Zebras in Tarangire National Park, Tanzania
Tarangire National Park, located in northern Tanzania, is known for its diverse wildlife, including its population of zebras. During the dry season, which is from June to October, large herds of zebras migrate to the park in search of water and grazing opportunities. These stunning black and white animals are highly social in nature and typically live in groups called 'harems'. A harem consists of a dominant male, several females and their offspring. These groups help provide protection against predators, as well as companionship and social interaction. Interestingly, zebras also play a vital role in the ecosystem of Tarangire National Park. As grazers, they feed on grass and help to maintain the balance between grass and other vegetation. Their grazing behaviour stimulates new growth and prevents the dominance of certain plant species, thereby benefitting the overall biodiversity of the park.
