「 CUDDLING WITH BSD MEN PT 4/4 」
pairings: tecchou x reader ፥ jouno x reader ፥ tachihara x reader
tags: gender neutral reader, fluff, cuddling/phyiscal affection
warnings: talks of disabilities in jounos part
other parts: ada ᨒ port mafia ᨒ doa + the guild ᨒ the hunting dogs
a/n: tachiharas is short since I haven’t entirely figured him out, I hope that’s okay!
Tumblr media
// tecchou suehiro ⌇˚.༄
Tumblr media
⮑ He promised you to always take care of you and he means it.
⮑ He pulls you into a hug by grabbing the back of your head and leading you into his arms. Sometimes he will even tuck your face into his neck. Honestly you could melt into his arms, he’s just that comfortable and safe. Don’t think too hard on it though, we all know he’s muscular—.
⮑ He has designated cuddles based on your mood, I’m dead serious. He is very observant and came to the opinion cuddle positions are based on moods. He’s surprisingly not wrong. If you have aches he will hold you close which rubbing/massaging the area. He is the definition of attentive.
⮑ He doesn’t see the appeal of pda but he doesn’t mind it either. If you’re the type to do pda then okay, if not that’s also okay. As long as it’s not flashy pda in front of his co workers.
⮑ His cuddles never fail, he’s always comfortable no matter what. Honestly I’d like to compare him to a security blanket. I’d love to at least hug this man, at least once.
⮑ 10/10 cuddles, you always come first to him.
Tumblr media
// jouno saigiku ⌇˚.༄
Tumblr media
⮑ My poor baby with insane hypersensitivity. Good luck.
⮑ It’s canon that all of his senses are very heightened. I feel like too much touch could easily overwhelm him. He’s talked about being able to hear heartbeats and internal body movements. I think that being too close to someone can overwhelm him not just talking about him telling tecchou to stop breathing. If you did cuddle it cannot be in silence or he could get overwhelmed.
⮑ And I imagine touch is a similar amount of torture for him. He feels everything x10. Too much touch can be suffocating to him. I adore jouno and physical touch, I’d love to say he loves cuddles, but in all honesty as someone who has a normal amount of hyper sensitivity I genuinely think it could get too much for him.
⮑ When he can handle cuddling he’s always in control or the big spoon. He keeps the touching to a minimum usually, like holding hands. But if he notices you need more he will compromise and give it to you. Sometimes though he will give in and let you hold him instead. Though sadly it’s usually when he crashes badly.
⮑ It takes a while but he will adjust to being able to hold each other close, which is quite nice. However when he does get overwhelmed he can be a bit mean I’m sorry but it’s true.
⮑ 3/10, it’s rare and minimum or else he might lose it.

Tumblr media
⮑ I don’t really see him as much of a cuddler, especially when he’s under cover.
⮑ I don’t think he dislikes cuddling or physical affection, don’t get me wrong. I just don’t think it’s his style. Unless you tell him you enjoy it and would like to do it, he doesn’t do it much. And when he does, he’s such a guy about it.
⮑ He’s always a big spoon, I don’t see him being comfortable being a little spoon. Also this is very strange to say but he can act like such a sibling when cuddling you. Except when you or he needs it, then he takes it serious and is surprisingly gentle.
⮑ He does not like pda, he doesn’t understand the appeal and just doesn’t like it. When he’s with the port mafia he’s got an image to uphold, being in a relationship or at the least being affectionate is a big no. And with how much he gets teased by the other hunting dogs I’d say he tries his best not to get caught. It doesn’t always work though.
⮑ 3/10 cuddles, when you get your cuddles lol.

If it’s possible could you right bsd men with an s/o thats wayyy shorter than them ? Like not just a couple inches I’m talking like 4 feet (I’m saying this cause I’m 4’9 , and look like I’m 13) if Can be anyone you want! But someone I really want is chuuya , so if you want you could also just do him , to save you some time , or if you’re really tired (I wouldn’t wanna bug you) but if you can’t it’s okay as well! Hope you have a good day/night!
heights of love
Tumblr media
synopsis - how are they with a s/o that is drastically shorter than them
includes - kunikida, chuuya, tachihara, nikolai, tecchou
warnings - gn!reader, reader is very short(around 4'9), fluff, slight crack, wc - 505
a/n: hoping your having a good day/night aswell! fun fact im 5'7
Tumblr media
doppo kunikida ★↷
↪ kunikida knows he's tall and yet he doesn't care nor does he barely acknowledged it. he's roughly around 6'2 and obviously knows he's way taller than most but he never cares.
↪and so naturally there is a very noticeable and drastic height difference. he was a bit taken aback when he first met you about how small you were but he soon came to care very little.
↪he loves you for who you are and wouldn't stand a single person talking about your height.
chuuya nakahara ★
↪chuuya himself is quite short, around 5'2, he knows that and he doesn't quite appreciate certain comments on his height (dazai).
↪so he couldn't help imagine how many comments you received. although he did have to suppress the urge to tease you himself as it really wasn't everyday he met someone that much shorter than him.
↪but he would ultimately come to not care that much about your height. so what if you were quite shorter than him, he still loved you and if anything he'd fight anyone that dared disrespect your height.
michizō tachihara ★↷
↪ tachihara is roughly about average height. he's around 5'7 and he never really ever thinks about his height or how tall or small he is compared to some people.
↪the only person he reckons he's seen as short as you would be teruko, but then again she would be in her younger form. but he really didn't care about the height difference, if anything he thought it was rather sweet.
↪ he'd never openly comment on your height and the closest thing you would get to him emphasizing the difference would be if he was feeling rather joyous and would just pick you up for a hug.
nikolai gogol ★↷
↪nikolai knows he's tall and he takes pride in that. he's roughly around 6' and he does sometimes like to really emphasise the fact that he's tall.
↪and so he does think that it is quite funny with how short you are compared to him. there is a very noticeable height difference and he loves it, he takes every opportunity to tease you unless you really didn't like it.
↪sometimes he'd scare you by randomly picking you up from behind, regardless of wether you'd scold him afterwards. but if anyone else dared comment on your height? he wouldn't have that.
tecchou suehiro ★↷
↪ again, tecchou doesn't really care about his height. he knows he's tall, he's roughly around 6'0 but it's not really his top priority of thought around other people.
↪but when he met you, he really couldn't help but embarrassingly stare at how short you were. he really couldn't help it as the difference was extremely dramatic and he did feel bad afterwards.
↪ standing next to you only emphasised this but he didn't care. he wouldn't admit it, but he did think you were quite adorable with how short you were. and sometimes he really had the urge to just pick you up.
Tumblr media
just for a small reference in terms of height differences in cm!
4'9 = 144cm
kunikida - 6'2 = 189cm
chuuya - 5'2 = 160cm
tachihara - 5'7 = 176cm
nikolai - 6' = 184cm
tecchou - 6' = 184cm

Note
I know that this could be kinda imposible, being in the bsd universe, but imagine s/o has parents, can i request hunting dogs meeting their inlaws?
MEETING THE INLAWS
Jouno, Tachihara, Tecchou
I thoroughly enjoyed writing this lol. Fem! Reader
cw: just the boys embarrassing you (both intentionally and unintentionally)
Tumblr media
775 words
When you told Jouno your parents would like to meet him, he had no objections at all
You had to make him pinky promise that he wouldn’t do anything to embarrass you because he had a really bad habit of doing that, he enjoys seeing you all flustered and embarrassed
He greets your parents normally with a handshake and a warm smile which makes you hopeful that everything would go smoothly
Spoiler it doesn’t
He’s comfortably sitting on the couch next to your mother as he rambles on about every single embarrassing thing you’ve done
Your mother on the other hand is doing the same thing except only telling stories of when you were younger
It’s as if both of them had a vendetta against your or something
“Mom please stop..”, you drawled out the last word of your sentence as you attempted to drag Jouno off the couch and out the door.
You two had stayed long enough and you were tired.
“Actually that reminds me of another time Y/n wasn’t looking where she was going”, Jouno remarked.
You knew what he was gonna say cause he always brought it up 25/8
You glared at him. “Don’t you dare!”.
“It was on a cold Winter’s day that—”, you placed your hands over his mouth, telling him to shush.
Your mother only laughed.
She didn’t need to know that when you two were walking idly one day that you were on your phone and weren’t looking in front of you which ended up with you bumping your head against a sign pole and a big bump on your forehead which Jouno laughed hysterically at every morning he saw it.
He did try to warn you but you were too immersed in your phone.
Your mother didn’t need to know that though.
Tumblr media
Tachihara is seen as a quite confident person but upon mentioning your parents wanting to meet him, he’s a nervous wreck at first but eventually he’ll calm down
He just wants to live up to the expectations your parents had for him cause if they didn’t approve of him, he wouldn’t know what to do with himself
His words are endearing
He promises them that he’ll take good care of you and that he’ll never make you cry
He’s very tense until you place a reassuring hand on his
“I would do absolutely anything for your daughter!”
If for some reason your parents didn’t approve of him best believe he’d get on his hands and knees and literally plead
“You’ll be fine, they don’t bite”, you patted Tachihara on the shoulder.
“I dunno. I’d say they would if worse comes to worst”, he began wringing his hands.
When you noticed this, you took on of his hands in between your own and placed a kiss on his knuckles, resulting in a light shade of pink coating the apples of his cheek.
“You haven’t even met them yet, how would you know?? Just calm down alright?”.
As expected, your actions and words were able to calm him down.
Tachihara was polite throughout and had his way with words. So much so that your parents immediately took a liking to him.
“See? All your worrying was for nothing!”.
He was smiling like an idiot all the way home.
Tumblr media
Tecchou is very formal about it
Like boy’s on his knees and everything
He ends up saying a lot of things that embarrass you but he doesn’t do it intentionally, he trying alright!
He firmly believes that all his respect should go to your parents since they were the ones who created you (his words not mine)
Tecchou immediately sat on his two knees and bowed his head.
Your parents blinked at you but you only avoided their confused gazes and put a hand over your face. You knew you should’ve warned him before leaving home..
“Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. L/n”.
Your parents were reluctant to as but “For..what?”.
Techhou raised his head and placed a hand on his chest. “For creating such an amazing woman like Y/n. I’m forever grateful”.
That was your queue to butt-in cause if you didn’t, who knows what words would come out of his mouth next.
“Woah would you look at the time! We have to go”, you chuckled haphazardly, pulling Tecchou behind you.
“Go where Y/n? It’s eight pm—”.
“Shh!”.
Despite the fact Tecchou was a bit over the top sometimes, you still found it a bit endearing.
Masterlist :)

What kind of interaction would the reader have with the hunting dogs? (Mainly teruko, tecchou, and jouno) how would they treat the reader?
Btw I love your posts so much and you can probably tell because I reblog all your posts with a heart emoji.
I adore the hunting dogs and the thought of them being self aware is very cool.
💕🩷💗💝💖💓💞
Thank you for your kind words. I am glad, that you really like my ideas 🥰
Hunting Dogs will get full entries later. But, for now, I can share some Ideas with you.
Self-Aware! Hunting Dogs x GN!Reader
Headcannons
Warning: OOC. Yandere. Stalking. Mentions of harming other people. English is my second language.
General
🐾 Hunting Dogs never thought they were fictional characters.
🐾 And Hunting Dogs never thought, that after the moment they arrived at the scene to pursue after ADA, there would be not only all ADA members, but also Port Mafia, The Guild and some other people.
🐾 Fukichi also wasn't expecting, that Chief Taneda will be okay and will claps his hand with "Alright, the last horses have arrived. To the Office. Or, maybe, you should take a walk through the important for the next scene locations?"
