Thoughts on Wuthering Waves Thus Far
Finished Wuthering Wave's present story. It wasn't ... amazing. Wasn't great, either honestly. Thoughts (and spoilers) below the cut.
Honestly I enjoyed the big brawl. I liked that they slotted in random Resonators to the trial team to fill out your team, I also liked that they warned you that a sequence was going to happen. Seeing the other playable Resonators pitch in was also a treat.
As an aside, I watched the AI Taoqi walk up to a TD and get absolutely bodied by it. It was hilarious.
And I finally got to see my gun firing!
But the audio was ... I dunno man, disappointing. You cannot give me a gun that looks like a railgun or a positron cannon and then slap a weak-ass boom onto it firing. I expected so much and got let down hard. And then I was in a building it fired at and there wasn't even a boom???? It looks like this when firing, for god's sake!

It broke the Magic Force Field! It should've vaporized the building I was in! Combat sounds amazing, and this massive, fixed position gun with technology from the Dark Ages just goes 'bang'???
But yeah, that's my biggest gripe with the story. Or second biggest gripe, I suppose. My biggest gripe with the story is probably that the general lets us, a complete stranger, come up with the battle plan. I know we're supposed to be some sort of Chosen One, maybe their King Arthur, but come on man. Even if the Magic Dragon said I was their King Arthur, I really expected the general to be the one to come up with the strategy.
Although, maybe it's because I picked the most sensible options for all three choices, and he didn't see a need to correct me.
Switching elements was also something I expected - in a way their own interface spoils it. Because the Trial Rover is always "Rover-Spectro" which made it feel like there was gonna be a "Rover-<Element>". And also I think it's sorta expected of the MCs by now. I just wish we could also swap weapons freely.
Also, in that end scene, I was dreading us getting our own Paimon, but thank god we don't have it. For now, anyway.
But yeah. The ending was definitely better than the early hours of story. Not by much, but it was better. Still, Kuro does need to step up their game in terms of their story.
And music. No soundtrack, other than the GM, is stuck in my mind. Even the Rover going Havoc was a pretty lackluster moment for the impact it was supposed to have. There's no "Wildfire" here to reinforce the impact.
There's good bones for a game here. It's just that Kuro really needs to rally up and get better meat on it.
