I love all the little hints we get at the three baitlings but still most of us didn't get it.

- the glow of the open chest

- eventual triple worth of Bait

- Ezran saying 'gotcha' as he grabs the chest

You're absolutely right. Ezran does not deserve the hate for his heroic choice to save the baby glow toads. But there's just a little bit more to it.

I think what a lot of people are missing when they say they don't understand how Ezran could jeopardize their lives for "some lowly glow tads."

Yes, Ezran has empathy and naivety in abundance. But that's missing the point. The point is, since Ezran can talk to animals, ALL ANIMALS ARE PEOPLE TO HIM.

But let's stop, back up a little bit and think: what does it mean that Ezran can talk to animals?

He can hear their voices and have conversations with them. He can understand their thoughts and desires.

They're not "stupid, worthless dirty animals;" they have emotions, personalities, "rich inner lives." Just like people. Animals are people. They have worth, a worth Ezran holds equal to humans, whether the rest of us can talk to them or not.

"Who is a person?" is a question that tdp has been asking us to think about since season 1.

Glow toads are homely and humble. But they are sentient. They are people. And THAT's why Ezran chose to rescue the baby glow toads from Finnegrin. And it was the right choice.

People are hating or questioning Ez on why he wanted to save the baby glowtoads. Like... this is Ezran we are talking about, right? Is there another Ezran I don't know about? Of course, the young king would save baby glowtoads. He's Ezran. He's kind and doesn't like to fight. He always tries to be compassionate and find a solution without violence. His connection with animals is just another sign of how compassionate he is. Also, how was he supposed to know Finnegrin would be that crazy to chase them for three baby glowtoads? Stop hating Ezran! He's a child! Leave him alone he just wants everyone to have a peaceful life!