Michizou Tachihara
Tumblr media
🩹 🧲 Became Self-aware earlier, than other Hunting Dogs. Has been known about you ever since Fukuzawa and Mori decide to create an ADA/Port Mafia union.
🩹🧲 Despite only hearing some of your words and not hearing full sentences from you, can see Little Light floating above them.
🩹🧲 During the "chase" after ADA, give his colleagues a briefing. About you, about union, about plot, about Little Light.
🩹🧲 Will try his best to make other Hunting Dogs like you.
🩹🧲 Cares about you. Want others Hunting Dogs to protect you together with him.
🩹🧲 Want to become one of your bodyguards. Or helper, because he is sure, that his ability will come in handy.
Saigiku Jouno
Tumblr media
💧 Can feel the Little Light's presence after the first moment he woke up.
💧 His senses are sharper, than everyone's. Can hear you clearly from the first moment. He can hear your heartbeat.
💧 Immediately knew that you aren't tricking them, and your emotions are real.
💧 After hearing, what you think about his past and new way of live, will become your guardian. Very protective.
💧 Will be listening, when you're talking with someone. He's making sure, that you are bot been tricked. Have a hit list of whom he will punish for wronging you.
💧 Likes listening to your playlist. Also likes audiobooks.
__________
Jouno was listening. You, Little Guiding Light, were talking to your 'friend'... You consider this person your friend. But Jouno knew, that he is lying to you. He doesn't care about you.
But don't worry. Soon... very soon, they will be in your world.
He will protect you. And all this people, who wronged you... Well, he will show them, what it means to be a Hunting Dog.
____________
Tecchou Suehiro
Tumblr media
🌸 Tecchou is more hesitant into trusting you. He believes in Tachihara's and Jouno's words. But, he still will be on his guard, until he is 100% sure you are good.
🌸 It won't take long for him to trust you. Many people trust you already. Besides, he will also listen to your conversations with your friends and other people. Will look at your messages.
🌸 Want to carry you on his shoulders. Just because he can.
🌸 Another protective one. But, unlike Jouno, will use his words in dealing with people who wronged you. And will blackmail them.
🌸 Likes to watch documentaries with you. Because of that, he became buddies with Kenji.
🌸 Training every day. To make sure, that he will be one of the best of your bodyguards. For him, every bad things people do to you, are the worst crime. And he will bring you justice.
_____________
Tecchou was observing. He was looking at the messages, your friend left you. This person, once again, were passive-aggressive towards you.
Well, another one to put on back on their place.
Injustice must be punished. You must be protected.
________________
Teruko Okura
Tumblr media
👶🧒🧓 While she is incredibly loyal to Fukuchi, she has her own free will. Will be a little bit taken aback by Fukuchi's dislike towards you. You are a simple civilian, right? Shouldn't Hunting Dogs protect civilians or, at least, be neutral towards them.
👶🧒🧓 It will take her some time, but, at the end, she will like you. It's hard not to like someone, who in fond of you.
👶🧒🧓 Another one, who is keeping an eye on you. She and Jouno will be the worst duo for your enemies. They will have to deal with two overprotective sadists.
👶🧒🧓 If you are willing, will help you with training. But not too much. Because she thinks, she would love to be your bodyguard.
👶🧒🧓 Likes watching sport competitions, either with you, or by herself. Try to learn more about how strong people in real world.
👶🧒🧓 She is a warrior. A ruthless one. She would do anything she can to protect you.
____________
Teruko's eyes glimmed with dangerous light.
She heard you been upset by a scammer, who didn't want to give you your money back for the damaged figurine.
Well, she wonders, it would be interesting to see, how this person will feel, when he will become a child again.
She is a solder. And she will do anything to protect you.
__________
Fukuchi Ouchi
Tumblr media
⚔️ Let's just say, unknowingly, you have challenge Fukuchi's authority. And you won. Also, you have destroyed his plan.
⚔️ What is the point of his plan, if there are no people out there? One Order doesn't exist, others characters are broke from the chains of plot and have a way to read manga with you. Oh, and other DOA members likes you and don't want to harm you.
⚔️ Moreover, he has nowhere to go. Everything is empty. So, he has no other way, but to stay with others. Doesn't hide his dislike towards you. Oh, great, Hunting Dogs now also don't want to listen to him.
⚔️ Will change his attitude towards you, after hearing your talking for a few times. Also, by finding more information about your world. He won't be against staying in your world. So he and other Hunting Dogs will protect you.
⚔️ Now, he just had to prove others, that he can be trusted. He doesn't want to hurt you. He, as all of them, want only the best for you.
⚔️ At the end, all Hunting Dogs will become your elite bodyguards.

“Jouno? Are you in here?”
Tecchou pokes his head into the restroom, and at first, he’s only met with an echo. Normally, that would be enough evidence for him to continue his search for his colleague elsewhere, but he’s spent the past half hour looking around their headquarters for him with no luck.
So he decides to hang around for just a few more seconds. He knows he can’t outsmart Jouno. If he is in here, he’ll know Tecchou hasn’t left, and he can’t fake footsteps in the other direction, either.
Tecchou leans against the wall in the hallway entrance to the restroom and waits.
“You really piss me off,” the voice finally says. Hoarse and generally sounding unwell. Tecchou had a feeling something wasn’t right with him. He’s been much less hostile today. Honestly, he thinks this is the first rude comment he’s gotten from him all morning. “Don’t you have better things to do than to stalk me, Tecchou?”
Tecchou almost tells him that no, he actually doesn’t have anything better to do, but before he can, he hears Jouno retch so hard that it sounds painful. Tecchou tenses up at the sound of it, and almost expects more comments to follow, but he just ends up breathing heavily for the next few seconds before Tecchou walks further into the bathroom, quickly locating the stall that Jouno is curled up in. His cape and hat are on the floor near the entrance, like he was in a rush to take them off.
“Are you sick?” Tecchou asks, tilting his head at the door.
“Get out of here before I make you leave, Tecchou,” Jouno grumbles, his voice trembling and softer than before, but the threat he’s making is very real.
“I was just asking,” Tecchou defends with a pout. Jouno seems to think Tecchou has some ulterior motives to being a decent human being sometimes. He really doesn’t. He just wants to know what’s going on. “You sound sick.”
“I’m not sick. Go mind your own business,” Jouno huffs. Tecchou sees him shift under the door.
“Did you not just -”
“It’s a headache. And you’re making it worse. So get. Out,” Jouno hisses, injecting far more venom into his tone with that than anything else he’s said today so far.
It’s all starting to make a lot more sense.
Tecchou isn’t sure he would call them simple headaches. What Jouno suffers from must be something closer to migraines, because they really severely debilitate him. Throwing up like this isn’t uncommon for him at all, and voices or sounds of any kind seem to make him feel much, much worse because of those heightened senses he has.
Tecchou understands what he needs to do. Fix everything on the outside, and then go help Jouno.
“I’ll be right back,” Tecchou says, as quietly as he can muster, because he knows Jouno will hear him regardless. He hears Jouno grumble something back, but Tecchou’s already on his way out of the restroom.
Thankfully, he catches sight of another Hunting Dog just as soon as he turns the corner. Tachihara’s a bit late as usual, but on time for him, considering his infiltration job. They had a meeting earlier this morning, and Jouno was the one who offered to pass along that information to Tachihara.
"Tachihara."
"Uh…yeah, Tecchou? What's up?" Tachihara says, looking a bit on edge. Tecchou isn’t sure why. Maybe he should have given him a normal greeting first, but Jouno is his priority right now.
"Tell Fukuchi that Jouno won't be able to finish today. He doesn't feel well," Tecchou says.
"Oh, is…is he okay?" Tachihara asks, his tense expression softening a bit.
“He has a bad headache,” Tecchou explains. He’s almost certain that Jouno can hear him and he’s almost expecting Jouno to suddenly appear between the two of them with a sword jabbed in Tecchou’s foot, but he never does. “Ask Fukuchi or Teruko to relay the information you missed this morning.”
“Oh - yeah, okay,” Tachihara nods. He doesn’t leave right away, interestingly enough. He looks like he wants to, but he stops, and eyes Tecchou again. “Is there - can I do something to help? Should I get one of the nurses?”
“I don’t think that will be necessary,” Tecchou says. He briefly considered that, but Jouno hates receiving medical treatment of any kind. He always says he simply doesn’t need it, but he thinks it’s a very overwhelming process for him.
That’s the worst part of the headaches, Tecchou thinks. Jouno’s senses are so enhanced, and headaches would cause a person with standard senses enough pain as it is, but it’s so much worse for Jouno. He’s able to keep his head high most of the time, but Tecchou knows that everyone has a breaking point, and he’s hit it already. Tecchou thinks he knows what he can do.
“Can you ask the receptionists to clear the top two floors?” Tecchou asks. It’s a reasonable request, he thinks, but Tachihara’s eyes go wide.
“Clear them? Like, everybody out?” Tachihara asks. Tecchou nods back at him. The top two floors aren’t too densely populated, most of the people working up there have the ability to relocate to lower offices, he’s sure.
“That way I can take him up there and he can rest properly,” Tecchou explains. Tachihara seems to be figuring out the reason himself - Jouno wouldn’t be able to rest properly with a headache when there are people around, even on the floor below him. Tachihara is on his way soon enough, albeit hesitantly, and with him informing the rest of the team, all Tecchou needs to do now is get Jouno upstairs.
He walks back into the restrooms, as quietly as he can, but he’s sure in the end it makes no difference to Jouno. He’s quiet again for a few moments, focusing on Jouno’s heavy breathing. One breath ends in a pained groan before he decides to speak again.
“I can just go home, you know,” Jouno mumbles. Tecchou had considered that, but he’s sure it’s more of a last resort option than preferred - Jouno gets terrible motion sickness, and he doesn’t live close to their headquarters at all. That drive would just make him so much more miserable.
Tecchou brandishes his blade and extends it to travel over the door and unlock the stall with ease before placing it back in its sheath. He opens the door, which, to his surprise, makes an awful, high-pitched squeak, even loud for himself - Jouno, who has tucked himself in between the wall and the toilet, brings his hands up to his ears and almost whimpers. Tecchou isn’t used to hearing sounds like that from him.
“I’ll make sure they fix that,” Tecchou says in a whisper as he kneels down in front of Jouno. He studies his face for a moment. He’s incredibly pale, something he’d already taken note of earlier. There’s so much tension around his eyes, his face is so twisted up from the pain he’s feeling.
“I don’t get you,” Jouno barely manages. It almost sounds like he’s about to start crying, with the way his voice breaks at the end there.
Tecchou doesn’t entertain his taunts.
“Let’s go upstairs,” Tecchou says, reaching his hand out to graze Jouno’s as an offer to help him up, but Jouno only uses that hand to swat him away.
“I don’t need your help. Go find something better to do. Watch some ants or something,” Jouno groans as he uses the bar on the wall to help himself stand, but the way his legs are shaking is proof enough that he won’t make it very far. Tecchou lets him try, though, maybe he’ll prove him wrong - he backs up as Jouno leaves the stall, and he briefly slides in to flush the toilet. He’s concerned with how little he's actually thrown up. His guess is that he’s been dealing with this all morning and hasn’t eaten anything as a result.
Tecchou wishes he had noticed sooner. Jouno’s very good at hiding when he’s in pain.
Jouno kneels down to pick up his hat and cape with a shaky hand, but Tecchou’s faster than him, he takes both off of the floor and starts to neatly fold the cape. Jouno has this way of glaring at Tecchou without using his eyes. Scary.
