Sustainable Tourism and Canggu's Vibrant Tattoo Scene

Local leaders from Badung Regency in Bali recently gathered to discuss the potential establishment of tourism villages in Canggu district, responding to the area's rapid tourism growth over the past seven years. This surge in visitors has prompted concerns about preserving Canggu's cultural and heritage values.

Former Bali Governor, Made Mangku Pastika, advocated for recognizing Canggu's Traditional Village as an official tourism destination to manage it effectively and secure funding for cultural and environmental preservation. Pastika, joined by Canggu Traditional Village Head, I Wayan Suarsana, and Director of Baga Utsaha Padruwen Traditional Village, Ni Kadek Dwi Indah Paramita, highlighted the benefits of tourism while stressing the need for sustainability and improved living conditions for locals.

Paramita mentioned significant revenue generated by Baga Utsaha Padruwen Traditional Village since its establishment in 2022, contributing to village taxes. Waste management, a pressing issue, was also addressed by Suarsana, who outlined plans for waste processing and collaboration with entrepreneurs to make Canggu a model for waste management pending land acquisition.

Suarsana also outlined financial goals to increase the village's income for asset acquisition and economic improvement. Canggu's transformation into a tourism hub presents both challenges and opportunities for sustainable development, especially as Bali aims for culturally sensitive tourism practices.

The tattoo scene in Canggu is another aspect contributing to its unique culture and economy. Tattoo studios, known for their artistry and hygiene standards, attract tourists and support local artists. By promoting sustainable practices and Balinese motifs, these studios contribute to cultural preservation while providing employment opportunities. Integrating culture and sustainability ensures balanced tourism development in Canggu.

As Canggu evolves, its tattoo studios serve as examples of how creative industries can align with sustainable tourism, enhancing its appeal while respecting cultural and environmental values.

My inspiration;

Shiiitt man! Ik heb zoveel meegemaakt in de tattooscene en het mooie eraan is dat het telkens vernieuwend is. Een ding wat ik heb geleerd in het leven is dat verandering het enige is dat continu is. 

Ik ben een tijdje terug naar een tattoo convention geweest in Belgie: ‘Ink Mania’. Voor het eerst was ik aan de kant van de tattoo artiesten. Ik was dood nerveus dat wil je echt niet weten (ookal liet ik het niet blijken). Ik ben nog steeds een leerling en voor mij om daar te zijn tussen de tattoo artiesten met grote namen was voor mij like CREEPY AS F*CK!!! Gelukkig heb ik een hele lieve persoon in mijn leven die bij mij gerust stelde (echt de liefste persoon op de wereld.. maar ook echt!) dacht dat zulke mensen uitgestorven waren HAHA KIDDING. Back to the point;; Wat het gekke ervan is, is dat mensen vaak niet begrijpen dat zij ook maar mensen zijn. Ik kwam mensen van Ink masters Lage landen en Amerika tegen. Je zou zeggen dat ze een bepaalde arrogantie zouden hebben maar gelukkig ben ik er geen een tegen gekomen. Het mooie is dat wij allemaal daar een passie hebben en dat is ART & TATTOOS. Als tattoo artiest moet je bij een tattoo convention staan of zijn geweest want je wilt echt niet weten hoeveel inspirerende energieën daar lopen. Super gekke mensen but that’s what i like.

De tattoo convention heeft mij zoveel inspiratie gegeven en meer redenen gegeven waarom ik tot de inklife behoor :D. Super dankbaar voor mijn tattoo sifu of course for letting me know where my life is going to be till death aparts me haha.

Ohh en niet alleen dat ik ben op plekken geweest waar de energieën zo hoog en zo inspirerend zijn dat het mij altijd een BOOST aan nieuwe energie geeft en ik dan zulke random teksten ga schrijven;; 

I think for me i have found freedom in artistic ways… When i meet an creative person i instantly fall in love because i see their soul and their freedom. Their way of self expression. It gives me inspiration and allots of motivation. I hope i do that for people too some day :). The individuality in their soul and their way of thinking their view on the world and life itself. I do think i have a weak spot for artists in all kinds of way.. Like;; making music, making a drawing, making a poetry, making visuals for me it’s all one thing we have in common it’s that we are making A R T ! It comes from our soul and there is no right or wrong. It’s just that fire and not caring about what people think (IN THAT MOMENT). It gives me butterflies in my stomach and my mind is blown into the universe. It gives me shivers cuz i feel the energy. And if it depends on me i hope everybody will experience this feeling. Because in the end we have to love ourselves and what other people think about us is not relevant. All that matters is that you love yourself to the max and know who you are.

So yeahh i want to viberate positive and allots of inspirational energies. Wherever life will bring me i will embrace it.

Moving on through life because i am in love with life itself!
