hi! i hope you don't mind me hopping in your ask box-

i saw your tbosas mentors' kids time travel post and your mossring post and my brain is mashing those two together

so iphigenia and diana are in the treehouse, genie is working up the nerve to confess, when they're suddenly interrupted by a girl they've never seen before (surpise! it's solasta :D)

who needs a confession when you're daughter is right there!

lots of mushy feels between diana and genie, before solasta has to cut them off- 1) bc her parents being all lovey dovey in front of her is Not It and 2) because she came back here with a mission (okay, it was kind of an accident, but still...)

she sort of walked in on the other kiddos building the time machine, and a innocent question about what they were doing turned into them hastily trying to get her out of the room, and really, that machine wasn't very functional in the first place.

as far as solasta knows, she was the only one sent back because she woke up here alone (she's not alone, the other kiddos were just brought to where their respective parents are).

so now diana and iphigenia are on board the plan to Make Sure They Stay Alive And Also Their Kids Are Born (it's a long name, they'll workshop it later)

diana/genie: we're together :D diana/genie: also we have a daughter now other mentors w/ kids in tow: funny you should mention that...

same thing with coriolanus getting suspicious of the kids, but this time all their parents (who are in the know and do not plan on letting coriolanus know they're from the future) are covering for them. but they're not very good at coming up with lies on the spot so... :/

cue coriolanus losing his mind trying to work out wtf is going on while the kids get up to various hijinks because they keep accidentally mentioning things that don't exist (yet) as their parents desperately try to pretend that "they're just messing around, there's nothing suspicious about what they said at all, ha ha..."

things get a bit complicated when the 10th hunger games roll around bc the kids still don't have a time machine back. (but solasta meets her namesake and june ruby meets her mom! except now the kiddos are on a new plan: End The Hunger Games)

oh my gosh, i love this idea!!

i feel like by the time the hunger games roll in, coriolanus probably would’ve figured out who the kids actually were, so what if the kids rolled in a bit later?

maybe a week or two before the hunger games?

so, instead of it being the academy orientation where they find their parents, the friend group jr. (i’m going to start calling them that now haha) finds their parents individually.

athena finds festus and persephone on one of their dates maybe, achilles finds livia and arachne in the capitol library, plutarch and aelia find their dads together while they were hanging out. their moms were nowhere to be seen, but they were too, together.

they all desperately explain to their parents. thankfully for athena and achilles, their parents seem to catch on, though for livia and arachne it took some time for them to believe achilles. (it’s also the fact that the kids look so much alike to their parents too)

hilarius and felix are confused until plutarch and aelia tell them to call clemensia and vipsania, and vip and clem just know that they’re telling the truth.

this is stupid but i feel like this is how they all found out solasta was there:

*at an academy event* solasta [with genie & diana]: aelia??? achilles??? athena??? plutarch??? the friend group jr.: sol???

and it’s worse when albert canville and june ruby snow gets roped in.

albert and june ruby being there causes more chaos and due to june ruby’s striking resemblance to coriolanus, (from the hair to the pale skin to the blue eyes) people have been suspicious.

aelia and albert get into an argument and everyone’s just like: yeah, aelia’s definitely felix and clem’s daughter.

and then, the hunger games roll in, and june ruby meets her mom and sol meets her namesake, and they try to end the hunger games for good.

in my head, i’m thinking that the kids don’t manage to end the hunger games, but they could end the 10th one.

the way they do this is that they tell the tributes in the zoo that there’s going to be a bombing, and they use that as an advantage to escape.

albert with the help of his mom, io, builds a time travel machine back and they all make it back.

they forget that they had another mission- to make sure coriolanus doesn’t go crazy and kill their parents in the future, so they go back and do it all over again.

so, i've had this thought for a while about the Time Travelling Kiddos™ and thought you'd be interested in it!

in the other scenario where instead of the original 4 (aelia, achilles, athena, and plutarch), it's seneca, marcella, sol, and antonia, i suddenly had the imagery where sol (or anyone really, but sol is the most fitting for me!) has a sort of superpower.

