slowely getting into the rythym of porgy....looks likely i'll end up really liking this one if i play it in the right mood but you know what that limited exploration at the start reminds me so much of? moon! moon feels super limiting when you start because you can only explore such a small section of town and for a very short time until you build up more LOVE and while that could be cumbersom and annoying for some people, it's really what builds up the world for you. Walking through the same streets as you learn the townsfolks day to day patterns and really try to see if you can spend that little bit more to hang out with them and see their story before rushing back to granny's house and getting a good night's sleep

Such good overbold runs...i've never gotten that many shot upgrades that way before and it was going sooooo smoothly on that first image loadout and then of course...stray toucan spider bullet that was right next to me ends it...I think i've seen the final boss once for like 2 seconds

Perusing through spriters resource (as you do on your day off) and came across a tile on the neo geo called "Crossed Swords" and hold a sec, that preview looks familiar lets go and check it on moby games for some screenshots and stuff an huh

This is looking familiar...lets see the gameplay in action huh?

Now what is it reminded me of I wonder...
So this is a game from 1991 that Valbrace has clearly taken inspiration from, I think some folks found a TIGSource forum post that had the more dungeon crawling aspects brainstormed out...neat to see a fictional title that would've existed in 1988 three years before this would've come out (is there much like it? Aside from Punch Out (1984) which was the first thing that came to mind?)
Really cool to find titles like this that UFO 50 seems to be drawing from and doing it's own thing with though. I feel this collection of games is super fascinating when you try and view it through this lens but it's also doing enough of its own thing you can't quite map it out to what would've been its peers in a way that makes much "sense"

it's taken up until now to realise the dot that appears on the map in barbuta is the skull...

i think one of the funnest parts of ufo50 is trying to see "who" made what...looking at the little info packet on the launcher screen on 'this was [this person's] first time in a designer role' or even just hitting the credits and seeing new names on there or something...real fascinating stuff!
