“I wasn’t expecting to see you here early.”
“Well, expect the unexpected.”
“Don’t turn the motto back at me. I’m sick of hearing it so many damn times.”
“What? You and I both know that it’s true. You’re here early too, so, technically you don’t get to say anything.”
Jeongin straightened his bow tie, then patted down the sides of his perfectly ironed tux with not a crinkle to be found. Knowing him, it was a miracle that he hadn’t messed it up in some form yet. He promptly took out his pocket square to clean off his glasses.
“You’re looking nice. Seems like they don’t mind spending money now on you these days.” He blew off the flecks of dust on his lenses.
“They know that they get their return on their investment. And thank you.”
You smoothed down the sides of your dusty pink dress that nearly went all the way down to your ankles. Had you any other choice, it would’ve been something different, but, dresses were really good at hiding your thigh holster compared to the slacks you usually favored. You didn’t mind the times that you would have to put on a pretty dress, it somewhat reminded you that there was normal life outside of your job. Not to mention, they had started sending you jewelry as well. You always had liked the look of a diamond necklace.
“You do your research for tonight?”
Jeongin nodded, then took from his pocket his phone to read over the details.
“I’ve done a background check on everyone attending, we shouldn’t have any issues. It’s already a low risk event anyway. Charity is never something to get too worked up over, but, you never know with the detail that some of these people come with...who they might be tied to...”
“--The only people we can trust is ourselves.” You nodded with arms crossed.
“Expect the unexpected, I know.” He slid his phone back into his inside suit pocket to adjust his cufflinks.
“--Nervous?” You took note of his fidgeting actions.
“Nervous? No. I’ve been through this before. You know that.”
You flicked your partner right on his forehead strung with his white hair. You had really wished that he had picked a less conspicuous color, but he had strings to pull that you didn’t.
Jeongin cleared his throat, “You do your once over?”
“Do you even need to ask? I did it hours ago and when we arrived. You know that I’ve done this before too.”
“I know. I know.”
Jeongin looked out at the vast circular atrium that made up the center of the hotel. Several stories down under the glass rooftop, you could hear the faint sprinkling of the intricate fountain which smelled of copper. A bit further down, you could see the tips of the tree branches from the indoor landscaping. Across the way, a door slammed with residents tucking in their ties. The two men you had recognized from the roster: a simple thing which made you feel at ease. Your young partner must’ve started to have an effect on you. A sense of unease seemed to quell in your neck. You always listened to your hunches.
“W-what do you think he thinks of us?” Jeongin broke the silence.
“Well,” From inside the room you had waited outside, you could hear his distant murmuring, so you lowered your tone. “I think that he has yet to trust us. It’s only been a few weeks. He doesn’t seem like the kind to give himself up easy. That, and I’m sure his resentment of his father must have some influence.”
“You think he hates us?”
“I think he hates his father for hiring us. I mean, wouldn’t you? His old security detail, he had them for years.”
“I guess so. But, we’re not like his old detail.”
“No. We’re not. I don’t think he gets that yet. I think he sees us as one more way his father has a hold on him.”
“It’s not like he can do much else about it when his dad’s a kin--”
“--No, no, thank you, really, it’s lovely. Some of your best work. Thank you.”
Chan swung open the door to his room, stopping Jeongin right in his sentence.
“Ah. You’re here already. That’s...punctual.”
As dazzling and showy as ever, Chan looking nothing short of a magazine model. For a prince, he had certain...appearances that he had to maintain. Today, it was a velvety and maroon suit jacket with a white button up. On the collar, two matching brooches had been perfectly placed, and they were silver like moonlight in the shape of English ivy and adorned with diamonds. On his lapel, he wore the royal insignia of the lion and the wolf. Behind him, you could see his slew of stylists cleaning up their makeup kits and obscene assortment of designer dress shoes for him to pick from. You had thought before that he even smelled like royalty: stuffy white roses with a hint of priceless cognac.
Jeongin bowed his head respectfully. “Everything has been prepared for tonight. The rest of your guards are surrounding the building, and I’ll be corresponding with them as needed, your Highness.” He tapped at his earpiece.
Chan drew his attention over to you, giving you a rather lusty glare. Over the past couple weeks, you had gotten used to it. He was a prince to every extent of the word. If there was anything that he had wanted, he simply had to ask. It drove him insane that all he could do was merely look at you. You had  wondered if he harbored anything else for you besides the way that he would devour the curves of your shoulders and hips.
“Fox. Bee. You look nice tonight. I like seeing you dressed up. Makes me feel less out of place.”
You couldn’t help but let out a little sound of discontentment over his rather affectionate nickname for you. You and your partner had been introduced to him as F and B. Quickly he had figured out Jeongin’s codename as Fox, considering that he had done a poor job picking out one that wasn’t related to him at all. Anyone could tell that boy was fox-like, and he also just wasn’t that creative when it came to picking out a name for himself. B, or Bee as he had decided, was your name; as in bumblebee. After learning about Fox, he figured that there was an animal theme going, so Bee seemed to fit best in his oponion.
You tested his glare with your best, “Thank you, your Highness.”
Jeongin gulped. “Your assistant should be waiting downstairs with your itinerary. She told me that you should meet her first off.”
“You work too hard F. Have some fun tonight, hm? But don’t...drink too much. You’re responsible for my life remember?” Chan clapped his bodyguard on the back.
Your partner nervously laughed and adjusted his glasses once more: his preferred tic.
“And Bee?” Chan rose a brow to lean into close and whisper. “Stay close, alright?”
“Of course, your Highness.”
Chan let out a little scoff after getting one more proper look at your frame. “Damn. You really are stunning. Just a little too dangerous for me though.”
You rolled your eyes, dishing him outa, “Whatever you say, your Highness.”
Jeongin threw you and annoyed glare before tracing after Chan as he sauntered down the hall to the glass elevator.
“Bee? You coming? Or do you have something better to do?” Chan’s voice called down the hall with an echo and a little teasing gesture of his hand.
━━━━━━━━━▲━━━━━━━━━
It had been seven years since you had chosen this line of work, and each time that you had to go to one of these things, you hated them more and more. Not because they were hard to control--they were easy--but you just hated how many superficial and self-absorbed people that they could fit into one room.
The air was filled with the scent of champagne bubbles and too much Chanel No. 5. From corner to corner of the room, and even next to the ice sculpture of the lion and the wolf crest, silk, satin; velvet and the best cotton could be found. Long gloves covered the arms of ladies with wrinkling skin, and tweed vests held in the guts of men who indulged in their food just as much as their mistresses. All this effort just to appear as if they had given one care about the philanthropic efforts of the royalty.
Several neatly dressed waiters passed you with golden platters of hors d'oeuvres made of ingredients so expensive, they would’ve cost the same amount as the generous donations made by the attendees. If you could’ve, you would’ve scooped up as many of them as you could, just to eat all of their copious amounts of money yourself, but, there was somewhere a rule that you had to keep your hand to yourself when you were on duty. The best that you had to look forward too was take-out to eat at 3 in the morning with Jeongin later.
Buzzing chatter filled your earpiece while each of the additional guards gave their hourly report.
“Damn. It’s fucking colder out here than I thought. It’s fucking summer.” One of them joked to the tune of the other guards laughter.
“Stay focused.” Jeongin scolded over the line. “Don’t leave your posts until your shifts change.”
While he was a timid man, Jeongin was not one to mess around. Son of the director, he knew that he had big shoes to fill. After pleading for years for her to admit him into the academy, she had agreed. Everyone knew the reason why she didn’t want him in this line of work. Too many dead. Too many missing. In some ways, he was also yours to look after.
You trailed after Chan who was busy talking to his assistant and his publicist. While he nodded at their words, you knew that he must’ve been barely listening. Chan never really was one for formality, but much rather enjoyed simplicity and pleasure. Jeongin and you had somewhat of a bet going: out of all the guests, you had liked to bet which one he would take with him to his bedroom. Since you had all the profiles of the guests, you liked to bet a little money on which one it would be.
Jeongin had guessed it to be the heiress and daughter of a tycoon who had made a multi-million won donation in the name of his company. It was ironic; his very company was a big-scale pollutor who liked to make nice with the crown. She was conventionally very pretty: long legs, a thin frame, she was educated and looked as if she could hold somewhat of a conversation...not like that mattered to him.
You had predicted it to be the foreign CEO who had just started business dealings with the crown. While she might’ve looked a bit stuck-up and prim, she was intimidating, and a challenge. Chan loved challenges. Chan also had a pension for pretty boys with a bit too much money on their hands--usually inherited--and with nothing much else to do other than dote on him. There were plenty of those attending the gala tonight.
Chan snaked through the crowd, bowing his head at all of the Good evening, your Highnesses and the It’s a pleasure to meet you, your Highnesses. Every few moments or so he would take a bite from a golden plate and then pop it into his mouth. The whole night long, he would hold his glass with him and it would get refilled for him without him even needing to ask. You sometimes liked to pretend that in some places, they must’ve assigned someone to watch him from afar to make sure that he would never need anything before it was given to him. It wouldn’t have surprised you.
“Having fun Bee?” Chan languidly rolled his head back, swirling his glass.
“As much fun as you are.” You quipped.
“Anything that I should be concerned about?”
“Nothing of concern.” You stated matter-of-factly. Had you matched his flirting tone, you knew that you wouldn’t hear the end of it for the rest of the night. “Fox. Report?”
“Nothing that I can see. No one has been tagging you.” Jeongin had staked himself up on the upper balcony of the banquet hall room, and had been watching for as long as you had been following after the prince. “You sensing anything strange?” His voice tickled in your in-ear.
“Just a bunch of the normal crowd.” You kept your tone down low. “He’s rubbing noses with the usual. You’ve seen too?”
He chuckled. “Yeah. I know what you mean.”
You followed Chan to his seat nearest the front of the room which had been fashioned into a stage with a clear glass podium in the center. Right in front there was one more crest decorating it. Chan had ensured it to be so: he had wanted everyone to know that this was all for his charity.
“It seems like our bets aren’t working out. He hasn’t talked to either of the...suspects.” Your partner changed his choice of words knowing that the other guards were listening.
From the opposite side of the room both the heiress and the CEO stood with thin glasses of wine in their lithe hands. Chan had in fact walked right past them, and didn’t even notice.
“Tonight is going to be a long night.” Jeongin sighed over the line.
You politely pushed past attendees with a raised hand and a sweet smile. You had found that when you smiled, you had appeared less intimidating.
“Oh wait...what’s this?”
“What?” You whipped your head around after Jeongin’s interjection. “What? Do you see something? What’s the call?”
“Relax! It just looks like he’s approaching someone he wants to talk to. I think both of us are about to be proven wrong.”
“Ah, shit.” You sighed. “Don’t put me on edge like that.”
“I’m only trying to entertain myself.”
“Name. Who is it? You’ve got the roster.”
You partner was quiet for a minute, and you watched from a distance as Chan approached the man leaned over a martini seated at one of the perfectly decorated tables.
“Uh, I think that he’s Lee Minho. Some kind of royalty from somewhere else. Pretty low ranking from the looks of it. I think that he made a donation himself...and it’s...damn, larger than you would expect.”
“Should we be concerned?”
“No. Seems harmless.”
“Thank you for coming,” You made out the words that Chan had mouthed. He drew a chair next to the unknown man.
