Another doodle we did recently: This 1947 Gibson L-7 had a few clean, but not the most visually alluring, patched holes for various controls on top, having been electrified in its lifetime. Retaining the original Blonde nitro finish and heavy bubble maple figuring on the back/sides, we had @riggioguitars shoot an era-correct burst on just the top, masking the previous repairs. The coming together of Ted McCarty & Les Paul in the late 1940’s after an initial rejection of Les Paul’s “The Log” a journey of inovation was embarked upon that would change the face of popular music forever.

The Gibson Les Paul has become an icon...a symbol of rebellion. You can’t think of Slash, Jimmy Page, Peter Green and so many others without thinking of a Gibson Les Paul. It’s as much of an extension of them as they it.

After 66 years it is still at the fore front of popular music...it is still ‘the’ guitar that so many players aspire to have in their arsenal. Found in bedrooms and venues around the world...will there ever be a day that a Gibson Les Paul won’t be used as a way to entertain the masses?

Depois de deixar a Wurlitzer Company em 1948, ele atuou como presidente da Gibson durante sua era de ouro (1950-1966) e é creditado com o desenvolvimento de coisas como a ponte Tune-o-Matic, o captador humbucker e a Bigsby.
