Honestly i loved the ultimate spider-man version, he was the starting point to my long obsession with anything Spidey related (especially with you and your blog❤️)
it's insane now that you can say "ultimate spider-man" and i don't know if you mean the 2000s comics ultimate spider-man, the television ultimate spider-man, or the present ultimate spider-man.

if it's the ultimate comics version (objectively the best one) - then nice. good taste. very respectable and normal of you. he is very cute and i love him. but also want to wring his neck. which is the sign of a good peter parker.

funnily enough the thing that sparked my spider-man hyperfixation was actually an aerial silks artist in a circus who was dressed as spider-man.
yeah. i had watched the tobey maguire movies when i was a kid in the cinema but i didn't like them at the time (didn't appreciate them) (was too young) (thought tobey's face was weird) (didn't get it) and actually, funnily, had NO interest in seeing the andrew garfield movies at all because the cynical child i was said "why are they rebooting spider-man?? didn't they just make a spider-man like three years ago??" i literally had no interest in spider-man at all as a child. at all. i didn't get it. wasn't into it. didn't see tasm1 in the cinema. had no interest in spider-man at all until i saw that aerial silks artist gyrating around in his tight tights and thought "hm."
i started drawing spider-man before i started reading him. and actually, i started reading deadpool long before i started reading spider-man. deadpool was kind of the guy where i thought "if i ever get into comics, it'll probably be deadpool." i knew a lot more about deadpool. i saw all the memes on the internet at 13 years old and thought "haha yeah this guy is funny. not like spider-man. spider-man is lame and for babies. this guy is like spider-man but if spider-man was funny and cool and not for babies."
so when the day finally came where i said "today is the day im going to start reading comics", it was deadpool, not spider-man. but i kept running into spider-man in the comics and he wasn't lame and boring like i thought he was. he was funny and sharp and kind of bitchy actually. and so i kind of liked him. and started reading him.
first i read all the spider-man and deadpool team-ups, first. because i was eating my way through all the deadpool i could. so i read like, all of deadpool before i started diving into spider-man. and i think i started watching the ultimate spider-man cartoon here-or-there before i started picking up the spider-man comics.
eventually i watched tasm1 and then tasm2 in theatres, and i kind of fell in love with andrew. i loved him so much more than tobey. he was just so sad and pitiful but also very pretty, and just – i don't know, there was this indie charm to tasm1 that i kind of loved. not all the hollywood melodrama of the raimi movies - it felt like a real messy, dumb kid who was figuring it out. and i loved him.
a baby boy. baby.
so i think andrew was the peter parker i fell in love with. i started writing him after i watched tasm2 - he's the blueprint for 9319 peter - i hadn't read very much spider-man when i started writing ask-spiderpool - i'd eaten through all of the deadpool canon, but tasm was kind of the springboard for how i approached peter. it was meant to be andrew. i started diving into spider-man comics as i wrote the blog, and started from #1, way back in the 60s. and just fell in love with peter parker more and more the more i read him. but i think andrew will always be my first love. he was the blueprint, and i think - no matter how much of 616 canon i adopt into 9319 - the peter parker i write is always mostly andrew, but recontexualised.

bottoms: if you want a gay high school comedy, just imagine glory in ayo edebiri's role and em jay in havana rose liu's and you'll have a great time.
the runaways: if you want a drama that feels like a mary janes slice of life, watch this
whip it: a rebellious teenage girl from a small, conservative town joins a roller derby team. the mc, bliss, has a real gwen vibe.