like, she can show a memory that's hers or someone else's.

she shows the original 4's memories, from when they were fourteen when their parents just died, to them in their original timeline.

there's a memory where the fourteen year olds original 4 are talking about their newly dead parents.

it goes like this:

plutarch: who do you think killed them?

athena: kill? the cops said all of their deaths were accidents.

aelia: don't be stupid, thena. it was murder. there's no way all our parents die consecutively.

achilles: so, they were all murdered by the same person.

plutarch: yeah. who do you think did it? june ruby's dad? he always seemed suspicious..

athena: come on, plutarch. he would never do that. he's our parents' best friend.

aelia: wait, he's onto something here. there must be a reason why my parents stopped hanging around him a few weeks before their death.

livy and pippa definitely shed a few tears at the memories. the others almost did too, but they held back :)

hi gigi! sorry it took so long to respond to this- but i've finally written out my time travelling kiddos thoughts! also love the idea of solasta having a power to show memories!

so i know that solasta's power wasn't the main point of your thoughts, but it got me thinking- what if their time travelling machine was the cause of those powers? like if she can show memories, that has to be events from the past, and i could see a scenario when they are first building the time machine where things go 'wrong' and the machine malfunctions, except not quite.

as the kiddos are trying to rewrite their plans to build a new time machine & work out what exactly went wrong, sol is thinking about the exact moment that the time machine imploded and accidentally ends up displaying that memory. cue a freak out over where the heck did that hologram come from, were we being recorded, oh that's not a projection, what is happening??

it takes a bit to realize that not only is solasta the one doing it, but she's able to do it her other memories if she focuses on the event enough. it takes more trial and error to work out that she can also show memories from other people, but it usually requires the person to be actively thinking of the memory before sol can show it. safe to say that the kiddos realize that this new power can help them with their og plan.

there is a bit of talk about building the original machine again to see if they can all get powers, but it is ultimately decided that it's too dangerous. after all, none of them know what exactly caused the powers in the first place. maybe it was how they built the machine, maybe it was something else entirely. solasta was just one of the people in the room when the machine backfired, and she wasn't even the one standing closest to it, so who knows what happened?

anyway, seneca, marcella, sol, and antonia ultimately get a working time machine going and off to the past they go! it's much easier to convince their parents of what's going on when sol has a power than can quickly explain their story- who needs physical proof in the face of projected memories of their older selves, married and with a family? they're pretty devastated that their kids had to lose them at fourteen, and spent the last four years as orphans, especially when there was no war to cruelly take them away- no, it was just a power-hungry classmate. and now facing their children who are the same age as them with stories of their school years that future them never got a chance to live and support them through.

or potential alt scenario is coriolanus being nosy about the new transfer students & solasta learning that her power has more to it than they first thought. sol is showing the convo of the kiddos discussing their parents' deaths, when coriolanus (snooping) comes near enough for her power to trigger, showing some future (past for the kiddos, but future for the mentors) memories of snow being very responsible for their parents deaths. if the memories of the kiddos speculating that snow killed their parents was devastating, then actually seeing how he committed the act (either by poison or by hiring people to murder) is angering. coriolanus can't bolt bc by that point the kiddos' parents have realized he's there & also everyone involved is pretty horrified that their classmate/friend could so callously decide that they were a liability that has to die.

fix its all around bc solasta has shown memories of the future, and the kiddos' parents have decided that if their future starts to looks like it is starting to head towards that future, then they are going to be 'handling' coriolanus themselves. they will be growing up with their children, thank you very much. the kiddos are very worried about june ruby, but their parents assure them that they will make sure everything works out, and they make sure it does! with the addition of sol's power, it makes it pretty easy to dig up dirt on gaul & get her ousted from her position by recording sol's projected memory, pretending that it was 'hidden camera footage' from the event, and sharing it with the right people. highbottom is able to end the hunger games without gaul pushing so hard for its continuation.