“At least let me do this,” Tecchou says.
“You’ve done enough already. Stop bothering me,” Jouno grumbles as he tries to stand himself up, but evidently, he does it far too quickly - his expression relaxes and Tecchou thinks he’s fainted, just for a second, so he takes his arm into a firm grip to steady him.
“Are you alright?” Tecchou asks. Jouno hasn’t completely gone limp, he’s still standing against Tecchou, so thankfully he didn’t completely pass out. “Did you stand too fast?”
“Just take me upstairs,” Jouno mumbles, and Tecchou does as he’s asked. That was his plan anyway, he’s just glad Jouno has realized he can’t fight him on it anymore. Tecchou lays the back of his wrist over Jouno’s forehead just to make sure he isn’t running a temperature. It’s warm, but not any warmer than it should be.
The elevator is just down the hallway, but Tecchou doesn’t rush him. He has Jouno’s arm securely hooked within his. He’s slower than normal. He must still be in pain. Tecchou wonders if the act of walking is what’s painful, and for a second, he thinks about carrying him there instead.
“I’m not letting you carry me here,” Jouno huffs as they make it to the elevator. Tecchou presses the button. Tecchou doesn’t think Jouno can actually read minds. He’s just really good at making assumptions.
“Here? So you’d let me do it elsewhere?” Tecchou asks, purely out of curiosity, before they enter the elevator.
Jouno groans. “I really can't stand you, Tecchou."
That's not a no.
Once they’re inside, Jouno inadvertently answers Tecchou’s question and lays his head on Tecchou’s shoulder with a quiet, shaky sigh. He wraps his other arm around Tecchou’s for just a second before the elevator slows to their floor, and he slides his arm out as the doors open. Tecchou could feel his cheeks getting warm.
Tecchou still walks with him down to the end of the hallway. There’s a room with bunk beds they often use to rest in case they can’t go home for any reason. Tecchou wonders why he didn’t go here in the first place, so he could at least lay down - maybe he really couldn’t make it there by himself.
Jouno breaks off from him once they make it inside the room. He lays Jouno’s hat and cape on the desk as Jouno takes off his boots and crawls into the bed, not caring to remove the rest of his uniform. Tecchou doesn’t blame him. He takes off his own hat and cape before he disappears to the adjacent kitchenette to take something from the freezer.
Once he’s back in the room with Jouno, he shuts the lights off and sits at the edge of the bed, silent for a moment, just in case Jouno has already miraculously fallen asleep.
“Tecchou, please,” Jouno murmurs.
“This should help. Try it,” Tecchou says.
Jouno turns over to face Tecchou. “I’m not trying anything you’ve made -”
“It’s not edible. It’s an ice pack. You should put it on the back of your neck, it should help your headache,” Tecchou tells him, as convincing as he can sound. He hasn’t personally tried this, but he’s gotten icepacks for this purpose at Fukuchi’s request before.
Jouno almost looks like he’s about to turn back around, but Tecchou decides he’s just going to gently slide a hand under Jouno’s head to place the ice pack under his neck. Jouno, surprisingly, sinks into it without any fight back from Tecchou.
Jouno sighs and lays a hand over his forehead with a heavy sigh.
“I can’t believe you told Tachihara to evacuate the top two floors,” Jouno mumbles.
“Did he?” Tecchou asks. He didn’t think he could get it done that quickly, but Tachihara is very reliable when it comes to following orders.
“I don’t hear anyone.” Jouno confirms quietly. “Still, downstairs, but…it’s not nearly as loud.”
“Good,” Tecchou says. Even if that’s all that could be done, he’s glad they did it.
“It does feel a little better,” Jouno barely manages. Tecchou thinks he’s starting to get tired, which he believes must be a good sign. It’s not bothering him as much as before, he’s feeling okay enough to get tired. He didn’t think the ice pack would help that quickly, but maybe it’s a combination of everything. The quiet of the space, the comfort of the bed.
“I can get one for your forehead too,” Tecchou says.
“That’d...be good.”
Tecchou is swift in his strides back to the kitchenette to take another ice pack from the freezer, since even though it’s indirect, Jouno is finally accepting his help. He’s back at his side in no time at all to lay the ice pack on Jouno’s forehead. At first, he flinches at the sudden cold, but Tecchou watches his expression quickly relax. It’s good to know for the future that this is something that helps him.
“Do you have your cell phone on you?” Tecchou asks him. Jouno nods. “Okay. You can text me if you need something. I’ll be around.”
To his surprise, Jouno has nothing to say to that. He just grunts in acknowledgment, and with that, Tecchou stands up, and heads for the door.
Just before his hand touches the doorknob, he hears Jouno’s voice.
“Wait,” he murmurs. Tecchou freezes. “All of a sudden…you have something better to do?”
Tecchou lowers his hand. “No, not really.”
“Then stay,” Jouno says. This response is even more surprising than him saying nothing at all.
So, Tecchou does as Jouno asks of him. He takes off his boots and crawls onto the twin-sized mattress beside Jouno, who doesn’t make a single objection, no attempts to take back his request. Tecchou won’t lie, this is an opportunity he’ll gladly take after he didn’t get much sleep last night, but he’s sort of glad to be beside Jouno, too.
“You’re an idiot for going out of your way for me,” Jouno murmurs.
“It wasn’t out of my way,” Tecchou whispers. “I don’t want to see you miserable.”
Jouno huffs and turns his head, just enough to face Tecchou and to not move his ice packs too much. Tecchou turns so he’s laying on his side to face Jouno. His expression has relaxed considerably since the last time he studied his face like this.
Jouno’s hand reaches out to cradle the side of Tecchou’s face. He doesn’t say anything, but his hand is ice cold, just like his hands always are. Tecchou’s hands are often too warm for Jouno’s liking. Tecchou wonders sometimes if there’s any meaning behind that.
Tecchou lays his own hand on top of Jouno’s.
It’s not long before Jouno slides his hand away, and Tecchou wonders why he tried in the first place, up until Jouno catches Tecchou’s hand to squeeze it and lay between the two of them. It’s still so cold. Tecchou’s hands are bigger than Jouno’s, they’re rather dainty and delicate. Tecchou’s hand wraps around Jouno’s easily, and he squeezes it, just for a few moments before he relaxes again.
Tecchou wants to say something, but any ideas he has are dead on his tongue. Jouno is a very confusing person. One moment he’s yelling in Tecchou’s face and the next he’s lying beside him and squeezing his hand like his life depends on it. Tecchou’s cheeks get hot and pink like he’s embarrassed but he doesn’t know why.
“I like you too,” Jouno mumbles just as he starts to fall asleep.
Apparently, Jouno knows why.

A little bit of Ranpoe, now. They're not an item just yet, but maybe in the future?
Context: this is after Noé comes to Yokohama and joins Vanitas, and Naenia attacks the main groups. Naenia always made people afraid, and Ranpo isn't an exception.
"How's Chuuya doing?" That was the first thing Yosano asked Dazai when he finally returned to the Agency; after that Charlatan Naenia attacked them all, the only one that had been physically and *spiritually* harmed was Chuuya.
"He's actually doing a lot better, but he's staying at home for a little while longer," Dazai looked a lot better, he'd been actually eating and sleeping properly to encourage Chuuya to stay healthy, "Whatever that thing did led to one benefit: Arahabaki and Chuuya are both able to kinda switch places without hurting his body. Corruption is off the table in the meantime, of course. But it has been nice to have conversations with both of my boyfriends~"
Everyone looked relieved at that knowledge, but Ranpo was quiet. Dazai looked over and frowned- Ranpo's snacks lay on his desk uneaten, his glasses next to them, and his hat was hanging from his chair. His mismatched green and brown eyes were open, but barely. Dazai slowly walked up to him and leaned against his desk. Ranpo silently looked at him, showing the dark bags under his eyes. It wasn't any wonder.
Vanitas and Noé had warned everyone that Naenia attacked people psychologically, hurting everyone by using their pasts and memories against them, which she had easy access to since she attacked them in their dreams. It was already strange having a shared dream with multiple people, but it was horrible that they could all see each other's trauma.
Yosano was forced to see the countless soldiers she'd been forced to heal, though Tachihara had ended up being the one to pull her away when his brother appeared. Jouno's senses had been messed with so he was temporarily given back his sight, only to be met with an illusion of Tecchou dying in front of him- he'd kept up his aloof act until they woke up. Naturally Atsushi was forced to see his Headmaster, but Akutagawa had been right there, and he was no longer afraid of the version of Dazai that appeared to him.
Ranpo didn't actually think he had any inner demons to fight. He knew he wasn't Gifted, he knew his parents had died in an accident, and he knew that he wasn't alone in spite of the circumstances. So when Naenia had gently grabbed his face and cooed, *You poor fool. The World's Greatest Detective, unable to figure out why his parents were murdered. He doesn't even realise that it was ALL. HIS. FAULT.*
Those words had been echoing in his mind for the past two weeks. Fukuzawa could barely get him to eat, and he wouldn't sleep much. Part of him wanted to know the truth, but it was nearly 13 years ago, and what would even be the point? Realistically, if they were murdered and the culprit was still alive, would Ranpo want revenge? He didn't want to be that mindless that he'd lose himself. It made him sick to think about. Dazai just tilted his head, "You're not that kind of person."
"Ah. Right, you used to deal with situations like this." Dazai flinched at how hollow yet strained Ranpo's voice was. He turned to look at Dazai, "What do you suggest I do? My mind is fried, I can't even think. I need help, Dazai. Please."
"I don't believe Naenia's words. Nearly everything she said was a lie, like some kind of test. So, I have a rather outlandish theory." Ranpo frowned and looked up at Dazai, who's expression was a little strange, "What if... your parents are still alive somewhere?" Before Ranpo could debunk it, Dazai asked sharply: "Were your parent's bodies ever recovered from the car wreckage?"
"..." Ranpo sunk back in his seat, his eyes wide. *No*, there were apparently no bodies to recover. But the amount of damage done was horrible. Ranpo remembered overhearing the police mention that the only thing left was blood, and one severed arm which was later proved to have belonged to his father. His breathing went funny as his abruptly stood up, "I need to go see Minoura. I'll be back later."
He ran out of the room in a panic, and Vanitas looked at Dazai, "You gonna call Poe or am I?"
****
"I never thought you'd be coming to *me* for help! But don't you have any photos of your parents, kiddo?" Ranpo had thankfully caught Minoura on a quiet day, there wasn't much for the police to do other than catch up on paperwork. The Hunting Dogs were handling the major cases and the Agency were handling, unsurprisingly, all the work that needed to be handled by detectives. When Ranpo asked if there were any records and photos of his parents, since his father had also been an elite detective, Minoura was happy to help, though was saddened by Ranpo's response:
"When my parents... I was told that I had to leave my home. I could only take the bare minimum, and while I have a couple of photos, none of them have a clear visual on their faces, they're either obscured by something or have their eyes closed." In order for Eyes of God to locate someone, it needed a reference that was clear. Even Fyodor's image was known, despite how often he tried to make sure he wasn't seen on cameras.
Minoura took him to the records room to find any files that might lead him to some pictures, "If they're really alive, what are you gonna do? You're a grown man, but they're still your folks."
"If they're alive, I definitely wanna see them. Even if it's once. If it's more than once, then something I can't forget is that Fukuzawa is also my father now." Minoura blinked and Ranpo smiled, "He raised me, took care of me, helped me to find out how to cope with this world of Abilities and Gifted. My biological parents can't change the fact that Fukuzawa is also my parent, and the Agency are my family."
