It definitely does in Lord of the Rings.

I just finished watching the Hobbit movies, and Galadriel and Taurnil are basically the only female characters in them, except minor characters like Lobelia Sackville-Baggins and Bard's daughters (as well as the woman of Dale who are told to hide in a hall during the Battle of the Five Armies, but decide to join the men in the fight anyway).

Strangely, I also feel this about Order of the Stick, at least initially. The main party is initially 4 men, 1 woman, and 1 gender-ambiguous elf (a running joke in the early comic which has eventually become a proper non-binary/androgynous character). But in the first book, the main villain and his head two minions, as well as four of the six members of the enemy adventuring party, are male, as is the ghost who haunts the main character. Most enemies also default to male over female, which we know because there *are* female designs for goblins in the comic. There's also the female sylph who appears for a few pages and becomes a recurring character later, but she's not much of an improvement.

(Spoilers ahead, by the way)

In the second book, that's *slightly* switched up: the first main villain is a female sorcerer and leader of a bandit clan, but most of the bandits, including the second in command, her father, are men. The dragon they fight is a young male, too. However, the true "villain" of the book is revealed partway through to be female when previously her identity had been hidden beneath a hood. Yet her master (not actually a villain), and his heir, are both men. At a later point in the story, there are a pair of assassins; both male.

The next book is a greater improvement. Although the villainous adventuring party from earlier in the story returns, this time with 5 male members out of 6 instead of 4, and a new characters of a swashbuckling scoundrel and oracle of the hidden valley are also men (although the latter is player for minor jokes; the main character remembers the oracle as a hot woman because the valley wipes your memory when you leave), the soldiers in the war that takes up a majority of the book seem mostly to be split evenly male and female, at least on the human side (the hobgoblins less so). Eight new semi-major characters are also introduced on the human side, for the purpose of allowing there to be to be characters to kill of to show that the villains are winning (or some to survive, because we won't expect that), and they are also 50-50 split.

Book 4 doesn't *really* have much in terms of new characters, but those there are are somewhat split. The orc leader and shaman are both men, as are the corrupt noble and his imp ally; but the real major character of a ninja is a woman. Similarly, two main resistance-member characters are of opposite genders, and the same with the major two Thieves Guild members; although the guild is more male-leaning, as are knock-off Victor Frankenstein and his knock-off Igor. But the dragon from book 2's mother is in the story... as are three male fiends, and three dead mages, only one of which was a woman.

Books 5 and 6 get better too. I really do suggest reading this comic, it's very well written, and as with all old webcomics, while the start was kind of meh, it quickly gets better. And it's still running today!

3. What work are you most proud of?

Whatever You Wish for You Keep! Taurnil approached me ages ago about it, and I'd been wanting to write more trans!Sanji. I'm mostly proud that I was finally able to finish it and that it came out as well as it did, and I love Taurnil's podfic for it.

I don't have a set writing playlist and I have a habit of writing at the strangest times in the strangest places, so I mostly listen to whatever's playing or nothing at all.