From what you could tell, Lee Minho was handsome to the full extent of the word: nearly all of his physical features were exemplary and his suit appeared to have been fitted to perfect for him; likely one of a kind. He too wore an insignia on his lapel, but it was one that you hadn’t recognized before. He had immaculately styled hair that had some kind of rebellious and boyish charm to it. The man had a kind of mystery about him too: you had been able to pride yourself in being able to read people, and it had saved your life on more than one occasion. But with him, there was something that you couldn’t place.
“Do they know eachother?” You asked Jeongin.
“Not that I know of. School friend maybe? Seems like all the royals send their kids to the same schools.”
“Hm. That would make sense.”
“Enjoying yourself?” Chan said.
Lee Minho nodded, and rose his glass to clink it with the prince’s.
“Do we think that he’s our...suspect?”
The stranger dipped his head into his hand as he listened to Chan speak. A flirty gesture that you had seen a hundred times or more. Still, the way that he inspected Chan, it wasn’t adoring. Or at least, you didn’t think that it was.
“No. I don’t think so.”
“What the hell are you yapping about?” One of the other guards snapped over the line.
“Um, classified stuff.” Jeongin quickly explained. “Above your paygrade. Don’t worry about it.”
“Fox. Watch out for him tonight.” You snuck over to a corner of the room where you could watch the two of them more discreetly.
“Affirmative....” Your partner paused. “Babydoll.”
“Pffff--Babydoll??” The same guard stifled his laughter. “You call her Babydoll, Fox? Damn, you all must be closer than I thought. Didn’t know that I was missing out on some of the action--”
“--Ever heard of a codename, Three?”
“Babydoll’s her codename.”
A grin crept over your lips. “Expect the unexpected.”
You had almost gotten distracted enough to miss how Lee Minho had leaned over to whisper something into the prince’s ear. After he had done so, Chan laughed out a little, then reached his arm around the other man’s chair comfortably.
“They’re...cozy.” You updated your partner.
“I’m trying to cross-check where he might know him from.”
Chan’s assistant and publicist finally slipped away with giddy little smiles. In many ways, you were jealous of them. They could leave whenever the wanted, eat what they wanted...
Jeongin scoffed. “Well, turns out...nothing. I can’t find anything.”
“Nothing?”
“Negative. I’m not seeing any crossover.”
“So they really are strangers?”
Your partner sighed. “Looks like neither of us are cashing ou--I mean--finding the suspect.”
Under your breath, you wondered aloud, “Who are you...Lee Minho?”
━━━━━━━━━▲━━━━━━━━━
The night drew on longer with the rest of the formalities: the formal dinner, followed by several speeches from important people while dessert was being served. It all led up to the final act: His Royal Highness, Prince Chan’s speech. On several neat notecards marked with the crest, he held them in front of him while he ate his last bits of Mont Blanc Chocolate Pavlova. Even the name of the sweet itself sounded pretentious. Granted, it smelled delicious--as many expensive things did.
You stifled a yawn from your little set up on the edge of the room. At least you should’ve been able to sit, but it turns out that sitting is also against the rules in this line of work. A couple other security and bodyguards had joined you at the edge: some of their heads nodded with sleep, and the others looked as if they had taken one too many energy shots. Luckily, your stamina had been well crafted.
A fancily dressed MC made his way up to the podium and the room filled with applause after the last speaker had said all of their correct mandatory words.
“It is my honor to introduce to the stage, our wonderful head benefactor of this organization, His Royal Highness, Prince Chan of the Crown.
Applause tenfold of before erupted through the whole room and it wasn’t even an afterthought for the every attendee to stand up from their seats in an ovation. It was a force of habit for you, but you found yourself clapping as well.
Chan rose with grace, and re-buttoned his jacket with finesse. A blinding spotlight found him and it made the diamonds adorning his beck wink brilliantly. Even more blinding was his pearl white, and perfectly trained smile accompanied by his wave.
Thank you. Thank you. He mouthed.
“It’s like he’s a frickin’ movie star.” Jeongin groaned.
“Might as well be with the way that they treat him. You know deep down they’re all just terrified.”
Chan made his way up to the stage in all of his regality, and the applause didn’t stop until he cleared his throat. A collective groaning of a couple hundred chairs squeaked when everyone sat back down.
“Thank you everyone, really. I wanted to thank you all for your generous support in your donations to this organization, as well as your association with the crown. I’m sure that all the beneficiaries of your donations are beyond thankful compared to me. Without you, this would not be possible.” Chan spoke with grandiose gestures, as usual, but this time, he had found you on the side of the room. “Listen, aside from being a prince, I’m also just a person. A person who knows what it means to struggle, to--”
“--I can’t listen to this anymore.” You whispered into the quiet room, and to your partner.
“Just a few more hours.” He droned. “I almost wish that something would happen so that we don’t have to sit though much else of this.”
“Be careful what you wish for.”
In the corner of your eye, Lee Minho shifted in his seat, but still kept his undivided attention to the stage. You figured he must’ve been just like the rest of them: enamored by the flashiness of the crown--and Chan. He had a way of putting a spell on people: it was the kind of spell that a prince of deception had crafted after years of being kept under lock and key.
“--Anyway, what I’m trying to say, royal or fanciful we all might be, in the simplest way, we’re all just people, therefore this is what connects us all. Thank you.”
Chan was gifted yet another standing ovation that was somehow even more thunderous than before.
“Yeah right.” You scoffed. “People born into money. There’s a difference.”
Chan gave his last waves, then a clamor echoed from the back of the room. At first, it had just sounded like the same raucous laughter you had heard all night, but then it shifted to something different. The sound of laugher turned into shouting, then screams: high pitched and piercing. You had seconds to respond, head whipping around the room to catch sight of the confused prince. In your in-ears, the the sound of gunshots echoed with rapid-fire speed. Machine guns. Shouting commands barked in your ear, and muddled with Jeongin’s string of demands and questions.
“WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON OUT THERE? REPORT! REPORT!”
Your heart instantly started beating into hyperdrive, and your legs sprinted as fast has physically possible
“THEY’VE GOT GUNS!” A shrill and cracked voice of an older woman wailed from the back of the room.
Immediately after she had said so, shots fired into the darkened room with sparks, and the metallic sound of bullets hitting the marbled ground followed.
Chan looked around in his panic for you, petrified on the stage. You slung your gun out from your thigh holster and latched onto him with all of your might.
“TH-THEY JUST CAME OUT OF NOWHERE IN THESE VANS. THEY’RE ARMOURED, WE CAN’T--”
“Get the fuck down there and secure the exists!” Jeongin growled into his mic. “B--is the prince secure??”
“Secure!” You yelled back. Using your body as a barrier, you led the cowering prince through the mass hysteria of the crowd.
“Oh fuck. Oh fuck. Shit.” Chan shook under your iron grip.
More shots fired into the room and bodies parted like the sea and fell over each other.
From the balcony, you had caught Jeongin aiming his own gun at the chaos below.
“I’ll cover you! Fuck! There’s so many of them! Get him to the car out back--Three, Six, meet B out there! Three!? Six!? Report!”
“Three and Six are down F!” One of the guards panted. “I can provide cover out back!!”
“Who’s speaking??” Jeongin bellowed, then aimed from above at one of the intruders. Your only focus was on weaving you and Chan out of there, but you had seen one of them in a blur. Each of the men with guns wore dark grey suits with black ties and leather gloves. Each of them wore their own crest: and it was all red.
“Bee?? Bee???” Chan shouted out for you, and jumped every time the crack of a shot echoed in the ballroom.
“I’ve got you, your Highness. We’ll be out soon. Keep your head down and listen to me.” Your arm held to him tightly, and you soon found the exit nearest. There was no telling if there would be more of them outside, but you loaded your gun quickly just in case, and pointed it out.
“Jeongin, get your ass down here!”
“Jeongin? Who the fuck is that??” Chan ducked down to hide himself behind your frame.
His name had slipped on your tongue, but that hardly mattered.
“I’ll be down in a second!!!”
“Don’t fucking waste time up there when I need you down here!!”
“Two! Two Reporting!!” A man suddenly yelled in your in-ear. “I’ve made it out back and I’ve secured the exit. The car is safe!!”
“FOX! Now!”
Your partner heaved, “I’m coming, I’m coming!!”
You kicked open the exit door, gun’s still blazing, however one one else could be found on the other side.
“Thank God,” You sighed.
“Oh shit, I’m gonna be sick.” Chan had turned paler than white, then stumbled in your arms.
“Hey, HEY!” You held him upright. “It’s gonna be alright. I’ve got you. You’re safe. You need to trust me. Your life is in my hands and I’m not giving it up easy, got it?”
“O-okay.” He stammered, then attempted to straighten himself.
“The Prince is outside, repeat, The Prince is outside. Two, are you in position?”
“Yes. Yes, I am.”
Other than the fact that you had just escaped absolute peril, the evening was unbearably pleasant. Crickets chirped in the summer evening, and the humidity of the night smelled gorgeously of the lake that was near-by as well as the vast array of flowers that had been purposefully landscaped around the hotel. Chan’s uneven steps scraped at the gravel walkway.
Since you had canvassed the whole building well, you had known exactly where the getaway car was, but you were still careful.
“Bee. Bee!” Chan blabbered. “Have-have I told you yet that I-I’m in love with you?”
“No, you haven’t Your Highness.”
“I fucking am. If I die tonight, I want you to know that I am ridiculously in love with you, and fuck, I wanna--”
“--I’m sorry, Your Highness, respectfully, but now is not the time for this and you are not dying on my watch.”
Somewhere off in the distance, frogs croaked, and the splashing of fish in the lake plopped at the surface waters. You turned a corner to finally see Two waiting his his gun raised. He was a bit of a shorter and scrawnier man, but something about him told you that where he lacked in strength, he must’ve made up for in agility.
“I’m out! I’m out!” Your partner gasped, and over the in-ear you could hear his running footsteps. “I’m almost there! I’ll be there in a second!”
“Your Highness,” Two bowed and opened the car door. “It’s a pleasure to finally meet you. You can call me Two or J. Either you prefer.”
Jeongin came bounding around the corner with heaving breaths and his clothes askew. His glasses which just barely held onto his face had a crack on them and his knuckles were covered in blood.
“Let’s go.” The younger man prompted.
“In the car you go, Your Highness.” You motioned for him to do so.
Chan whimpered like a toddler.
You shoved his body in, “Stop that. Get in the car.”
“I’m in love with you Bee!” He yelled out, “I’M FUCKING IN LOVE WITH YOU BEE!”
Jeongin slammed the door in his face with a bit of a chuckle.
“He’s delirious.”
“Mm.” your partner smiled. “Sure.”

NordVPN VPN Service - Review, Test-drive and Features breakdown
Tumblr media
We couldn't complete our VPN review & test-drive series without talking about NordVPN, one of the most renowned VPN services in 2019: from PCMag to TechRadar, from VPNMentor to CompariTech, everyone seems to love NordVPN speed, performance and reliability. Are the rumors really true? We tried our best to find it out within this review and test-drive. In the unlikely case you don't know what a VPN as-a-service actually is we strongly suggest to check out this post before going further: once done, come back here to read the review to its full extent.