... and like, the amazing spider-man movies
books (but mostly comics*)
the refrigerator monologues: an anthology written because of gwen's death in tasm2, full of meta about the fridged women of comics.
something is killing the children*: a small town being terrorized by monsters is visited by a monster hunter, erika, and the shadowy organization she left. erika feels... not quite like gwen, but what gwen could be.
supergirl: woman of tomorrow*: supergirl and a little girl go on a galaxy-crossing revenge quest. supergirl's characterization is another one that feels very gwennish.
and i know you didn't ask for this but tv shows
dark: german netflix series about time travel. the third season in particular follows the male protagonist’s love interest as she becomes the protagonist. she's got a gwen-617 vibe that'll only make sense in context.
i am not ok with this: so short it's basically a movie. a queer girl manifests superpowers after her father's death.
jessica jones: idk how canon this is to the mcu, but the first season's great. messy female private investigator gets closure on a traumatic event from her past. jess feels like what gwen could be in her 30s.
orphan black: a group of women discover they're clones from an illegal experiment, are being watched by the corporation that made them, and are being hunted by an unknown party. probably the closest slam-dunk in terms of a protagonist similar to gwen and the themes you're probably looking for.
we are lady parts: about an all female british muslim punk band. if you're looking for a series about a band dynamic like the mary janes, watch this.
and a videogame
oxenfree: a group of teens are stranded on a haunted island and have to escape before they’re possessed by spirits. the protagonist, alex, is mourning her dead brother. this one feels very evocative of the bonfire gwen and co go to the summer after peter's death.

tasm is my favorite spidey movie alongside raimi’s sm2 obviously but it definitely falls into a lineage of tropes that is far too prevalent, as far as dr connors is concerned
super frustrating cause i think that movie does a lot of things right in its writing, approach to peter and his relationships, to gwen and may specifically but also uncle ben and even flash in some ways, plus design language (i love sporty suits...) (prefer the eyes in 2 though) etc etc, even the skateboard as a really solid way to call back to the motorcycle— but the whole like “woe is me, nothing is worse than being disabled” thing is extremely obnoxious and mars an otherwise very good movie for me (also the voiceover scene in the deleted scenes is better than the final version imo, the version where it sounds more like a recorded playback fits better aesthetically and thematically imo whereas the final version mostly is just corny and is probably legitimately one of my least favorite scenes in the movie)
tasm2 also imo has similar pitfalls with max, though imo the electro aspect of that movie is by far the best part. i don’t really like the goblin stuff unfortunately lol—except i do think gwen’s death was like, very effective, especially in the context of the first movie and previous fakeouts, so it definitely did that well, even if i think the movie would have been better split into two and allowed more room to breathe for both
this is also a criticism i have of the batman’s depiction of the riddler once unmasked, though in this case the way he’s played onscreen is not the “wow being physically disabled is the worst” sort but rather the “wow look at this neurodivergent creature” sort that is, again, very prevalent in media especially in these genres and is nothing short of maddening as someone with a whole lot of both physically disabled and neurodivergent family members (and myself)

frustratingly widespread. either it’s weird inspiration porn or it’s weird self hatred, spanning all kinds of stuff from romance to horror to action, and it’s like YEAH there are difficulties in being disabled obviously and a lot of people get depressed or have rough patches or self-hatred because of that and because of not being able to do things they used to do but like... this one specific POV (usually a POV that is mostly held by abled ppl) is so deeply overrepresented in media, movies, games, comic books, novels.... where like... being disabled is just the worst possible thing you could ever be, and it’s worse than death, and so on and so forth, as though a man who’s been disabled a long time wouldn’t just be kind of used to it by then lmfao
reason number 454968549 why i find the agent venom origin SO frustrating cause previously, like, you had this whole really solid mini arc in web of spidey about flash coming to terms with his disability and accepting himself and understanding that he can both be loved and love himself while disabled without needing to “fix” that via weird secret government experimentation, and then like... a year or two later you have a comic that literally uses the exact thing that comic showed was not necessary for his happiness (aforementioned secret gov experiments) and said, actually, he IS going to do that, and also, i’m a bad writer who thinks flash is a fucking moron who doesn’t understand how friendship works between tWO PEOPLE HE’S BEEN FRIENDS WITH SINCE HE WAS LIKE 18 i’m sorry i just hate the AV origin so much it’s so contradictory to every aspect of this character
sure character regression happens but that just felt like contradictory writing and the usual lack of interest in character development, in favor of blatant military propaganda and a story the only redeeming aspect of which was, to be quite frank, the art

oh yeah disabilities aren’t the end of the world and it would be nice if media could approach them better. even stuff that’s otherwise good or that i really like often stumbles in this area, whether it’s various agent venom comics that ALMOST have it (this is often most noticeable in the fact that flash is using hospital-style wheelchairs or the wrong kind of prostheses) or a movie that does everything else just right but drops the ball on self-loathing and what that actually feels like over time (imo) or a game that inexplicably has an entire asylum based subplot for no fucking reason other than the fact that it came out in 2012 and that was en vogue then because of arkham asylum lmao

a/n: for the second and final part, I thought you guys would ask for a happy ending, but instead, all I received were requests on peter being guilty and sad as hell (ily for it). I told you all of us had pain kink! WARNINGS: Super mean to peter, swearing, and let's please assume avengers existed after tasm2.
