@Pundaquit, Zambales. It is also one of the best sites to watch sunsets and sunrises, go swimming, and go island hopping right here at Pundaquit Beach. Pundaquit is the closest boat rental location to the islands you want to explore, making it possible to circle a large number of them. Let's go, then!!
These are the locations on the island that can be visited.
Camara Island
Capones Island
Nagsasa Cove
Annawangin Cove
Talisayen Cove
They will spend their summer at this tourist attraction in our region. We locals are running out of venues to experience summer because it is so crowded with tourists, hehe.

Mt. Tapulao Traversed to Mt. Pundaquit Traverse to Anawangin Cove Traverse to Talisayen Cove
Mt. Tapulao Traversed to Mt. Pundaquit Traverse to Anawangin Cove Traverse to Talisayen Cove
Mt. Tapulao would have been my 2nd Major Climb. The first one was Mt. Baling Kilat and I was not prepared for that. Two weeks before the climb, I had researched about Mt. Tapulao and had reviewed the itinerary sent to me. It was an 18 kilometer hike up. At 16km we would set our camp and hike the 2km remaining to the summit early the next morning. It would be a total of 36km hike including the…

I’m not a fan of the beach; the combination of the sun, sand, and sea gives a sticky, greasy feeling. But the night sky in (almost) total darkness is such a beauty that I’d tolerate being on the beach. I’d love to experience this on the mountains. Maybe next time.
It was a cloudy night, and when I first attempted to shoot from the beach at around 8pm, it was too cloudy that there is almost no clear patch of the night sky. In addition, there are motion sensor light posts installed by the beach. Went back to my room by 10 because a) I was already frustrated that it would be cloudy all night b) the high tide would cut off access on the way back the to the room c) I’m drunk
PS: I had to edit the post since the photo captions don’t show in Tumblr’s mobile app.
Tumblr media
After sobering up, I peeked outside of the window to check if it was still cloudy. Luckily, the clouds have decided to move on and stop ruining my plans. I went to the area just outside the house where I was staying, and noticed that the stars are more visible now. I went back to get my tripod and started shooting. This was around 3 am. Notice the leaves from a coconut tree on the bottom right of the photo.
Tumblr media
This is not how it looks like at all in person. Although there are visible stars, they all just appear as specks of light. Even on the camera’s EVF, the sky is just dark with barely visible specks. It didn’t help that I was shooting this from a well-lit area. I was basically just aiming at areas where more stars are visible.
Tumblr media
This was the shot I posted in IG, sans IG filters, and some post-processing rendered. I was hoping for a shot which would show the night sky and some landscape, to show context.
Tumblr media
Lucky shot. I never realized the blues and reds and yellows until I reviewed the photos, they all just appeared white. Post-processing made the colors more apparent. I didn’t follow the 500 rule in astrophotograpy, so you can notice star trails if you zoom in on the photo. Taken in Masasa Beach, Tingloy, Batangas.
Tumblr media
Taken in Talisayen Cove, Zambales. This was the first shot where the mountain and the sky backdrop are relatively clear. Although the beach was well-lit by the moon, it’s not as bright as this picture made it appear. The boats just appear as silhouettes.
Tumblr media
Moonset. I forgot to take into account the lunar phase on the date of the trip. I was hoping for a new moon so that the stars would be more visible. The moon has it's own beauty though. When the moon has finally disappeared completely into the horizon, it was already too windy outside. The wind was howling through the trees, and gives off that vibe in horror movies when someone is about to get killed or when a manananggal is about to make its first appearance in the forest. I decided to stay on the tent for the remainder of the night.
Tumblr media
It almost looks like the photo was taken in daytime. I prefer a dark night sky, but I enjoyed basking in the moonlight by the beach. I loved the silence, although the locals were loudly playing Tagalog folk songs (think Pilita Corrales) until around 8pm, probably to ward off the mananaggal.
Tumblr media
I loved how the moonlight struck the rocky portion of the beach. The photo doesn't do it justice. I must say, the cove is more scenic on a moonlit night than it is during sunrise or sunset. Part of its charm must be its relatively undeveloped state.

Our next stop: Nagsasa Cove
It was supposed to be Talisayen Cove but since, we expected it to be just the same with Anawangin, we skipped going and proceeded to our now next stop: Nagsasa. I’ve heard and read a lot of good comments about Nagsasa, so I got high expectation about the place. Yes, it was indeed beautiful and much bigger than Anawangin. The water was really clear too. But I was kind of disappointed because maybe. I was expecting too much. It was okay though. The view made me feel at peace, nevertheless. So yes, we ate first on the boat before roaming around the shore. Mang Pedring, the boatman, told us that we can climb up the hilltop where we can see the view of the whole cove. We wanted to but it was too hot for our liking, plus we were very tired (most of us had no sleep at all). Such a shame, I know, but we will surely come back here.
There was a narrow river on the right side of the cove that connects the lake and the sea. It was low tide when we got there and the water was mossy and pretty dirty. Low tide = stagnant. It only means that the water does not flows into the sea. But the viewwww! The mountains behind makes you look like you are in a foreign land but lo and behold, you are just in your own country. Philippines is indeed such a beauty.
There was also a spot where you can dive. It was just not that high. It was a rock you had to climb on. Maybe 10 or so feet dive below. Also, there was a waterfall where you can also trek for about an hour. It was so sad that we didn’t have much time to visit it. Next time, though. (ノ´ヮ´)ノ*:・゚✧
So yep, after our photo op sessions and whatnot, we were now off to our last stop: Silanguin Cove.
Will post about it soon.
