on sandy i don’t get why people insist she’s like evil for being a dead beat when the show literally goes out of the way to show that her kid is extremely well adjusted and doesn’t want sandy to be his mother, and that debbie was projecting onto her. like. there wasn’t really any complexities about that, they made it so straight up. her situation was awful and i don’t blame her for not wanting to be around her kid or her husband.

don’t get it with mickey either, maybe a little more but i still think it’s morally okay to not want to be a parent to a kid born from rape or teenage pregnancy?? i feel bad for svet for having to essentially be a single mother but i still don’t think it was necessarily mickey’s responsibility

yeah! i'm glad you saw it so clearcut, i did, too, but sooo many people acted like it was ambiguous i was slightly like wtf am i nuts. 😅 tbh even before we even saw her kid in person so to speak, it seemed pretty obvious to me. I mean, oh, a gay milkovich had a kid they didn't want? where have i seen this before?? i'm intrigued that you get people's discomfort more with mickey, i've mostly seen people be extremely understanding with mickey's initial (not even permanent) desire to Not be around his kid, and then so oddly negative towards sandy. i attributed this to a couple factors

misogyny. like duh. even people who think they're woman defenders or whatever fall into the trap of expecting women to be mothers. it's infuriating.

- this even tangles into my problem with some of the svetlana fans who i WANT to see as allies, as a svetlana enjoyer, but CANNOT, as a moral nuance enjoyer. whos not super sw negative. lol

-debbie fans i think have this problem too. debbie's interest in motherhood is interesting & a character trait. it's not like, redemption for the things she does that are bad

2. projection. i think a lot of these people just relate really hard to debbie about the monica thing and did exactly what she did.

-i dont LIKE this but it's understandable. i generally just scoff and move on with this one bc whatever you have your own issues you're relating to in debbie. this is also why i've held off on some thoughts i had on fionaposts til i can phrase them right. like ok you're clearly overrelating here i should be nice

-i take sandy's side in the breakup but i still think debbie has the right not to want to hang out with her. i LOVE a tv breakup where i see both perspectives as more or less understandable <333 what a satisfying & sad little ending

3. sandy's backstory w/ her kid is not as explicit as mickey's.

-that is, the viewer sees up close and horribly personal exactly what happened with mickey, with sandy we're left to infer. i thought it was plenty clear that whatever the details it was traumatic.

-since seeing how people reacted to some things about this show i've become a LOT more forgiving of how fucking, long and intolerable certain scenes are. not limited to svetlana's first appearance but definitely including that. some people still didn't get it so idk about them but perhaps the point did need to be hammered home

-though also this could lead to it taking longer to be at peace with mickey's initial desire not to acknowledge yevgeny. you see all the ugly parts of his rejection -- "fuck you, that's his name" -- which really made me worry at first as well. i already knew i agreed that he shouldn't have to be this kid's dad & i didn't want to see him reject him

Anyway,

you were able to narrow it down accurately to svetlana being a single mother. i hadn't thought much on that perspective, i've mostly gone back and forth in my head on how i view her perspective in having a child: did she want a kid and just figure it may as well be this one? did she want an abortion but couldn't afford/was pressured not to? did she NOT want a kid, but not believe in abortions for personal reasons? side note: it's exactly as much an autonomy violation to force someone to get an abortion as to force them not to. no matter the reason. unfortunately, there's no easy way out once any part of this plot took off - it'd have been less horrifying for mickey if she'd quietly aborted the pregnancy, but that's a different can of worms if she wanted to keep a pregnancy and felt pressured not to

i've mentioned a bit mickey's attachment / separation from yevgeny both being forced in a really really sad way. so i also hadn't considered much of her role as a single mother because she didn't necessarily have to be. + she tends to jump headfirst into relationships so you never see her on her own for long.

screenshot or description of the worst take you've seen on tumblr - I think it was either the person who was convinced that Ian didn't love Mickey as much as Mickey loves Ian (incorrect. inaccurate. wrong.), people saying that Debbie is the worst person on the show and acting like she's a vile and cruel bitch when for most of the show she's a teenage girl struggling to live with the hand she's been dealt, or anyone who says Svetlana was being a manipulative bitch and tricking everyone by saying that Yevgeny is Mickey's when he's secretly Terry's (literally, why the fuck would she do that) and that she's a rapist when she was literally just as much of a victim. I know the first one doesn't quite match with the other two but I was feeling incredibly petty the day I saw that take and it just stuck with me wrong, especially when the person in question turned around three days later and acted like they were the biggest Ian fan and like they hadn't just slagged off his whole character in the aforementioned post.

