I'd personally say something like, "Hi, During our section in sociology around relationships, I couldn't help but think it would be interesting to discuss how a sociological theory called "amatonormativity" might relate to these lessons. I gathered a few sources from the professor who coined it, a thesis written on it, and a law review written about the connection between it and laws in the USA. There's some connections between its use in feminist thought and in queer theories, and I'd love to know your thoughts about it. I personally was thinking of when [specific statement] was said, and how I would apply this theory. I hope it's as interesting to you as it is to me."

Honors college is great! In exchange for covering your tuition, my university will (checks notes) force you to do a capstone project, 120 hours of community service, significantly harder coursework, and several additional projects you don’t need to do because they can. Also you can’t take lower than 15 credits a semester or you lose your money. Good luck ^-^!

#I am. slightly salty. with my university.#I understand that the honors college needs to have smth that makes it an honors college #I get it. I understand it.#but the burnout is so fucking bad.#can’t they like. make it so u can do 12 credits a semester or smth. and they still cover all ur credits.#like I get the top tier version of this scholarship also covers housing and that’s expensive #they could even make it where you only get 4 years of free housing but you can still get more credits after that #like. instead of going ‘30-33 credits a year for 4 years’ why not just go ‘132 credits max; split it up however u want’#especially since MANY STUDENTS DONT HAVE HOUSING COVERED BY THIS SCHOLARSHIP #SO IT LITERALLY DOESNT MATTER #they can arguably extract More Money from you if you can take a lower amount of credits for more years!#bc the yearly costs for parking n stuff still occur!#also whoever came up w the honors seminar and the PDP was 100% making a pyramid scheme #but instead of money flow it’s TA positions. bc so many honors students want to be a TA.#blue chatter

so i went to the library to work on my final lab for GIS and this dude from my class was also there working on it and we ended up helping each other and having a good time so i am forced to resign myself to the fact that having to go out today was in fact For The Best

When you look at how people actually become part of the alt-right or white supremacist movement, that's not how it works. They aren't well-intentioned white guys who were criticized too much by college feminists. It has a lot in common with how people join gangs and cults. Often a combination of poor education, bad family life, and an intense desire for belonging. Then being taken advantage of by bad people who want to manipulate and use them for their own gain. You can't just blame feminists.

just looked at some of the poems my creative writing students turned in for this week and nearly started crying genuine tears of joy. i love this class and i love these kids and i think maybe five and a half years of primarily torturously stupid and inane teaching assignments was worth it to get here

#like why was i teaching BUSINESS-THEMED FIRST-YEAR COMPOSITION when i could have been teaching THIS. HELLO????#the reason for that is complicated and bureaucratic and also because my department chair hates me personally but oh well #HERE I AM!!!!!!!!!!#and of course now that i know how much i love this i'm graduating and entering into a field #where a zillion people are competing for the same five jobs exactly like this. well whatever #THE POEMS ARE GOOD. THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT.#to be clear: not my previous students' fault that those other classes sucked (mostly). comes with the territory of the mixture #of mandatory lit seminars and comp classes and exploited TA labor

Scheduled lab training with my advisor for next Monday, she rescheduled it to Friday because it might take longer than anticipated and I didn't exactly have time to spare in my schedule, got home and realized that I actually already have extra TAing scheduled that week in that time slot (...for her husband's class). So now I need to email and reschedule again.

....worth noting that when originally signing up for the extra TAing, I mentioned that I was available for three sections, then had to email my advisor's husband (who coordinates that class) back that I had fucked up and did actually have class during one of those slots, because apparently I don't know my schedule. Good grief.

edit: just occurred to me that I had actually scheduled the original Monday meeting at a different time, realized that I was meant to be assisting in a lab at that time, and had to reschedule it for later in the day. This now brings me up to three times I've managed to double-book myself in two weeks. Send help.
