Not every newly recruited sailor came as a stranger to Shay when Gist went looking for a new crew for the Morrigan. There is one he knew long before Gist introduced each other, and this sailor ( whose name is Gavin ), used to be Shay's father's first-mate.

Gavin has always been a very good friend of Shay’s father. They met long before they moved to New York with their respective wives, and tbh it’s also safe to say that their relationship was close to similiar to Shay and Liam’s one. Besides, being a family friend, Gavin also took an important role in Shay’s childhood as well. He always considered Shay like some sort of nephew, and he was the one to teach him a few tricks about sailing.

When tragedy struck and Shay’s father lost his life, Gavin was one of the few survivors that managed to return by their families in New York. He offered to become Shay’s legal guardian, knowing that the lad was an orphan now, but Shay refused and the two never saw each other again. That until, years later, a certain explorer came to him and asked if he was interested in joining a certain Captain Cormac’s crew. ;) Of course he couldn’t refuse the chance to sail with a Cormac again.

HI TRICK TELL ME ABOUT THE MORETTI SIBS PLS AND THNK YOU

We have Lyle (my beloved). He's the oldest, arguably has the most trauma, his dad died when he was 14 (a very long, not pretty story), and his mom died when he was 21, leaving him to take care of his 14 year old twin siblings, Artemis and Oliver. His fc is Luke Powell, and I love him a lot. Then we have Artemis (Missy), who is ten minutes older than her brother, and six and a half years younger than Lyle, was kidnapped when she was six, was missing for two years until she escaped and Lyle found her which totally leads into the very long messy not pretty dad story, and after that, she and Lyle have been inseparable. (her fc is Ryleigh Hawke) And finally we have Oliver. He's the least traumatized of the bunch, kinda watched everything happen to his brother and sister and dad and didn't really process what it did or how out impacted him bc he was young. He's trans, came out at 15, right before his mom passed and has been a good noodle ever since. How they relate to lone star is that Lyle joined the 252 after TK did, he was TK's probie, and is a year younger than him, and because of Lyle's past, and just because the 252 was pretty prestigious, lyle isn't really feel like he fit in there, so he found comfort in TK, and TK found comfort in Lyle. They're besties tbh. Well one day there was an explosion, Lyle saves TK's life, TK winds up laid up for awhile, and since his apartment isn't exactly accessible, he winds up spending 9 months at Lyle's place recovering from a compound fracture and third degree burns, and they kinda just became this dysfunctional family. in the au that im currently attached to, lyle eventually follows tk down to Texas because missy got a scholarship and an internship as a junior meteorologist at one of the news stations, so they transfer, and after Tim passed, and TK moved to EMS, Owen was already looking for another person to come in, and since he had already worked with Lyle, he hired him to work at the 126 and the bros are bros again. If you want more detail onto their backstory, you can let me know. I just have to say that it can get really dark and triggering for some people, so I opted to gloss over it for the initial post. please continue to ask about my moretti sibs it makes my day okay ily
