I was waiting for a hilariously ill-advised vamp bite attempt from Astarion, but it never happened.

Instead, when I went up to him at camp he just. Told Zebulon he was a vampire. Really awkwardly. Zeb was fine with it.

“I, um. Have something to tell you about myself. It’s not a big thing! It’s a little thing! Don’t freak out. It’s just hard to work into a conversation. But. Um. I’m a vampire. That the tadpole is protecting from the sun. So. There it is.”

“Oh. Ok.”

“You’re not mad? Nobody’s bringing out the stakes?”

“I’m sorry, which of us has sleep-murdered? Not you. Believe me, it’s fine.”

So I recruited Karlach, and then Alfira showed up to my camp that night.

Wake up in the morning and my character has brutally killed her.

The squad was still like ‘we’re mad at you. But I guess it could be the tadpole’ even when I tried my best to say ‘it’s not the tadpole, guys! I have a legit disease’. Zeb is getting reverse meow-meowed against his will

And Wyll remains hornless. I'm thinking Mizora peeked out of the ground all ready to curse him, saw Zeb stabbing and went 'fuck this, I'm outta here'

Tavified and Dark Urged Zebulon

Made him a devotion paladin because it fits with his original Elder Scrolls backstory, but he's also from the Underdark so I'm not entirely sure how he found a Lawful knightly order in what appears to be Chaotic land. Anyway he’s gonna date Wyll and be angsty about it which is on-brand for him, and will again (attempt to) be much nicer than he appears

Being a drow is great

Zebulon in the goblin camp: MOVE, I'M G(r)AY

The goblin camp was SUCH a weird experience for Zebulon.

He:

-rescued Barcus Wroot from the mill, and discovered he can speak gnome but doesn’t know why

-had goblins falling over themselves to not upset him, and obeying after merely a glare. This felt familiar for some reason.

-talked to Minthara, the first drow he encountered since losing his memories, then proceeded to obliterate her in one lucky smite. She was evil but he was curious about her, so it was kind of unsatisfying. Also he stole her camp clothes so now he's going around camp with cleavage for days.

-had Abdirak torture him. It didn’t exactly help, but it was cathartic after the Alfira incident. Shadowheart was into it. Wyll was concerned.

-went to free Liam from Spike by saying he’d take over torturing him. Shadowheart and Lae’zel were united for once in being like ‘yess we’re gonna see some torture’. Wyll was mad. No torture actually happened.

-rescued Halsin, who admits to ‘trouble controlling the beast’.

Made camp in the temple and in the most eventful evening ever:

-found out about Gale’s orb deal. Now someone else has a mysterious and dangerous condition. Immediately took it seriously, yote the nearest artifact at him in a hurry. Gale ate a shirt.

-zeb had a fever. Was unsure if it was tadpole or durge-related. Lae'zel tried to murder him over it. He convinced her not to with the medical knowledge that he somehow has? Was it from killing people?

-went to sleep and dreamboi appeared. Dreamboi is modeled after Gaileth Vess, his dead husband in his TES version's backstory (not sure how he fits in here but he exists). Right now Zeb doesn't know who he is, but he was like 'you are the most gorgeous person I've ever seen, I feel like I already know you, but you want me to use the tadpole so I'm suspicious'.

-had Volo poke around his eye socket, then told him to fuck off when it became apparent he had no idea what he was doing. He was glad Volo left because he was worried about murdering him in his sleep

-Mizora is still not there and Wyll still has no horns. I think Zeb might have scared her off forever by killing Alfira the night she was supposed to appear

Next morning:

-Went with Halsin and they slaughtered the whole place together. Zeb was euphoric about this. It was like his ideal first date- meeting a hot guy who’s super nice and doing a bunch of murdering together that he doesn’t have to feel too bad about. He told Halsin he had a wonderful time killing, and Halsin’s response was 'you sound deranged'. He became a rat and left.

-they camped again before leaving and Lae'zel came onto him. He turned her down because gay with like 4 active crushes. She has a neutral relationship to him. Gale and Wyll, the guys he’s actually into, have a fair relationship and have made no moves.

Update: turns out she’s fine, and not mad at me thank god.

I wouldn’t necessarily mind it happening later on but if my character immediately becomes an oathbreaker because of this I’m beginning the killings

Update update: Fixed the problem. Mod fixer mod was no longer necessary after updates and it was interfering with anything that needed a dice roll in a conversation- figured that out when I couldn’t roll to headbutt Astarion or get Gale out of the portal.

Also I don’t appear to be an oathbreaker so yay

I think I worked out Zebulon’s BG3 version backstory. Tl:dr; appears in the underdark out of nowhere, raised by gnomes, is among the gnome paladins, then becomes an assassin among the drow, then the temple.

(some dark urge spoilers)

As a kid, Zebulon mysteriously turns up on the outskirts of a deep gnome town (with some duergar but it’s majority gnome). They’re terrified at first, worried his parents will come looking, but they never do. After much debate and the intervention of the local paladins, they keep him and raise him as one of their own.

He feels out of place (because he is) but overall he has a good time. He ends up needing a specially built house because he just keeps growing and the town is built for short people. And he gets too into the killing parts of paladin quests and the others admonish him and try to teach him how to rein it in.

Because he’s the dark urge of course it doesn’t end well.

Then he wanders off in a haze, and ends up among other drow.

He finds a sort of acceptance among the Lolth types because they don’t mind the murderousness as much. Because he has literally no background he starts as a lackey, but quickly becomes a sought-after mercenary/assassin.

Zeb doesn’t mind this, because he has more control over who he’s killing. He reasons if he kills for other people, then he’s really just the weapon. But he still doesn’t like killing indiscriminately. Basically every day he’s going around like ‘hey anyone got a contract? someone for me to kill? I’ll take maiming at this point please I’m desperate’

Eventually it gets too much for even them. He has everyone after him because he’s killed several people from each faction and they all want revenge/to remove this rogue element that’s cutting a bloody swath through several evil plans.

So he ends up at the temple of Bhaal. And he and Gortash have a weird thing.

And then he gets rekt by Orin and ends up on the nautiloid.

The only issue is how he re-became a Paladin after all that. Maybe Orin put his old oathbook and some paladin armour on him to taunt him. or because she knows he still feels guilty. Either to 'remind him he used to be weak', And waking up with no memories on the nautiloid, he rededicates himself to it not knowing what else to do. And then the rest is history.

PS: The book is tattered and bloodstained but still legible. It has little notes and addendums from his former squad members