what was the last straw that made you finally block that annoying person? lmao the bad Ian take mentioned above, and the person who said I had terrible takes re: Fiona and sex work and that they were gonna sic Fiona TikTok girlies on me. I laughed about that one for a week straight, let me tell you.

you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc) - I don't get half the AUs that people come up with (I'm especially not a sports person so like, sports AUs aren't my thing at all), but they don't necessarily bother me? I just ignore them and go on my way. But what really grinds my gears is seeing any amount of "Debbie is a terrible mother so gallavich raises Franny" fics because a) Debbie is a good mom and adores her daughter and b) Franny can still have a good relationship with them as her uncles, they don't need to be her dads.

there should be more of this type of fic/art - more shotgunning in fic because what else are two bored and horny gay teen boys gonna do?? more fem gallavich is absolutely needed, too. I'd also love to see more fic that focuses on the summer of love (aka s2) with Ian and Mickey, and more pre-canon/early canon fic of the Milkoviches and the Gallaghers.

Ahhhh!!! I am so excited that this is done!! I had SO much fun making it! Especially once I decided what I wanted to do with the lights!

So I have several multi chapter fics that I love love LOVE and I felt bad trying to choose between them. My initial idea was to make a bookshelf of books of the fics, BUT then I had the idea to make my dream library, so that's what I did!

If I could make my own library it would look like this, a fireplace, some windows, books everywhere, and one of those rolling ladders.

Starry Night is one of my favorite paintings ever, I want a comfy ass chair next to a fire place, and the flowers I ordered from Etsy aren't here so there's a plant.

But I want a library where I can paint and do crafts, I made that jack daniels and orange juice pic at work today, the little shelf is my Currently Reading books, and the big bookcases are sorted, one is my TBR for the fandom, (I believe it's the one on the left) and the one on the right is the multi chapter fics and one shots I love and couldn't leave out. The ladder is because I want a rolling ladder for my library like in Beauty and the Beast.

I just realized a couple of these bitches are upside down, but it's an hour past my bedtime and I'm not fixing them.

Honestly I can't tell by the pics which bookcase is my TBR case, SO I'm just going to use my googledoc and put the fics and authors on here.

The second, fifth and sixth shelves are blank books.

This one is pretty damn full so I think it's the TBR shelf, but I could also be wrong!

Mandy never used to believe that Ian and Mickey would last.

To be fair, the day she found out was also the day their relationship reached its first real breaking point. (Though a part of her remembers not feeling shocked at all, all the pieces – Ian seeing someone he refused to name, Ian overly concerned about Mickey’s wedding, Mickey always conveniently showing up whenever she and Ian were hanging out – suddenly falling into place.)

And she’d taken Ian’s side because- well, as far as she could see Mickey was fucking Ian over just so he could stay in the closet. She’d been wrong, obviously, though no one’s ever actually told her that directly. But there were enough context clues for her to more or less figure out what had happened – especially after the night of Yevgeny’s christening.

So she’d found out about them and she’d been around them and she knew, deep down, they loved each other. But to her it had always seemed like a doomed sort of love. In the way that love tends to be if you’re a Milkovich or a Gallagher.

She’d watched for about a year and a half as they’d clung to each other, desperately trying to make it work despite the world throwing every fucking problem it possibly could at them. And then one day it ended and she wasn’t in Chicago anymore and she still wishes she could’ve said she was surprised when she heard the news.

Time passed after that and she didn’t really talk much to either them but she hoped they’d move on. At least, she knew Ian was trying.

Then one day she’d gotten a phonecall from Beckman Correctional and Mickey was on the other line. (She’d known he’d escaped prison the first time – the cops had come knocking on her door too.) And it was strange talking to him after so long but nice too. In its own way. She’d nearly dropped the phone when he told her Ian was his cellmate.

(She’d heard about that too – Gay Jesus could still reach her even in Boston.)

After that Mickey started using his weekly phonecall to call her while Ian, with a much longer laundry list of relatives, started calling her once a month. It had been the most she’d spoken to either of them in years but she liked it – it made her feel connected to someone again, like her family hadn’t been totally obliterated.

