, ran off.
He had come here after almost being in a brawl with the other man. Having gone to confront him about the radical change, several of the others in the ‘club’ had helped in dragging him out after the Detective gave him a few punches to the chest.
What is wrong with Detective Murdoch? Has he finally gone insane? Did the stress of the new baby, the Black Hand, Detective Watts’s horrific lovelife, Higgins and Jordan, his newly found son?!
“Oi, bugalugs!”
“Inspector?” he asked, wondering when the man had managed to get into his hotel room. “Sir? What has been happening?” Then, he spotted the other man that was probably the reason for his ability to get in. “Terrance Meyers,” he groaned.
“Constable Crabtree,” he greeted, ignoring the tone. “Right, the only thing you really need to know is two things. Detective Murdoch went undercover, something of which you almost blew, and has now been captured.”
“Captured?!” he exclaimed. Almost blew? I’m fairly sure I blew it if the Detective has been captured! Oh no, I did say his name when I confronted him at that bar. That must have been it! I led someone to figuring out sir’s real identity and now he’s been captured!
“Crabtree!” Brackenreid loudly said, gaining his attention again, “We know where they are. You and I are getting them out.”
We’re getting them out? We’re getting them out! Them? “Them? Them?! There’s more than just Murdoch?” he asked, almost demanded, because they weren’t exactly telling him what was going on.
Meyers looked over at Brackenreid, who hadn’t been happy when he had learned the extent of what had happened “We believe that Murdoch will be used again Mr. Watts.”
Mr. Watts? Used against Mr. Watts?! Detective Watts?! Brackenreid motioned for Meyers to ignore them for a bit when George stood there shocked over what had been going on beyond his authors’ tour. He needed Crabtree into action now, questions much later. Couldn’t spend two hours explaining things now. A sharp tone might get him going fast, but it likely would lead to confusion.
Brackenreid had only used this one during his time in the military. Lots of lads that would go ramrod straight and needed something different than a captain yelling orders or a smack to the back of the head.
George only registered that something was crushing him? No, not crushing him. The inspector was wrapped around him. Oh, a hug. He hadn’t had one of those in a long time. No, he hadn’t had any celebratory, consolatory, hugs in a few months. There had been the hold and kiss with Effie before he left.
A hug he could use, eagerly wrapping around the older man. His heart started slowing down, and his mind stopped its endless listing of everything that was going bad right at that moment. Instead, it focused, which is what he needed when the important part of what he just learned popped up in his head.
Detective Murdoch and Detective Watts are in danger.
The hug only broke when Meyers cleared his throat for attention. Crabtree and Brackenreid turned to face the last man. “Change your clothes, Constable,” he said, walking out.
