“Oh? *I* get to be in charge of our lovely Princes? Hehe. I graciously accept the challenge.”
Tumblr media
[SR] Yuusha Tala -> GROOOOVY!! Glimmering Soirée (fan event by @starry-night-rose)
Tumblr media
Groooovy!!: Hehe. If you want to dance with me, you’re gonna have to keep up with me first.
Set Home: Yeah, yeah… I know I’m just a glorified attendant and I don’t really have any say over the Princes... Look, just let me have this.
Home Idle 1: Helping Deuce act like a Prince has been really hilarious. But credit where credit is due, seeing him try his best is really charming.
Home Idle 2: Wow. Somehow Azul became less insufferable after being trained as a Prince. ….Wait. Nevermind. He’s still the same.
Home Idle 3: Kalim and Hornton seem to be a natural at this. I guess I should have expected that. It’s really nice to see them shine.
Home Idle - Login: Has anyone seen Grim? I swear I saw him lurking around here somewhere…
Home Idle - Groovy: I could go for "Belle of the Ball" if I really wanted to, especially since I'm the one who helped take care of everything after all. But alas, why would you vote for the magicless prefect..? Wait, unless.….
Home Tap 1: Where did I put that ghost camera? I was just holding it just a while ago… Huh? It’s around my neck? Well, that’s embarrassing. Oh stop laughing at me, will ya?
Home Tap 2: The others say I’m like a different person when I go into "manager" mode. …And they say it either like a compliment or an insult so I’m getting mixed messages.
Home Tap 3: Ugh. This cape is cool and all but people keep getting caught by it. So annoying.
Home Tap 4: Would I compete in being the Belle of the Ball if I wasn't taking care of the Princes? Depends. Would you vote for me? ~ ♡ …What do you mean you’ll give me a "pity" vote.
Home Tap 5: No, I’m not staring "longingly" at that band! …But hypothetically, do you think they’d let me play an instrument with them?
Home Tap - Groovy: Oh, wow. Crazy that they totally just left this violin here. Hmmm…..

notes:
i had fun with the voice lines aaah but it might have some changes when i’m done with the groovy (and i’ll properly put her in an actual card template)
also slight lore drop from one of the voice lines: yuusha has experience hosting formal parties pre-twst. basically she just locks in (a bit too heavily) when she has hosting duties.
(some of the voice lines also foreshadow the groovy 👀)
anyways i was just messing around a lot with the outfit design and the colors hgsdfjds
i tried my best making her purple color scheme agree with the limited color palette and i think it worked out??? idk idk--
also the cape was supposed to have patterns similar to the ceremonial robes so as to label her as someone from nrc.
i wanted to include a LOT more ruffles too but i had no patience for lining all of that 🤧
(bonus sketches/concepts below)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
at first i based off her suit on hans frozen but then (because of pinterest giving me ideas) i realized i wanted a more fun outfit and so here i am-
(also help me i meant to have the voice lines to be just talking to anyone but it just hit me that it sounds like she’s talking to jamil 💀 girl they just can’t leave me alone they live in my head 24/7 rent-free)

♛ → THE RIVERLANDS present CYRENE FREY NÉE STARK, the RULING LADY of THE CROSSING / THE TWINS and PRINCESS of WINTERFELL. when the dragons danced in the sky they thought the BLACKS would still fly, but in the blink of an eye, they would all die. the THIRTY year old FEMALE who was SHREWD & RELENTLESS before they saw the first of the flames, is now CUNNING & CYNICAL after seeing the last. they’re often associated with the heavy weight of a winter cloak, heated arguments, and tightly interwoven fingers in a desperate grip. ( olivia cooke )
; physical attributes
— height; 5 ft 6 — eye colour; brown-green — hair colour; auburn — positive traits before the war; confident, daring, shrewd — negative traits before the war; relentless, hot-headed, disobedient — positive traits after the war; independent, cunning, perceptive — negative traits after the war; cynical, stubborn, withdrawn
; bio
— born 114 AC
— eldest daughter of lord rickon stark and lady lyarra blackwood
— her temperament had known no bounds as a girl. willful, stubborn and wild. bold and restless. where she was not adept in sword fighting, she had perfect the art of cutting words, witty quips and burning jests. to the very detriment of her parents, cyrene had developed quite the potty mouth. spite had been the reason, mostly. childish spite for whatever she encountered that seemed to limit her, that appeared to put her in a place she did not feel comfortable in.
— she adored her siblings. owen was the person she bickered with the most. differences of opinion or simply differences in interpretation, the two of them would be found fighting in a manner that would have councils dismissed to retain privacy. due to their closeness in age, cyrene had been closest with her brother jon and her sister dacey. each of them a year apart and a mischievous trio. jon, the aspiring and valiant knight. cyrene, the spitfire lady as a challenge to any suitor that approached her. dacey, the sickly child blooming under her siblings' care and love. cassana was the youngest and carried a soft, overly protective spot in cyrene's heart.