Internet without borders
Advanced security, Internet freedom, Complete privacy: this is the payoff of the NordVPN website, and it fits well with the company spirit. NordVPN was born in 2012 when four childhood friends came together to build technology that could liberate the internet. Spending a lot of time in different parts of the world they saw internet censorship, content control and intrusive government surveillance growing faster than ever before. The feeling that the internet was losing its main purpose led to a search of possible solutions on how to overcome all the restrictions. After setting up the first VPN server and sharing the prototype among their friends, the creators started receiving extremely positive feedback and were encouraged to continue their work. That’s how NordVPN was born, now serving more than 12 million people worldwide. The NordVPN name was inspired by Nordic ideals of confidence, trust, and innovation: it reflects how we value our customer freedom of choice, how we strive to be innovative with our technology and the way we work. Over the years, NordVPN became a trusted online security solution, used by over 12 million internet users worldwide. Meanwhile, NordVPN became recognized by the most influential tech sites and IT security specialists. It is now one of the most trusted privacy and security service provider in the world, known for the strongly held values and well thought-out features. Ethical purposes Before  starting with the technicalities, we would like to briefly review the NordVPN manifesto which can be found on their website. We, at NordVPN, strive to make Tim Berners-Lee’s vision of a truly open internet a reality. Mr. Berners-Lee imagined the internet as a very different place when he implemented the first successful HTML communication in 1989. It was to be a safe space, free from censorship and surveillance. Unfortunately, as headlines around the world demonstrate daily, this is hardly the case these days.   At NordVPN, our team of mathematicians and technologists wake up every morning with one core goal – to keep the internet as free as possible. This is our passion and why we come to work every day. We strive to provide absolutely uncompromised safety and privacy on the Web. We make sure no one sees what you do online because they shouldn’t. Nor should we, for that matter.   For this reason we do not keep logs. If someone asks us about you, we have nothing to share. We are free internet enthusiasts who believe in a common secure future online. We support fighters for human rights, journalists, volunteers in conflict zones, information activists or anyone who believes in the power of the open Web as Mr. Berners-Lee imagined. In the spirit of transparency, we’ll do everything we can to keep you updated about all aspects of our service, from server status upgrades to occasional glitches. We aim to create a lasting relationship of mutual trust with you, the customers who share our deeply held values. Additional ethical contents can be found on their social responsibility page, where they talk about freedom of speech, digital education & awareness, social reports, and so on: definitely a commendable display of good efforts... However, it's about time to bring the numbers and the stats in.
Data Security
NordVPN was the first VPN service to describe their data protection features as military-grade encryption... which might sound a bit exxagerated, yet it's not that far from the actual truth. As a matter of fact, NordVPN protects their users data using AES, an encryption standard used and approved worldwide by governments, cybersecurity experts, and cryptography enthusiasts: more specifically, NordVPN makes use of AES with 256-bit keys, which is recommended by the NSA for securing classified information. The number 256 refers to the key size, so 256-bit has 1.1×1077 possible combinations. While it is true that any key can be broken given enough resources, cracking AES with 256-bit keys is definitely out-of-reach nowadays: to break it, a good hacker would need to use supercomputers that would countinuously work for many (billions of) years.
Tumblr media
Two security protocols
Like most VPNs, NordVPN creates a tunnel to transmit your data to VPN servers securely. When this happens, two different security protocols are used to determine how that tunnel is actually formed: IKEv2/IPsec and OpenVPN. More specifically, IKEv2/IPsec has been adopted as a default in NordVPN iOS and macOS apps, while OpenVPN is the default for NordVPN Windows, macOS, and Android apps. Both of these protocols have their pros and cons, but each one of them is dependable and highly recommended by most IT security experts worldwide. IKEv2/IPsec IPsec, which stands for Internet Protocol Security, operates with the newest version of the Internet Key Exchange (IKEv2) to enhance security, stability, and speed. IKEv2/IPsec employs powerful cryptographic algorithms and keys, which are almost unbreakable - even by today's supercomputers. With computing power continuously increasing, and cryptography breakthroughs always around the corner, it’s important to stay one step ahead. That’s why NordVPN uses the very adaptable Next Generation Encryption (NGE) with IKEv2/IPsec: this will add an additional layer of security, because the protocol will mantain its resiliency even when the CPU computational capacity will increase over the natural course of time. OpenVPN OpenVPN is an extremely versatile security protocol, which you can use both for TCP and UPD ports – for safe browsing, gaming, and live streaming. To guarantee the protection of your sensitive data, NordVPN uses AES-256-GCM encryption algorithm with a 2048-bit DH key. The whole global cybersecurity community has a stake in OpenVPN since it has an open source code, which is freely available for review and modification. With every new bug report, with every new-found vulnerability, with every line of code, this security protocol gets stronger and better. We can definitely say that transparency is the most powerful OpenVPN feature. Verdict Although using AES-256 is definitely a good thing, it also became the de-facto standard among the top-tier VPN service providers. The same can be said for IKEv2/IPsec and OpenVPN: both protocols have been adopted by most VPN services as well. Therefore, we can say that NordVPN data-encryption level is great, yet it's pretty much on-par with most of its competitors nowadays.
Features
This is a list of NordVPN's most important features. DoubleVPN One of the NordVPN most distinctive features is called DoubleVPN. Typically, when you connect to VPN, your traffic travels through a remote VPN server, which changes your IP address and encrypts all the data that you send or receive over the internet. Due to this setup, no snoopers or cybercriminals can see what you are doing online. With Double VPN, your online activity hides behind two servers instead of one, using a two-layered connection pattern known as VPN server chaining. The working principle is rather simple: Your traffic reaches a remote VPN server and leaves it securely encrypted. The encrypted traffic then passes through a second VPN server and gets encrypted one more time. You reach your internet destination securely and privately. It goes without saying that such tecnique drastically increases the overall security of the connection, as well as the anonymization standards: however, it also comes with a noticeable performance decrease - which is often well-worth the trade. These are the most distinctive benefits of the DoubleVPN feature: Double encryption: the transmitted data is protected with an extra layer of encryption, thus making it twice as hard for hackers to decipher. Enhanced security: the connections are mixed between UDP and TCP protocols, which increases the security level of all the online activity. IP masking: As the caller's actual IP address was changed by the first VPN server, the second server doesn’t have any information about it. Increased privacy: Nobody, including the caller's ISP can see the final destination of the web requests issued by the caller: they can only know that a VPN service is being used. Kill Switch The Kill Switch is a fundamental characteristic of any good level VPN: such function  provides the automatic shutdown of one or more applications (or the internet connection, or the entire PC) whenever the VPN connection ends for any reason. It essentially acts as a safety net that will protect the transmitted data against accidental disclosure in case of connection problems. Strict No-Log policy Without a VPN, all your online traffic passes through your internet service provider (ISP): they can see everything you do online and track your behavior. Sometimes they even hand your internet access data over to advertisers, government agencies, or other third parties. When you connect to a VPN server, your ISP can no longer see what you do on the internet. However, your VPN provider does have that power. So it’s crucial to know what kind of logs – details about you and your online activity – the provider keeps. NordVPN operates in Panama, where there are no legal requirements for collecting user data: this basically means that they are free to apply a no-log policy, meaning they won't register their users activities at all. This is a really good thing for users privacy, because no government will be able to force NordVPN to hand over your online activity records. CyberSec A  recently introduced feature that blocks certain threats (malware or phishing) automatically: it should acts just like an antivirus + a firewall IPS system. Unfortunately, we were unable to properly test it (we'll edit this section if we'll be able to do that in the near future). Custom DNS A neat feature allowing the user to add their own custom DNS servers to be used instead of NordVPN's DNS servers. P2P-Friendly servers P2P stands for Peer-to-Peer networking. It is one of the fastest and most convenient ways to share files with large groups of people. Normally, each user would download a file from one server or a network of servers. With P2P, each downloader also becomes an uploader, making the process of file sharing much more efficient. The reputation of P2P sharing is somewhat negative, which is why many internet service providers (ISPs) try to discourage users from it. But file sharing has valid and perfectly legal uses – in fact, the P2P technology is ideal for public distribution of free-access data, sharing large amounts of corporate data internally, and also pushing software updates to massive user bases. That being said, you still need to think about safety measures while sharing or downloading files from a P2P network. The main issue is that every device uploading or downloading the same file on a P2P network can see each other’s IP address. That’s the very nature of P2P – it wouldn’t work otherwise. So what’s great for efficient information sharing is not that great for your privacy. Besides, your internet service provider can also quickly detect that you’re using P2P. They may deny access to file-sharing websites or set bandwidth limits, which slows down your internet speed. With these risks in mind, if you use P2P, VPN should be your best friend for (at least) three reasons: IP address masking. When you enable a VPN, you connect to a remote VPN server, replacing your real IP address with that of the server. This IP swap hides your location and helps you stay private while sharing files or simply browsing the web. Bandwidth throttling protection. When you use a VPN, your ISP can’t detect that you are sharing files and shape your connection accordingly. This way, you can avoid the annoyance of bandwidth throttling and internet roadblocks. Online traffic encryption. With a VPN, P2P files and all other data you send and receive travels through a strongly encrypted tunnel. That means no one can get their hands on your private information. 6-Device rule A single NordVPN account will cover up to six devices at once. Moreover, if you connect NordVPN to your router, it will secure every device on your network, using up only a single space out of the 6 available. Considering how many devices are available within a single family nowadays, this is indeed a good thing, as you can secure the whole home with a single account. Top-grade Assistance NordVPN customer service has been given the Best Customer Service 2018 Award by bestVPN.com: their agents are ready to help you 24/7 (all day, every day) using a deedicate line: they also have a pretty good Help Center & Support page which can be useful to quickly find the answers for most frequently asked questions.
VPN Client
The NordVPN Client is definitely a big deal, expecially if we compare it to the "minimalistic" approach chosen by most VPN service providers - which is not ideal when you have to play with a lot of options. It comes with Server List section with favorites and bookmark support, and a well-presented Settings page which can be used to customize the various connection properties and features.
Tumblr media
Here's a list of the most important features you can control from the Settings section: CyberSec Custom DNS Auto connect Kill Switch (App and Internet) Invisibility on LAN. This useful feature hides the computer on the local area network. Obfuscated Servers. It can be used to use NordVPN from restricted locations (we couldn't try that since our country is not restricted). Notifications. This option can be activated t o get connect and disconnect notifications in the SysTray. The Server List section provides a country-specific server lists, dividing them in four different types: Dedicated IP address. These servers have a dedicated IP addresses that don't change. Double VPN. These servers will chain the VPN connection so that traffic flows through two VPN servers all the time (as previously explained in the Double VPN paragraph). Onion over VPN. These server will allow you to use TOR while connected to the VPN. P2P. These servers supports P2P traffic (not all do).
Performance Tests
The test-drive which we carried out was mostly performance-oriented: we were interested to measure the ability of the VPN to maintain a decent speed over time with a wide range of different applications: Torrent, Emule/eDonkey, web surfing in HTTP and HTTPS mode , FTP, SFTP, RDP connections, TeamViewer sessions, online gaming (using CounterStrike: Global Offensive, MTG Arena and Hearthstone) and video streaming platforms (Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, CrunchyRoll, Youtube Red). We have to admit that the results were top-notch - probably the best we ever got from a VPN service as of today. Let alone the online FPS-based gaming, which remains substantially out of the question for all VPN services as the ping rate drops below the acceptable minimum levels (150-300 latency), the speed drop was rather minimal. We got a ~10% speed decrease in WWW browsing and FTP/FTPS download, and ~15% speed decrease with the P2P applications: in some cases (BitTorrent), the ISP throttling bypass allowed us to record even better performances than the non-VPN connection - which was also great. Conclusions NordVPN lives well up to its standards: a blazingly-fast, secure and reliable VPN service that is well-worth the price: highly recommended!   Read the full article

Dear Mark: Iron Followup
Last week’s post on iron levels got a big response and garnered a ton of questions from you guys. Today, I’m going to clarify a few things and answer as many questions as I can. First, do iron and ferritin levels mean different things for men and women? If so, how do those differences manifest? What about premenopausal women vs postmenopausal women? Second, what do we make of the fact that ferritin is also increased in times of inflammation? Is there a way to distinguish between elevated ferritin caused by inflammation and elevated ferritin caused by high iron? Third, is desiccated liver a good option for liver haters? And finally, I share some exciting plague news.
