The only thing that made me scratch my head for 3x02 (apart from all the Nark desperation) was how Bess suddenly could PRACTICE OCCULT and what this development possibly holds for Nancy.

See, in the past, the Drew Crew led by Nancy have perfomed rituals (occult, not magic) and have been successful.

But we have never seen neither Bess nor Nancy voluntarily (unless it was about investigation or for protection) venture into the field in order to continue their heritage or hold any power. Now that Bess has officially step foot into the occult-channelling part of the playing field, I'm afraid that the humanly nuance to their characters in this show, where we're surrounded by the supernatural, would diminish under the light of their newly emerging cool witchcraft-wielding torchbearers.

The Drew Crew had us hooked from the beginning because they were human in a world full of unhuman shadows. We needed that specific contrast and the flexible yet consequential tightrope walk between the living and the dead or the human and the supernatural.

Once that barrier is breached with grand attempts like occult practice and such, I'm afraid the show would take a different path (I have nothing against such a storyline but this Nancy Drew that we have had till now was one of a kind and I'd want to keep it that way).

It will be undoubtedly awesome to see Bess do something cool and have powers of her own besides being emotional support and the only character without a love interest. I'm excited to see where the writers take her story from 3x02 and hope it doesn't veer pur favorite show into a direction like that of Supernatural or TVD where, in the beginning, they fight the dead, and then they become the dead or something like that...
