My ‘The Big Bang Theory’ Rankings
Seasons 1 - 2: I haven’t watched all the episodes in these seasons, as it doesn’t really interest me because they were still trying to figure out the characters, so they feel rather one dimensional to me. Though, there are some cute Sheldon episodes/moments for sure! Mainly he and Penny had cute banter and chemistry!
Season 3: For a season without Amy, it is actually really good - well for TBBT. There are so many of my favorite Sheldon episodes and moments in this season! Also Raj was more prevalent as a character. It seems like they finally found their voice as a show and established their vibe. It is super fun and funny! I mean there are few snags still, but overall it’s a good one.
Seasons 4 - 5: Literally only watching for the Shamy! Their story arc and characterizations is what elevates what would otherwise be a pretty mediocre bunch of seasons. I don’t know why they took a nosedive with all the other storylines and characters. Maybe they only had enough braincells for Shamy?? I mean - fair. But literally everything is crap - Leonard and Penny’s on and off again situationship (their drama was SO ANNOYING), Howard and Bernadette’s whole thing (like what was even their point?? It wasn’t until they became a family that I found their characters and stories had any purpose, e.g. Howard actually becoming a man and learning to be the father he didn’t have. Bernadette’s character became funnier too in later seasons, even if she never was my favorite.) Raj’s characterization was instantly thrown out the window for an absurd string of increasingly bizarre scenarios that were really pathetic. (Why didn’t they keep him and Lucy together as a couple?? I’ll never understand that.) Too many stupid, puerile sex jokes, politically incorrect jokes, cringy nerd jokes, and not nearly enough science. Just give me the Shamy! … who were so perfect, of course! Early Shamy in the beginning of their courtship was really special. ❤️
Seasons 6 - 11: This to me is where the show really shines the best! Each of these seasons just gets increasingly better and better, until it culminates in the Royal Wedding of Weddings! 🦢✨ Raj’s character, unfortunately, doesn’t improve much, but that is its one downside. I love rewatching these seasons so much! I mean mainly for the Shamy (although I never rewatch The Hiatus) but the other character stories get more interesting, as Leonard/Penny and Howard/Bernadette become more established. There is so MUCH more science, as we actually get to see the characters doing their respective jobs. And of course, Sheldon and Amy developing their Nobel Prize winning “super asymmetry” model which perfectly and symbolically represented their journey together as a couple. To me The Big Bang Theory is literally about Sheldon and Amy’s love story, that is what the title refers to, imo. This show will always be the greatest rom-com ever told, following the patterns and story beats of that genre. That‘a why these season are the “meat” of the show.
Season 12: After experiencing the high of seeing newly-wedded Shamy life and their eventual overcoming obstacles to achieve the Nobel Prize, this season is mostly a dud. For the final season of a beloved sitcom, it is actually pretty disappointing in all respects. It is boring even in many parts. It is like they didn’t actually know what to do with the characters at this point in the game (even though I feel like the show could have written itself, it had everything, but whatever) - other than building towards Sheldon Cooper’s inevitable Nobel Prize win. Weirdly, that meant they suddenly developed a HUGE interest in Raj’s character, like “Oh yeah! We need to actually DO something with this guy before this thing ends!” And his story with Anu was really good and developed his character in unexpected and wonderful ways. However, of course, in the season finale they were like: “JK! We are resetting him to factory settings! Har Har Har!” - which completely nullified literally everything they had built in regards to his character - so, there’s that. sigh.
Anyway, did I mention Shamy?? Because that’s what this whole shabang is all about! 😍😍😍

