After many moons, I am returning to my oldest work-in-progress The Arcana Quest (TAQ)! Old summary can be found here to get a general idea of the storyline. I have known for a while that TAQ needed a big overhaul and has had a lot of its themes change, but in my brain it was formless so I couldn't start it. However, I have found a starting point to work off of for my first draft. I realize that I want to be a planner, but I am a pantser at heart, so I'm just going to jump in and see where I go.

I have a summary below of the beginning up to the catalyst. I'd really like it if you'd look it over and give your thoughts and/or ideas. Triggers are above.

Setting: A high fantasy setting resembling the world of the 1940s/WW2 era.

Protagonist: Antigone Fairview, genderfluid, 22. A graduate student studying Arcanism, a major religion in this world, at a university notorious for its connection to a secret society called Order of the Green Flame. It is actually a doomsday cult they were born into that is preparing for a prophecy to be fulfilled where their prophesied supreme leader will bring about the end of the world to make it anew.

Antagonist: Herald Grunell, cis man, early 40s. Following the prophecy the members essentially had a breeding program to birth The High Lord, a epitaph for a player in a prophecy in which he will be adversaries with "Gemini" to collect the nine Arcane Artifacts that will allow them to "ascend to the stars" and have one request granted by the nine gods. He has recently ascended to the role as Prime Minister in the country of Verdun and is a charismatic populist leader beginning military mobilization to conquer neighboring countries with the ultimate goal of taking the country of Dorimus, where the prophecy will be fulfilled.

So a lot of themes around religion come into play as I’m basing this story around ideas I've had in connection to me being raised in a cult, having to do religious deconstruction, and seeing the rise of Christian nationalism in the US. Antigone has been raised in a doomsday cult trying to fulfill The Arcana Quest, a famous prophecy about the potential end of the world while “The High Lord” and “Gemini” will be working to collect these items (arcane artifacts) and who does will “ascend to the stars” in order to get one wish. This cult has been basically trying to breed the existence of the High Lord and they did. He is in his 40s and has gained power. He is an “uncle” aka adult male within the cult. Antigone revealed as a kid that he had been SA-ing them and basically has been ousted as an outsider since then and gaslit that they were in the wrong. Due to this and realizing their gender identity, they are in the beginning stages of wondering if their religious indoctrination is all true/questioning but is feeling ashamed to be doing so. They are an academic and their interpretation of the prophecy is not aligning with the cult creed and they have an idea of where one of the unknown arcane artifacts is located. A creepy conversation between Herald (High Lord) and Antigone will reveal that destroying and recreating the world is not metaphorical and will be creating it in his image. This leads them to them to essentially blow up the cult building in an attempt to kill Herald and will escape with an arcane artifact. They will be running to Dorimus for asylum and to follow their hypothesis about the potential location of one of the arcane artifacts not accounted for.

personal update 10.7.2023 💫🐠💙🌟

good things that happened this week:

i had my mom and sister over for a little bit :) we got thai from the great place on campus and watched my sister play re2make

i picked my wife up after her trip!! obviously, having her back has been lovely after a week without her, but the anticipation to seeing her again was also fun. i went out to a local flower shop, picked out each stem in a bouquet for her, and waited for her with it in my arms and butterflies in my stomach like i hadnt seen her in months. i love her so very much and i feel so grateful i have her in my life <3333

i had a quick consultation for my next tattoo, picked a spot, and booked my actual appointment! (ive had a gift certificate for our family friends place since christmas and have been waiting to use it hehe) im sooo excited for it

phone interview that went well! im actually not sure yet if the job would 100% be a fit for me if i landed it (though it really could be awesome if my health allows), but i feel proud i was able to do an interview i feel good about regardless!

WIP- Nightmare

So, this is like a drabble that I wrote before going to bed. So, there's going to be spelling errors and all that joy. There's a semi-graphic description of child death and corpses. So, if that makes you comfy I wouldn't recommend reading this. If ya'll think I need more taqs or warnings let me know I'll update it.