No matter how happy and fun they are made out to be, High School reunions are nothing but about power. Who got their dream jobs, who broke up, who are now in desperate need of money – it has always been about power.
But you did miss most of your old friends, and RSVPing no wasn’t your forte. Besides, using it as an excuse gave you a break from work. Looking at the ocean of familiar faces, you didn’t regret your decision. You missed those fuckers, no matter how annoying some of them were years ago.
There were also people you weren’t looking forwards to seeing; Peter being on the top of the list. Him showing up at all was surprising. Did he even have any friends? After your messy breakup, the only person he talked to was Gwen, but that had an end even worse than yours.
Which means he came to talk to you.
All through the night, you moved in directions opposite to him, and generally kept yourself busy so he wouldn’t get a chance to say hi. You had thought you wouldn’t be that bothered by his presence, which was why you came at all. But standing under the bright lights, you kept glancing here and there, nervously tapping your feet against the floor.
It was as if you were suddenly consumed by every memory you had of him — how he promised you forever then left you alone days later. Despite everything, you had continuously told yourself it wasn’t his fault he fell in love with Gwen. But if he was out of the picture, you had no one to blame but yourself—
“Y/N?” Aimee called, pulling you out of your thoughts. “Are you okay? You look a bit sick.”
“No, I’m fine. You were telling me about your husband, right?” you asked, smiling.
“Wait, let me,” she turned to look at the group of men near the giant welcome sign. “Mark, get over here! Say hi to Y/N!”
“Mark?” your mouth fell open. “Since when have you guys been dating?”
“A lot of things happened these past few years, Y/N. Our wedding, my haircut, and the fact that there are literally more superheroes than Hallmark Christmas movies."
"I like it," Mark added, coming over. "NightShade saved me the other day."
"From monsters?" you asked, your eyes wide.
NightShade was a well-known fighter who had recently joined the Avengers along with Alexandrite and The Vulture. Why they all had such cryptic names was yet to be known. Unlike the rest of the Avengers, they decided to keep low profiles, meaning they were just as anonymous as Spiderman.
"No, he walked right onto the traffic without looking at the signal," Aimee said, exhausted.
"Hey, you're sore because he's your favorite Avenger and I got to meet him."
"No, my favorite is Alexandra, she's so badass," she sighed dreamily.
"Her name is Alexandrite," Mark corrected. "Just call her Alexa like the rest of the city does."
"I know who your favorite is, Y/N," she said, ignoring her husband. "You always had the hugest crush on a certain Spiderman. Too bad he's not an Avenger."
You rolled your eyes at that, making her frown.
“You don't like him anymore?” she asked incredulously. You shrugged.
“I'm over him. He’s not that great,” you muttered, taking a sip of the juice Mark had just handed over.
Peter, who was obviously listening in on the conversation from the other end of the room, had enough.
“Uhm, code red,” Aimee said, mostly out of habit. It was what she used to say anytime Peter was within a 5 mile radius after you broke up. And just like back then, you almost choked on the drink, then put it down on the table with a dull thud.
“Hey!” Peter said, and Mark was the only one who smiled.
“Ehm, babe, let’s go say hi to Watsens,” Aimee said, pulling Mark away. You knew she was trying to give you privacy, but the last thing you wanted was to be alone with Peter Parker.
You were about to walk away too, but he grabbed your elbow, maybe out of his superhero reflex. You glared at him, making him let go as if he touched fire.