— war broke out in the lands when cyrene was but six and ten years of age. old enough, to be put to use. old enough to advance the war effort. first, her hand in marriage was given to brandon karstark. loud but gentle bran karstark, a walking contradiction that cyrene found joy in figuring out. in provoking and tickling him out of his tightly held shell. when the war effort progressed, the betrothal to the ruling lord of karhold was severed. instead, cyrene was wed to the ruling lord of the crossing and the twins, lord frey.
— as she went to the riverlands, she left her direwolf behind. they were fearsome creatures to those unused to them, and they belonged in the north, just like cyrene knew she did as well. she left behind tala with a heavy heart. cyrene inquired about her in a letter at one point. when she’d read that tala was sat near the gates much of the time, seemingly waiting for her to return, cyrene ceased to ask about her all together.
— the dance of dragons raged on for two more years. during that time, cyrene played the dutiful wife. subdued in her stubbornness, reprimanded and scolded whenever she spoke out of turn. her place was on no war councils, no space for her advising anyone. in the riverlands, cyrene stark was a stranger. cyrene frey knew her place and cultivated her position. it was something detested at first. and, it was not as easy as it was supposed to be. cyrene did not come to be with child for quite a while, and not due to lack of trying. it was a non-issue at first. sometimes, it took time. as the war found its peak however, and men withered and faded away under blades and dragonfire, the issue of succession in house frey was put under question. a careful alliance had been forged between house stark and house frey, joined in marriage but not yet blood. and the blame was placed on cyrene. her womb had not yet quickened and as time passed, rumours spiralled that maybe it never would.
— it wore her down to her bones. whittled to pieces and reduced to something that did not resemble herself. quiet and watchful of her every step. it was unlike her to fear stepping out of turn and drawing attention to herself. but, her title mattered little when she could not follow through on what was expected of her. the she wolf, reduced to naught but the shadow of a mouse.
— and then, two years after her marriage to the ruling lord of house frey, cyrene did fall pregnant. the rumours seemed to vanish into thin air then, replaced by joy for the future of house frey. a heavy burden fell from cyrene’s shoulders at the news, though the fear did not entirely leave her until her child was delivered. or, more accurately, her children. almost in a twist of fate, cyrene gave birth to twins. wylla and mako frey.
— the war ended and her duty done, cyrene could feel what was shattered and ripped apart stitch back together. she was not broken like so many people would’ve had her believe. slowly, she found back to herself. a woman grown, a fierce creature reemerged. no longer the wild and feisty girl that had left winterfell, but instead a woman reborn in the knowledge that she was more than capable of the things that were expected of her. cyrene began to leverage her position once more. she wielded her power, her wit and charm, though there was a hardness to it now. she tolerated no nonsense flung at her, no slight was overseen.
— for a while, there was peace, the kingdoms of westeros rebuilding themselves. no longer seven, joined as one, but split apart. cyrene no longer only came from a powerful lordly family in the north. her blood was counted to the likes of royalty now.
— peace was followed by unrest in her homelands. the umbers rose and cyrene wrote letters from her seat in the riverlands, begging her siblings to come to safety. her pleas were rejected. then, her brother jon was killed, his body desecrated alongside his wolf’s. wracked with grief, cyrene wrote more letters, begging for at least her sisters to be brought to safety within her care. more refusals followed. from afar, cyrene would have to simply endure the news of kidnappings and murder. more sadness followed with the death of queen rosalyn and the disappearance of alysanne. she’d never quite gotten along with alysanne, but the news still left cyrene a little more hollow than before.
— after nearly six years of being away from her home, cyrene decided it was time to return. to get to know her family again, to offer support in difficult times, to receive support in turn even if she did not openly ask for it. she managed to convince her husband to let her take wylla to winterfell with her, with the compromise of leaving the heir to the twins with his lord father.

The Importance of Rhythm and Music in Bharatanatyam
Bharatanatyam, one of the most revered classical dance forms of India, is a captivating blend of rhythm, music, and expressive storytelling. Integral to its allure and artistry are the elements of rhythm (tala) and music (raga), which provide the structural and emotional foundation for this dance form. Understanding the significance of these elements is crucial for both dancers and enthusiasts to fully appreciate the beauty and complexity of Bharatanatyam classes near me.
The Role of Rhythm (Tala) in Bharatanatyam
Foundation of Movements
Rhythm, or tala, is the heartbeat of Bharatanatyam indian classical dance classes near me. It provides a structured framework within which the dancer executes precise and intricate movements. The rhythm dictates the tempo and timing of each step, gesture, and pose, ensuring that the performance is both cohesive and captivating.
Types of Talas
Bharatanatyam utilizes a variety of talas, each with its distinct beat pattern and tempo. Some of the common talas include:
Adi Tala: A cycle of 8 beats (4+2+2) and is the most commonly used tala in Bharatanatyam.
Rupaka Tala: Consists of 6 beats (3+2+1) and is known for its fluidity.
Khanda Chapu Tala: A cycle of 5 beats, adding a dynamic and challenging rhythm for the dancer.