It's so cold. Everything is so cold. There are bodies in front of him. So many small bodies. He remembers that just a few days ago they were running around and looking up at him. Begging him to make it snow inside so that they could play without getting in trouble. His feet leads him to a specific small body. One in blue. "Dage! Come home soon!" Kuai Liang had called out. Bi-Han remembers smiling, "I'll be home soon, work on your cryomancy Didi." That was the last words he said to Kuai Liang. Not I love you, but work on your cryomancy. "I love you!" He had heard Kuai Liang as he teleported. "I love you," Bi-Han croaks as he gently picks up the stitched back together corpse and holds it close. "The moon is bright, the wind is quiet." He sobs as he feels tears running down his cheeks, "The leaves hang over the window." He feels so cold, the body, Kuai Liang is too still. Frozen tears fall from his face onto his little brother's body. "My baby," Bi-Han chokes. His baby brother. His baby. "Fall asleep quickly." He almost looks like he's asleep. "Sleep, dreaming sweet dreams." Bi-Han says softly. He can almost pretend. "The moon is bright, the wind is calm," That Kuai Liang is just sleeping. That his little brother isn't gone, "Gently moving cradle." Bi-Han? He wishes he could hear Kuai Liang call out his name one more time. "Mother's baby." He lets out another sob, he feels so cold. Like his namesake Sub-Zero. Like the ice he wields. "Close your eyes." He closes his own eyes, this was the part Kuai Liang would be closing his eyes drowsily as the lullaby worked it's magic. "Yeah sleep, sleep, dreaming sweet dreams." Bi-Han, wake up sweetie He didn't want to let go, he didn't want his little brother to be dead. He closes his eyes. He wanted Wake up He wanted Bi-Han He wanted to be warm. Bi-Han wake up He wanted his family. Bi-Han, wake up His vision shook, he wanted a hug. He opens his eyes and feels warm arms wrapped around him.

Story Of Dunn - 1: The IMF

Summary: I was going deep into the Mission Impossible franchise when I noticed everyone somewhat had a past, other than Benji Dunn so I'm writing one for him.From the time he joined the IMF to the MI:III.

Heads up: This is written in first person! I found it to be more easier so you, the reader, can feel his emotions and go along on his story with him. Also, this is just how I view how Benji got into the IMF. Just something creative I thought up. Also, with this being the first chapter it might be a bit boring and I tried to make it as entertaining as possible, I hope to make it better as I go along.

I took a deep breath, I couldn’t believe I was doing this. Finally I was taking after my dreams, I’m 22, fresh out of the University Of Oxford and a company already wanted me in for them.

Of course, my mother was happy, but she was upset that I had to move to the US to pursue this. I, on the other hand, didn’t want to leave her in the UK all by herself but, she wanted me to go after my dreams and I didn’t was to disappoint nor upset her,

It was really strange, the whole flight there. Everything seemed unreal to me. The company I was flying to was called the Impossible Mission Force.

They said they wanted to put me in field training and said they would provide me with e personal “Becoming a citizen” teacher. I knew I would have to go through with it if I wanted to work for them, but I just couldn’t believe a secret agency wanted me to be apart of it.

Of course, they had asked that my mother knows as little as possible so I told her it was some computer company that wanted something bigger and asked if I could help. It’s bad to lie to her, but the agency said it was for her safety.

When I got to the building I couldn’t believe how busy it was, most of the field agents were running around and it almost made me dizzy.

I tightened the strap of the messenger bag that held most my clothes and laptop, before I proceeded to push my way through the rushing agents. I still couldn’t believe how many of them there was.

Soon enough I found myself running into one of them, we both toppled to the ground, luckily I didn’t land on my bag otherwise I think I would have smashed my laptop.

I saw a pair of nice shoes step in front of me.

“I’m guessing you’re Benji Dunn?” It was a familiar voice and as I looked up seeing Mr. Scotman, the same man who called and recruited me. “I see you’re already knocking down agents.”

“Ah, he’s fine. Can be a bit weird for new people.” The Agent nods.

I slowly got up, my arms hanging low. “I think weird is an understatement.”

Mr. Scotman chuckled, wrapping his arms around my shoulders. “Let’s go to my office and we’ll figure this all out.” He then started pulling me along.

This was a bit awkward since he was shorter than me, he was a bit pudgy with brown hair and black eyes. He was wearing a dark brown suit and upon his nose were thick black glasses.

But I did find it a bit hard to keep up with him since there were so many agents running around. I felt a bit of relief when we finally arrived at his office.

Mr. Scotman sat behind his desk.

“Please, have a seat.” Mr. Scotman gestured to the brown leather chairs that sat in front of his desk.

I slowly walked over to one of them, taking off my bag before I sat down and carefully set my bag down at one of the legs of the chair.

“I’m sure you’re ready to get training, but you got here earlier than I thought. It’s still early in the day and your training doesn’t start until tomorrow.” Mr. Scotman started digging into his desk.

He said it was still early in the day, it was around 2 pm. I was incredibly tired but I don’t think he could tell.

“Here,” Mr. Scotman tossed me the map of IMF HQ, I nearly dropped it but I’m glad I didn’t, “take a tour if you want, but I’d suggest getting to know the other taining agents.”

“I’ll look into it, thank you.” I said, unfolding the small map before looking up at Mr. Scotman. “Is that all?”

“Yes it is, I hope to see you out in the field, Mr. Dunn.” He smiled at me and leaned back in his chair.

I nodded,grabbing my bag and putting it on before leaving the office, I was glad to be out of there. I felt intimidated but that was probably because I was new.

I sighed and started following the map to the Training Agents Quarters. Once out of the busy Agent area, I let out a sigh of relief. I hated big areas with lots of people running around, made me feel uncomfortable and I don’t plan on being set in that scene anytime soon.