“Sorry,” he mumbled. “Listen, can we talk?”
“No,” you said firmly.
“I came all this way to talk to you,” he said desperately. “It won’t take a minute, I swear.”
“Let me guess, are you about to apologize?”
He sighed, hating how he made it obvious.
“You said sorry that day,” you smiled forcefully. “It didn’t do much. Won’t do anything now.”
“I—"
��Enjoy the party, Pete. I think I’m going to head out early.”
He felt desperately guilty again, and guilt was something Spiderman had yet to master bearing. He didn’t want you to walk away, not before he plead his case.
“I saved you!” he said loudly, earning a fair few stares from the people nearby.
You turned, scoffing. “Excuse me?”
“I saved you,” he repeated, taking a step and lowering his voice. “You didn’t lose anything, I did.”
“You’re saying Gwen’s death is my fault?” you asked, your voice sharp.
“God no,” he disagreed quickly. “I’m just, look, I lost her because I was stupid. If anyone should be angry here, it’s me. What did you lose?”
“You,” you breathed, amazed he even had to ask. “You think I should be grateful I’m even alive? That’s your big apology? And as shitty as that is, don't you think it's a bit too late for that?”
“After Gwen's death, for years I wanted to knock on your door and beg for forgiveness.”
“Then why didn’t you?” you snapped.
“Because I knew if I talked to you again,” he paused. “I would have doomed you too.” I would have fallen in love with you again. “I'm cursed.” And I didn't want to lose you too.
“You have a hell of a god complex, Peter. Let's take a trip down the memory lane," you said, your words hurried. "If you hadn't fallen in love with her, we would have still been dating—"
"No—"
"Don't interrupt. Gwen worked at Oscorp. She was at top of that freaking clock tower because of Green Goblin, who I didn't even know! So no, I wouldn't have died. It's literally impossible that I would have been standing at the same spot she was. I wouldn't have died. She wouldn't have died if you hadn't fucked us up!"
"Y/N." The way he said your name irked you because that was exactly how he used to say it years ago. Calm and quiet, as if he's right and everyone knew it.
You wanted nothing more than wipe that sympathetic smile off his face. And that's exactly what you did. Your words came out hushed, but you knew he could hear them.
"You didn't save me, Peter. You killed her."
His face drained of blood, amazed at how cruel you could be if you set your mind to it. You were about to walk off, leaving him broken like he once left you, but he decided to surprise you in return too.
"Just because you wear it on your hand doesn't mean it's invisible." He said, loud and clear.
You turned, tilting your head sideways, almost amused, almost stunned. "Goodbye, Parker."
Once you reached outside, you took a deep breath in and looked at your hand. Perfectly manicured fingers stared back, along with a single ring finishing the look. You weren't married, no. But in a way, the ring was just as important.
The only reason Alexandrite was better known as Alexa was because of misinformation, and everyone assumed the woman behind the mask must be someone with the same name.
But what most forgets is that Alexandrite is also a gem, like the one in your ring.
Exactly like the one in your ring.

my hot take on tasm2 is that it was structurally no more messy than at least half of mcu movies while having much more going on in terms of emotional depth, themes and characterization. however it has one very, very fatal flaw which I rarely see acknowledged, that I think ultimately ended up putting the entire franchise in a corner writing-wise and would have caused its downfall even if it werent for the cancellation. by making harry gwen’s murderer, they made the dynamic that is supposed to exist between him and peter impossible. he has crossed a line he cannot uncross, he has given peter the very opposite of reason to believe he is good at heart. it was a huge disservice to his character, and it was a weak setup for making peter-harry the new core dynamic of the franchise after gwens death, because harry has essentially been placed in the narrative role of norman - someone who’s dynamic with peter in the comics is made interesting by both their dynamics with harry first and foremost.

