a jo poem for jo's joyous birthday! she is her mother's daughter her father's son etc etc but who is she when she is alone in an empty room.

There’s always someone to be 

Her father: leather jacket, swagger,

Gasoline gun oil solid silver dagger. 

Her mother: old flannel, shouting,

Beer baking soft sheets shattered blind doubting.

Her brother: speeding car, charisma,

Pretty blunt bloodied boy make believe soldier. 

Herself: leather jacket, shouting,

Pretty gasoline girl shattered silver dagger.

There’s always someone to be,

And the audience never goddam leaves.

In a room without mirrors would she let the act fall?

If a girl is in a room without mirrors, is she even a girl at all?