HII! I just entered the shamy fandom, (um i’m super super late to it tho lol) like days ago since got horribly fixated on tbbt and i found your acc whilst looking for shamy fics, (AMAZING STUFF BTW)
anyways
There was an episode in tbbt probably s9/8/10? I don’t remember but, amy is asking sheldon what kind of movie he’d like to watch and she suggests comedy or drama, and he responds that he alreadly laughed and saw someone cry that day, (obviously amy being the one that had to go through those)
How do you think that scenario went down? Like how did she stub her foot, when, where, how did sheldon handle it after his laughter died down
It sounds like a silly short kinda drabble idea and id like to hear your thoughts
Hello! Welcome to the fandom! I feel like I joined late in 2021, so it makes me really happy to hear there are still new people joining now. It's never too late! And thank you so much for reading my fics!
The episode you're talking about is from season 11, The Tesla Recoil. This is maybe a kind of boring take, but I assume Amy stubbed her toe just on some furniture around their apartment, the coffee table seems like a likely culprit. Judging by the fact that Sheldon was still laughing when they brought it up and by how Amy spoke to him, I don't think he was very comforting to her after it happened. But a little bit later in that scene they have this exchange:
Tumblr media
If he actually does Google Mrs. Edison, he'll find out that Thomas Edison's first wife died and he later remarried. And maybe this information would give him pause. Remember he and Amy are engaged here. I could see indirectly considering the possibility of her dying being the thing that prompts him to make up for his earlier reaction and give her some comfort and affection.
Then again, I could also see him accidentally stubbing his toe on the same thing later that night and only then conceding that maybe it's not so funny after all.

I know The Big Bang Theory is not very popular on here and it has been accused of all the -isms and phobias in existence but I still very much enjoyed the first seasons. However, like every sitcom it declined in quality in the later seasons. I remember once, when I was only a casual viewer watching it sporadically and not in order, switching from a season 1 episode on one channel to a season 11 episode on another channel and thinking: "Wow, is this even the same show??"
Now, upon rewatching I am on season 8 and I realized that this is the point where the show started going downhill. Not only did they replace most of the nerdy science stuff with relationship drama, there is a bigger issue. And this issue is not unique to TBBT, many sitcoms suffer with this (especially That 70s Show) and that is character flanderization (which means reducing characters into one or two personality traits) or maybe even better said: seemingly random changes in personalities or some characters in order to serve the plot. When it should be the other way around- the plot should come naturally from who these characters are. Let's take a closer look at this.
Penny started off as this sweet, naive bubbly girl that came into the big city doe-eyed and bushy tailed with big dreams. She had a bit of an edge and was sarcastic from the beginning, but in the later seasons she just becomes bitter and at times downright mean. I understand that her dreams not having come true made her bitter, but this change happened seemingly out of nowhere around seasons 5 and 6. She starts being bitter, snappy and irritable. The best example I can think of is from season 8 when Sheldon tells her some fun facts and she angrily tells him to shut up, when in the early seasons she was always interested to learn something more and was even fascinated by their math on the board in the pilot.
Bernadette started off as this nice normal girl but I guess as she became the series regular, writers just had to give her some kind of a personality and what we ended up with was a bossy girl constantly yelling at people and ordering them around. At first it was fine but they flanderized her so much in the later seasons she became super unlikable, at times unbearable.
Amy was just Sheldon in a skirt at first but they did a complete 180 on her personality and made her this horndog. I mean this growth was not that bad, she became more empathetic and human, even explaining to Sheldon why his behavior is bad and making him a better person as well, but I just wish it didn't come so much out nowhere. There could be an explanation for it- being friends with Penny and Bernadette changed her, but it could have been a more natural and gradual change.
The one that pisses me the most is Stuart. He started as this a bit self-deprecating but still funny and charming guy, who was even suave enough to pick up Penny but ended up being a pathetic loser whose dog ran away, whose therapist killed himself, who lost everything good going on in his life and overall was a big Debby downer. Again, completely out of nowhere! Now that I think about it, it's probably because the guys grew up and found girlfriends, so they needed a new pathetic guy who can't get a girl for the jokes, but it wasn't funny, it was just cringe and tragic to watch.
Out of all the characters, Sheldon, Howard and Raj are the only ones who had some kind of positive growth (even though Raj still somehow ended up single, which pisses me off). Leonard at least didn't get completely flanderized, but he stagnated. Didn't move anywhere in his career or accomplish anything noteworthy. The show acted as if him getting the girl he has been simping for, is the best achievement of his life.