so i was talking to someone and they asked me how come i love a movie that everyone hates? and i just. can understand why people didn't like TASM2? like. I feel that, you'd have to dislike Spider-Man as a whole to actively hate it
Oh man, first off, I just want to say, “how can you love a piece of fiction that everyone hates” is like, one of the worst argument of all time, full offense to whoever you were speaking with. The inner Jewish grandmother in me hears that and says, “What, and if everyone suddenly loved jumping off a bridge, you’d do that too?” There are a lot of reasons for not liking a piece of fiction but “well everyone else hates it” really isn’t one of them, to anyone who feels pressured by popular opinion. It’s totally okay to like things other people don’t, be they fiction, food, or fashion, among others.
(I have a lot of TASM asks right now and I’m working through them in a weird order, apologies to the askers.)
Which brings me to your second point, and like, obviously I love The Amazing Spider-Man 2 a whole lot, but I do think there are valid reasons why someone might personally not like the movie even beyond just personal preferences like “I like this actor’s performance/face/whatever, I don’t like this other actor’s performance/face/whatever” etc. One big thing about both Amazing Spider-Man movies is that they’re an adaptation of The Night Gwen Stacy Died, and they know what they are – it’s all set up even in the first movie. The bridge models on the Parker mantel place. Gwen’s first outfit, along with her last, are tributes to her classic Amazing Spider-Man #121 outfit, involving a coat, purple skirt, and knee high boots, with the first also featuring her iconic black headband. There’s the “I’m going to throw you out a window now” scene, not to mention the death of George Stacy, a precursor to Gwen’s death. (I’ve talked about this before on Gwen’s death, but I do think it’s fascinating how TASM exists in a pop culture landscape where 616 Gwen’s death already happened, and how that drastically alters George’s last words to Peter, going from asking him to take care of Gwen to asking him promise to stay away from her.) The movies knew what they were doing from the start. The audience, on the other hand, didn’t. And I think the experience of watching TASM2 for the first time can be wildly different depending on if you went in knowing about/expecting Gwen’s (especially brutal) death scene, and depending on your personal feelings about the story TASM/2 chose to retell and about the death of Gwen Stacy. And that’s just one reason.
And I can talk about all the things I love in TASM. I can talk about how, in my own personal opinion, it is the film series that cares the most about being faithful to the source material. (Raimi’s Spider-Man, in my opinion, does a great job creating a very specific look, and drawing on classic elements, and creating its own now classic Spider-Man mythology like the upside down kiss, but it ultimately disappoints me with how it chose to interpret the characters. MCU’s Spider-Man, any other thoughts I have on it aside, is clearly more interested in impressing modern audiences and projecting FUN in letters sixteen feet high than it is in being a faithful Spider-Man adaptation.) And it can be debated whether or not it’s a GOOD thing for a film to try and be faithful rather than doing its own thing, but it is a thing I personally love about it, then I can look at the movies and pull things out of them and go “and they got this from here, and that from there” etc. I like that they did things differently while still leaning into the source material; the mystery of Peter’s parents being a big plot of the plot, for example, is something I’ve seen be criticized, but the fact is this is a plot from the comics and when you have a character who is built on these layers and layers of secrecy, it’s a worthy exploration to see where that comes from. I love that the movies focus so heavily on Peter’s relationship with May, and TASM2′s “you’re my boy”/”I’m your boy, you’re my everything” scene is a huge part of that. I love that they’re both crying in that scene. I love how genuine the emotion in TASM2 feels. I love that the first TASM movie took Flash’s limited screen time and didn’t make him one note – aside from Gwen, he’s the only person in the school scene to try and comfort Peter after Ben’s death, and his “it feels better, right?” line is a reference to Flash’s abusive home life from the comics. I love the amount of detail put into the look of these movies – I love the set design of Peter’s room, the posters, the photos of Gwen, how it’s realistically messy and not at all an Ikea-looking cookie cutter set. I love Gwen’s evolving style between the first and second movie, trading in her sleek straight hair and sweaters for waves and jewel toned pattern pieces. In a visual medium like a movie, all of this information is used to tell you things about the characters, and I think TASM uses its environments and its wardrobe to pack as much information in as it can. I love that TASM2 filmed 90% in New York state, which as far as I know is pretty unique in a superhero film. I love that both movies are a love letter in their own ways to New York, to the dazzling heights, to Spider-Man’s iconic connection to his home city. And yeah, I love the tragedy of the movie, I love The Night Gwen Stacy Died as a story that changed the landscape of Spider-Man, I love the raw emotion of the whole thing, and I love that a version of it was made where Gwen got to save New York not once but twice before she died, and how it’s not fair, but the point of it is that it’s not fair, and I love stories that sometimes don’t have happy endings, and I love the performances that were given in retelling this particular story. And yeah, I love that TASM and the people involved in making it, including Andrew Garfield, obviously really cares about Peter Parker as an individual character, and they let him be angry, and be sharp-tongued, and physical, and weird, and not a perfect person because what mattered was the responsibility in the character. TASM’s “That’s not your job”/”Maybe it is” exchange says it best.