so no tenth hunger games (or any ones past that) & the kiddos parents are keeping a close eye on coriolanus. the social pressure causes his grades to slip a bit, not much, but enough for clemensia to take the lead in academics. he doesn't get the plinth prize, and has to sign up as a peacekeeper to make the ends meet. coriolanus is seething all the while, but it's where he meets lucy gray & falls for her hard. pretty shortly after, sejanus goes 'wtf coryo, why didn't you just ask for help' (since he was not informed about the time travelling kiddos or the news they brought) & provides some assistance so he isn't trapped in the twenty years of service. but other mentors are still high-alert around him though, so coriolanus isn't going to be going around murdering anybody.

anyway, snowbaird is together, sejanus lives, nobody dies in the arena bombing that never happened in this timeline, and all the would-be tenth games tributes are off living their lives in their respective districts bc the games have been cancelled :)

(also, any ideas for how the mentors might meet the kids that would have been their tributes had the timeline not changed? the thought of persephone never getting to meet mizzen is making me sad, but i couldn't think of a way they'd get to meet unless pippa travelled to the districts or mizzen came to study in the capitol...)

of course! i am all for any opportunity to yap about time travel :)

since you wrote a post where the four kiddos time travel and albert/june ruby show up after, what about one where the opposite happens?

so albert canville is building the time machine and the others mostly leave him alone to do this thing because trying to help him means being in the same room as him, and being in the same room (aka albert and aelia getting into fights) was the reason the machine had to be scrapped and rebuilt 3+ times. so yeah- the kiddos are helping, but at intermitted intervals that usually only has 1-2 of them in the room at the same time

in one of those times albert is working alone, june ruby wanders in and questions what's going on. he deflects for a while, which only makes june ruby more suspicious. the fight gets physical enough for the machine to break. again. dang it!

except...it doesn't just break.

because it was close enough to completion for it to kind of work. when the rest of the kiddos check in on the room, they find the scraps of the machine and no one in there. they're disappointed, but don't realize what's gone wrong yet. they have plenty of blueprints because of how many times they've had to rebuild and figure they can just get started on building it again.

but albert doesn't show up. june ruby is missing. and they put the pieces together that oh no that exploded time machine did work and now they've got to figure out when they got sent to for a rescue + damage control.

meanwhile, albert and june ruby have landed in the past. except june ruby hasn't realized that yet, so when professor demigloss asks who she is, she assumes that she just hasn't seen this professor before and has no reason to lie. demigloss raises an eyebrow at "june ruby snow", even more so when albert drags her away to fill her in on the details because if they're gonna be in this together, then he doesn't want to end up not-born.

so he spills about her dad killing achilles/plutarch/aelia/athena's parents, and that they're in the past. they figure out what year (it's the mentors' senior year) and slip in. albert uses a fake name, june ruby plays it off and deflects all questions about her being a snow. she does look a lot like coriolanus, but she can explain those away as being 'snow' traits. tigris also has blonde hair/blue eyes, right?

that's not to say coriolanus isn't super suspicious though, and he's trying very hard to dig into who her parents are. albert, being albert, tells everyone that june ruby is "crassus snow's love child while he was out in the districts" and june ruby barely restrains herself from decking him because she doesn't want to change things. what if telling coriolanus that he's her dad somehow ends with him not getting with her mom?? she can't risk that.

so june ruby grits her teeth and goes yup, that's right, crassus snow did indeed have a child with a district woman and had her, not a lie at all. it's not a very convincing show, but the concept itself does throw coriolanus enough to go "...wait..." and off to go confirm it for himself by tracking down some records. he's not off their case, but they do get a break.

albert and june ruby are having a hard time trying to convince their classmates' parents that they need to be wary of coriolanus while also not giving anything away about the time travel on account of 1) they don't like eachother so working together is disastrous and 2) the mentors aren't about to trust these random transfers.

what are they supposed to say? june ruby go to her dad or mom for obvious reasons, and she can't go to the other mentors either. how is she supposed to warn them ("sorry my dad kills you guys in the future" won't cut it). since albert isn't really friends with the kiddos, he can't exactly tell the mentors anything personal that might convince them that really, he knows their family, they can trust him. plus, his own parents (io/urban) aren't in a relationship, they're in their academic-competition-slash-hate-eachother stage, so he can't even go for his parents.