Minoura hummed and continued to look before pulling out a file, "Here you go. Should have a photo of your old man, possibly your ma as well." He handed Ranpo the file, and sure enough, there they were: a man who was rather short for his age, and a taller woman with bright green eyes. Aside from those, Ranpo realised he looked nothing like his mother. "Take those. Even if nothing..."
Minoura trailed off when he saw that Ranpo was shaking, and he'd started to cry. Minoura never had kids of his own, but he knew how to take care of younger people. He sighed and nodded to himself before gently leading Ranpo out and away. There was an ice cream parlour not too far from the station, and he knew what Ranpo would like already, so they sat and ate giant sundaes that suited their likings. It was a relief to see that he'd stopped crying, but he knew that Ranpo was nowhere near okay. Whatever had lead him to wanting to find his parents must've spooked him- he wasn't sure it would be appropriate to ask, so he didn't.
Ranpo sniffled and wiped his eyes, "I'll repay you for all of this. I still owe ya for everything you did when we were framed."
"Nah. Just make sure you get some sleep when you find out the truth, that'll be payment enough." He smiled then noticed something in Ranpo's eyes, "What's wrong?"
"...did... did you ever work with my dad..?"
"Ah. Should've seen that one comin'. Yeah, I did. We worked alongside another detective, Murase." He was a little surprised that Ranpo didn't already know, but then again, his mind was all over the place, "He was actually one of my best friends when I first started. Both of them had families, while I've never really felt comfortable being tied down. Though Murase had two awesome nephews, and your pa had you. I'm ashamed of the fact that I didn't recognise you when we first met."
"Don't be. I wouldn't have recognised you." Ranpo hiccuped in his state of being between crying and calm. Minoura didn't care in that moment that this was a grown ass man in front of him; he reached forward and ruffled his hair. Ranpo leaned into it, he felt comfortable with Minoura, knowing he'd never do anything that would make him afraid or disgusted.
Once the sundaes were eaten, Minoura drove Ranpo back to the Agency and he smirked at who was waiting outside the café beneath, "Looks like your *rival* is here."
Ranpo's face immediately lit up as he practically flew out of the car and straight to Poe, who was actually prepared this time as he caught Ranpo and hugged him tightly; Poe had also been a witness to the Parade, but he also didn't have many demons to face, so Naenia mostly overlooked him. That didn't sting as much as it used to, what had hurt him was what that creature had said to Ranpo. Karl was on his shoulders and chittered while nuzzling Ranpo's cheek. Poe held Ranpo close and murmured softly, "Are you alright?"
"Better now you're here, Ed." Ranpo sniffled then looked back at Minoura and waved, "Thank you for everything!!"
Minoura simply held up his thumb before driving off. Ranpo smiled weakly before going into the café with Poe. Usually they would sit in the Agency, but it was getting close to when Kunikida brings in a mountain of paperwork, so it wasn't wise to sit at his desk right now. Lucy saw them both and grinned, "Hey, boys. How's it going?"
"Ah, Miss Montgomery, it's good to see- *ow!*" Poe hissed as Lucy threw a spoon at his head, but thankfully he understood what she was pissed about, "Very well, *Lucy*. I apologise for not visiting sooner."
"As you should be! You're not working for the Guild anymore, so what gives?! Aren't you living in Yokohama like the rest of us?!" She put her hands on her hips, pouting- after Steinbeck took over the organisation in America, most relations went sour.
Fitzgerald was obviously settled with his new company, working on a way to help his wife break out of her reverie with Miss. Alcott, Lovecraft was... somewhere asleep in the ocean presumably, Mr. Melville was working with Special Operations alongside Miss. Mitchell with the promises of the Guild's better members being protected and that any money earned from jobs would go towards rebuilding the estate of Miss. Mitchell's family. Hawthorne was still trapped behind the door in Anne's Room, and Twain was apparently back in Yokohama to write his biography in peace while doing some mercenary jobs on the side for the Military Police.
Poe sighed, "It's true, that I'm not affiliated with the Guild anymore, but don't you forget that I'm still a talented author and architect. I'm making more money than I'll ever be able to spend in three lifetimes. Who do you think paid off Mr. Dazai's tab, or helped get some new furniture for the Agency?"
That explained a lot. Lucy just hummed and got them their favourite drinks without asking, or needing to be asked, then smiled at Poe, "You look happier, jokes aside."
"I feel happier. Like I belong, you know?" The Agency treated Poe well, he was still on good terms with Fitzgerald, but his companionship with Ranpo was the best thing in his opinion. He was still not the greatest with social situations, they made his breathing heavy and his stomach hurt, even the occasional rash would break out, but if Ranpo was beside him, there was no fear. He saw Ranpo smile at that and was thankful that most of his hair was obscuring his face, before clearing his throat and opening his laptop, "I paid Lord Francis a lot to use Eyes of God, so let's get this done, okay?"
Ranpo silently handed the photos to Poe, who used the laptop camera to scan the images and put them through the Eyes of God Network- they could now hack into every camera in Japan, which would do until Special Operations could see about getting them to see through every camera all over the world. It was just harder than envisioned because obviously some people wanted their privacy, and it was risky for those in the witness protection program. Poe hummed to himself while tapping on the laptop's keyboard, Karl eventually deciding to jump onto Ranpo's shoulders, snuggling into him.
It took a little longer than anticipated, but Poe lit up, "We have a match!"
"What." Ranpo sat up straight and listened: they were last seen yesterday, in Kyoto, where judging from where the cameras spotted them, that was where they were living. Ranpo immediately slid next to Poe, having originally been sat across from him in the other side of the table, and stared in shock. The people did indeed match the photos, and Eyes of God even registered that they had the family name of Edogawa. Dazai's theory wasn't so outlandish after all, as his parents were indeed very much *alive*.
****
Poe had ended up bringing Ranpo upstairs, half carrying him with Lucy, the two of them shouting for Fukuzawa to come and help! Ranpo had a blank stare, and was in a state of shock. Fukuzawa ran out to put his boy on the couch, while Dazai grabbed Yosano. Ranpo was okay, he was just stunned, though combined with his exhaustion, it meant that anything shocking was too much for his brain.
Fukuzawa looked at him, and watched Ranpo sob before holding him close, "At least this means you can see them again. But, I'd like you to get some sleep first."
"I wanna, but I can't. I've been struggling with insomnia since the Parade." That was when Ranpo looked over Fukuzawa's shoulder and asked softly, "While I do trust Vanitas and his medicines, I need to ask: Dazai, Kunikida, does that sleeping draft actually work?"
When Vanitas first arrived, he made it known in little ways that he was a skilled doctor; he could tell immediately that Dazai was suicidal, and gave him a recipe for a strong sleeping draft that would essentially act like a death simulator, putting him in a dead sleep for up to 14 hours, and it would help soothe his desire for death. Dazai didn't think it'd work, but the truth was that he didn't cut himself, jump from any bridges or so much as tie a noose since he first drank it. Chuuya had been a little worried about him sleeping for that long, but let it slide for obvious reasons. It was Dazai who gave it to Kunikida, who also had been better, far more relaxed and not as stuck up.
"Yes, it works."
"Can confirm, it does work."
Ranpo looked up at Vanitas who excused himself to make said draft, but he didn't take long at all. He handed Ranpo a bottle of clear liquid and looked at him, "It should help you immediately. So maybe it's best that you go home first."
"...I don't wanna be alone." He looked down, holding the bottle, "Am I okay to stay at the Agency overnight, *dad*?"
Fukuzawa flinched- he couldn't help it, he was mostly called dad in private, not in front of everyone. He didn't know if it was possible to say how proud he felt of that progress. He just nodded, "Of course. This is your home. I'll stay as well."
"As will Karl and I." Poe looked at Ranpo and smiled weakly, "Well, if you're okay with that." He blinked when instead of a response, Ranpo slumped into him, nuzzling him. Poe looked down and saw that the bottle was already empty, Ranpo having drunk it as soon as Fukuzawa stated that he could stay. "I didn't think it would work that fast!"
"It doesn't," Vanitas stated, crossing his arms and smirking a little at Ranpo, "He was so exhausted that it built up and drinking it made his body skip being drowsy and straight to asleep. The same thing happened the first time you drank it, right Dazai?"
"Yeah, but obviously I was tired and stressed. Chuuya was burnt out and practically comatose. I only took the damn thing so I wouldn't have to wait as long for him to wake up!!" Dazai pouted a little, but he always kept the recipe handy, just in case.
For now, Ranpo needed a good, long sleep. It would be very early morning by the time he woke up, and nothing would make him wake up beforehand. Poe was made to resign himself to his fate, laying down on the couch with Ranpo lying on top of him, and Karl curled up on Ranpo's back. They had been given a blanket, which was draped over Poe and Ranpo, with Karl staying on top of it. Poe had a soft pillow under his head, and he found that he was also unable to fight off sleep, his eyes shutting.
Fukuzawa did send everyone home as early as possible, Kunikida deciding to go to Katai's to finish his work. Vanitas went to get Noé from the café and Dazai went home to Chuuya. Yosano had wanted to stay and keep an eye on Ranpo, but it was Lucy who dragged her out, knowing that she likely skipped a meal or two while she was wrapped up in her work. Fukuzawa remained at the Agency, since the couch in his office doubled as a bed, so he could sleep but also be in the vicinity if Ranpo needed him.
****
When Ranpo woke up the next morning, Poe and Fukuzawa immediately comforted him, and he was indescribably grateful for it all. Ranpo managed to figure out where his parents were living, and knew that he *had* to take this chance. Fukuzawa had offered to drive him, but Ranpo simply told him that he'd be needed at the Agency today. That was likely true, so he didn't argue. Poe knew about how Ranpo was with trains, so *he* drove Ranpo instead, after making sure he ate something at the café first.
The drive was oddly peaceful, which made Poe extremely tense. Usually Ranpo would be talking his ears off about one thing or another, but this time he was quiet, just listening to the radio music. Poe wasn't sure he liked the upbeat music, preferring softer and melancholic melodies, however if it made Ranpo happy, that was that. Plus, the music wasn't bad by any means, just not his thing.
The address had lead them to a house in Kyoto, not too far from the main town- it was two bedroomed, and quite modern. They'd lived here long enough to be comfortable, clearly. Ranpo was shaking with nerves, Poe hating how out of character he was, but... then again, he didn't even know how he'd react to finding out his presumed dead parents were alive and living happily. Poe didn't see a doorbell, so knocked on the door with a little more force than necessary, immediately panicking, "Oh, dear. I must look atrociously rude!"
"Ed. You can say *shit*, you know? You don't have to be so dignified all the time." Ranpo chuckled a little, relieved that at least someone was being their normal self. He froze when the door opened:
In front of them was a woman in her mid-forties, with long caramel hair done in a messy braid, a scar over her cheek, though it did nothing to destroy her beautiful face. She had bright green eyes and a warm smile. But aside from the scar, the one thing that was new to Ranpo, was... she was now confined to a wheelchair, and he knew that she hasn't walked since the day they parted. She looked at them, "Hello? How may I help you?"
"Mrs... Mrs. Edogawa?" She nodded being addressed, then her eyes widened at the shorter man who spoke, "I... my name is Ranpo Edogawa. Though... you probably knew me as Tarō Hirai?"
Poe stared at him in utter shock- Ranpo was an alias this entire time?! Then again, perhaps it was his way of coping and keeping himself safe. He took his mother's family name, and distanced himself from his past. A part of him must've known all along that it was no accident. Sure enough, the woman covered her face and started to cry, reaching out for Ranpo, who hugged her tightly, sobbing.