She hadn’t planned on missing the wedding.

But part of getting her shit together meant not flaking on work responsibilities and she’d been roped into securing some account in Toronto with her boss and couldn’t get out of it. She’d managed to score a long weekend off a few weeks later though and promised she’d come visit then which had seemed to be enough to appease them both.

That’s how she finds herself standing on the steps of the Gallagher house on a Friday in February with an overnight bag on her shoulder.

Ian had insisted there’d be plenty of room for her here but she’ll believe that when she sees it. There’s always more people than there should be in this house. She hesitates for a moment, considering knocking but then feeling weird for even thinking it. No one knocks on the door to the Gallagher house. Testing the handle, she finds it unlocked and gently pushes it open.

The house is a lot quieter than it used to be and it throws her for a loop for a moment before she hears voices in the kitchen.

She steps further into the living room, pausing by the back of the couch when she catches sight of Ian and Mickey through the kitchen door. They’re…doing dishes. She thinks.

More specifically, they’re laughing as Ian replaces the glasses in the cabinet and Mickey idly spins a dishtowel in his hand.

“You’re so full of shit!” Mickey’s saying and the size of his grin momentarily leaves Mandy dumbstruck. She can’t even remember the last time Mickey smiled like that. Looking so…content and at ease and happy in own skin.

“I swear to god!” Ian exclaims, turning away from the cabinets and giving Mandy a clear view of the mischievous expression on his face as he holds in a laugh. “The guy’s dick was fuckin’ purple. Nastiest shit I’ve ever seen.”

Mickey makes a face before dropping the towel on the counter and taking the two steps it takes to put himself in Ian’s path. He cups Ian’s face between his hands and says, very solemnly, “You ever break my dick when we’re having sex and I’ll break your neck.”

Ian barks out a laugh and Mandy has to quickly bite her lip to stop a snort of her own as she watches Ian’s hands fit to her brother’s waist. “Pretty sure I’m the one who needs to worry about that,” he points out, expression light and amused as he quirks an eyebrow at Mickey’s reply.

He says it too quietly for Mandy to hear but whatever it is they’re kissing hardly a second later. She considers clearing her throat to make her presence known then because she knows what happens when Ian and Mickey start kissing when they’ve got the house to themselves but they break apart after a few seconds with matching grins. Ian looks up absentmindedly and his eyes land on her, his grin freezing on his face.

“Mandy!” he says, surprise and excitement colouring his voice. He lets his hands fall from Mickey’s waist just as Mickey turns to look at her.

She only has the briefest moment to share a look with him before Ian’s bounding over and sweeping her into a hug. “Hey,” he breathes, squeezing her tight. “Sorry, we didn’t hear you come in.”

Mandy hugs him back and instantly feels herself calm. Ian’s presence has always been comforting. She still remembers stealing whatever bit of affection she could from him when they were teenagers. When he dutifully let her call him her boyfriend even after it became very clear that was never gonna happen.

“It’s okay,” she says on a laugh. “You two looked busy.”

Ian leans back with a bashful expression, squeezing her shoulders before stepping out of the way so she can say hi to Mickey. There’s a single second where they both flounder as they stare at each other before Mickey’s pulling her into a hug and letting out a soft, “Hey.”

She doesn’t expect it but as she wraps her arms around Mickey’s shoulders she can’t help the feeling of déjà-vu that hits her, thinking back to the day she and Ian went to pick Mickey up from juvie. It’s a similar hug, light and familiar and comfortable, and it makes her smile.

In a lot of ways, they used to be normal siblings. They’d been the closest in age out of all their siblings and as the two youngest they sort of naturally fell into that dynamic of driving each other insane while also being willing to defend each other to the death.

Things got more complicated as they got older. Their words becoming sharper sometimes, their inability to help each other like they used to suddenly paralysing them both and making it difficult to know how to interact.

But this feels like before.

Mickey messes up her hair when she pulls away and, inexplicably, it makes a lump form in her throat. Fuck, it’s been so long since they could just joke with each other. But Mandy hasn’t had bruises on her face for years and Mickey has a wedding ring on his finger that he actually wants so maybe it’s time they can get back to that.

“You kept the blonde, huh?” Mickey says when he steps back and Mandy lifts her chin in a haughty smirk.