and, since a position where none of the mentors/their parents would take them in, they don't have a place to live either. it's the most disaster bonding experience of their lives. they're definitely not friends at the end of it, but there's a begrudging understanding that keeps them working together so they don't end up in deep trouble.

when the mentors' kiddos finally arrive, there are two reactions: 1) coriolanus essentially going i knew you were lying about being my father's love child! and 2) the other mentors going "oh, so you've wrapped up some of your friends into your narrative" (they don't believe those are their kids at first bc of the impression june ruby and albert gave them, but that quickly changes because yeah, okay, they see it now. wow, the resemblance...)

coriolanus gets decked and everyone is warned. coriolanus throws a fit, but the other mentors don't want to die before their (future) kids are even adults, so they're keeping a close eye on him to make sure he stays in line. this does end up with him still getting close with lucy gray bc she doesn't know about the time travelling kiddos and, as such, is the first person who isn't scrutinizing his every move.

the other mentors start to loosen up when coriolanus realizes the risk to lucy gray's life that the games cause. the other mentors pitch in to help end the games because if this is coriolanus's redemption arc, then they should probably encourage that to keep him off the evil path. june ruby is still born. all the other kiddos too. (the other mentors do fill lucy gray in on the whole 'future kids warned about murder-y coriolanus' (after june ruby is born just to be safe) and she's definitely not going to allow coriolanus to go evil)

so crisis averted & happy endings for all! :D

hi, backpacks!! hope you don't mind the message, but i just had an idea that i'd love to share w you! i was thinking of a scenario two (or three, since we have your' time travelling kiddos take) and what if it was marcella friend, sol moss-ring, and antonia ring-anderson, and seneca crane (arachne's nephew & aelia's bf) who time travelled?

marcella and aelia hate each other, lol. and she's only there because her gf (antonia) told her to. and i'm thinking that it was sol's idea, since she's super duper kind. (also her secret crush on plutarch haha)

i imagine the four of them are just forward with it and go up to the friend group and go like: we need to talk.

it takes a lot of convincing for the friend group to believe them. somehow, they do.

and imagine how awkward it is for seneca telling your gf's dead father that your dating their daughter, so i imagine seneca just goes: er um uh i'm aelia's friend? (he only mentions aelia and not the other kids and he has a tone which suggests that maybe he's not just her friend which is suspicious 👀)

felix would be like: 🤨 ok? and clemmie would be like: ooh, friend ☺️☺️☺️☺️

also, seneca, marcella, sol, antonia definitely tell them about their childrens' love lifes and their 'problems'. like: er, president ravinstill put aelia in therapy. achilles and athena definitely have a crush on each other. plutarch's doing drugs. also they all have a smoking addiction. and the friend group is horrified. absolutely horrified, haha.

ayyy more time travelling kiddos!!

okay so assuming it’s the main kiddos who built the machine already (but just haven’t time travelled yet), maybe aelia tells seneca about the plan and seneca wants to do something for her. getting her parents back by preventing the guy who killed them from every becoming evil - that would be a nice gift right? but seneca is not exactly sneaky, and he hasn’t the first clue about how to go about actually using the time travel machine.

so he’s still working that out when in comes sol, who has a pretty similar idea, except she actually has a plan. marcella gets wrapped up into it because she spots seneca and is sure he’s up to something - she plans on foiling whatever it is (because she doesn’t like him and is sure that he’s probably screwing something up), except antonia keeps the peace for long enough to allow sol to explain what’s going on.

antonia is in to help with the ‘preventing murders’ plan. marcella would be fine with the plan if seneca wasn’t there. seneca has zero (0) plans of leaving. sol has to diffuse the situation before a fight breaks out and gets everyone to settle down with the ‘compromise’ that they could all talk to the main kiddos and properly work out a plan.

surprise, surprise - that doesn’t happen.

