Honestly I had kinda left the fic on the back burner a lil bit because I got a little overwhelmed with all of the storylines and character arcs.

(And then Challengers came out and I was like “what if I made this into a Challengers dynamic?”)

I think you are super spot on in your impression! I think Steve falls in love with the idea of love and he's def fallen in love with the public relationship he and minx have! I think the sweet spot for them will be if they end up in conflict with each other because Minx definitely needs a little fire in her partner and Steve needs to see that Minx is flawed!

Here's a very short (but very dramatic) sneak peek of the next chapter from Steve's POV:

STEVE: She showed up at my door the night after they got back to LA. Part of me got really excited, thinking that she was there to, I dunno, tell me that she missed me and that she wanted to be with me? It was stupid, I was stupid to think that.

She asked me if we could talk in private and I took her up to my room. I tried to make small talk, you know, ask about her trip and all that but she could barely string together a sentence she seemed so nervous. I had never seen her so nervous before then.

Hi love! Yes! I’m a little behind because quite frankly my new boss is an incompetent buffoon and I’ve spent the last 3 months doing his job and I’m kinda burnt out. But! I’m working in it!

Here’s a sneak peak though!!

You weighed the possibilities of a painless, quick, meeting and while the odds were decidedly low, you were still fairly optimistic stepping into the Starcourt offices that morning.

“Hey! Minx! My office, now!”

Murray’s voice bellows down the hallway as soon as he spots you making your way through the door. His tone is brimming with anger and while you’ve never been scared of Murray, you are unsettled, especially hearing the vitriol dripping off your new “nickname”.

When you don’t move right away Murray snaps out, “NOW!” and you’re scurrying down the hall if anything, to quell his dramatics.

“What the hell is your issue, kid?” Murray exclaims as soon as he slams the office door shut.

You stare at him, mouth agape, “My issue? What the hell is your issue, Murray? I literally just got here and you’re already yelling. There’s absolutely no reason for the yelling.”

“No reason?” Murray clamors as he shuts the office door behind him, “No reason? I beg to differ, here sweetheart. I think you hooking up with Munson is definitely a good enough reason to yell right now,” this last part is said lowly, through gritted teeth but the impact is felt regardless with the shock echoing through your body.

“What do you mean?” You ask, feebly and far too late—your face is already displaying parnic.