I know The Big Bang Theory is considered cringe but anyway the bit where Amy’s considering returning her wedding dress because her friends didn’t like it but Sheldon comes in, sees her in it, and immediately gasps and says “Wow! You look beautiful!” that’s love written right baby! also when he says “Why would you return it? You look like a pile of swans!” that’s just so sweet

TBBT Ladies! ✨💚
With Bernadette on bed rest I really miss the scenes with my three favorite girls together. Girl's nights were always one of my favs things (and if Raj joins it, I can´t ask for more). Now I can´t wait to see the girl´s wedding preparations, and to the big bachelorette party for Amy, (Maybe a trip to Las Vegas?. A girl can dream, right?).
Hope you like it and have a wonderful day!! 😘😘

Rhetorical Ink Reviews: The Big Bang Theory, “The Novelization Correlation!”
**NOVEL SPOILERS BELOW**
Wait...we only have this episode for the month of February?!
WHAT THE EFF?!
Tumblr media
My Top Ten Thoughts on The Big Bang Theory, Season 11, Episode 15:
Tumblr media
10. Of course, Sheldon doesn’t like Will Wheaton playing Professor Proton...and I can’t say I disagree. He just doesn’t seem to fit the part, though, I’m also criticizing an actor playing a fictional character playing a fictional character...so...hm.
Tumblr media
At least Amy offered to watch it with him.
9. I WANT the keyboard that looks and sounds like a typewriter! PLEASE!
Tumblr media
8. “WHAAAAATTTT?!” Sheldon’s viseral growl at Howard being a cameo on Professor Proton is hilarious...and Amy is right about Sheldon being a big baby.
Tumblr media
7. I can relate to Leonard having visions about how he pictures himself in the book -- can we talk though about that scene of Leonard being the “detective hero?!” Stuart cracked me up, but the others along with Leonard playing the “badass” was so great!
Tumblr media
6. Howard and Sheldon go to apologize to Will Wheaton --which in a way backfires, because Will wants Amy on the show, and Sheldon is not sure how to handle that.
5. Oh, so Amy doesn’t want to be on Will’s show? Awww, because she thinks it’ll make him sad. And quit teasing, show: GIVE US THOSE TWO AT A DUELING PIANO BAR!
Tumblr media
4. Oh Snap -- Penny knows that Leonard based the character on her...Hmm...she didn’t seem as mad as I thought she’d be about it...uhm, yet.
3. Uhmm, also, how did Penny and Leonard’s actors keep a straight face doing that scene towards the end?! I would be cracking up!
And bonus points for Bev showing up to give psychological support to Leonard...although, NOOOO, she cannot play that character in his book!
Tumblr media
2. Sheldon trying to be nice is so...weird. Good to know it’s a ruse! Awww, he doesn’t want her to miss out on stuff because of him. #characterdevelopment!
1. “I’m going to bed!” “I’m going to scream on the roof.” These two. I love how Sheldon held in his jealousy and praised Amy until she went to bed and then vented! Aww, #stillcharacterdevelopment
Tumblr media
Overall, a good episode...but we seriously have to wait a MONTH for the new one?! Ahhh...

I'm finally at the last season of The Big Bang Theory ( hallelujah ) but I'll be very pissed if Raj doesn't end up with someone while Penny gave up the only thing she ever wanted just to get everything she never wanted

“Amy, I usually know exactly what to say. But in this moment I have no words. I guess I’m overwhelmed by you. In a good way. Not in the elevator in the Haunted Mansion way. Even if I can’t tell you now how I feel, I will spend my life showing you how much I love you”.