But I think ultimately where a lot of the hate comes from is that there’s a pattern in fandom, and we saw it with Raimi > TASM, and with TASM > Homecoming, and even a little bit with Homecoming > Into the Spider-Verse, though I do think the last one is a little difference because of the circumstances. I’d like to think that all the recent criticism of Homecoming’s blatant theft of Miles’ character and story to build up the MCU’s version of Peter Parker is genuine (and I do think most of it is) but I see this patteen whenever a new version of something comes out. There’s a tendency – and I think some of this is studio-led; they want people to throw out the old in favor of the new because it’s simply much better for their business – to trash the one that came before it. Oh, actually, it was bad, it was boring, people only liked it because of this one actor, etc. The MCU in its entirety, with all the marketing power of Disney behind it, has become incredibly good at doing this not just with other Marvel movies under different studios, but with superhero movies on the altogether, whether it be through buying review or through the pressure exerted to acknowledge the MCU as The One True Superhero Movie Franchise. (For the record, there are MCU movies I like, and ones I don’t, and ones I don’t feel anything for, but I truly doubt that the evangelical nature of the truly hardcore MCU audience sprang up completely organically.) Sooner or later, they’ll reboot Spider-Man as a live action film again. I hope they pick Miles as their lead when they do, but it’ll probably be Peter again, and even if the next one does star Miles – eventually, there will be another Peter Parker movie, and as soon as the next actor is cast, we’re going to see this pattern again. I would be willing to put money down on it.
At the end of the day, like I wrote in my big Homecoming criticism post, I’m a little tired of the idea that there can only be One True Adaptation, which is where a lot of this argument comes from, when it comes to a body of works that spans decades and hundreds upon hundreds of issues. “Oh, we already had a bunch of Spider-Man movies” is like, so? We already had a bunch of Spider-Man comics, too. There’s so many stories to adapt and retell, and I love the one TASM/2 threw itself into adapting, but there’s so many more I want to see up on screen, too. (Here’s to Sony’s announced Kraven movie project! PLEASE be a Kraven’s Last Hunt movie!)
But yeah, ultimately, popularity isn’t exactly the best metric for how good a movie is, let alone how much you’re allowed to enjoy it, and what matters is that you liked it. I love it a lot, too.

And we're done rewatching TASM2, webbverse. I stand by to what I said 10 and 8 years ago after watching them in the cinema-they are pretty amazing.
Were the emotions of shock and indenial of Gwen's death still prominent? Yes. Absolutely (which was also why I haven't have the nerve to rewatch it)
Did I thought that Harry was in TASM1 and midway through it was wondering where the heck is he? yup.
About 2014 me saying that TASM2 is more amazing than TSAM1. As of right now 2022, I actually haven't chosen a favourite yet. Again both are solid movies. (Need a bit of time to digest which of the 2 adult me prefers- though I can say the hair game of both Emma and Andrew in TSAM1 was and is my favourite (i wanted the bangs so bad and unruly messy short hair is my kryptonite!!- flashback to 2012 me showing the hairdresser Emma Stone/Gwen Stacy hairstyle, but the bangs I got were thick and not a style that suits me)

Rewatching The Amazing Spiderman for the 1st time ever since I went to see it in cinemas 10 years ago.