Let’s go:
Emma wrote:
I’d love to see more info on iron levels as they relate to men and women differently. I recently had an iron infusion for low ferretin, not thinking much would change I actually experienced so many positive effects I didn’t even know were coming my way. I’m less cold, no more afternoon fatigue, less hair falling out, no more random palpitations, improved restless leg syndrome and the number one big change is it improved anxiety levels – in fact my anxiety is now gone. The last two are due to a connection between iron and dopamine. I learnt that children with mental health issues are often treated for low ferretin where possible, elevating levels to around 100 showing positive results (would love to see literature on this), for me my ferretin went from 20 to 130 and its changed my life, at 31 I haven’t felt this good in years. Yay iron!
That’s awesome to hear. Yes, it’s important to stress the very basic essentiality of iron. Without it, we truly cannot produce energy. And since energy is the currency for everything that happens in the body, an iron deficiency makes everything start to fall apart.
As for gender and iron, there’s a lot to discuss.
A good portion of women with hemochromatosis never actually express it phenotypically, meaning their lab tests don’t show evidence of dysregulated iron metabolism or storage. According to one study of hemochromatosis homozygotes (people who inherited the mutation from both of their parents), being a woman makes it 16x more likely that your hereditary hemochromatosis won’t actually present as iron overload.
Another study found that among mostly-age-matched men (42 years) and women (39 years) with hemochromatosis, 78% of the men had iron overload while just 36% of the women had it. Iron overload was defined as transferrin saturation over 52% combined with ferritin levels of 300 ng/mL for men and 200 ng/mL for women.
High iron levels are more of an issue for postmenopausal women than premenopausal women. The latter group regularly sheds blood through menstruation, and if anything, they’re at a higher risk of low iron. Plus, estrogen is a key regulator of iron metabolism. As menopause sets in and estrogen diminishes, that regulation suffers.
For instance:
In postmenopausal Korean women, high ferritin levels predict metabolic syndrome and subclinical atherosclerosis.
High ferritin predicts metabolic syndrome in postmenopausal but not premenopausal women.
In premenopausal Korean women, higher ferritin levels predict better bone mineral density; menopause nullifies this relationship.
Remember that ferritin is actually a measurable protein bound to iron, so testing a ferritin level is technically an indirect way to measure iron. Why is this important? Another characteristic of ferritin (the protein) is that it is an ACUTE PHASE REACTANT. This means that ferritin levels can fluctuate with illnesses and other inflammatory states in the body that drive up a ferritin value that is not related to an actual iron level fluctuation. Don’t get ferritin checked when you are sick with a cold or other illness.
This is a great point.
Ferritin is marker of long term iron storage, but it’s also an acute phase reactant that up regulates in response to inflammation or oxidative stress.
If you want to be really careful, you should get a HS-CRP test—that measures your overall inflammatory status. If CRP is elevated, ferritin can be elevated without saying anything about your iron status.
Come to think of it, if elevated ferritin can be a marker of inflammation and oxidative stress, the inflammation could be responsible for some of the negative health effects linked to high ferritin. Or, if having too much iron in the body can increase oxidative damage, it may be that high iron levels are increasing inflammation which in turn increases ferritin even further. Biology gets messy. Lots of feedback loops. However, the fact that many studies cited in the previous iron post that use blood donation to treat high ferritin have positive results indicates that for most people, ferritin can be, in most situations, an accurate estimation of your iron status.
To make sure it’s an iron problem, get a transferrin saturation test as well. That indicates the amount of iron you’re absorbing, with below 20% being low and over 45% being high. People with high ferritin and high transferrin saturation do have high iron levels. People whose ferritin is artificially enhanced by inflammation will have normal transferrin saturation levels.
I have one last question on this. You say “Don’t stop eating liver every week.” If you can’t stand the taste of liver, what do you think about taking liver capsules made from grass-fed New Zealand beef every day instead?
That’s a great option. Go for it.
People should generally aim for 4-8 ounces of fresh liver a week. Note the amount of desiccated liver in your capsules and multiply by 3 to get the fresh liver equivalent, then take enough each day (or all at once) to hit 4-8 ounces over the week. I hear good things about this one.
Mark, Thank you for your article on HH. I carry the gene but have been managing my iron levels through phlebotomies. I am full Keto, meat and all and have found my iron levels have not been effected by going Keto. Early detection is the key and ongoing monitoring. Bring on the plague!!!
You joke about that now, but there’s a startup that’s breeding heritage rat fleas that produce a mild strain of the plague that evades the attention of the immune system and proliferates throughout the body to keep iron levels in check without killing you. I’m an early investor, have a couple swarms installed in my condo, and (knock on wood) so far have avoided anything worse than a sore throat and maybe a mild open sore or two. There’s actually a big rift forming between the techs who want to keep the fleas heritage and those who want to go ahead with CRISPR and engineer them. One variant has had a deer tick gene inserted that adds an anesthetic compound to the flea’s saliva. That way you can have a personal swarm on you and never feel any bites or itches.
I’m not sure about CRISPR just yet, but I gotta say it’s pretty nice to be covered in fleas and not feel the bites. Time will tell.
Ok, I’m joking.
That’s it for today, folks. I hope I’ve answered some of your concerns, and if not, let me know down below. Thanks for reading!

Let’s go:

Mobile A/B Testing: Quality assurance checklist
Real-world behavioral tests are an effective way to better understand your customers and optimize your conversion rates. But for this testing to be effective, you must make sure it is accurately measuring customer behavior.
One reason these A/B split tests fail to give a correct representation of customer behavior is because of validity threats. This series of checklists is designed to help you overcome Instrumentation Effect. It is based on actual processes used by MECLABS Institute’s designers, developers and analysts when conducting our research services to help companies improve marketing performance.
MECLABS defines Instrumentation Effect as “the effect on the test variable caused by a variable external to an experiment, which is associated with a change in the measurement instrument.” In other words, the results you see do not come from the change you made (say, a different headline or layout), but rather, because some of your technology has affected the results (slowed load time, miscounted analytics, etc.)
Avoiding Instrumentation Effect is even more challenging for any test that will have traffic from mobile devices (which today is almost every test). So, to help you avoid the Instrumentation Effect validity threat, we’re providing the following QA checklist. This is not meant for you to follow verbatim, but to serve as a good jumping-off point to make sure your mobile tests are technically sound. For example, other browsers than the ones listed here may be more important for your site’s mobile functionality. Maybe your landing page doesn’t have a form, or you may use different testing tools, etc.
Of course, effective mobile tests require much more than thorough QA — you also must know what to test to improve results. If you’re looking for ideas for your tests that include mobile traffic, you can register for the free Mobile Conversion micro course from MECLABS Institute based on 25 years of conversion optimization research (with increasing emphases on mobile traffic in the last half decade or so).
There’s a lot of information here, and different people will want to save this checklist in different ways. You can scroll through the article you’re on to see the key steps of the checklist. Or use the form on this page to download a PDF of the checklist.
  Roles Defined
The following checklists are broken out by teams serving specific roles in the overall mobile development and A/B testing process. The checklists are designed to help cross-functional teams, with the benefit being that multiple people in multiple roles bring their own viewpoint and expertise to the project and evaluate whether the mobile landing page and A/B testing are functioning properly before launch and once it is live.
For this reason, if you have people serving multiple roles (or you’re a solopreneur and do all the work yourself), these checklists may be repetitive for you.
Here is a quick look at each team’s overall function in the mobile landing page testing process, along with the unique value it brings to QA:
Dev Team – These are the people who build your software and websites, which could include both front-end development and back-end development. They use web development skills to create websites, landing pages and web applications.
For many companies, quality assurance (QA) would fall in this department as well, with the QA team completing technical and web testing. While a technical QA person is an important member of the team for ensuring you run valid mobile tests, we have included other functional areas in this QA checklist because different viewpoints from different departments will help decrease the likelihood of error. Each department has its own unique expertise and is more likely to notice specific types of errors.
Value in QA: The developers and technological people are most likely to notice any errors in the code or scripts and make sure that the code is compatible with all necessary devices.
Project Team – Depending on the size of the organization, this may be a dedicated project management team, a single IT or business project manager, or a passionate marketing manager keeping track of and pushing to get everything done.
It is the person or team in your organization that coordinates work and manages timelines across multiple teams, ensures project work is progressing as planned and that project objectives are being met.
Value in QA: In addition to making sure the QA doesn’t take the project off track and threaten the launch dates of the mobile landing page test, the project team are the people most likely to notice when business requirements are not being met.
Data Team – The data scientist(s), analyst(s) or statistician(s) helped establish the measure of success (KPI – key performance indicator) and will monitor the results for the test. They will segment and gather the data in the analytics platform and assemble the report explaining the test results after they have been analyzed and interpreted.
Value in QA: They are the people most likely to notice any tracking issues from the mobile landing page not reporting events and results correctly to the analytics platform.
Design Team – The data scientist(s), analyst(s) or statistician(s) helped establish the measure of success (KPI – key performance indicator) and will monitor the results for the test. They will segment and gather the data in the analytics platform and assemble the report explaining the test results after they have been analyzed and interpreted.
Value in QA: They are the people most likely to notice any tracking issues from the mobile landing page not reporting events and results correctly to the analytics platform.
  DEV QA CHECKLIST
Pre-launch, both initial QA and on Production where applicable
Visual Inspection and Conformity to Design of Page Details
Verify latest copy in place
Preliminary checks in a “reference browser” to verify design matches latest comp for desktop/tablet/mobile layouts
Use the Pixel Perfect Overlay function in Firefox Developer Tools – The purpose of this tool is to take an image that was provided by the designer and lay it over the website that was produced by the developer. The image is a transparency which you can use to point out any differences or missing elements between the design images and the webpage.
Displaying of images – Make sure that all images are displaying, aligned and up to spec with the design.
Forms, List and Input Elements (Radio Buttons, Click Boxes) – Radio buttons (Dots and Circles) and Checkboxes (Checks and Boxes) are to be tested thoroughly as they may trigger secondary actions. For example, selecting a “Pay by Mail” radio button will sometimes automatically hide the credit card form.
Margins and Borders – Many times, you will notice that a portion of the body or perhaps a customer review or image is surrounded by a border or maybe even the whole page. It is our duty to inspect them so that there are no breaks and that they’re prominent enough for the user to decipher each bordered section.
Copy accuracy – Consistency between typography, capitalization, punctuation, quotations, hyphens, dashes, etc. The copy noted in the webpage should match any documents provided pertaining to copy and text unless otherwise noted or verified by the project manager/project sponsor.
Font styling (Font Color, Format, Style and Size) – To ensure consistency with design, make sure to apply the basic rules of hierarchy for headers across different text modules such as titles, headers, body paragraphs and legal copies.