During this, a man came down and Poe immediately knew that this was Ranpo's father, they looked exactly the same, though the older man had a beard, and there were grey hairs through it and his actual hair. His right arm was missing, but aside from a burn on his neck and small scars across his face, he looked otherwise unscathed. He saw Ranpo and his eyes immediately lit up, "Son? You... you came to find us?"
"Yeah. I'm so sorry I took so long to realise you... that you're both still... still alive..." he sobbed and hiccuped, and his father joined in the hug as best he could, holding his wife and son close. Nearly 13 years had passed, but there was still a pure love that was impossible to erase.
Poe was about to slip away and wait in the car, but Ranpo suddenly gripped his hand, looking up at him, silently pleading him to stay. Poe couldn't refuse him, it didn't feel right. After introducing himself, he noticed that Ranpo's mother lit up, and once they were allowed into the house, he understood from the books on the shelf that she was a fan of his. It made him incredibly flattered of course, though Ranpo didn't look surprised.
Before they started to discuss what happened in the past, the one thing Ranpo made clear was that he wanted to be addressed as the name he goes by now, which his parents happily agreed to. His father took a breath, "As you're aware, I was a detective, I was looking into some political scandals around the time of the War. They knew that there were other ways to deal with certain situations, they just chose not to get involved in case the soldiers decided to bite the hand that fed them."
"Someone found out about your investigation." Ranpo looked at him, and of course his father nodded, "Who put a hit on you?"
"Admittedly, that doesn't matter anymore. He was murdered by that Jester Nikolai. That was when we saw you on the news." His mother looked at him, "We wanted to find you sooner, but you'd already started to have your own life, you're a better detective than most in this world."
"Mom, that doesn't matter." Ranpo took a breath, "Besides, you were threatened, weren't you?" They flinched and his expression darkened, "It doesn't matter how many years pass, obviously you're gonna be scared when threatened."
"That's no excuse. Especially when we already know now that the threat was empty." His father let out a bitter chuckle, "The politician who put a bomb under our car threatened to finish the job himself, or hire hitmen to go after you. What they didn't take into account was the fact that you helped both of the men they were going to use: Yukichi Fukuzawa, and Sakunosuke Oda."
Oh, now *that* was irony. Oda had originally claimed to not think about his targets, that it was strictly business, but even back then, he never would have murdered the parents of the one boy who proved him innocent. Fukuzawa wouldn't have killed a child, even one as annoying as Ranpo, though he knew the man had thoughts of throwing him in the river at first.
Poe spoke up, "So both of you were severely injured from the explosion, and then your son was threatened. No wonder you remained hidden all this time. But why not flee to another country? And forgive me, but this is pretty shoddy for people who are essentially in witness protection."
"We gave up on that a long time ago," Ranpo's mother scoffed, "Besides, we have... well, we'll say a Gift similar to our son's. We knew how things would work out, and lo and behold, we've been right." She then looked uncomfortable, clenching her fists, "However, we still weren't about to risk Ranpo's life. So we moved to Kyoto instead of going back home, and we kept our names."
They hoped to one day be brave enough to go to the Armed Detective Agency, just to see their grown son, and hope to make up for lost time. They should have known that their World's Greatest Detective would find them instead. Ranpo smiled weakly and took a breath, "I'll make sure nobody hurts either of you again. You're both geniuses in your own rights, so maybe you should come out of the shadows. Join the police department again, maybe apply to Special Operations. Hell, the Armed Detective Agency have been setting up new offices all around Japan, so maybe we can be not only family, but colleagues as well."
"Would your dad be okay with that?" Ranpo's father's words were incredibly soft, there was nothing hostile about the tone. Of course Ranpo had a new family in the Agency, and Fukuzawa had managed to raise him like a true father.
Ranpo suddenly had a devious smirk, remembering Minoura's phrasing from earlier, "Why don't you ask dad yourself, *pa*?" That made him blink and Ranpo laughed, "Both of you are my dad's- Fukuzawa didn't replace you, but I won't ever stop considering him my dad. I'd rather have both, if I can."
"You can." He answered immediately.
They all talked for hours, Ranpo's mother bringing them fresh tea and homemade cookies every once in a while. The only awkward moment was when she decided to tease and ask why Ranpo and Poe weren't wearing rings yet. Ranpo went red while Poe blurted something about them being rivals, and she grinned: "Oh, I wasn't implying that the two of you were an item, but I must say that you have interesting reactions to that thought~"
"Mom!!"
"Mrs. Edogawa!!"
"I know this isn't helping, but even I thought you boys were an item," Ranpo's father confessed, "You both hold hands, know what to say to comfort the other, and just generally look happy in each other's company. Obviously there's no pressure, but know we'd support you if you both started dating."
That was something they both ended up thinking about on the car ride home.
****
After it got a little late, Ranpo's parents agreed to think about applying to work at the Armed Detective Agency Office in Kyoto when it opened, and that had been enough to put his mind at ease. Poe's soft classical music was playing on the radio, and Ranpo asked softly, "Would you ever date me? You spent a long time hating me after we first met."
"I... it wasn't *hate*, per se. I was just jealous. But I did admire you." He then chuckled, "Though I'll never forgive you for pretending you'd forgotten about me."
"Sorry about that. I was just pissed that the Guild got their hands on you." He leaned back in his seat and crossed his arms, "...you thought about joining the Agency?"
"I've thought about it. I'm happy where I am, but I do tend to get bored. Plus, I am wanting to be closer to you, that I won't deny." Poe enjoyed helping others, and the Agency accepted Poe as one of his own, just like they had with Lucy. Karl was always at home with the Agency, which was why he'd stayed behind during this.
"Then would you consider being my partner, instead of my rival?" Poe felt his breath hitch, but Ranpo smiled, "I like you, I truly do. This might help us grow closer, and decide what's best for us in the future. Whaddya say?"
"..." Poe couldn't resist smiling a little, "I say... you should probably prepare my Entrance Exam."

hell sees her shadow in my backseat
Summary: Tachihara accompanies a friend of the commander as training for the Hunting Dogs. And he's very normal and well-behaved about how hot his temporary supervisor is. Relationships: Fyodor Dostoyevsky/Tachihara Michizou Word Count: 4,029 words Additional Tags/Warnings: Canon-typical violence. Author’s Note: Written for Fics for Palestine!
~
Tachihara’s first thought upon meeting Dostoyevsky is that if the wind blew hard enough he’d get swept away.
It’s probably a bad thing to think about someone who’s best friends with your boss, or whatever it is that’s going on between Dostoyevsky and Commander Fukuchi, but it’s true. The guy is skin and bones, and pale like he’s never seen the sun in his life. All long thin fingers that Tachihara could probably snap in half without thinking too hard.
Not that he would, of course, even by accident. He’ll admit that he’s been a bull in a china shop while trying to get adjusted to the effects of the Hunting Dog surgeries—Jouno’s words, not his—but he was never that bad even at his worst. And Jouno says things like that to everyone, anyway, and he’s also told Tachihara that he wasn’t “as bad as Tecchou”, which means that he’s doing fine.
Point is, Tachihara absolutely understands why he’s been assigned to keep an eye on this guy today.

Chapter 2: Who Broke It?
Hunting Dogs & Cat Adventures
Silence.
While it may be reassuring to some, in this household it merely served as a countdown for when chaos would inevitably break loose. Silence could not be achieved for long, not unless they were all asleep.
Silence was a warning.
CRASH–!
"Jouno!" A deep bark sounded from the living room.
"It wasn’t me!" Hissed Jouno in reply, walking out of the kitchen to confront the German Shepherd that had accused him, sitting in the doorframe with a look of contempt, tail laid elegantly atop his front paws.
"Then who was it?" Tecchou asked, confusion evident despite lack of expression or intonation.
"I don’t know, Teruko?"
"Don’t you peasants look at me! I was getting my beauty sleep." A few yips from the lounge denied that accusation.
"Well, it cannot be Tachihara either, since he’s with me, asleep." Tecchou’s tail flicked in the direction of the Beagle that leaned on him, somehow not stirred awake by the sudden sound.
"Well it wasn’t me, I was on top of the fridge, that’s not even close to whatever fell." The cat provided an alibi for what would soon turn into an investigation.
"I think it was a potted plant– also didn’t Fukuchi tell you to stop climbing the fridge, Jouno?"
"I’ll listen to that human when mutts learn to fly. it’s comfortable up there, and pleasantly warm."
"...aren’t fridges cold?"
"The machinery runs hot, you brainless furball."
"Right. So then who did knock it over?" Tecchou changed the subject, not finding it necessary to argue while there were more important matters at hand. Disagreeing with Jouno would only guarantee a lengthy argument.
"I still think it’s Teruko" Jouno extended and retracted his claws, scratching the surface of the tile floor, but not doing damage.
“Pointing paws just makes you more suspicious, eyeless! When I tell you I was asleep, I mean it! Now my beautiful fur is all dirty…” Teruko whined, finally entering the room… covered head to toe in soil.
“See? Clearly, she’s the culprit!” The cat bit, huffing in indignation.
“But she said she didn’t do it–”
“She’s a bold-faced liar, then! How else would she have gotten dirty if not for the brutal murder of the houseplant?”
“Because the thing fell right on top of me as I was sleeping on the sofa!” Teruko barked, shaking off some dirt from her fur.
“...the sofa got dirty?” Tecchou perked up.
“...the old man won’t like that…” Jouno added.
A collective shudder ran through all the animals, causing Tachihara to get stirred awake as he leaned against Tecchou. Blinking his sleepy eyes, it does not take him long to notice the gathering.
“What’s going on?”
“We’re saying our prayers.” Teruko said, at the same time Tecchou explained “A plant fell into the sofa.”
Another shudder ran through them, this time with Tachihara included. That sofa was off limits, and they all knew it– and now it was befouled by one of them… and none of them wanted to admit to it.
“...am I going to be put back on the street?” Tachihara was the first to speak up, a fearful whine audible in his voice as his tail hung low.
“...I’ll be damned if I get put back in that godawful shelter, I’m too cute for that. Teruko, just admit you did it! We all know it–” Jouno hissed to the pomeranian to his left.
“I did no such thing, fleabag! I am telling you it fell on me!”
“No one is being sent away over this. Clearly, he cares for us.” Tecchou interjects, raising to his feet, his height meaning he towered above all of them. “At worst, we’ll be stuck with dry food for a couple weeks and get locked in a room when he’s away.”
Several seconds, no one spoke, and simple silence fell.
“...you know what, on second thought, the shelter wasn’t all bad.” Jouno spoke flatly, getting up to walk away.
“You’re going to just flee like that?!” Indignant yipping from Teruko, followed by a growl. “You coward!”
“Actually, I was going to flee like this . Goodbye, and the best of luck with your odds of survival.”
𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬
From the tips of his paws upward, Jouno’s silhouette grew blurry, and before you could blink twice, there was no longer a white cat among the group, instead all that was there was the faint afterglow of something vaguely cat-shaped.
“Take me with you!” Tachihara whined, to no avail. His pleas did not get heard, or at least not acknowledged.
“Traitor! Don’t side with the feline bastard! He is no longer one of us–”
“He’ll be back.” Tecchou said, not quite following the universal panic that had broken out among the pets.
“I’ll make him into a fur coat when he does! Creating this mess, covering me in dirt and trying to make me take the fall for it! I’ll turn him into a kitten and–”
“We have no proof to suggest that he’s the culprit.”
“He’s a cat , Tecchou! When plants get knocked over, those are the first you should question! Only the guilty flee like cowards, and he is nowhere to be found.”