“Anything to stop people from saying I look like your ugly mug,” she retorts, slipping back into an old banter that comes to her without even thinking about it.

“Bitch,” Mickey grumbles but he’s smiling like he’s amused.

Ian’s hand lands on Mickey’s shoulder before his other reaches for Mandy. “Mands, drop your bag. We can talk in the kitchen.”

Mandy does as she’s told, letting Ian shepherd them both into the kitchen. She tries not to smirk at the fact Mickey doesn’t shrug Ian off this time, electing instead to wind his own arm around Ian’s waist.

They sit at the kitchen table as Ian goes to the fridge to inspect its contents. “You want a drink?” he asks over his shoulder. “We’ve got beer, milk, orange juice, soda, coffee-“

“Coffee sounds good,” she says. The flight hadn’t been all that long but travelling always wears her out a little.

“Mick?” Ian asks and Mickey considers him for just a second before saying, “Make one for me too.”

Mandy raises an eyebrow at him and he ducks his head, looking embarrassed. “’m tryna stop drinking beer before five o’clock.”

The laugh that comes out of her is a little disbelieving but she’s impressed. It’s rare to see Mickey actively trying to take care of himself.

Ian sets the coffee pot going and there’s a sort of awkward pause where none of them quite know what to say before she finally decides on the safest topic. “So tell me about the wedding.”

Mickey scoffs at the same time Ian laughs and she looks between them until Mickey says, “Long version or short version?”

And is that even a question. “Long,” she says decisively.

As Ian returns to the table with their coffees they regale her with the complicated events leading up to their wedding ceremony – including her dad burning their fucking venue down.

“Have you heard from him since?” she asks, feeling an old anxiety twist around her spine. She can’t say she’s missed Terry Milkovich since she’s been gone.

“Not since he shot up our fuckin’ honeymoon suite,” Mickey mutters and Mandy feels a pang of sympathy for them. It’s about fucking time the two of them just got to be happy with no strings attached.

Before she can say anything though Ian’s hand reaches out to grasp Mickey’s on the table-top and Mickey offers him a small, grateful smile. And it’s these little moments that keep shocking her, really. The causal ways they touch each other or look at each other. The way they keep picking up each other’s sentences as they tell the wedding story.

Everything about their relationship before had felt so life or death, these moments of just being were few and far between.

Eventually the conversation about the wedding winds down and Ian asks her about her job and it’s weird, the three of them having such a grown-up conversation, but every second word out of Mickey’s mouth is still “fuck” and Ian’s still got that puppy-dog grin he used to wear when he was fifteen so maybe things haven’t changed all that much.

Ian gets up when Liam comes home from school, following him up the stairs to help him move whatever he needs out of his bedroom and into Carl’s while Mandy stays over since, “Liam’s room is definitely the cleanest,” and Mandy watches Mickey watch Ian, a soft smile on his lips as he stares after Ian until he’s out of sight.

Mickey’s gaze returns to the table then but the smile is still there. After a second or two of silence Mandy kicks his leg under the table. Mickey’s gaze snaps up to stare at her. “What?”

She feels herself start to smile without actually planning to. “You’re really fucking happy now, huh?”

Mickey’s face goes blank with surprise before that bashful twist to his mouth comes back and he averts his gaze, shrugging once. “I guess.”

“Oh, you guess!” she scoffs, kicking him again. “Jesus Christ, Ian’s dick can’t be that great.”

Mickey smirks then. “Jealous you never got to find out for yourself?”

“Shut up, asshole,” she huffs, laughing in spite of herself. “I’m being serious.”

Mickey makes an incredulous noise and Mandy clears her throat, forcing herself to be sincere. “I mean it, Mick,” she says and his expression smooths out at the earnestness in her voice. “You two really figured shit out.”

Mickey doesn’t say anything for a moment before he breathes out a soft laugh. “I mean it was about fuckin’ time.”

Mandy grins. “No arguments there.”

Mickey looks like he’s about to say more when Ian’s footsteps suddenly sound on the staircase again. “What are you two talking about?” he asks, jogging down the last few steps.

“Just about how Mandy’s still jealous you had sex with me and not her,” Mickey says casually and Mandy lets out a choked noise, reaching over and punching Mickey’s arm as hard as she can.