Link(s) (Color, Underline, Clickable)
Web Page Functionality: Verify all page functionality works as expected (ensure treatment changes didn’t impact page functionality)
Top navigation functionality – Top menu, side menu, breadcrumb, anchor(s)
Links and redirects are correct
Media – Video, images, slideshow, PDF, audio
Form input elements – drop down, text fields, check and radio module, fancy/modal box
Form validation – Error notification, client-side errors, server-side errors, action upon form completion (submission confirmation), SQL injection
Full Page Functionality – Search function, load time, JavaScript errors
W3C Validation – CSS Validator (http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/), markup validator (http://validator.w3.org/)
Verify split functional per targeting requirements
Verify key conversion scenario (e.g., complete a test order, send test email from email system, etc.) – If not already clear, QA lead should verify with project team how test orders should be placed
Where possible, visit the page as a user would to ensure targeting parameters are working properly (e.g., use URL from the PPC ad or email, search result, etc.)
Tracking Metrics
Verify tracking metrics are firing in browser, and metric names match requirements – Check de-bugger to see firing as expected
Verify reporting within the test/analytics tool where possible – Success metrics and click tracking in Adobe Target, Google Content Experiments, Google Analytics, Optimizely, Floodlight analytics, email data collection, etc.
Back End Admin Panel
Database includes accurate offer information
Tracking correct order information from customer (data collection)
Ecommerce funds are transferred to and from buyer and seller accounts – Test for different account types. For example, test in PayPal Sandbox (https://developer.paypal.com/developer/accounts/). Also, test credit cards (test numbers available at https://www.paypalobjects.com/en_AU/vhelp/paypalmanager_help/credit_card_numbers.htm)
Validate various forms of payments are correctly charged when combined: E.g., gift card, rewards, discount code, promotional offer, credit cards, etc. (test numbers available at https://www.paypalobjects.com/en_AU/vhelp/paypalmanager_help/credit_card_numbers.htm)
Payment Validation and Errors – Ensure the character limiter is effective for all types of credit cards (Visa & Mastercard: 16, Amex: 14)
Notify Project Team and Data Team it is ready for their QA (via email preferably) – indicate what reference browser is. After Project Team initial review, complete full cross browser/ cross device checks using “reference browser” as a guide:
Browser Functionality – Windows
Internet Explorer 7 (IE7)
IE8
IE9
IE10
IE11
Modern Firefox
Modern Chrome
Browser Functionality – macOS
Modern Safari
Modern Chrome
Modern Firefox8
Mobile Functionality – Tablet
Android
Windows
iOS
Mobile Functionality – Mobile phone
Android
Windows
iOS
Post-launch, after the test is live to the public:
Notify Project Team & Data Team the test is live and ready for post-launch review (via email preferably)
Verify split is open to public Verify split functional per targeting requirements
Where possible, visit the page as a user would to ensure targeting parameters are working properly (e.g., use URL from the PPC ad or email, search result, etc.)
Test invalid credit cards on a production environment
PROJECT TEAM QA CHECKLIST:
Pre-Launch and Post-Launch QA:
Check that copy and design are correct for control and treatments in the “reference browser”:
Ensure all added copy/design elements are there and correct
Ensure all removed copy/design elements are gone
Ensure all changed copy/design elements are correct
Ensure control experience is as intended for the test
Check page functionality:
Ensure all added/changed functionality is working as expected
Ensure all standard/business as usual – BAU_ functionality is working as expected:
Go through the typical visitor path (even beyond the testing page/ location) and ensure everything functions as expected
Make sure links go where supposed to, fields work as expected, data passes as expected from page to page.
Check across multiple browser sizes (desktop, tablet, mobile)
If site is responsive, scale the browser from full screen down to mobile and check to ensure all the page breaks look correct

Some blockchain predictions for 2019
Some blockchain predictions for 2019
2018 was a challenging year for the blockchain world. Not all my predictions were realised. But what is sure is: the hype is over. The adoption of this technology by the industry was less outspoken than predicted. Blockchain spending by companies went slower than expected, while many ongoing projects were stalled or even stopped. This had much to do with the turbulences on the crypto markets. And that is not that strange as many still see a narrow link between bitcoin and blockchain technology. The crypto markets lost more than 80 percent of their overall value from the beginning of the year. Add to that increased government scrutiny and outright bans of certain activities like crypto currency trading, ICOs etc.
As 2018 has come to an end, many are wondering what awaits us in the near future. Where are things going, and what are the trends and developments CIOs and other leaders interested in blockchain should be aware of. It is  thus time to give an insight into predictions for blockchain technology for 2019 and beyond.  I know, it is always difficult to predict what is in store for the future. But here are a number of my predictions in 2019 concerning the blockchain technology that should be on their radar screen. So let’s take a look at how things are likely “to work out” over the next 12 months.
The blockchain industry is working to improve its image
Blockchain has a bit of a reputation problem. It is believed that a lot of businesses are actually sceptical of blockchain and unwilling to adopt this technology just because it is too much associated  with crypto currencies, and especially bitcoin.
The blockchain industry is expected to further try to work on its image in 2019, and separate blockchain from crypto in the minds of business. This in order for blockchain adoption to happen on a larger scale, It should be broadly communicated that blockchain technology can have numerous use cases that are completely unrelated to cryptocurrencies.
We will also see a shift in terminology. It is reasonable to expect that the term blockchain will be gradually replaced by another more neutral one: DLT or distributed ledger technology. This to send a clear signal to executive teams within corporates that their projects have nothing to do with the hyped world of cryptocurrencies and ICOs. Once this becomes clear to more people in business, blockchain will be able to experience much wider adoption.
The trilemma problem will (largely) be tackled
Another challenge for the blockchain industry is to solve the so-called trilemma problem. Despite the hype and huge investments in existing blockchain projects, the great promise of this technology has largely gone unfulfilled. A major stumbling block the industry faces is the imbalance between scalability, decentralisation and security. This seemingly intractable trilemma of technical barriers has undermined the trust and capabilities necessary for mainstream adoption and business relevance.
Much work is already being done to figure out solutions to this trilemma. Major research on possibilities to overcome the key shortcomings in existing architectures have been exploited, this to allow blockchain transactions becoming faster while preserving security and decentralisation.
This should enable  developers to build applications that solve real-world business challenges. Though it took time to attain a consensus, scaling solutions such as sidechains are already showing promise. And as we move further into 2019, these solutions will become more and more sophisticated. Real breakthroughs in scalability and performance are expected to begin coming to fruition and the blockchain trilemma largely being solved in two to three years from now.
Companies will look for best-fit applications
Moving further down the line, we will begin to see a separation between hype and reality. 2019 will be a year where the industry will shift its focus toward the real-world problems that blockchain technology could solve, with the goal of making “incremental and necessary changes to operations”.
Blockchain technology has long time be wrongly seen by many as a “magical way” to resolve all issues that we struggle with today. While it is true that blockchain can help with a lot of them, there are still numerous other problems that are better suited to be solved by alternative technologies, such as robotics, AI, and similar ones.
According to Deloitte’s 2018 Global Blockchain Survey, companies are starting to move from proof-of-concept projects to real-world applications. There will be a particular focus on discovering not just where blockchain could fit, but to find places where it is the best fit. We will therefore see a transition of enterprise interest towards identifying tangible, productive use cases for blockchain. Projects will thereby move away from a “blockchain-for-everything” approach to back-to-earth implementation.
Blockchain projects may become more mature …
In 2018, companies have implemented a large number of high profile blockchain pilots but the results of these developments have yet to come to full fruition. Earlier this year Forrester Research anticipated that 90% of blockchain pilots won’t become complete products or services.
For the industry to mature and gain legitimacy, this shake out had to happen. 2018 has been a tough testing ground to establish how this technology could be improved, and what problems they could solve. The successes and failures of blockchain technology have given technology providers the tools they need to launch into the next stage of development: clear, targeted goals and expectations.
In 2019, it is expected that blockchain technology will come off age. As technology and valuation start to converge at rational levels the stage will be set for the blockchain industry to enter the next phase of maturity. A level of maturation within the blockchain space, with sustainable blockchain projects on the rise as dedicated blockchain teams are steaming up their efforts to deliver “exciting” projects.
…. and will raise visibility for blockchain
In 2019 we will see a growing number of new projects and new platforms continue to emerge. Developers and the innovative projects they work on will continue to advance blockchain capabilities, by creating ground breaking proofs-of-concept and building and achieving product-market use cases.
We may expect to see projects ranging from supply chain, identity, transparency, and governance proving the true value of blockchain. Several prominent blockchain projects will significantly raise its visibility and if delivering as promised it will positively influence corporate interest in this technology.
As a result we will see a wave of widespread and compelling specific use cases and real applications coming into the market emerge in 2019 as corporates are looking to implement more focused blockchain applications.
More companies will enter the blockchain arena …..
2019 should see blockchain adoption on a broader scale as an increasing number are seeing that such technology will provide benefits for their companies as well. As the question moves from ‘What is blockchain?’ to ‘How can we use blockchain technology?’, we can expect more businesses to enter the blockchain space.
Companies are already experimenting with new functions of the technology on a daily basis, and the wide range of applications for blockchain is beginning to emerge. In a bid to eliminate inefficiencies and streamline processes within their businesses, we therefore may expect to see an increase in the number of traditional companies incorporating blockchain technology to provide solutions for everyday business problems, using blockchain to either supplement existing systems or create entirely new business models.
….. and will invest more in blockchain technology
Blockchain technology is set to enter a new era in 2019, with many industry experts expecting the technology to be more widely adopted by mainstream companies. As more and more companies are moving towards this emerging technology, we can expect that investments in this technology will further rise.
PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) recently reported that many of its customers “are spending big money” on blockchain initiatives, and that blockchain spending should only keep growing. According to a 2018 Deloitte’s Global Blockchain Survey, 40% of respondents reported that their organization will invest $5 million or more in blockchain technology in 2019. A survey conducted by the International Data Corporation found that the survey’s respondents were willing to invest millions into blockchain technology this coming year.
Decentralised apps (DAPPS) will continue to grow
“Too many applications using a blockchain ledger still rely on a centralized application that represents a single point of failure and also a vulnerability that could allow “tampering” with the data, before it gets written to the ledger”.
As companies shift their focus from “what is blockchain” to “what can we do with this technology”, another key trend in 2019 will be more decentralization of apps themselves. These are key for wider spread of blockchain and crypto currency adoption, as they will make blockchain more affordable and accessible. IBM has already developed a new blockchain product that allows start-ups and developers who are interested to build their own distributed ledger products. And some predict that we are going to see the first dapp that will hit a million users a day sometimes next year.
Off-chain components are important for enterprise-focused apps
Building such enterprise applications however is not an easy task, but it is a required step to ensure wide blockchain adoption for business usage. Application of blockchain technology is thereby important but the blockchain ledger is just a small part of the enterprise app.
More and more designed and architected applications will go beyond blockchain ledger in  2019. As developers are increasingly recognizing the importance of non-technology issues, they  will pay more attention to off-chain components as a key part of a blockchain project. User management, Workflows, systems integration, and many more off-chain components are needed to incorporate. Whether it’s agreeing on data and process definitions, smart contract rules, access permissions, or governance frameworks and legal agreements, ensuring that compliance will continue to challenge those in regulated industries.
Blockchain-based offerings across a wider area of industries
Looking at the most active blockchain sectors, these are still to be found in the finance, supply chain, and trade finance industry. These mainstream businesses will continue to both accept blockchain into their everyday practices, as well as shape its progression through usage and regulation.
But also industries like distribution and services, logistics, aviation and others have started exploring the potential of blockchain for use cases like payments, remittances, traceability etc. . In 2019 we will begin to witness more acceptance of blockchain-based offerings by a much broader industry base. The technology will be applied to a myriad of industries that can and should benefit from its transparency, speed, efficiency, and reliability. Industries – from manufacturing to retail – will start to explore the improvements blockchain can bring to supply chain transparency, ownership tracking, and others.