“Actually… I don’t think it was him, either…” Tachihara spoke up from behind Tecchou’s front paw, shielded almost completely from view before ducking so his face was no longer stuffed into the fur of the German Shepherd’s chest. “He quite liked the plant that got destroyed… he mentioned to me a couple times how it smells nice, I think it was his favourite. If he wanted to knock a plant–”
What he was going to say would remain forever unknown, as rummaging could be heard behind the door, the clicking sound of key knocking together and a lock being turned.
“Rats– he’s back! Every dog for themselves!” Teruko exclaimed, before running off as fast as her tiny legs could carry her forward, diving under the couch, though her red-ish tail still stuck from beneath it, clearly giving her position away. Tachihara simply found a spot between Tecchou’s front legs and Tecchou… Tecchou just sat there and waited, as he did not do anything wrong and thus saw no reason to flee. Even if he had been the culprit, he’d still take accountability.
“I’m home!” A loud voice called out, sound bouncing off the walls, effectively announcing the presence for anyone that had somehow missed the loud creaking of the front door. Each step was a heavy thud as Fukuchi stepped into the living room. “Hello Tecchou.” Petting his head, Fukuchi bent his knees to speak to him. “Where’s the others, huh, buddy?” A chuckle that indicated that Tachihara had been spotted but intentionally ignored was what betrayed the rather shallow act.
“And Teruko, little lass, did something get stuck under the couch while I was away?” With one hand, the couch got lifted up, tilting it onto its back legs. There lay Teruko, a discarded tennis ball not too far from her as she gave her most innocent face. “Was it so dirty under the couch? Sorry girl, I gotta learn how to clean better.” Laughter again, thankfully no suspicion was voiced. “Now where’s Jouno? Is he on top of the fridge again?”
The pets exchanged a nervous look that Fukuchi could not intercept, as he didn’t speak their language. None of them knew where Jouno was, and that might become a problem really soon.
“Hm, no, not up there. Well, he’ll find his way back, wherever he is.” Two fingers twirled at the moustache, showing indifference at Jouno’s whereabouts.
A collective sigh of relief came from both Tachihara and Teruko, as Tecchou still sat completely still and aloof. However, that relief would be short-lived, as Fukuchi next went to the lounge.
“Oh, we are so dead–” Tachihara trembled, all 3 of the animals following all the way to the doorframe to observe the reaction to the mess.
And there it lay, right on the floor, a shattered blue terracotta pot with soil everywhere, making a pattern on the floor and smudges on the sofa. It did not look pretty. Above it, an open window with the wind only spreading that dirt further into the corners of the room, as if to add insult to injury.
Fukuchi did not speak for a bit after he took in the sight, before he shrugged and closed the window, locking it.
“That’s what I get for not shutting windows properly when it storms, I suppose. Message received. What a mess…” A disgruntled grumble could be heard, yet that annoyance was not directed at any of the dogs present or cats absent.
“The wind knocked it over? How lame.” Spoke a voice from behind them, and Tachihara nearly jumped out of his fur. There sat Jouno, his approach completely unnoticed by all three dogs despite the bell that hung from his neck.
“You, feline traitor, have some nerve showing your face here!” Teruko immediately shot into the offensive, but Tecchou put a stop to her certain assault by picking her up by the neck fur. “HEY! UNHAND ME! I am no pup anymore! How dare you, you heathen?!” Legs dangling in the air, trying to make contact with anything yet not colliding with anything but void, he simply let her rage as Jouno sat there calmly.
“Oh, Jouno, there you are! I knew you couldn’t be far, but the open window had me guessing, you sneaky cat.” Fukuchi kneeled before him to pat him, and that hand met Jouno as he held the most unimpressed expression on his facial features.
“If I wanted to flee, a closed window wouldn’t stop me, old man.” He sneered, but all Fukuchi heard was a half-annoyed meow, and so the man laughed.
“Right, never been affectionate. Well then, if you’re all here, time for dinner.”
Dinner! As if a magic word, all 4 pets showed sudden interest, to varying degrees. Teruko went limp in Tecchou’s hold, who gently lowered her back to the floor, and so the group followed right behind their human toward the kitchen.
Four plates were served, and only the content sound of eating animals were audible, the shattered pot already forgotten and discarded in a bin.
Silence filled the house once more.

What kind of Pony (mlp) I think the BSD characters would be:
!Spoiler warning for a small spoiler for Chuuya’s backstory/Stormbringer!
TWs: Short and very slight mention of lab experiments on a person/pony, very short and slight mention of manipulation, Mori being Mori. Nothing is described in a very detailed way though.
The first TW is a reference to Chuuya’s backstory/stormbringer and the other two are…Mori being Mori. I think you know how he is.
Dazai: Unicorn.( He would have become an Alicorn if he would have stayed with Mori and if he would have finished his training there.) He loves to watch Chuuya fly around.
Chuuya: Alicorn (He was born as a unicorn and due to lab experiments on him he turned into an Alicorn. He can also use extremely powerful magic due to this but loses control over it if he uses too powerful spells.)
Kunikida: Unicorn
Nikolai: Earth Pony but he owns a magic coat. He wishes that he would be a pegasus instead so that he can fly freely over the clouds together with the birds whenever he wants. He feels stuck, being bound to the earth, unable to fly.
Fyodor: Unicorn. Sometimes he uses his magic to let Nikolai float around whenever the other feels blue or even depressed.
Sigma: Earth Pony (Pegasus would suit too but he always references to himself as an “Ordinary man” in the manga so I think him being an Earth Pony would suit the best.)
Bram: Alicorn
Atsushi: Unicorn but he turns into an Alicorn later (He’s the MC so I gave him Twilight Sparkle treatment.)
Akutagawa: Unicorn
Poe: Pegasus (Idk why it just sits right with me.) who possesses multiple magic books which he can use himself or a Unicorn.
Ranpo: Earth Pony
Mushitarou: Unicorn
Kenji: Earth Pony but he’s extremely strong
Shibusawa: Alicorn. I am very unsure about it because him being a Unicorn would suit too but he is canonically overpowered af with multiple abilities and with being half dragon due to his ability so I think an Alicorn would suit the best. Or he is simply a real dragon.
Higuchi: Pegasus (Don’t ask why. It suits her really well in my mind.)
Gin: Unicorn
Tachihara: Unicorn
Lucy: Pegasus
Jouno: Unicorn
Tecchou: Pegasus
Teruko: Unicorn
Lovecraft: He would be either a Mermare or some powerful entity who lives in the sea/is connected to it and only loosely resembles a pony or looks nothing like a pony at all but who can shapeshift into looking a bit more like a normal pony (something about him will always look eerie to other ponies even tho they can’t quite grab what’s off about him.). In his pony form he would be an Earth Pony who can use magic.
Steinbeck: Earth Pony
Louisa: Unicorn
Fitzgerald: Unicorn
Mark: Pegasus or Earth Pony
Fukuzawa: Alicorn (Leader/King of the Kingdom where the ADA characters live. Takes a Princess Celestia kind of role to Atsushi.)
Yosano: Unicorn
Mori: Alicorn (Leader/King of the Kingdom where the PM characters live. Took a Princess Celestia kind of role to Dazai when he was younger but in a twisted and manipulating kind of way before Dazai ran away to the kingdom of Fukuzawa.)
Oda: Earth Pony
Ango: Unicorn
Hirotsu: Unicorn
Kouyou: Earth Pony who is connected to a powerful being (Golden Demon)
Kyouka: Unicorn or Pegasus who is also connected to a powerful being (Demon Snow)
Q (Yumeno): Earth Pony who is connected to a magic doll.
Verlaine: He’s an Alicorn but just like Chuuya he is one due to lab experiments on him. He was born as a pegasus.
Arthur: Unicorn
Elise: She is currently a unicorn but she can become whatever Mori wants her to be. She is currently a unicorn since Yosano and Dazai are both unicorns and she resembles both of them as children/teens.

Hi hi can I request platonic hcs with the Hunting Dogs? Basically reader is a new recruit and they’re slightly younger than the others (like around 18 or so). How would Tetchou, Jouno, Teruko and Tachihara treat them? (you can add fukuchi if you want)
a/n: plz this req is so cute, i don't write platonic stuff often so it's like a breath of fresh air :0 i was gonna add fukuchi but then...didn't cuz i'm still mad about what he's doing to ranpo ;-; split each character into their own section so it's more organized idk
warnings: none just the chaos of being a hunting dog tbh. also jouno and terukos' sadism if that counts??
Being a New Recruit in the Hunting Dogs (Platonic HCs)
Tumblr media
Tecchou
you honestly could not be in better hands??
actually i lied. you probably could but tecchou is pretty great compared to the others
fukuchi probably sticks you with this mf cuz he thinks he's the most responsible for working with a trainee...compared to jouno and teruko who might emotionally scar you
you being younger than the rest doesn't affect how he treats you (after all, ur only a year younger than tachi)
^very respectful of course <3 people on the outside wouldn't even know you were a trainee by the way he speaks to you as an equal
pretty good at explaining all the stuff that's expected out of you
^literally recites the entire manual for new recruits' word for word?? you retained almost none of it but damn was it impressive
also gives you the whole "jouno may seem evil but don't be scared of him" speech...it doesn't help
is so proud to show you his ability PLS. he was like "look at this" and started manipulating his saber n shit, you were like 😯😯
gives you a tour of the base but gets distracted by an ant colony five minutes into it...
makes you watch the ants with him but after 30 minutes you pretend to go to the bathroom so you can get away -///-
Jouno
LMAOO good luck
purposefully tries to scare the shit out of you, and damn does it work
says some "i'm only gonna explain this once, so if you forget you'll probably die" before overloading you with information about the job
side note: literally none of it is that important
jouno heard that you trained with tecchou so now he already has a grudge against you
ditches you like 10 times to go work on his own...you gotta keep going to find him again to ask questions
(why was that how my first day at my job went lol)
plz he hears you coming and uses his ability to dissolve so you can't find him 💀💀
complains constantly that you're being "too loud"?? meanwhile you were only trying to INHALE
does give you decent advice. as in, he tells you to stay tf away from fukuchi if you value mental stability
contradicts this advice immediately after tho by dragging you out on a mission with him and making you witness his torture firsthand ??
it has you re-evaluating your life choices ngl
Teruko
basically jouno 2.0
a little more chill than him tho. has more patience and is great at showing you how things should be done & answering any questions you may have
another one who is so proud to show you her ability. except she doesn't give you a warning and just morphs 3 feet taller out of nowhere
makes you carry her on your shoulders while giving you a (better) tour of HQ and will bonk you on the head if you take a wrong turn
probably makes some snide remarks about your age and how it's likely "you'll make more mistakes"?? all you can think is that's rich coming from the mf that likes to pretend to be a child
teruko is very adamant about protecting the lives of civilians so she REALLY trains you
it's kind of a morality test too. she'll rapid-fire ask you questions and def judges you based on your response
^think of those quizzes where it's like "your best friend and mom are drowning, who do you save first" pointless ass shit
reports back to fukuchi with an IN DEPTH analysis of your behavior, and doesn't hold back
it's important to be on his good side but don't try to show off to him too much. we all know teruko is an attention wh0re and she'll threaten to rip your teeth out if she suspects ur trying to be better than her
Tachihara
you'll probably find yourself gravitating towards him the most
with both of you being the youngest and newest to the hunting dogs, there's a lot you can relate about
your first day went a lot like his actually, and y'all definitely bond over that
helps you out with missions so you don't have to ask the others for assistance cuz they would def make fun of you
tachihara is chill about his job too and just arrests criminals instead of...yknow...cutting them into pieces so that's for sure easier on your stomach
being close with tachi also ensures you'll be closer with jouno since they get along so well
^same for teruko kind of
they'll still tease you guys for being the youngest recruits, but it'll be in a more good-natured way rather than contempt
tachi will randomly use his ability to mess with you, like yanking your saber or your phone out of your hand?? i stg
sits next to you at meetings too and slides you little notes so ur not bored
pls he's so sweet, like a helpful older brother ;-; out of everyone he goes the most out of his way to make you feel more comfortable

pleasee would u do tecchou, chuuya, jouno and tachihara qith like a super tall s/o??? ummmm emmm like 180-200 cm maybe is genetic or maybe is for the ability u have butt ififjfjektofkt just- super tall
-🪻
loving heights
Tumblr media
synopsis - how are they with an s/o that is drastically taller than them
includes - chuuya, tachihara, jouno, tecchou
warnings - gn!reader, reader is around 5'11 - 6'6, fluff, slight crack, wc - 457
Tumblr media
chuuya nakahara ★↷
↪he definitely would feel rather insecure about his height at first. you really emphasised the height difference but he eventually came to convince himself you were just abnormally tall.