Ian’s laughing as he comes to stand behind Mickey, hands settling on Mickey’s shoulders like they belong there and Mickey looks from him to Mandy with a shit-eating grin.

“Don’t worry, Mands,” Ian says. “You got to call me your boyfriend first.”

“Ey!” Mickey calls out, affronted, and Ian grins down at him, eyebrows raised in an, Am I wrong? look.

And Mandy’s just- she’s relieved, more than anything. Because they fucking deserve this – all three of them do. They deserve to be able joke about the good shit in their past in the safety of a present that isn’t threatening to take away their future. They deserve some fucking peace of mind.

And as she watches Ian lean down to kiss the top of Mickey’s head before he returns to his seat at the table she thinks it’s probably time to rethink her stance on whether or not Mickey and Ian are going to make it.

How I feel about this character - 'our baby boy' yeah that's pretty much it. that's all. thanks for coming to the show. no but fr, as we have been discussing especially as of late: he is the human embodiment of sunshine, he's glowing and warmth and i want to give him a hug. he's a sweetheart and stubborn and independent and trying his best. i'm glad he finally has someone looking out for him and taking care of him because lord knows homeboy was overlooked far too often. ian pretty boy/ play what cool/ why would you say that gallagher my beloved.

All the people I ship romantically with this character - mickey, mick, mikhailo, his husband, his black-haired cell-mate with the funky yellow jumper, the greasy teenager that used to steal pringles and snickers bars from his place of employment, the dude who broke out of prison and surprised him by literally kidnapping him, mandy milkovich's favorite brother, in another universe maybe that one youtuber that mainly does horror streams and is a little bit fruity on the down low

My non-romantic OTP for this character - all the family dynamics are obviously great - big brother trust with lip, little brother roughhousing with carl and care for liam, being fiona's sweetface & little shit, blunt honesty with debbie, and i love kev but between the two of them there is zero braincells and that's just simply unacceptable. honestly mickey and mandy bffls <3

My unpopular opinion about this character - i didn't hate the gay jesus storyline. like i feel like it's a totally realistic thing to get sucked into given the circumstances but tbh i don't really remember that much of it because i binged the show in like two weeks a year ago and have only rewatched early seasons and season 11 oops

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon - maybe a bit more of a conclusion with him x svetlana and yevgeny?? like, correct me if i'm wrong, but he just like doesn't talk about what happened with them at all and that was like a pretty prominent feature of his life, even if he wasn't stable at that time. maybe it feels like a fever dream or something. but he did love that kid, that was real. and it's gotta come up when he talks about wanting his own kids because he wants to be a dad, ya know? also maybe just like more therapy in general??? and ian becoming more accepting of it??? because tbh ian accepting that he has to take meds for mental illness encouraged me to do so as well. omg ALSO a future where ian is helping people medically because he's good at that shit

my thoughts on sandy milkovich:

(buckle up because i have a lot to say, as always)

so, for starters, one thing that i’m not incredibly fond of is how her character isn’t really original. like, it is, but it isn’t. her name is sandy, for christ’s sake- which is literally one letter away from mandy, also not to mention the fact that she was practically raised as mickey’s sister. and in many way’s she’s like a female version of mickey, i’ll explain why:

obviously one way she’s like mickey is that she dated a gallagher, but i think that the way she acts in the relationship is very much like how mickey acts in gallavich. well…acted. more seasons 1-5 gallavich.

she’s a bit less… idk, fearful than mickey was? i mean, it’s understandable why mickey was so fearful- have you seen terry? did you watch 3x666? or 4x11? i would’ve been fearful if i were him, too. we don’t know much about how sandy was raised, but she probably wasn’t raised well. again, she seemingly was raised as mickey’s sister rather than his cousin (he does have a brother who is also his cousin, to be fair, but that’s not what i mean) but sandy’s parents may not have been as threatening or terrifying as terry was. terry does seem to be the most well-known milkovich. everybody knows terry. maybe sandy’s parents were homophobic in a way where they looked down on queer people, but didn’t literally murder them. you can see how much more open she is with the whole “he’s gay, terry. i’m gay. people are gay.”

but sandy can be mean. and so can mickey. i love them both to death but sandy’s fight with debbie in season 11 really reminded me of gallavich in seasons 2/3. specifically “you’re nothing but a warm mouth to me” and “you love me; and you’re gay” she wins the fight by using something to hurt debbie, and it works.