seneca wanted to make this a nice surprise, so he’s not telling aelia he’s getting involved until her parents have been brought back. marcella and aelia hate eachother, so she’s not approaching either (and antonia might be able to get her girlfriend to be civil, but she knows well enough not to provoke a situation by purposefully bringing marcella and aelia together). and with sol’s crush on plutarch, she’d rather not accidentally embarrass herself in front of plutarch with his young parents as witnesses (she decides she can confess to plutarch after his parents murder his undone - whether she actually does is up to debate)

so they all sneak back to the time machine and go back in time. but since they snuck back at different times, they don’t realize the others are back in the past until later. marcella and antonia are doing pretty well at being subtle, right up until they’re confronted with seneca. marcella and seneca draw both attention & mention things they definitely should not know during the ensuing argument of ‘what are YOU doing here?’

sol gets wrapped up into it because she was just quietly befriending her parents under the disguise of a ‘new transfer student’ and now she has to awkwardly explain that ‘heyyyy i’m actually your daughter, these are my classmates from the future i’m from, it’s all true, i’m not crazy i swear’. somehow, coriolanus misses this argument (maybe he’s off somewhere with sejanus, idk)

so those four have filled in the mentors who were present (diana, genie, arachne, felix, clemmie, livia, vipsania, hilarius), even if they’re skeptical about it still. so seneca starts off by trying to make a better impression on felix and clemensia by telling them about their daughter - explaining aelia and what she looks like and what her personality is like. he rambles to aelia’s parents quite a bit before he realizes, that oh, these are aelia’s parents, and panics.

clemmie: you seem to know her well

seneca: yeah! she’s my - uhhh.

seneca: she’s my friend. we’re really good friends. haha… ouo’’’’’

felix: hmmm… >:\

anyway, the kiddos should definitely be filling in the mentors with why they’re here, except arachne/livia are the gossip queens and now that they’ve gotten a bit of detail from seneca, they start pressing for more. the conversation gets derailed very quickly into all the drama that’s going on in the academy. sol says a bunch of flattering things about plutarch to try to get vipsania and hilarius’s favor (she wants her maybe-future-boyfriend’s parents to like her after all!) and it works out a lot better for her than seneca’s attempt with felix/clemmie.

diana is vibing with her niece and a bit gushing over the fact that antonia and marcella are dating. “aw, you’re with florus and palmyra’s kid?? i guess i should talk with them more if our families are going to get married… :DDD”

the issue with these four not telling anyone that they were time travelling AND taking too long not actually doing the thing they came back for is that the main four kiddos (aelia, plutarch, achilles, athena) show up as ‘transfers’ (it’s not the most creative excuse, but in their defense, they didn’t know that others can already used that excuse before them).

aelia: seneca???

seneca: ….hi….

once those four are all caught up on how long they’ve been there and what they’ve already said (the main four are not impressed that sol, antonia, marcella, and seneca haven’t actually stopped coriolanus from anything), they join in the convo. aelia does not have the same reservations about keeping their relationship a secret from her parents.

felix: boyfriend, you say?? >:0

now that there’s eight of them, there’s enough of a commotion to draw the attention of the rest of the mentors over the following week (no way of keeping a secret that big for very long) and it’s basically an open secret among the mentors (but kept from the staff, because no one wants gaul to catch wind of the time travel stuff)

after the kiddos realize how horrified their parents are getting at their regular gossip, they start to make up things - particularly about coriolanus. lots of terrible things said with a complete sincerity, because they figure they can scare him out of doing bad things if they implying they may or may not ruin his life and all his plans if he can’t just be content with his nice life with his wife and daughter (both names they do not mention, just in case).

i like to think the kiddos stay for longer just to bond with their parents more in this one, just because their arrival was less of a mission and more of a gossip session. and everything works out because now that the mentors have met their kids, they’re going to be way more attentive to make sure that they get to be part of their kids’ lives. if coriolanus wants to kill them, well, he might just be killed first, because with all this bonding, there is NO WAY they are going to be separated from their future family easily.