Honestly this is long over due. And I've rewatched bits of Sam Rami Trilogy more recently (well yes memes could have been a driving force as well in addition to the OG Trilogy being on TV all the time)
It's time to digest and dissect the film in a more critical manner as to my 13 old self, who after watching cinema would claim most is not all films I just saw as amazing and great.

so like obviously this isn’t a Good Movie and the MCU is bankrupt yadda yadda whatever i had some fun
- i haven’t really watched an MCU movie in a long time, excluding Shang Chi, but i feel like the MCU is so formulaic and so this movie being messy seems... odd? like the polished/pre-packaged arc they keep repeating is tired by now, but have other more recent MCU films felt this clumsy? Maybe that’s me being out of the loop.
- the pacing of this movie was so weird? i feel like it had so much going on with not enough time to give anything its weight and at the same time it... took its time? meandered with useless stuff when that time could’ve been devoted elsewhere? really odd and again not unexpected i guess but it took me off guard.
- some very cheesy dialogue. AGAIN the MCU usually toots its own horn about being snarky/tongue in cheek and not letting itself be silly, since it’s too cool and funny for that, so the bad lines also really stood out for that reason.
- needed maybe half the villain squad. The only villains they did anything with were Norman/Otto/Max so cutting Connors and Flint would’ve cost nothing. I guess they wanted more spectacle / to even out who gets pulled from the worlds? But that spread out the screentime so much that we didn’t really get any focus on Flint and Connors anyway, so really what was the point. You could’ve just doubled down on the other villains instead.
- people really talked like Dafoe was in this... way more than he was, or did way more than he did. He’s good! He’s always good. But again there’s not enough time devoted to him at all when it could’ve been much more fun.
- We’re not talking about Max enough but he’s so sexy in this. TASM!Pete x Max would be rotting in my head if I could bring myself to watch TASM2 for context but I simply will not because I love myself <3 but they’re making out back in their universe
- TASM!Pete going home and squinting at the name tag of every women he encounters trying to find his own MJ until he’s finally like hey.... hey Max what’s... what’s your middle name...
- I also only saw TASM1 when it came out like once and never saw TASM2 but... was Garfield always... playing Pete... like that... if it were anyone else i would be like ‘this feels... like i’m being baited’ but that is the most deliberately gay little performance he could’ve done. WHAT is going on there. who let him do that.
- i literally have no explanation for why they did norman/otto like that except for... you know. those men did not interact in their respective canon and someone made the decision to show otto going through the 5 stages of grief when he recognized norman on that bridge. so many spurned comments. so many soft glances. “norman’s on sabbatical, honey.” I am truly obsessed. why did they make them divorced. they’re gonna go back home and have no one left but each other. what the fuck, like... what the fuck.
- pete wanting to cure everyone is such a heartfelt and nice sentiment but AGAIN the beats/time spent doesn’t give this concept enough weight to really dig in. same with him craving violence.
- tobey pete the OG every single time i have 0 notes he’s perfect every time he spoke i wanted to tear up
- tobey pete being like “ha ha it’s complicated” bc he doesn’t want to depress the other dudes by being like “yeah i go home and bang my hot actress wife every night of my life” 10/10
- idk why they wasted so much time on fluff plot vs what they obviously wanted to do (villain group / 3 petes). why did we spend so much time with strange and discussing MIT -- it didn’t need that much screentime! could’ve gotten the drift in half the scenes! probably costs but also very annoying for it to be simultaneously twiddling its thumbs and bloated to the gills.
- the 3 pete gags were all good. a lot of the little gags were good and i did have some nice laughs. which is a shame when the rest of the movie doesn’t really hold weight.
- SPLIT SECOND OF KRAVEN. THE LOVE OF MY LIFE KRAVEN. I SEE YOU KING.
- thank god now that mcu!pete is broke and in a not ugly suit. so hilarious that it took 3 movies for them to reset him into a proper spider-man. i have to laugh but maybe this means progress
- i don’t think it’s a good movie but it does give me a playground to think of so many fun little things in my mind for my little pretend stories in the theatre of my brain so it’s a win for me i guess?
- anyway there’s probably more i want to say but i’m just rotating norman and otto in my mind obsessively.