….. will disrupt a growing number of industries
It is certain that in 2019  blockchain will further revolutionize business processes for many industries. The technology is poised to change various industries, the financial services and banking industry, as well as the shipping and supply chain industries being the most significant.
We are slowly but surely beginning to witness also the gradual disruption of other industries such as insurance, healthcare, retail, education, loyalty etc. It is likely that these the disruptive impact of blockchain on these industries will further grow as blockchain technology will become more popular. The disruption this technology will bring for these segments however won’t be fully realized over the course of just one year.
Government Agencies will start adopting blockchain
The idea of the immutable distributed ledger and its security levels is also attracting various governments agencies to consider using it for storing data on such a system. This is due to the fact that it can hold large quantities of data which is then available from anywhere in the world at any time, while the system is mostly hack-proof. It clearly has potential, and government agencies are not going to wait too long before start using blockchain for its own purposes. Many believe that the process might actually begin in 2019. Estonia, for example, has already implemented blockchain technology with X-Road, a decentralized ledger that stores credentials of all citizens. And other authorities are looking for use cases like land registry, tax compliance, etc.
Blockchain will meet big data, AI, IOT and other technologies
Another important trend is that promising technological advances in other sectors such as AI, Big Data, IoT and biometrics will increasingly converge with blockchain technology. The convergence/conjunction between blockchain and the Internet of Things (IoT) is already picking up steam. According to a report by International Data Corporation (IDC), many IoT companies will be incorporating blockchain technology into their products. IDC predicts that 20% of IoT deplyments will have blockchain services installed by 2019. That way, companies will be able to move forward and create completely new business models, as well as revenue streams. Entirely new marketplaces are expected to appear as a result.
Using blockchain in products connected to the Internet of Things – such as wearable devices and smart appliances—also means consumers will be using the technology without even realising it. This usability will be a key factor in encouraging the uptake of blockchain technology across industries.
Also progress in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) sector is set to transform the industry, with advancements being used in blockchain and in cyber security amongst other areas. Companies are set to use AI to enhance customer experience and potentially reduce costs in certain areas of their operations. Blockchain is beneficial for these industries as well because it has a secure framework and it automates data exchange.
Increased demand for blockchain experts ….
As blockchain technology is increasingly seen as a non-bitcoin linked technology and will become more popular, companies are expected to “finally get over their fears” and start applying it. As a result, there will be a high demand for blockchain experts, architects as well as people with specific blockchain skills and an urgent need to keep attracting top talent into the industry. Finding people with the skills to design, deploy and maintain blockchain technology is however going to be a key challenge for companies in the near future. Since the technology is new, blockchain engineers are very few in number.
…. and for education and knowledge sharing
Another industry challenge is to overcome the present lack of formal blockchain education. Demand for education and training in this area will increase, particularly as the technology goes beyond bitcoin and will see more mainstream interest. As a result we will also see increased commitment by universities and other higher education institutions to introduce these blockchain and other technology courses in their package.
Higher education institutes are already involved in R&D and are nurturing developers needed to move forward the entire blockchain ecosystem. Most importantly, however, the blockchain industry needs to continue driving the technology’s research and development and share their blockchain knowledge with the industry through a “strong, global open-source development culture”.
Evolving blockchain ecosystem
The blockchain ecosystem is continuing to evolve quickly. This past year saw the dominance of major platforms like Ethereum, Hyperledger Fabric, R3’s Corda, Digital Assets and others. These have been at the basis of major blockchain developments.
Though their dominance in the market will continue, with the growing acceptance by other industries and segments new platforms (such as for the insurance, aviation, and transportation industry) will continue to emerge with different strengths. With competitiveness rising, and the cry for interoperability and standardisation increasing for optimal communication between different platforms and different types of blockchain networks the blockchain industry however is bound to undergo some sort of consolidation in 2019. Those platforms or networks best equipped to meet the businesses requirements will survive.
Comeback of crypto currencies …..
After a disastrous 2018 where the total market value of all cryptocurrencies shrunk by 80% to roughly $200 billion, we will see a comeback for cryptocurrencies in 2019, with a much more stable crypto market. Only the more compliant, problem-solving businesses will see their coins survive. That means that only those cryptocurrencies that really deliver added value are here to stay, and will continue to grow in 2019. Most existing cryptos, especially those which are not backed by legitimate, promising projects, will die. Out of the 2000 cryptocurrencies around 90% say some.
… and decentralised crypto exchanges will grow
As cryptocurrencies continue to evolve, so will crypto exchanges and their impact on the crypto world. Cryptocurrency exchanges that have come up in 2018, will show growth both in their number and popularity in 2019. Decentralised exchanges will thereby become increasingly prominent in markets for cross-border payment and investing. Although the majority of the present crypto exchanges are centralized, the number of decentralised crypto exchange will increase, as they will offer better user control, higher security level, and better liquidity. Consumers however will demand that these crypto exchanges be regulated, as more and more jurisdictions adopt regulatory frameworks around cryptocurrency.
From utility tokens to security tokens and STOs
The token model is fundamentally changing. Security tokens, which are regulated asset-backed tokens, or simply stocks on the block chain, are set to be another main trend in terms of coins and tokens in 2019, whereas with utility tokens, there will be a selection process.
Investment will continue to move out of the utility token space and go into digital assets with a clear use-case (e.g. XRP and cross-border remittances). Companies are increasingly realizing that not all projects need tokens and security token offerings (STOs) with real asset backing will become more prevalent. Many past token projects were only using ICOs as an opportunity to raise money, without a truly decentralized and functioning token economy “in the background”.
Securities are easier for the government to control and shut down, as they have a “legal point of failure” 9i.e. legal entity that can be targeted). These security tokens and tokenized assets are an exciting trend in finance. They will certainly gain more traction, opening the doors in financial markets.
Increased regulation and scrutiny in the crypto market …
Expectations are that the industry will become more stringently regulated in 2019 and beyond. Regulators will be intensively focused to the crypto sphere as they increasingly accept that the sector is here to stay. More regulation will be introduced and this will further allow legitimate businesses to thrive, making cryptocurrencies more reliable – while also stabilizing the market.
The  actions from the US SEC will influence virtually every other jurisdiction. As the largest and most influential regulator in the world this will trigger other regulators worldwide to follow suit, adding structure and pathways to legal and compliant operations of crypto businesses. A uniform set of global guidelines around cryptocurrency would go a long way to stabilizing the market and provide some much needed assurance and direction. These clear frameworks would lead to greater clarity around how and where crypto businesses can exist and thrive, and give clearance for professional operators to work openly.
……. but also more attention from regulators in the blockchain segment
Blockchain technology itself is likely to receive also more attention from regulators and lawmakers in the near future. Especially if it is used by governments and large organisations. This  will both pose challenges to companies operating within the space, but also offer an opportunity for innovation and development.
The introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in Europe in 2018 already had a widespread effect globally. In 2019, we will see privacy and personal data protection trends continuing to grow in importance. This is something we can expect with blockchain, given that a large part of this technology is designed to verify the identity and protect the privacy of people and assets across traditional borders.
With blockchain innovation moving fast and its adoption is increasing, the industry must adapt and have an open dialogue with regulators to ensure progress does not come to a stanstill.
By the way, happy new year!

Real breakthroughs in scalability and performance are expected to begin coming to fruition and the blockchain trilemma largely being solved in two to three years from now.
Companies will look for best-fit applications

AMD Radeon RX 570 in mining: Best Review 2021 | Testing| Hashrate | Profitability | Specs | Best Coins (Ethereum) - The RX 570 video cards have shown good performance in mining and have proven themselves in the field of ether mining. On the AMD RX 570, mining can bring good profit, but for this you need to carefully study the range of products from various manufacturers and properly overclock the video card. The article will describe the overclocking of the RX 570 8gb video card, for mining, which card model is more suitable and how you can reduce the power consumption of the RX 570 in mining. Please note About The AMD Radeon RX 570 Review - The Review was done earlier than 2021 so their will be variation interms of the rate would earn when currency exchange is taken into consideration. AMD RX 570 in mining, characteristics and relevance (2021) The profit that a coin mining farm can bring to the owner depends on the power of the video card. Therefore, the need for new products among video cards arises more from miners than from gamers. Miners, at the earliest opportunity, evaluate and give recommendations on new video cards, give them performance ratings and describe the possibility of overclocking the memory and processor of the device. After the release, RX 570 attracted the interest of farm owners, and those who were just about to start mining. In order to somehow cover the shortage of video cards, various manufacturers have released their own models of cards based on this chip. This ensured the popularity of RX 570 cards among miners and the demand in the computer hardware market. They gradually began to take leadership positions in this area and stood alongside their predecessor, the RX series. On the RX 570 video card  , Ethereum mining performed well and thanks to this, it became the main device that mines coins on algorithms that do not use ASIC architecture . But, even the arrival of the first ASIKs on the air did not put an end to gpu mining. Cheap and hardy RX graphics cards have remained profitable. However, everything flows, everything changes. Several years ago, the powerful and relatively inexpensive 570 ousted not only the bulky and energy-consuming R9 series cards from the cryptoasset mining market, but also its closest relatives, the RX 470. And now this model is being replaced by the Navi series graphics adapters. However, it cannot be said that the RX 570 is no longer relevant for mining. Many crypto-miners have cards of this line and still mine Ether. Of course, this primarily concerns gpu devices with 8GB memory, but with the current Ethereum rate, it’s too early to write off four gigabytes, because there is also Ethereum classic, which can be mined on the RX 570 for at least a couple of years, and if its modernized algorithm does not break through ASIK and more. Ravencoin also brings good profit, so it's too early to write off this model and let's get acquainted with its technical parameters. People Also Asked: Questions about Radeon RX 570 Radeon RX 570 - Still Enough for 1080p in 2021? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5kideA_roE The standard features of the RX 570 - number of processors - 2048 pcs. ; - interface - PCI-E ; - number of texture units - 128 pcs. ; - core frequency - 1255 MHz. ; - memory frequency - 7000 MHz. ; - memory capacity - 256 bits ; - maximum power consumption - 150 watts . Which RX 570 is the best for mining, model selection The RX 570 video card was produced in two variations:  4 GB and 8 GB of memory . Buying this model for mining in 2018, you can ignore the amount of video memory. Indeed, this option has practically no effect on the speed of mining coins of the Ethash (DaggerHashimoto) algorithm. Last spring, everyone was ready for the fact that for another  month or two and 4 GB will not be able to mine ETH and ETC , but for the RX 570 these are the most profitable coins. Of course, many other coins and tokens have been created on the basis of Dagger Hashimoto, but the profitability of mining will drop significantly. As a result, it turned out, how it happened. A very interesting story happened to the classic. The miners using AMD products were predicted to fail, but they continue to work safely. As of February 3, 2021, a mining farm of six RX 570 cards brings on Ether about $ 15 per day (without deducting the cost of electricity). Where to mine Ethereum Classic is practically irrelevant. The hashrate on both Windows and Linux is almost the same. By mining the ETC token, you can earn 3 USD in 24 hours. The profit on other Ethash coins is even smaller. On Equihash, the reds lag behind the greens, except for the Beam crypto coin. On kryptonite, after the departure of Monero, there were no profitable alts for a long time, but then Haven went up in price. The market is going up now, in the cold season you can successfully mine RVN. and other tokens can become more profitable. Perhaps not today, that by tomorrow someone will launch a new, profitable for mining, the project and the situation will improve. In addition, it should be borne in mind that Ethereum is switching to PoS mining, and the Ethereum classic project, according to Vitalik Buterin, will merge with large ether in the near future, and then these coins will become inaccessible for traditional mining. But still, 8 GB cards have more opportunities, for example, they can be used to mine a very promising Grin coin and other altcoins Cuckatoo31. Once, miners, due to indicators that do not change depending on the amount of memory, when mining with the  DaggerHashimoto  and  Equihash algorithms,  chose the one that was  cheaper , that is, the version with  4 GB . When the exchange rate began to change, many had to think about buying a version with a large amount of memory. Therefore, it is better to immediately overpay a little and take the 8 GB version . This applies not only to the RX  570, in a year and a half the turn of the six-gig 1660 S and 5600 XT will come . Get new models with 8 GB or higher memory. Even if the rate does not change for the worse, at any time a new algorithm may appear or the existing one may change, which will require more RAM to increase the hash rate. RAM sticks from Elpida and Hynix have pretty good overclocking potential and are found in RX 570 cards from most manufacturers. But there are also video cards with memory from Samsung, after the timing firmware they can provide a very high hash rate. Such memory chips are installed in Gigabyte RX 570 ( mainly AORUS) and in Sapphire Nitro + RX 570 . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmsxM-gGles Also, a good cooling system is an important parameter when choosing a card. This is exactly what the PowerColor RX 570 Red Devil has . There are as many as 3 fans installed on this card, due to which it remains as cold as possible. Top 10 Question Asked About The AMD Radeon RX 570 By Customer Before they Buy Top 10 Question Asked About The AMD Radeon RX 570 By Customer Before they BUY Question 1: Does The RX 570 card works for a power supply thermaltake tr2-600nl2nc 600w (not certified)??? Answer: Yes Question 2: Does the RX 570 works with a msi z97 motherboard lga1150 ddr3 Answer: Yes! but got to have the 500watt PSU. Question 3: The AMD Radeon 570, Is this the same as an amd rx 580 8gb? Answer: No, the RX 580 has more compute units and usually a faster GPU core clock speed. The RX 580 is a better performing graphics card. Question 4: Has anyone installed this on an older fm2+ mobo? i have the msi a88x g45 board with the a10-7800. pcpartpicker said it should. anyone done this? Answer: This card is perfect for bottom of line motherboards. To make sure, go to userbenchmark and see if anyone else is running it. I have mine on an Asus 320m, which is absolutely bottom tier. Answer 2: I would say this will run well. I recently had to upgrade to another board and cpu, BUT I had the rx580 8gb on my fm2a75m-dgs. I loved it, but couldn’t get the full power from the card. Turning off shadows and any graphics that utilize more cpu power helps things for playing on a 4K tv. Question 5: So i got all my parts not to long ago. when built everything turned on but i got a no singal screen. the gpu light turns too. what should i do? Answer: Sorry you are having issues with the card. My install went without a hitch and I am pleased with the card overall. Your symptoms sound kinda vague and diagnosing the issue without hands on examination would be a fruitless task to take on. It could be many so things from something so simple as plugging into motherboard video ports instead of the ports on the video card all the way to a defective GPU. If you'er a Prime member I would suggest sending it back if it's within the Amazon Prime return period. I would then get another unit or a different RX 570 brand name (suggest MSI or Sapphire brands both are very good and not much more expensive). The Power Color 8GB version is even less expensive than the XFX but it's on par with XFX in quality. If that doesn't resolve the issue you may have problems with other parts of your system. Something to check is to see if the GPU is on your motherboard's compatibility list for GPU's. I think it's unlikely that that is the problem, but if all else fails perhaps it may be a contributing issue. Good Luck. Question 6: Is it normal for the fans not spinning at start up? Answer: no Answer from other Customer: This card waits until the temps get high enough before it brings the fans on (usually like 50c or so) Question 7: Can the blue LED above the power connector be disabled? Answer: You could put some paint, tape, or glue on it, but no light means no power. Question 8: What is the warranty on this card? Answer: The XFX website says the warranty is 3 years for manufacturers defects. Question 9: Is The Radeon RX 570 a 16 pcie? Answer: Yes Question 10: Will this card work with dell optiplex 9020 & 4 monitors plus run well on x-plane 11 and ms2020? i would like to buy two to run 6 or 7 monitors? Answer: This card is pretty bad on its own so id say if you wanna run alot of monitors id get a different gpu ( From a customer Point of View) Top 3 Best Reviews of the Radeon RX 570 by Customer on Amazon XFX Radeon RX 570 RS Edition 1286MHz, 8gb GDDR5, DX12 VR Ready, Dual BIOS, 3xDP HDMI DVI, AMD Graphics Card (RX-570P8DFD6) Amazon Customer Review 1: I have this paired with a GIGABYTE B360M DS3H Mobo, 8GB 2400 DDR4 ram, and believe it or not a pentium gold g5400, And a Samsung Evo 850 512gb SSD, alongside 2 1TB HDDs. This card does not disappoint it's f****** awesome, Fornite at 1920X1080 100 FPS in performance mode without overclocking. Apex legends in the menu 150 FPS in game highest 112 FPS when things get crowded about 70 it has dipped as low as 58 FPS but that's impressive with this buget GPU and Budget CPU. Dolphin emulator all GameCube games play perfect Mario sunshine in at 50 FPS other games look great like HD remasters!! such as Mario's brothers mansion. Brawl for Wii locked at 60 FPS in fullscreen. No errors in N64 or Wii/GC emulators. My favorite part with the software from amd it's super simple to keep track of CPU,GPU,RAM usage and load. The fans on this GPU may not spin at all unless the temp is at 60C or above so don't freak if the fans are not spinning with the AMD software in the performance section you can override 0 RPM and have fans spin at desired speed. Hope this helped! Amazon Customer Review 2: Primarily used in conjunction with an old Intel i7 4770k, ASUS Z87-A mobo, 16GB DDR3 1866Mhz and replaces an old GTX 750. Decent gaming with 1080p. AVOID installing the Radeon Adrenalin software package. Version 2020-edition-20.4.2-apr23 crashes EVERY SINGLE TIME with Doom Eternal in Windows 10 x64. Run the Adrenalin software package to unpack the drivers, then cancel the installation. Then manually install the drivers through the Windows device manager from the directory where the drivers were unpacked to avoid installing the PURELY OPTIONAL Adrenalin software. Fan noise is barely audible-to-acceptable when gaming. I'm using a full-sized ATX with 120mm intakes and exhausts, so air flow around the video card isn't a problem. Fans are barely audible within a fully-enclosed ATX case when playing Doom Eternal at 1920x1080 / Ultra Nightmare Settings, but it can burst to 100% LOUD AS HELL during POST and stress testing. And I mean LOUD, like fan noise from a 1000 watt microwave kitchen oven! What's weird about this card is that it has 2 heat pipes installed BUT it has room for a 3rd. There are cut-outs in the heat fins and extra space in the heat-sink where a 3rd heat pipe can be installed, but are purposely left empty. It still works, though. Amazon Customer Review 3: I recently purchased this item (RX 570 version) for use in my recording studio, where we have 4 24" displays in place for mixing and recording music tracks. I wasn't completely sure if this would support our application, but it turned out to be the perfect choice. We did have to purchase 3 cables to go from the card's 3 DisplayPorts to the HDMI inputs on 3 of the monitors and connected the 4th using a standard HDMI cable. Worth noting that you will need two 6-pin power cables available from your PC's power supply to power the card. All in all, the installation and setup took less than an hour. But, that included setting up four displays and downloading the drivers, physically installing the card, etc... I recommend this to anyone needing up to 4 monitors controlled with one display adapter. Worst Review by Customers of the AMD Radeon RX 570 On Amazon Worst Review by Customers of the AMD Radeon RX 570 On Amazon Worst Review of Customers on Amazon RX 570: When I first received this card, I was extremely happy to finally have a graphics card that gives me double the performance compared to my other graphics card. Except after using this card for more than 2 hours, it starts to crash and screen flicker my monitor. I did everything I could to make sure it wasn't my drivers that was the issue by installing old drivers and new ones and I still got the same problems. I even upgraded to windows 10 and I still have issues with this graphics card crashing my computer. When I plug in my old gpu, it works perfectly even though i used the same connectors and drivers and never once got an issue with my old gpu. So i returned this card and got a replacement, also the display ports stopped working after a few days of use. After i got my replacement, I thought the card was good and I didn't have to return it but same issues started to happen after using this card again for more than 2 hours. I felt like they sent me faulty cards on purpose or they don't test their graphics cards because twice in a row I got faulty cards from this manufacturer. I had such a massive headache from this card from this manufacturer. I tried to play devils advocate and gave XFX a chance to to redeem themselves by giving me a replacement gpu and that even didn't worked. I will never buy from this manufacturer ever again because I never had this issue with other gpu makers but this one I have to deal with constant crashing of my drivers and computer but when I use my other gpu's I have no issues. This manufacture made me lost trust in AMD because even though 150 bucks isn't a lot to most people, it means a lot to me because my family lives pay check to pay check and it's hard to save up that kind of money and for the product that I paid for to die on me in less than 2 weeks is absurd. Please note (RX 570): In spite of the bad review by a few customers, we experience no such issues (not saying you won't) but We would comfortably recommend this product for mining cryptocurrency based on our testing that we will be continuing below. Hashrate on different algorithms, algorithm calculator - RX 570 It makes no sense to mine bitcoins and other currencies, the SHA-256 algorithm on the RX 570. No GPU comes close to the performance of an ASIC . In general, AMD video cards are so far the most profitable mining devices compared to Nvidia for the same money. Specification - AMD Radeon RX 570 The RX 570 with factory settings will be able to mine coins at this speed: AlgorithmHashrateConsumptionEthhash17 Mh / s120 wattsEthash4GB29-30 MH / s120 wattsZhash19 H/s100 wattsKawPow13 MH / s150 wattsCNHeavy640 H/s110 wattsBeamhash14 H/s120 wattsAion85 H/s100 wattsNeoScrypt700 Kh / s140 wattsBCD7.3 Mh / s110 wattsTimeTravel108.0 Mh / s115 wattsX16R5 Mh / s100 wattsLyra2Z0.42 Mh / s110 wattsHex2.1 Mh / s85 wattsProgPow6.7 Mh / s130 wattsX22i3.4 Mh / s110 watts These values show that mining Ethereum, Ravencoin. Haven. Ethereum Classic and other coins will provide good profits. To figure out what the cards are capable of, you can find out how they manifest themselves on various algorithms. Mining Ethereum The Ethereum dag file has already crossed the 4GB mark, so there can be no question of a speed of 30 megahash for a four-gigabyte. On Linux, after long dances with a tambourine, at best you will get 17 Mh / s, and an inexperienced miner will get no more than 11 Mh / s. It makes sense to get Ether on Windows on four gigabytes, only in the hope of a future colossal increase in value. On cards with 8 GB of video memory, it is now necessary to mine Ether, it brings tangible profit. From one card you will take "clean" about 150 rubles per day. The indicator was calculated at the time of publication, the exact profitability can be calculated on the Whattomine website . Regarding the double mining popular in the past, it should be said that it has long been out of date. True, there is ETH + Zill, but this is still not dual mining in its purest form. You just take a little distraction from Ether in order to serve the zilik, since in this network miners are required only periodically. Ethash4GB This category includes both the modernized ETC algorithm and all other alts running on regular Ethash. Compared to big Ether, the profit is less. In addition to the classic in the current period on Ethash4GB, gpu miners have nothing to mine. The four-geek ASIKI Innosilicon works here. Mining Rawencoin After changing the algorithm, the ravens also changed their color. Previously, this coin was mined on green cards, now more on red ones. The coin is profitable, but very fry at cards. In winter, nothing else, but in summer, no additional cooling is possible. Mining Zcash This algorithm has long been under the control of ASICS miners . So mining Zcash doesn't make sense.  It is worth paying attention to lesser-known coins only if we are talking about dual mining, which the video card can handle without any problems. How to flash RX 570 for mining How to flash RX 570 for mining The RX 570 firmware for mining is an important procedure. Without this, it is impossible to achieve the highest hash rate. Any miner can flash a Bios 570 video card, based on the instructions. The correct RX 570 firmware for mining can be a turning point in the mining of coins, which will affect profits and allow you to make more money. Stock firmwares for cards can be found on specialized sites and forums for miners Techpowerup. You can find the timings yourself, for example, here: https://forum.bits.media/index.php?/topic/38510-eth. The SRBPolarisV3 program is ideal for editing the BIOS, the download link is https://mega.nz/#F!TVgGHQZS!yfmtIvbF67iS4QrEJqb26g. If the video card has Samsung memory installed, then we change the timings from 1750 and higher, and from 1500 and higher for other versions. It is worth paying attention to the compliance of the program with the maximum characteristics of the equipment in order to get rid of the overclocking of the video card after overclocking. It is recommended to leave 5% of the total performance unused so as not to damage the device. Read the full article

SEO Audits and Tools: The Good, The Better and The Best
SEO Audits and Tools: The Good, The Better and The Best was originally published on BruceClay.com, home of expert search engine optimization tips.
