Chen is Karen Chen’s (successful women’s skater) brother. He also skates at MIDA under Charlie White and Tanith White (Olympic medalists). USFS wants the Whites to be successful to compete with IAM in Montreal/Ontario. Unfortunately Charlie (while I love him) has boring teams and even more boring choreo (imo) but USFS is gonna push them anyway. M/C have not been given a GP spot so they don’t actually have as many spots as B/V (thank god). Annabelle’s dad is also a well known person in the skating world. Elena is still kinda an up and comer in seniors so between Montreal (Chock/Bates and kinda Oona and Gage), Scott Moir (CPom), Igor (Zingas/Kolesnik and Pate/Bye), and the MIDA teams (Green/Parsons, Bratti/Somerville, Morozov/Chen) she has a lot of work to do politically. It helps her husband is an ISU tech controller but we shall see. I lowkey wonder if Montreal tries to poach one of her teams after Maddie and Evan retire (or they try to poach Green/Parsons) to keep another American team at the Montreal location and not just the Ontario location. Montreal has Pham/Spiridonov but idk if that’s gonna go anywhere and i think Montreal would want a potentially competitive American team.
☝🏽
Thank you for this!

Why is the USFS so dead set on green and parsons? To prop Charlie and tanith’s new school because their top 2 teams are already from IAM?
I’m hoping C/P can use their extra time off (due to not going to worlds) to get even stronger and come back next season with more kickass programs. Such a stark contrast between a Charlie white choreographed program and an IAM one (I believe Marie-France and Madi did C/P’s free?)
The thing is - are CPom not going to worlds? I would assume USFS are telling them to stay in top notch shape, they would have done it regardless since they are 1st alternates but given H/B's status there's a solid chance their season is not over yet.
CPom's FD is by far the better program, their score today baffled me, I was expecting 116-117 but the tech box was frozen and they got significantly lower and looking at the protocols they were just lowballed in GOE and PCS which is really annoying since it's uncalled for.

US Nationals Men’s SP Pt. 1
Alright, my friends. Welcome to the men’s competition of the U.S. Figure Skating Nationals. I was out last night and couldn’t do the ladies’ longs, but I’ll do them later today. Today, we have Nathan, Vincent, Jason, and Camden starting their journey to Worlds. Should be a great competition. Here we go!
(I’ve been watching the NBC SportsGOLD stream and I absolutely love Tanith and Charlie as commentators! They offer good commentary but remain quiet throughout the entire performance. It’s so nice. And sidenote, dorky me just realized that we have a husband/wife team with them, so they play off each other well.)
Nathan Chen will likely go down as the G.O.A.T. of US Men’s figure skating. He should win this easily. And he starts off with a beautiful quad. Triple axel nice and beautiful. This is a very mature program for him and I know I’ve said it before, but I love the difference in this one and his long. Easy quad combo. That’s our Nathan. He’ll be in first easily. His scores just keep getting higher and higher.
Alexei Krasnozhon is so tall compared to Nathan. Or seems to be. He’s also from Plano so I can’t hate on him too badly. Shaky triple lutz but nice triple axel. I believe I said it in the fall, but I’m not sure this style suits him but you can see the attempt to present a more artistic side. He gets more into it during the vocal part, so I think he could do with a more rock number. Not bad, but not great either.
Sean Rabbit is an oldie. He coaches. He choreographs. I believe he’s been to senior Nationals for near a decade now. Very lovely triple-triple. I love when guys are still skating when they are 29, it shows a read love of the sport. He looks so happy and friendly. Nice triple axel. He’s just beaming through the whole program. And all his jumps are clean. His expression is so joyous, I almost feel he needs one of those big movie scores where the heros win and the sun comes out and all is right with the world. He’s very happy with that. Standing ovation from the crowd. Very nice. Score is a little low. I would have had him in the low 80s.
Vincent Zhou has had a rough year. He started college, had to withdraw from the Grand Prix and has said he doesn’t feel ready for this competition. I’ve nver been a fan of Vincent’s but I have to say this is the most relaxed, the most...himself (personality) I’ve ever seen. Already a completely different program for him. Easy quad and triple-triple. Damn, what is with the skaters I don’t like coming with programs that I actually like?! He landed all his jumps. I really like this new version of Vincent. That was great. Maybe he needed the trials of the fall, not having the pressure, not feeling ready to allow him to let go and be free. He’s in 2nd.
Andrew Torgashev is next. He wants to improve from 7th last year. I don’t remember him really, but he starts with a nice quad. He’s a very elegant skater, nice lines and follow through on movements. All his jumps are clean. Now he needs to sell it.Okay I jumped at that really random change in tempo but he’s geting into the footwork which has a bit of hip-hop in it. Nice. I enjoyed that, it was kind of fun. Men are killing it today. Holy shit, he’s above Vincent! Wow!
Camden Pulkinen has had an up and down fall. He made an impression at Skate America but not quite that well in his second assignment. Nice high quad. Oh stumbles out of the triple axel. Oh, he popped the second of his triple-triple. Not good, he’ll lose a required element for that. Not the performance he wanted at all.

ice-dance.com interview w Raffaella Koncius/Alexey Shchepetov talking about MIDA - the training schedule and environment:
Last spring [of 2023] the duo moved to Canton, Michigan to work with Tanith White, Charlie White and Greg Zuerlein at the Michigan Ice Dance Academy (MIDA).
“We couldn’t be happier at MIDA. We made the move there in early May, and it has been wonderful having three coaches who have such an incredible eye for detail and know how to push and work us hard,” Koncius explained. “The environment is amazing; everyone is so nice, we all get along, we hangout outside the rink. It is nice having a huge support group, and we all help each other through our double free dance days.”
“We usually skate from 8-2 with breaks here and there. Then on Tuesdays/Thursdays we have ballet, Monday/Wednesday is workout, and Fridays are pilates. We have all three coaches every day for about an hour, and then we also skate by ourselves”.
