Tarte Clay Stick Foundation is my new favorite product! This foundation is marketed as a balancing, weightless and breathable foundation that will nourish your skin. I can honestly say that all of these things are true. It covers all my red patches on my face and still lets my skin breathe. HOWEVER this foundation is no where near full coverage! It is build-able but if you add too much to will become very oily. I myself have very oily skin so I cannot add a lot of this product to my face without my skin looking like an oily mess. - This stick foundation has .32 oz of product...which is not a whole lot BUT you do not need a lot of product when using it. Hello there, Beauties!! Today, I’m reviewing a foundation that got a lot of hype when it first came out this summer. We’re going to get into it and I’ll tell you whether I think you should get it or forget it all together. 

The Tarte Clay Stick Foundation, $39, came out this summer when the stick foundation craze was really poppin’. It comes in 12 shades (image on the right via Tarte’s website shows all of the available shades) and is available at Ulta, Sephora and Tarte’s website. You get 9 grams of product, or .32 ounces, so much less than a liquid or cream foundation. This foundation claims to give you 12 hours of multidimensional matte full coverage. Here’s the full description from Tarte’s website:

This Amazonian clay foundation stick is like a nutrition bar for your skin. The full-coverage, powder-to-liquid formula melts into skin while micro-encapsulated powders burst with your body heat to keep you shine & cake-free. This vegan formula features antioxidant vitamins C, E & Amazonian clay, a total skin-balancing powerhouse that hydrates or mattifies depending on your skin type. The guilt-free blend also means there are no harsh chemicals like talc, gluten, sulfates, or parabens in your buildable, decadent coverage. Use on-the-go, as a spot concealer, or in lighter or darker shades to highlight & contour – just swipe, blend & #slaywithclay.

I wore this foundation three times, which isn’t my typical duration for testing foundations. Usually, I give base products at least a week of testing to determine how it works for me. I like to try them out with different primers, powders, all that jazz. This one, however, showed me immediately what it was about so I cut testing short.

Let me start by saying that this foundation is definitely not full coverage. I would say that it’s medium to medium-full at best. I tried to build it up, and that wasn’t a good look on my skin at all. It is supposed to be creamy and easy to apply to the skin, and I’d have to disagree with that. I found that it tugged on the skin and was actually a little more dry than I expected it to be. On top of that, it is supposed to be easy to blend, and that wasn’t my experience either. I tried using a brush and a beauty sponge and still found it to be streaky. I would spend way longer than I’m accustomed to to blend it into my skin.

It is supposed to last for 12 hours, but that’s not true in my experience either. I found that after about four hours, it started to break up on my skin, especially around my nose, my forehead, and my upper lip. I typically don’t experience that, so I was highly disappointed seeing that. Even when I set it with a powder, it didn’t last as long as it claims to.

So, in case you didn’t pick up on it, I definitely think you should Forget It when it comes to the Tarte Clay Stick Foundation. I just found that this product didn’t work well for my skin at all, and wouldn’t feel comfortable recommending it to anyone.
