17-year-old prodigy Christian Li performs the virtuosic finale of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto. 🎻
The Australian violinist recorded the full concerto, alongside other Tchaikovsky favourites, on @deccaclassics with the @liverpool_philharmonic and their conductor laureate Vasily Petrenko.
Hear the recording with Alexander Armstrong every morning this week, as he celebrates it as our Album of the Week.

Do you think you're gonna run another bracket after this, as was suggested early on? (ie. concertos, suites, song cycles, etc.)
I've been thinking about this and unfortunately I think I'm all bracket-ed out. This was a lot of fun but it was also more work than I was expecting. I would LOVE to participate in a suite/concerto/etc bracket though.
Does anyone else want to host a suite bracket?
Here are some of the things I learned hosting this one:
There should probably be some kind of way to limit how many submissions one person can do. For this bracket there were a couple people who submitted a LOT and then others therefore couldn't submit any later.
There should also be a way to help diversify the bracket a bit and preferentially select poc and women etc.
#someone was talking seriously about hosting a violin concerto bracket specifically after this one ends i know#answered#hi btw :)#it also might be fun to do something like. tchaikovsky bracket#or like... classical pieces inspired by the sea or classical pieces about death etc

having emotions related to experiences that are specific to me alone is SICKENING. what do you mean no one will ever understand the way i feel about this specific life event because it didn’t happen to them. what am i supposed to do when i start feeling too strongly about it again. who am i supposed to talk to. who will understand me
#this isn’t about something bad btw this is about the tchaikovsky violin concerto and how much it means to me#i’m SICK but no one would understand.. to them it’s just a piece. to me it’s everything#strq.txt

I will never stop thinking about the themes of Valse Scherzo vs the themes of the violin concerto... how one of them is an ode to everything he loves about a man and the other was the only thing keeping them together... how only valse scherzo was dedicated to Kotek... how one is filled with new love and optimism and the other is with heaviness and complexity... both pieces are intrinsically connected to the reason they fell in love in the first place... Kotek refusing to play the violin concerto ultimately caused the end of their affair forever... thinking about this

The most musically gifted violin prodigy of his generation, Yehudi Menuhin was one of the defining figures in 20th-century culture. Jessica Chastain posting a video of Augustin Hadelich performing a work for solo violin by Eugène Ysaÿe? Swoon!
#Jessica Chastain#Augustin Hadelich#Eugène Ysaÿe#I've heard Hadelich live#he's a genius#and he strikes me as someone with a big heart#and a beautiful soul#Why?#because when I heard him perform#Tchaikovsky's violin concerto#and the audience broke out into applause#after the first movement#which is a big faux pas in classical music#he was genuinely flattered and appreciative#and not at all an asshole about it#the man loves making music!