and what was the fight all about? sandy leaving her husband, who she was with as a teenager but felt no love for him whatsoever, and also leaving her kid. sound familiar? ian never held yevgeny and svetlana against mickey, but it’s similar.

and when they break up on the front porch all i, and many other gallavich fans, could think of was “5x12!!!!”

also she was a drug dealer and in juvie and it was implied that she was in prison. this isn’t exclusive to mickey, the only milkovich i can think of (other than yevgeny) who hasn’t been incarcerated is mandy, but we don’t know for sure that she hasn’t been to juvie before. she’s certainly done things that could land her in prison for a very long time.

and i feel like with the same amount of time and development sandy can be as great as her cousin is, because mickey changed A LOT over the seasons which made him even more lovable.

but sandy’s ending was pathetic and i hate the writers for it. it was unnecessary and damaged debbie’s character when she didn’t need it because sandy left literally 4 EPISODES BEFORE THE SERIES FINALE. the only thing that sandy leaving added was the evidence that debbie would stick with franny no matter what, but fuck that, it was too late in the show for most people (not me ofc) to give a shit about that. people overlooked that a lot.

i feel like sandy helped out debbie’s character a lot, while simultaneously fucking her up even more. but i loved sandy for most of her run on the show, i just wish that they had done more- or less. idk. they made her character more complicated than she needed to be, and it’s hard to put my feelings about her into words because they didn’t give us enough to work on.

i think that her relationship with royal was bad, and i think that he was probably a creep who impregnated her, and i bet that he knew she was a lesbian after they got married and things probably got messy. the way that royal described sandy’s choices to prince was good, though. i respected that.

anyway, if they kept making shameless seasons (which they wont) i would love a sandy redemption. possibly like the returns of mickey, jimmysteve, or kelly.

im not reading this over before i post it so if it doesn’t make sense then oh well

Mikhailo Aleksander Milkovich is too good for this world, and I fucking miss him.

He hasn’t had a great life. He grew up in a home where no love had a chance to exist, yet he found affection within himself to care for his sister, Mandy, and Ian when he got into some trouble.

He got shot because of Ian, got locked up because of a pedophile, and his mom probably died in the midst of all this due to off screen circumstances.

What was on screen was how vividly terrified he was of his father, Terry, and how it was preventing him from giving in to Ian’s pressure to be more.

Then he got raped by proxy, because he wanted to be happy, just for one night.

Mickey was in the wrong for beating up Ian directly after the incident, and suffered weeks of consequences for his actions when Ian enlisted in the army directly after. He suffered through it all, was told to marry the same hooker that was involved in the rape because he’d impregnated her.

He did. Ian came back, doped up on crack and something else, and Mickey decided that he was done sitting around, thinking about what he did wrong to Ian, and made a resolve to make it up to him, instead.

Mickey carried Ian to his house, cared for him, loved him. Got him out of his crack habit for a little while. He gave in to multiple mind games that Ian played on him when he tried to win him back (“Suck my dick, whenever I want” -Ian)

Mickey came out for Ian in front of his own father (who raped him by proxy and forced him to marry that hooker) and the entire bar on the South Side of Chicago, got involved in a tumultuous brawl.

Ian didn’t get out of bed the next day. Mickey worries, calls Ian’s family. Learns that Ian might have bipolar disorder.

He tries his best to take care of Ian by himself. It doesn’t work out when Ian gets manic, cheats on Mickey multiple times, and shoots a bareback porno.

Also, Mickey’s sister Mandy is in an abusive relationship, Svetlana is forcing him to take care of the baby who was a result of the incident, and has to deal with getting some money for all four of them to survive under one roof.

When Mickey starts to understand that Ian needs to get to a hospital, he lets Ian know, her Ian to Promise him that he’ll go, especially after cheating on Mickey, and then Ian runs off with Mickey’s baby, Yevgeny.

Mickey worries and texts and calls. When Ian gets arrested, Mickey introduces himself as Ian’s partner, lover, family, and boyfriend.

He visits Ian at the psych ward several times, even though it’s extremely difficult for him to see Ian suffering like this.

Though Mickey gets overwhelmed after a while, and stays away, he comes back to Ian because he knows Ian needs him.

