RP-VITA "Remote Presence - Virtual & Independent Telemedicine Assistant" (2012) by iRobot (Bedford, MA) and InTouch. iRobot launched the RP-VITA in collaboration with InTouch Health, as a remote telepresence robot for doctors. The RP-VITA has FDA approval to be used as a medical device, enabling doctors to treat patients remotely. A spin-off company, Ava Robotics, was formed in 2016 to sell the whole family of AVA robots (second photo) including the RP-VITA. "Leveraging a deep technical heritage from iRobot, Ava Robotics designs and builds autonomous robots that comfortably coexist with humans in workplaces and other large spaces. Ava Robotics is transforming what it means to collaborate by combining autonomous mobility with Cisco’s high definition video conferencing. Ava Robotics engineers are developing these products based on what we call “practical teleportation”, enabling workers to easily and safely move around a remote location as if they are physically there." – Welcoming AVA Robotics to Our Family, Innospark Ventures.

Remote telepresence robot
A transportable gadget containing cameras, microphones, and screens that lets users engage with their environment in real time is called a remote telepresence robot. These internet-controlled robots serve as a user's physical avatar in remote locations, providing mobility and interactivity features that go beyond those of conventional video conferencing equipment.
Key Features of Telepresence Robots
Superior Audio and Video Quality:
With their sophisticated microphones and high-definition cameras, telepresence robots provide immersive experiences and unobstructed communication.
Mobility
These robots offer a dynamic perspective of the surroundings since, in contrast to immobile gadgets, they can move around on their own or with remote control.
Interfaces that are easy to use:
The majority of robots have user-friendly control systems that may be accessed by computers, tablets, or cellphones.
Interactive Screens:
By enabling users to see their faces during interactions, integrated screens help to create a more intimate relationship.
High-Tech Sensors:
These robots can move safely and effectively through a variety of environments since they are outfitted with navigation and obstacle detection systems.
Advantages of Telepresence Robots
Economical:
They save time and money by doing away with travel costs and the requirement for in-person attendance.
Increased Involvement:
Compared to static video conversations, the flexibility to move and communicate remotely guarantees a more intimate and captivating encounter.
Enhanced Availability:
Telepresence robots enable seamless communication, space exploration, and event attendance for people with mobility impairments.
Worldwide Reach:
Global collaboration is fostered by the ease with which businesses and individuals can communicate across nations and continents.
Remote telepresence robots are bridges that span distances to link people and ideas; they are more than just machines. These robots are a prime example of how technology can bring people together, whether it's a student attending class from home or a doctor saving lives from thousands of miles away.
The limits of physical presence will be increasingly blurred as telepresence robots develop, giving the impression that the world is smaller, more interconnected, and more cooperative. The future is already here and just has to be welcomed if you're thinking of using telepresence technology in your personal or professional life.
