Goal of the Day: Write one sentence
Result:
Tali tugged her coat closed and crossed her arms over the worn green fabric, hiding the compass beneath. She wasn’t the Trader Head, she wasn’t a Trader, she was Jolnde’s niece and she just wanted to rest.
Ahead of her, the gates of the Cloth Hall stood closed, their dark metal lonely against the gray cast sky. Before they reached it, one of the guards stepped out of the gazebo covering and waited for them.
She was a young lady, with brown hair pulled back into a twisted bun at the top of her head and sharp eyes. Holding up a hand for them to slow, she called out in Northern, “This is a private entrance, business is done only at the store fronts.”
Trudging forward, Tali shook her head. “I am here to see my aunt, nothing more.”
While the lady guard gave Tali a narrowed stare, the secondary guard walked out of the cover and gave them all a look over. He was older, with gray hairs on his temple and lines around his eyes, but physically capable of dealing with anyone who gave the halls trouble.
“Traders,” the lady said quietly. “One of them wants to see her aunt.”
“Tell Jolnde her niece is here with some friends,” Tali said, just loud enough that they could hear her without shouting.
The man gave the younger guard a nod, who then loped off over the open grounds. The man though continued to stare at Tali with an intensity that only came from thinking hard behind the narrowed look. After a moment, his glare widened and he said in Imperial, “You’re little Talsash.”
Relieved, Tali smiled at the nickname she hadn’t heard since she was ten.
“Come, come,” the man said, beckoning them forward before he opened the gate.

Tag Game: OC Interview
Tagged By: @quilloftheclouds
Rules: Pick a character from your WIP, and have them answer these 15 questions, then tag 15 people!
1. What is your full name?
“Tali basa Yera i Khaled,” Tali says with a smooth transition from her name to her parents’ then smiles, “i s’basa Yin. Technically. Or Tali Star-Tabar if you want what I go by.”
2. What does your full name mean?
Tali smiles with that, “Tali child of Yera and Khaled,” she pauses as she searches for a word.. “the closest translation is niece but there’s a connotation in my culture that does not translate well... nice-heir of Yin. The other one is my known name, what I am known by.”
She puts her right hand on her left arm and pulls out an ax, metal rod and head, all engraved with stars. “The Star Tabar.”
3. What are your nicknames/other names?
“Tals,” she says with a fond, but sad smile, “Talsi, and when I was little, Little Talsash, which is three ways of redundant, but that is what happens when you have people speaking three languages who all dote on you.”
4. Whats your gender?
“I am a woman,” she says with a wink.
(She is also intersex.)
5. Whats your sexuality?
“Oh, so you’re interested then?” she laughs, “brown, uh, I like girls and boys and otherwise.” She smiles and sighs. “Everyone is just so attractive. Muscles and smiles and curly hair and smooth hair and deep dark eyes like the stillness of the night or bright as the day.”
(She’s Bi)
6. Where are you from?
Snapping up from her tangent, she pauses, “From? Um... I don’t think you got the whole traveling merchant thing.”
7. How old are you?
She sits up after that, puffing out her chest and holding her head high. “Twenty, I am an adult by my people’s measurings and yours.”
8. What is your magic form/species?
Tali looks confused for a moment, then lifts her compass, “Like, my magic...?” She pauses then, stopping suddenly and a flash of narrowed eyes crosses her face before she tilts her head. “Or what my shadow is.”
“..uh shadow?” the interviewer says, confused, “please, explain.”
Tali relaxes slightly, but not much, “They forced me to choose between my family and my friends, so I punch them. Picked both.” She crosses her arms. “Spirits be damned, they’re not taking anyone from me.”
9. What does your human form look like?
“Coils of curly red hair, freckles like sunlit mud splattered across my face and skin, eyes like weathered copper,” she smiles into her hand and looks away, “I sound like Den,” she sighs, “well, his words, not mine. Mine, a scar across my face I claimed and marked my face with my name, tattoos and piercings scattered about, tall enough Sehat calls me Talsi.”
10. What’s your aesthetic?
Tali makes a motion at herself, at the dusty clothes, the loose curls pinned up in a messy bun, the bracelets and necklaces and anklets, the boots, the pins on her shirt and the scars as numerous as her tattoos.
“My aesthetic is me,” she says.
11. Who’s your best friend?
“Sehat,” she says, “Or Den, depending on who I am hanging out with.”
12. Would you ever get a piercing/tattoo?
Tali laughs, loud and clear and happy, her tongue piercing catching the light as she raises a tattooed hand to brush a curl back from her nicked ear. “Yeah.”
13. When are you happiest?
“When I’m with the people I love,” she says, sobering quickly, then breaking into a sly smile, “Or when the magic has made me euphoric, but that’s not healthy happiness.”
(Tali’s Bipolar so the manic stage...)
14. What’s your biggest secret?
She’s quiet for a moment, then almost whispers, “that I miss my parents, my siblings, my family, that I sometimes cry when there’s no one else to know.”
(Trader culture says crying too much will keep the spirits from moving on.)
15. What was your first impression of ______?
Tali shrugs, “My first impression of Odelle came in two parts, the first was ‘wow, she’s pretty’ then the second was ‘wow, she’s too much drama for me’ because she’s a lot to deal with. Still pretty though.”