↪considering there could be an entire foot between you two, it did look pretty weord when you stood side by side. but he would very quickly come to love how stupidly tall you were.
↪he would be more willing to tease you about how tall you were, especially if you ever commented on his height. but eventually he didn't really care.
↪ eventually he'd even start bragging about how tall you were, often encouraging you to intimidate people with your height.
michizō tachihara ★↷
↪ because tachihara is around average height he would be quite surprised at how tall you were. he wouldn't be convinced it was genetics, even if it was.
↪he wouldn't mind the height difference at all. might be a bit awkward if something pointed it out but otherwise he really wouldn't care. if anything he'd tease you himself, making very subtle comments about how tall you are.
saigiku jouno ★↷
↪jouno is roughly around 5'11. so if you were around the 180 mark you'd be closer to his height but if you were taller he'd be a bit intimidated at first - not that you could tell.
↪he already kind of hated the fact tecchou was taller than him, and now someone else was. it'd only make him slightly more snarky to begin with but he eventually came to actually enjoy it.
↪he wouldn't like it if someone pointed out the height difference but otherwise he'd also encourage you to intimidate people with him because of your height.
↪he would rather die than admit it made him feel safe aswell. being in your arms made you feel like a shield to him and he would secretly indulge in that.
tecchou suehiro ★↷
↪the closest person to your height. he may be taller or he may be a tad bit smaller and so the height difference wasn't that obvious when it came to you two standing side by side.
↪he really wouldn't care, but sometimes he would just stare at you because you were so tall. before he met you he thought he was tall, but now he doesn't feel as tall.
↪ however he does find it rather comforting in a way. if you were taller than him he'd be very open to having you cuddle him from behind. having your arms around him would be something he'd see as a safe space.
Tumblr media
5'10 - 6'6 = 180cm - 200cm
chuuya - 5'2 = 160cm
tachihara - 5'7 = 176cm
jouno - 5'11 = 181cm
tecchou - 6' = 184cm

WHEN YOU..
Tumblr media
PAIRING. various tr & bsd characters x gn!reader
GENRE. fluff. (& crack)
WARNING. non proofread
NOTE. should I make this into a series kind of thing?? (rushed note but wtv I'm so tired)
Tumblr media
laugh at their jokes.
they get so flustered and lowkey proud of themselves. they made you laugh! how can your voice be this cute? your laugh?? it's all too perfect. their face becomes a dark shade of red, the tips of their ears burning, mind becomes blank as they stare at you. you could basically hear their heart thumping in their chest. they would eventually force out an awkward cough and turn away, not wanting to eye contacts with you for any longer since it's slowly killing their poor heart.
ー atsushi, poe, takemichy, tanizaki, souya, gin, lucy, takuya.
⠀⠀⠀
their dumbass laugh along with you first, then realizes a few minutes later. they'd go "I KNOW RIGHT?? IT WAS SO FUNNY-" and then proceeds to get all quiet. you?? laughed at their joke??? no wayyyy- when you gather yourself and look at them, you'll find them blushing with their hand covering the lower half of their face.
ー baji, higuchi, tachihara, chifuyu, shinichiro, hakkai, sigma, chuuya, rindou.
⠀⠀⠀
they would just sit there and admire you; every single detail of you. your laugh is so cute, your expression is so adorable. their expression just softens, it seems like you just made their stress fly away. they're literally in cloud nine when they hear your voice. you ask if there's something wrong, and they would just respond with "nothing, just admiring the love of my life. have I ever told you that your laugh is very precious?" now it's your turn to blush.
ー ran, mikey, chuuya, nikolai, inui, yuzuha, dazai, ranpo, izana, kokonoi, yosano, kouyou, hanma, wakasa, draken, hina, naoto, shinichiro, jouno.
⠀⠀⠀
just laughs with you, and then continues to make more jokes.
ー mikey, rindou, hanma, ranpo, dazai, baji, fukuzawa, tachihara, nahoya, sanzu, kazutora, nikolai, tecchou.
⠀⠀⠀
doesn't really make any jokes in the first place.
ー akutagawa, mori, odasaku, ango, lovecraft, fyodor.
Tumblr media
kiss them on the lips.
let's say you interrupted them while they were talking; you just suddenly got close to them, planted a quick kiss on their lips, and moved away smiling. they froze, not a single word came out of their mouth. their cheeks start to burn and they get all shy when you start talking.
ー atsushi, chuuya, souya, akutagawa, poe, takuya, tanizaki, takemichy, gin, lucy, chifuyu, shinichiro.
⠀⠀⠀
once you pull away, they would pull you back into another kiss. but this time, they kiss you passionately, literally making you melt into it. once they pull away, they smile at you with a soft blush plastered on their cheeks; "now, where were we?"
ー mitsuya, dazai, mikey, inui, kokonoi, jouno, yosano, draken, dazai, rindou, wakasa, tecchou, hina, nikolai, gin, fyodor.
teases you, making you all flustered and lowkey regretting putting yourself in this situation. they'll tell you that they want another kiss, but then avoid your lips and make you look dumb. but once they're done playing, they'll be the ones giving you all the kisses <3
ー dazai, ran, ranpo, hanma, nahoya.

prologue.
➢ word count: 3,471
➢ series masterlist
⚠️ content warnings: minor language and descriptions of injuries, major manga spoilers!
Tumblr media
Heavy footsteps hurried down the street, carelessly crashing through the puddles below. Something was thudding in Tachihara's ears, but whether it was the rain, or his boots hitting the pavement, or just his heart pounding in his chest, he couldn't say for sure. All he knew was that every second spent on this dark, deserted path meant his target was getting further and further away.
"Let's split up," Tecchou huffed out, running beside him. "He couldn't have gotten far now that he's wounded. We should cover as much ground as we can."
Despite his efforts to keep his tone steady, there was something unfamiliar in his voice, something that made Tachihara falter—nervousness. As long as he had known him, the soldier was never one to panic on missions. He couldn't remember ever seeing him crack under pressure, not with his strong sense of duty and razor-sharp focus. If this was getting even to Tecchou...
He quickly shot a glance over at him, finding his expression unusually tense.
Shit. This was even worse than he thought.
"Right." Tachihara faced forward again, grateful that his voice wasn't failing him. "I'll take the streets up here."
"Watch your back, all right?"
"Yeah, you too."
When they reached the end of the narrow alley, he cut to the left, watching from the corner of his eye as Tecchou took off down the opposite road with a decisive nod in his younger teammate's direction. Just for a moment, before he was out of his line of sight, Tachihara caught a glimpse of the red splatter on the tip of Tecchou's saber. So he really did manage to hit that guy before, huh?
That was good news. But it didn't guarantee anything.
Unless they could find the spy who had been listening in on the secret meeting between the two Hunting Dogs—the spy who, before they realized they were being followed, had already overheard vital intelligence about Tachihara's identity—then everything was still at risk.
If they really lost him... If they couldn't eliminate the threat right here and now...
The thought alone was enough to bring a scowl to his face. As he raced down the Yokohama backstreet, Tachihara kept his eyes peeled for a blood trail or anything that might tell him that the spy had come this way, praying that there would be some evidence somewhere that hadn't already been washed away by the rain. His mind was storming, and that thumping in his ears was starting to give him a headache.
Damn it... How could he have made such a crucial mistake?
As a double agent, he was always watching his own back, being extra careful to cover his tracks. How could anyone have been spying on him without him noticing? And how long had he been on his trail? Whoever the hell that guy was, whoever sent him, he must've been experienced. Could he have come from the Mafia? God only knows how many spies of that caliber Mori had at his disposal. But he was so careful… He couldn't have done anything to attract Mori's suspicion... right?
There was only one way to find out for sure.
He had to find that damn spy.
As the rain continued pouring down overhead, Tachihara reached up to wipe the water out of his eyes, which still stung a bit from before. When Tecchou first confronted him back there, the spy had thrown a stun grenade or something to blind them momentarily. He didn't even see what exactly it was. He had been charging at him, following Tecchou's tracks, when suddenly a flash of light cut through the alleyway, enveloping the two men in a blinding blaze. Both had tried to use their abilities to stop him as he fled, but without being able to locate their target through the brightness, there wasn’t much they could do. It was a miracle that Tecchou had blindly managed to strike him. When the light faded moments later, they were alone, and the blood on Tecchou's sword was the only evidence that he was ever there at all.
All right, think.
If he was wounded and on the run, where would he go? He couldn't hope to get out of his pursuers' range if he was losing too much blood. And since he had the rain covering his tracks, it would be much easier to hide somewhere, to lay low and wait for them to give up the search. There were plenty of shadowy places to hide around here. Unfortunately for anyone trying to flee from him, however, Tachihara Michizou was someone whose occupation always required him to be acutely aware of his surroundings—every hidden nook from which someone could ambush him, and every unmapped alley he could use to escape from a situation quickly.
If he was the spy... If he had gone this way...
Down this path, there were a series of secluded alleyways, where the foot traffic was minimal. Because of that, it wasn't uncommon for members of the Port Mafia to carry out their business here. That's why Tachihara had chosen to take this direction intentionally, instead of letting Tecchou do it—his undercover work in the Mafia had taught him the ins and outs of Yokohama in a way that his comrades in the Hunting Dogs couldn't even conceive of.
If he was the spy... He would have hidden right around...
Catching something out of the corner of his eye, he halted abruptly in his tracks, his hand flying to hover over the gun in his holster.
...there.
A gloved hand just barely poked out of the shadows, lying limp on the ground. Any untrained eye would have missed it. Even as someone who knew what signs to look for, he had nearly missed it himself.
Eyed narrowed, Tachihara drew his pistol. He stood silently for a moment, waiting to catch any movement, any sound that would indicate that this person was alive and conscious. When they gave no signs of life, he gathered his bearings with a deep breath and cautiously rounded the corner to face the culprit.
Underneath the overhang of an abandoned storefront that shielded them from the rain, a masked figure lay slumped against the wall. Their head was tilted down towards the ground while one hand was pressed to their abdomen, caked with dark red blood—undoubtedly the result of Tecchou's slash.
There was no mistaking it. This was the guy.
The sound of a gun cocking cut through the alley. For a moment, Tachihara didn't even realize it was him, that he'd raised his own pistol.
"You’ve got some nerve, following me, ya know.” As he spoke, his voice sounded more strained than he would’ve liked. “But there’s nowhere to run anymore. Show yourself. We’re gonna have a little chat, you and me."
