Legazpi City steps up eco-waste management initiatives
#PHinfo: Legazpi City steps up eco-waste management initiatives
LEGAZPI CITY, Jan 8 (PIA) – The Legazpi City Environment and Natural Resources Office has initiated the awarding and recognition of barangays with proper eco-waste management practices as part of its effort for the effective implementation of the city’s “no segregation, no collection policy.”
“This policy which is anchored on the city’s Ecological Solid Waste Management Program (ESWMP) is proof of Legazpi‘s identity as a strong modern city that maintains a healthful and environmental-friendly community,” City Mayor Noel Rosal said.
Rosal commended the role of the eco-waste managers and eco-aides for the effective implementation of the said policy in the city. He also reminded the people in local communities of the strict prohibition in burning garbage in backyards as one way of reducing toxic emissions generated by waste materials which greatly contributes to global warming.
He cited that his administration has constructed another concrete cell for the sanitary landfill in Brgy. Banquerohan that would serve as the next dumpsite of waste materials.
Legazpi City is acclaimed as the only local government unit in the Bicol region with engineered sanitary landfill fully compliant with Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act (ESWM) Act of 2000.
