March 19, 2025 - Tepui Brushfinch (Atlapetes personatus) These brushfinches are found in parts of Venezuela, Brazil, and Guyana in and around mountain forests. The details of their diet are unknown but they likely eat insects and seeds, foraging in pairs or small groups, sometimes with other species. Little is known about their breeding behavior, though their nests are thought to be cup-shaped, like those of closely related species.

Vireo Showdown; Bracket 4, Poll 4

Fun Fact!
Philadelphia: told from the very similar Warbling Vireo by how much cuter it is- having bigger eyes on a small head and round body do contribute to this bird's (scientifically proven) cute appearance
Tepui: with only 270 sightings on eBird and 10 photos, this is our least "reported" vireo in the tourney
Warbling: their song has been described as "a happy drunk making a conversational point at a party"
For more information on these birds, check out these Species Features:

The oldest place on planet earth is in Venezuela. It's called Mount Roraima.
—
Mount Roraima is located in the northern part of South America and on the triple border between Venezuela, Brazil, and Guyana.
Located in the Canaima National Park, it is the highest of the tepuis — a type of table-shaped mountain very characteristic of the Guiana Plateau — standing almost 3,000 metres above sea level.
Mount Roraima is composed of sandstone of the Proterozoic Eon formed about 1.7 to 2 billion years ago, therefore among the oldest rocks on Earth.
It contains a large amount of quartz deposits, 98% are silica particles, forming white or pinkish crystals several centimetres long.