I reached the hall of the TAQ (Training Agents Quarters). It was pretty much empty, a door was open at the end of the hall and I could hear laughing and talking coming from there. I slowly started walking towards the door, the closer I got the more nervous I felt.

I slowly walked into the room and the others hushed, they all looked around my age, somewhere in their 20’s.

“Who are you?” One of them spoke up, leaning in on the table they were all sitting around.

I swallowed hard before taking a deep breath. “Benji Dunn..’

“Oh, you’re the British fellow they told us about! Came just in time for the start up of training tomorrow.” Another spoke and the rest chuckled.

“Well, should introduce ourselves,” The original agent spoke, “I’m Sam, this is Sydney, that’s Ethan, that’s Aaron and finally that’s Mason.” He said, pointing to each agent as he said their names.

“Do you know who you’re sharing a room with?” Mason asked. I really didn’t know how to answer this, I was a bit nervous still and I’m sure my legs were shaking.

“I-I have to share a room?” I asked, taking another deep breath.

Sam nodded. “Yeah, there’s only five rooms. They only recruited a sixth because they really thought proud of the sixth recruit, which I’m guessing is you.”

I rose my eyebrows, did they really think that highly of me? I really had no chance against any of them, they all were buff and looked the part, even Sydney. Sydney looked like she could tap me and I’d get a bruise. I was a twig compared to them. “I… guess I’ll have to choose, they never said I had to share a room so they didn’t assign me one.”

The little table group leaned in and started whispering and nodding before they all sat back in their chairs, this made me really uncomfortable.

“Well, if you’re comfortable with it Sydney.” Sam nods and the whole table stood up.

“Well, it's time for bed, nice meeting you Benji.” Ethan nodded to me before the other filed out of the room and to their rooms, to which I followed Sydney.

Once in the room I figured out why they all had be bunk with Sydney, she was the one with the second bed.

“One rule I have,” She said, turning to me, “don’t try anything funny. I can get you erased from this agency with a single word.”

I walked over to my bed, taking off my bag and sitting on my bed. “Don’t worry, I wasn’t going to.”

Sydney looked over to me, raising an eyebrow. “Oh really?’”

I looked up at her. “I’m just… awkward. Plus I’m not really interested in that stuff, I’m more of a computer guy.”

Sydney chuckles. “Computer guy? So you’re interested in all sorts of technology?”

I nodded, laying out on my bed and kicking my shoes off. “Yeah, I even got a laptop when they first went up a few years ago. Since then I’ve gotten into them and I’ve learned a lot.”

Sydney nods, sitting on her bed. “Right, well we should get some sleep.”

“You’re right… gotta make sure we have enough energy tomorrow.” I said, getting under my cover and curling up.

“Goodnight Benji.” Sydney said, a slight joking tone in her voice.

“Right, right..” I said, turning over on my bed. I was really excited about tomorrow but it was all so nerve wrecking at the same time. I didn’t know if I was going to succeed but I had my heart set out on it.

I knew I could do this.

Obligatory new job post: Update

So Id like to tell you guys about my new job as a Manufacturing Technician for a (very) small biotech company. And when I say small, I mean small. Theres only 15 people in the whole company. But 3 of those people, myself included, have been hired over the last month. So its growing fast. The company makes PCR reagents, both custom mixes/ standard market mixes, And the individual components. 

My actual job consists of extensive paperwork, mixing buffers, preparing reagents, Quality Control tests, going all the way up to the final product. The work is actually very interesting. Theres lots of interesting processes involved in how we make the Taq-pol. Also being inside the biotech industry and seeing how things are actually done. 

Its only been two days and I still have so much to learn. But so far I really like it! And I think im going to get along there very well for a good long while. Im hoping to work towards being transferred to the R&D lab at some point. As that department is going through a big shake up in a couple months, and might be looking for more help. Although theres another Tech whose been there over a year whose much more likely to be moved then me.

Fic Updates Again

Okay, so I apparently am writing a fic for Abovetale that came out of nowhere (Frisk/Asriel this time). Once I’m done that one, I’m going to get my ass back to TAQ. I’m hooooping (health pending) that I’ll finish that story by the end of the weekend, so that I can finally get started on the third part.

However.

I plan to take a short hiatus between TAQ and that third part in order to work on Nestegg for a while, a fic I’ve been sorely neglecting and really miss writing. Since I still have no idea how long that fic will end up being, I’m not sure how many chapters I’ll have up by the time I’m ready to continue with the third part of the Empress and The Queen, BUT I WILL BE UPDATING IT. It WILL be a trilogy.

And @the-fox333, I’m going to send you a question about Nestegg, so keep your eyes on your inbox, as it’s important and I need to know in order to continue onward. :D it’ll make you laugh, but it’s an idea I have, to make the fic a little more personal for ya.