They go to the baseball field/dugouts. Ian gets pissed that Mickey is trying to take care of him, calls him a f*ggot and tells him to suck his dick harder the next time it’s limp from all the mess. Then he punches him in the face and calls him a pussy, and goads Mickey into a fight. Then, bloody and bruised as they are, they kiss, plan for a date.

Ian gets taken away by the MPs because he confided in his bitch ass cousin Sammi about going AWOL on the army and enlisting as his brother. Mickey fights valiantly through it all, gets the idea to off Sammi (because that’s the only thing he really know how to do. He is Terry’s son).

Ian gets released to his unmedicated, bipolar mother who convinces him that his family and Mickey is against him, and takes him to her current home with a teenage meth dealer. Mickey calls and texts and waits and waits. I think it’s necessary to say that Mickey might’ve cheated on Ian at some point during his waiting around, but I believe it’s because he already apprehended....

...the breakup, in which Ian claims that Mickey is trying to fix him, that Mickey sees him as broken, questions Mickey’s love. Sammi shows up from the dead with a gun, and chases Mickey with it while Ian looks on impassively. Mickey runs for his life, survives, but gets arrested.

In his despair of being charged for attempted murder, Mickey inks Ian’s name on his chest and begs Svetlana, his only visitor, to bring Ian to him. He won’t see her otherwise.

Svetlana has to Pay Ian $50 to visit Mickey, and barely acknowledges him. When Mickey puts his heart on his sleeve, and asks if Ian will wait for him, Ian neither confirms nor gives any closure. He doesn’t reinforce the breakup. He walks away having given Mickey false hope, even though it’s quite apparent that when Mickey asks Ian to lie to him, he does. “Yeah, man, I’ll wait.”

Ian tarnished the baseball field memory by meeting Caleb, a fireman, and agreeing to a date just mere weeks after he saw Mickey.

Ian uses Mickey at every opportunity as a shutting oppertunity, insinuating that he’s an abusive prick, and making Caleb believe he’s a victim of domestic violence.

Ian gets together with Trevor soon after he finds out Caleb is cheating, a trans character that is involved with helping the homeless youth of South Side.

Ian NEVER visits Mickey in prison, having not provided him any closure, a smidge of hope. So when Mickey breaks out of prison, he goes to Ian first. He risks a second night in Chicago to allow Ian time to make a decision.

Mickey gives Ian MULTIPLE chances to say goodbye, first under the bleachers, then on the docks, and finally, before he’s about to leave.

Ian goes with him.

Mickey spends the trip telling Ian about how much he thought of Ian in the joint. How much he pined away in the can, never knowing of how scornfully he was talked about. Again, Ian getting away with shit without an inch of remorse. There is no apology during the entire trip.

Under the bridge, Mickey demands to know why Ian never visited him. Ian replies that it was hard seeing him through that glass. When Mickey asks if Ian ever thought about him, Ian replies with, “A lot.”

Next day, at the border, at the last minute, having given so much hope to a broken Mickey, a completely alone Mickey with neither Mandy nor Iggy or any friends to ever back him up, a fugitive on the run with too much love to give, a man who’s been first screwed over and beaten and pistol whipped by his father to getting manipulated by his wife to Ian letting him rot in prison, THAT Mickey, gets told by Ian that Ian can’t follow through.

“I can’t.” “You CAN.” “This isn’t me anymore, I’m sorry.” “I love you.”

Ian says that he loves Mickey, whose heart is already fracturing and he’s dying inside knowing that he has NO ONE. Not a single soul that cares for him. Ian says that he loves Mickey, but not enough to give up anything for him. Not enough for anything. Ian has no reason other than himself to go back, because he doesn’t even know that his mother, Monica, died during his absence.

And Ian doesn’t choose Mickey. He gives Mickey his life savings (a last act of whatever love he has left), which feels strangely like a terrible, terrible payoff, makes to attempt to find a way to contact him, and watched him cross the border as a woman.

Ian knows this is the last time he’ll ever see Mickey.

But it isn’t, because Mickey comes crawling back to Ian, IN PRISON, after Ian blows up a van later down the line.

Mickey doesn’t deserve this. I fucking BET that they won’t give him the fucking apologies he deserves from Ian.

Ian left him 4 times. And 3/4 times, Mickey came back to take care of Ian. The one time he came back for himself, Ian abandoned him.

Well, fuck that.