When no response came, he shifted his finger to rest precariously on top of the trigger, hoping that would earn some reaction out of the guy in case he was trying to fool him by playing dead. His wordless threat turned out to be futile.
His hand clenched around his gun, but he was careful not to apply too much pressure on the trigger. Not yet. He needed to talk to him first, if he wanted to get some answers. This was a close call, far too close for comfort. Right now, he was staring down at someone who could have ruined him, if only they'd gotten just a little bit farther. And he wouldn't even have known about it until it was too late. Tecchou was the one who realized they weren't alone back there, not him. The thought made him sick with frustration, both towards this idiot who dared to tail him and towards himself for letting things get this far.
Tachihara knew he had a short fuse—it was part of what made him such a convincing mafioso. It didn't take long for his patience to wear thin, especially with his nerves so on edge. Placing his boot atop the gloved hand that protected the spy's wound, he dug his heel in just harshly enough to inflict pain without causing more serious damage.
"Hey, you hear me? I'm not playin' games."
Despite the sharp edge to his tone, Tachihara faltered when the spy remained eerily unresponsive. No... Did Tecchou really get him that bad? Was it possible... he was already...?
Warily, he eased his foot off of his wound. As he did so, the spy's hand followed, slumping down from his side lifelessly. Tachihara narrowed his eyes, unwilling to lower his guard. Keeping his gun trained on him, he bent down just a bit, using his free hand to seize the top portion of his mask and tug it upwards to slide it off his face.
As anxious as he was to uncover the spy's identity, nothing could have prepared him for this.
With the mask cast aside, golden brown hair splayed out around the stranger's exposed face, his head lolling back against the wall. Tachihara stumbled back in shock, his eyes widening as he realized that this was no stranger at all—no spy at all—no man at all.
"Shit," he breathed. "No way."
He’d braced himself for the possibility that underneath that mask was a familiar face from the Port Mafia. But... her?
Why her?
Hiratsuka Raichou... A Mafia affiliate of nearly a decade, despite being no older than Tachihara himself. She was a somewhat mysterious figure within the Port Mafia, active mainly in the organization's underground smuggling routes. And, as circumstances would have it, she was also the latest subject of his investigations as a Hunting Dog.
Only, it seemed he was not the only one doing the investigating.
Fuck.
Of all people.
This... was bad. Really bad. Maybe even the worst-case scenario.
Hiratsuka was of particular interest to his commander because she was so well concealed within the Mafia's framework. Rumored to have a particularly destructive—valuable—ability, she was something of a hidden asset, someone that the Mafia had spent a lot of resources protecting. If she disappeared now, Mori wouldn't stop investigating until he found out what happened. He'd spent too much on her to just accept her loss and let it go. Worse yet, if he had sent her here himself... if someone knew she was following him, and then she didn't come back...
But no, that wouldn’t make sense. In all his time observing her and gathering evidence against her, he had never known her to take on an espionage assignment. She wasn't a spy. If Mori was going to have him followed, he certainly wouldn't have sent her when he had countless others trained for just such a job. Was it possible she had gone off on her own, then? That she realized he was keeping an eye on her, and decided to do the same to him? But that would be dangerous, not to mention senseless... It had been exceedingly difficult for Tachihara to come up with information on her, but one thing he had discovered for certain—although he still couldn't truly understand the reason for it—was that she was under orders never to leave Mafia turf, unless it was absolutely necessary for her smuggling work. If she had snuck away just to follow him, that meant she was going against Mori himself.
What the hell was she doing here?
"Tachihara-kun," a familiar voice called from a street over, shaking him out of his thoughts. Tecchou. "Are you down there?"
"Yeah. I'm here."
"I ran into a dead end. Couldn’t find any trace of him."
As the sound of his teammate's voice drew nearer, Tachihara kneeled down at the girl's side, reaching for her wrist to check her pulse. His gaze drifted to her wound, no longer covered by her hand. For a moment, he froze in that position, noticing something rather odd.
His mouth suddenly felt dry.
"I got 'em," he called back. "Don't worry."
Just then, the tall brunette silhouette of Tecchou appeared in his peripheral vision. He was still clutching his sword in one hand as he approached, just in case. The sight of blood on his weapon now made Tachihara feel a bit uneasy, knowing who it belonged to.
"This is the spy?" he said, coming to stand beside him. "You found him?"
"Yeah," the redhead mumbled, allowing Raichou's wrist to fall limply back to her side. "But it ain't a him at all."
Tecchou blinked down at the bloodied girl sprawled against the wall. Aside from having his odd little idiosyncrasies, the soldier was never particularly difficult to read. However, his expression right now said otherwise, unusually stony and indecipherable.
After a moment, he asked simply, "Dead?"
"Yeah."
"...She looks very young."
As he caught movement out of the corner of his eye, Tachihara glanced up just in time to watch as Tecchou returned his sword to the sheath on his belt. He then slowly reached up and removed his hat, solemnly holding it to his chest. Taken aback by the glimpse of sorrow on his teammate's face, Tachihara wasn't immediately sure how to respond.
"Well," he finally said, rising to his feet and putting his gun away, feigning indifference. "A spy's a spy, right?"
Tecchou seemed to think about it hard for a moment, his stare lingering on the body. Then, as quickly as the regretful look had appeared on his face, it faded.
"You're right," he said, nodding resolutely. "Spies must always be prepared to face the consequences of getting caught. I'm sure she knew that, getting mixed up in such a messy business."
Yeah... of course, he thought, sparing a glance down at her. He didn't need Tecchou to tell him that. He understood it better than anyone else. And definitely better than Hiratsuka Raichou.
"Looks like you recognize her."
"Huh?" At Tecchou's surprisingly astute observation, Tachihara lifted his head to look at him again, eyes wide.
"Is she from the Port Mafia, then?"
"Oh... Yeah. Actually, she's the one the Commander wanted intel on."
Tecchou's eyebrows raised. "No kidding?"
"No kidding."
He stared at him for a moment before speaking again, his voice low and grave. "What does this mean? Is there a bigger threat? Think someone's onto you?"
Tachihara paused before admitting a bit ashamedly, "I don't know. I didn’t think anyone was after me... Hell, it could've been just her, but... I guess it's possible."
"Hey, look, Tachihara, we can get you back to the base. Don't worry about what the Commander will say. I'm sure he'll understand if—"
"No," he interrupted that thought quickly, and a little too sharply. "I can handle it. I don't know who sent her, but... it's my job, you know? I can't just go running back to the boss with my tail between my legs at the first sign of trouble. I... can figure this out. I'm already on the inside anyway, so I oughtta dig around while I can."
Besides, a voice in the back of his mind reminded him, he couldn't leave the Port Mafia now. Not before he'd accomplished... that.
"Don't risk it." Tecchou's tone was stern, but riddled with concern. "I know how capable you are. I don't doubt you."
"Tecchou-san..."
"But if your identity's been compromised, we need to get you out right away. The mission may be important, but it isn't worth your life."
Tachihara chewed his lip, considering his response for a moment, before bowing his head to his teammate appreciatively. "Thanks for looking out for me, I mean it," he said sincerely. "But... I need you to trust me on this one. Someone gets killed, and I run away? I'd never get away with that. If Mori wasn't already suspicious of me, then that would be a great way to get his attention, 'specially if he finds out it was me she was after. There's still a way to handle this. As it is now, my cover still isn't blown. Not yet. Not necessarily." He looked back down at the girl, his stare hardening. "And once I get back to Mafia turf, I'll make sure it stays that way."
Tecchou hesitated for a moment, reluctant to let his teammate walk back into a situation that could easily become life-threatening. But he could sense Tachihara's determination, and one look at his face was enough to tell him that his mind was made up.
"...All right. But if it gets out of hand, call us right away," he said. "We're your team, after all. The Hunting Dogs wouldn't be able to call themselves the allies of justice if we didn't even look out for each other."
Truthfully, Tachihara wanted to be able to clean up his own mess, if he could. But—
"Okay. I will."
He was never one to go against his team, after all.
"What should we do with her, then?"
"Well, we can't have the Mafia investigating her disappearance... but it won't be much better if they find her dead. Unless I can make it look like an open and shut case. She does some smuggling work, so it wouldn't be so hard to believe if she got killed in a deal gone wrong."
Tecchou listened intently, nodding. "That makes sense."
"I think I can handle it from here. We shouldn't risk being seen together again. And besides... staging a murder is the work of an undercover mafioso, not a straight-laced cop like you." Tachihara tried to offer him a reassuring smile.
"Right. Let's put off your reports for a little while, just in case. And we'll meet in a new spot once the time comes. You know how to signal me if you need to get in touch sooner."
"Yeah..." Crouching down, Tachihara carefully slid an arm around Raichou's back and the other under her knees to lift her up. He tried not to focus too long on her face, pale and lifeless.
"Tachihara-kun."
"Hmm? Oh—"
He blinked in surprise as Tecchou reached out to place a fresh bandage on the bridge of his nose, then stepped back to admire his work with a nod.
"You shouldn't forget that, if you're going back to Port Mafia territory."
"Ah, right. Thanks, Tecchou-san." You didn't need to do it yourself, though...
"I'll let you take care of it, then." Tecchou spared another glance at the girl in Tachihara's arms, shame flickering across his face once again, just for a moment, before he turned on his heel. "Just... one more thing, if I might ask you to do something for me."
"Yeah, sure. What is it?"
He paused, then spoke in another tone that Tachihara had never heard from him before. This time, it was one that he couldn't even really identify. "Make sure someone in the Mafia gives her a proper burial, at least."
Tachihara felt the breath leave him at that request. "Oh... Y-Yeah, I'll do that."
"And please take of yourself."
"Don't worry about me. I'll manage. You guys take care of yourselves, too."
Tecchou nodded. "I'll be in touch."
And with that, he was off, not allowing himself to look back at the scene behind him.
He went back the way he came—back towards the main streets, the domain of the Hunting Dogs and the other divisions of the police force. When Tachihara began walking, however, it was in the opposite direction. Away from the world of light, deeper into the shadows, into the labyrinth of back streets known only to the Port Mafia.
Once he was safely out of sight, enveloped in the darkness, Tachihara's demeanor seemed to shift entirely from what it had been just moments before. As he shot another glance down at Raichou's unconscious figure in his arms, the bandage on his nose felt as though it was burning.
He shifted her around in his arms to bring one hand to the area of her neck just below her jaw, where he could feel her pulse.
Still there, as he'd thought. But weak, just as it was before.
A pang of guilt resounded in his chest to think that he had lied to Tecchou. To his teammate, to the group he had sworn his allegiance to.
But this girl... He couldn't get rid of her just yet. He couldn't afford to. However, he was serious before, when he said he could take care of it. It had taken everything for him to climb the ranks of the Port Mafia, and he wasn't about to let everything fall apart now, even if it meant he had to take a risk like this in order to protect himself.
His words from before rang in his head.
As it is now, my cover still isn't blown. Not yet. Not necessarily. And once I get back to Mafia turf...
His jaw hardened.
I’ll make sure it stays that way.

A/N: I’ve revised this a couple of times and I still think it’s a little clunky... but I hope it makes sense, at least. Thank you for reading this far. :) While we all suffer waiting to find out what’s happening with the prison game and Season 4, I’ll do my best to update this story regularly and make it something worth reading. We need some more Tachihara content around here ngl (and more content with the Hunting Dogs in general, so I’ll try to include them as often as I can!)
If, by any chance, anyone would like me to tag them in future chapters, just let me know. You can also find the story on AO3 here!