“SEO audits” can mean different things to different people.
In general, an SEO website audit identifies issues that hinder a site’s ability to be found in search results and recommends changes to fix those issues.
The end goal of a technical SEO audit? To help you improve the site’s search visibility and bring in more organic traffic.
But the approach to SEO audits varies across practitioners and agencies. Which approach fits you best depends on many factors.
TL;DR: Three levels of SEO audits exist. They all aim to uncover ways to improve a website’s visibility in search. From free tools to an expert’s analysis, all audit types have their place. This article lists five auditing tools, explains the different approaches, and clarifies what you can expect to pay and to get from each level of SEO audit.
The 3 Levels of SEO Audits
Three levels of technical SEO audits exist today:
The “Good” SEO Audit: A software tool uncovers superficial SEO issues (many of which may be useful). The tool produces a one-size-fits-all generic report. Appropriate for when you don’t have an auditing budget, or you want to check some basics yourself before starting with an agency. Never a waste, but not a deep dive.
The “Better” SEO Audit: An SEO vendor or practitioner offers additional SEO insights but without many solutions. They can identify problems that data analytics alone can’t uncover. Without in-depth solutions, this only points to possible trouble areas, but sometimes that is all you need.
The “Best” SEO Audit: An SEO agency performs an in-depth technical audit. It requires the labor and expertise of a seasoned SEO analyst(s) who specializes in technical website analysis and SEO business strategy. This is a manual review supported by tools, and it takes many hours.
Of course, you may have different names for each of these levels of audits. Each serves a purpose.
However, when all three levels come together in one powerful and “best” SEO audit, you gain a solid understanding of where your website is today, where it can be tomorrow, and what needs to be done to get it there.
Let’s look at these three levels in detail, starting with the “good.”
The “Good” SEO Audit
Let’s start with the most basic SEO audit.
Mostly automated, this type of SEO audit uses a software tool. The software examines your website against a set of SEO factors and generates a list of things to fix.
Most often, businesses themselves use these tools to do simple self-audits. But this type of audit tends to be superficial.
What’s lacking here is the knowledge behind the recommendations. You might receive a brief explanation, but understanding the “why” behind the suggestion can be unclear.
Add to that the fact that every business and website is unique. The tool may say “X” is a problem — but is it really a problem for your site’s situation? And how much priority should you give to it?
The “best” SEO audit’s power lies in its expert analysis and strategic recommendations. Click To Tweet
For example, if you’re seeing a traffic loss, a tool-generated report offers no understanding of why. Is there a search engine penalty involved? Could projects that your team is running, like a redesign, be affecting rankings?
The self-audit tool doesn’t take into consideration any number of important things that could be impacting your SEO.
Still, it does serve the purpose of a quick-and-dirty website review. And you can send the recommendations to your developer team to make quick fixes.
Software tools generally contribute to any SEO audit procedure, though the more comprehensive audits give much more insight.
SEO Audit Tools I Recommend
Below I’ve listed five software products I like for SEO audit work. They have both free and paid versions, so the price can range from $0 to several hundred dollars per month for a tool subscription.
1. Nibbler (My Favorite) Nibbler is my preferred auditing tool. It looks at everything from on-page factors to back-end considerations, breadth of content, mobile factors, freshness and more.
1. Nibbler report example
Nibbler’s free version limits you to three reports for five webpages per test. But it offers a paid version that opens up the report to 100-plus pages. This more comprehensive reporting comes in between $50 and $120 per month.
2. SEO-Detective SEO-Detective is a free tool that analyzes a site one webpage at a time against more than 20 factors, including Alexa rank, server information, keywords and more.
2. SEO-detective sample report
3. SEOptimer SEOptimer audit data is available in multiple languages and covers everything from on-page SEO factors to usability and accessibility. It prides itself on speed (being able to analyze a site in 30 seconds or less), and allows users to customize and white label reports.
3. SEOptimer tool screenshot
Paid plans for SEOptimer run from $29 to $59 per month, and you can run a report for free and download the data when you sign up for a 14-day free trial.
4. UpCity UpCity offers an SEO “report card” that covers things like ranking and on-site analysis including links, trust metrics and accessibility.
4. UpCity’s sample report
The report card is a free feature. It’s wrapped into their paid SEO software aimed at agencies at $150 to $800 per month.
5. WebPageTest.org WebPageTest is a free tool that is useful for verifying or identifying speed issues.
5. WebPageTest.org screen shot
As you can see, these five SEO auditing tools cover many best-practice SEO tactics. After accessing the data, you should make recommended changes where it makes sense for your website.
The downside is that these tools do not listen to your business and website problems, nor do they dive deeper into the data. That is the next level of auditing that I will cover.
In an SEO audit, the human insights piece makes a great difference if you want to understand major SEO issues impacting the site. Click To Tweet The “Better” SEO Audit
Level 2 SEO audits are better because they typically involve an SEO vendor or SEO practitioner.
The vendor or practitioner will likely use a software tool such as those I outlined in the previous section. In addition, they can:
Listen to you and learn about your business situation, goals, and past SEO decisions that may be impacting your website.
Analyze your Google Analytics and Google Search Console data for more insights.
Manually identify SEO issues that are below the surface and not easily recognizable by a tool.
This deeper dive can often result in problem identification, sometimes very quickly. You’ll receive important explanations of what’s behind the data uncovered in analytics and auditing tools.
What to Expect from a Level 2 Audit
Some of the things an audit like this may discover are:
Your content is not good enough. Software can only do so much to analyze content (for example, word count or reading score). A human can compare your website content to your competitors’ pages that are ranking in the search results. Such an evaluation can pinpoint where you have room for improvement.
Your website design is bad. A software tool won’t be able to tell you that you have an ugly, hard-to-navigate website. It won’t notice that you have a bunch of junk code that’s preventing search engine spiders from doing their job. Having expert eyes on the overall development and design to identify SEO problems is key.
Your inbound link profile is poisoned. There are many reasons why a link profile can go bad. A website that has been around for a while has probably had multiple webmasters. During that time, the rules of SEO may have changed, or those responsible may not have understood Google guidelines. Whatever the reason, it’s the SEO auditor’s job to interpret potential spam issues hurting the site.
Your server is way too slow. Google cares about how long it takes to get information from your webpage, and says it should display in 200 milliseconds or less. An older study found a correlation between an increased “time to first byte” and decreased search rankings.
To clarify, a tool can certainly check page load time. But is the reported load time normal among your competitors? And have you lost traffic due to delays? An audit tool cannot tell you the answers. But they’re crucial to deciding how to prioritize your slowness issues.
In a Level 2 SEO audit, the human insights piece makes a great difference if you want to understand major SEO issues impacting the site.
If you engage with an SEO vendor, know that the price varies greatly depending upon the issue prompting the audit, site complexity, and the size of the agency’s SEO checklist.
Here’s the rub: Most audits at this level are little more than a problem list without solutions. Those fixes are yours to research.
Normally, a reasonable “better” audit by a professional as described here ranges from $3,000 to $12,000 (USD). This covers a one-time review; afterwards, the engagement is typically over. You can compare this against the cost and the need to employ an SEO analyst in-house.
At the end of the day, all three levels of SEO audits can be useful. Something is better than nothing. Click To Tweet The “Best” SEO Audit
Each level of audit has its place based on a business’s needs and budget. Luckily, you have options.
At the “best” auditing level, you engage with an SEO vendor that has explicit knowledge of how to perform a thorough technical and strategic SEO website audit. You want to choose an agency that makes audits a core business specialty and has enough hours available to do it (up to 100 hours or more).
Commonly, a Level 3 audit takes advantage of the kinds of tools I’ve mentioned for the other levels. Tools improve the process. But the “best” SEO audit’s power lies in its expert analysis and strategic recommendations.
What to Expect from the Best SEO Audit
A technical SEO audit at this level uncovers everything in the first two levels of auditing, plus it delivers the following:
Expert knowledge. The most comprehensive audit means you’re working with a senior SEO analyst with many years of experience versus a junior analyst doing a more “by-the-book” review. The senior analyst will be apprised of any algorithm changes (known or suspected) as well that may be impacting the site.
Competitive research. The auditor makes a comprehensive review of not only your website, but also competitor websites. This will help create a strategic roadmap of how to compete in the search results based on those that are ranking already.
New opportunities. The audit will include in-depth keyword analysis that will expose new opportunities for search visibility based on a business’s goals. This can be paired with a new SEO-friendly site architecture that works to improve a website’s authority through the structure of its content.
Prioritization & guidance. The auditor will not only identify the problem and describe exactly why it’s important based on Google’s guidelines, but also explain how to resolve it. You should receive in-depth instructions on how to implement solutions, complete with a priority list of what to tackle first.
You can expect an SEO vendor at this level to spend a lot of time researching and analyzing – sometimes over 100 hours depending on the website – in order be as thorough as necessary.
At that level of labor, these audits often start at $20,000 and can exceed $50,000 for very large ecommerce sites. (Side note: You can learn more about the cost of SEO and what goes into the price tags.)
Summary
Our search marketing agency mostly does the “best” audits; we also run many auditing tools and tasks internally over the course of every project. Let us know if we can help your business.
At the end of the day, all three levels of SEO audits can be useful. In other words, something is better than nothing.
If you’re deciding which type will work best for you, consider these factors:
The age and complexity of your website
Problems you’re experiencing, such as severe traffic loss
Your budget
Projects on the horizon (for example, a site redesign), and more.
In all cases, expect to make improvements to your site following an SEO audit.
Bottom line: Making the right changes uncovered in a technical SEO audit WILL help you compete in the search results.
I want to know: Have you ever had a “best” level of SEO audit, and what were your results? Tell me in the comments below.