Enhancing Precision and Coordination
Mastery of tala is essential for achieving precision and coordination in Bharatanatyam classes near me. Dancers must internalize the rhythm to synchronize their movements seamlessly with the beats, creating a harmonious blend of motion and sound. This synchronization enhances the visual and auditory impact of the performance.
Building Stamina and Endurance
Practicing and performing to different talas helps build a dancer's stamina and endurance. The rhythmic patterns demand consistent energy and focus, conditioning the dancer’s body to sustain long and intricate performances.
The Role of Music (Raga) in Bharatanatyam
Emotional Expression
Music, or raga, is the soul of Bharatanatyam indian classical dance classes near me. It infuses the dance with emotion, mood, and atmosphere. Each raga evokes a specific rasa (emotion), enabling the dancer to convey a wide range of feelings, from joy and love to sorrow and devotion.
Enhancing Storytelling
Bharatanatyam is renowned for its storytelling through dance, known as abhinaya. The raga complements the narrative by providing a melodic and emotional backdrop. The lyrics of the songs often tell stories from Indian mythology, and the raga helps in bringing these stories to life through its melodic nuances.
Musical Instruments
A typical Bharatanatyam classes near me performance is accompanied by various traditional instruments, each contributing to the richness of the music:
Nattuvangam: Cymbals played by the nattuvanar, who also recites rhythmic syllables (solkattu).
Mridangam: A percussion instrument that provides the primary beat.
Violin and Flute: Melodic instruments that enhance the musical depth.
Vocalist: Sings the lyrics, guiding the emotional tone of the performance.
Inspiring Creativity
Music inspires creativity and improvisation in Bharatanatyam. While the choreography follows a structured format, the dancer often adds personal interpretations and improvisations to the raga, making each performance unique and spontaneous.
The Synergy of Rhythm and Music
Creating Harmony
The synergy between tala and raga is what makes Bharatanatyam indian classical dance classes near me truly mesmerizing. The intricate footwork and rhythmic patterns are seamlessly integrated with the melodic and emotional flow of the music, creating a harmonious and immersive experience for the audience.
Enhancing Audience Engagement
A well-coordinated interplay of rhythm and music captivates the audience, drawing them into the performance. The dynamic shifts in tempo, the emotive power of the raga, and the precise synchronization of movements keep the audience engaged and emotionally connected to the story being told.
Supporting the Dancer’s Expression
For the dancer, the tala and raga are not just background elements but integral parts of their expression. The rhythm guides their movements, while the music elevates their emotional portrayal, allowing them to communicate deeply with their audience.
Conclusion
Rhythm and music are the lifeblood of Bharatanatyam classes near me, providing the structural and emotional foundation for this exquisite dance form. Mastery of tala ensures precision, coordination, and endurance, while the raga brings emotional depth, storytelling, and creative expression to the performance. Together, they create a mesmerizing synergy that is the hallmark of Bharatanatyam, captivating audiences and preserving the rich cultural heritage of India. Whether you are a dancer or an admirer, appreciating the importance of rhythm and music enhances your understanding and enjoyment of this timeless art form.

-- Kalos Arc II: Exploration (14)
Tumblr media
Heading from Couriway Town down through Route 19 took only a day or so to pass through, and upon reaching said city, they were greeted with while still very warm, less so then Unova. With many stops awaiting them from here, the first one was to check in at the local hotel and then from there, head to the Gym where the local Ice-type Expert of Kalos and Mayor of Snowbelle City awaited; Wulfric. After Leon asking for a match and the older man agreeing, Ashe went and took her seat with Joker and Lucky, enjoying the cold atmosphere greatly.
Presented with an ice-type field, a four on four was presented to Leon as Wulfric sent out his first pokemon; Aurorus. Familiar with fighting one already in Kalos and also seeing Grusha's, Leon sent out Excalibur first. While the Aurorus was a titan and used its heavy size against Excalibur despite the sword pokemon's nimble movements, the Aurorus did fall eventually after a few Sacred Swords and a Swords Dance set up. The next pokemon out on the field was Walrein, and opting to switch out Excalibur for now, Leon sent out Miyagi in his place. The two pokemon clashed in a battle of titans, but despite the hits each endured, it would be Miyagi that came out on top.
Opting to keep Miyagi in as the Walrein was returned, Wulfric sent out his ace and partner, Avalugg, next. The immovable fortress of a pokemon took a punch to the face as the battle began and only smirked before biting down hard, the bear roaring in protest. Such a battle began of the Avalugg beginning to cover far and close movements and Miyagi eventually falling with the Avalugg. Next and final was the mega evolution battle of Abomasnow versus Charizard. The two titans met each other head on after receiving their special forms and although Bahamut had a type advantage, the Abombasnow was no pushover in freezing Bahamut's wing solid and causing him to become grounded.
It took burning the ice from the floor away to unsettle the Abomasnow and a powerful Blast Burn to follow that up to its face. Upon the Abomasnow being defeated and Bahamut settling into his usual form and defrosting his wing, Leon received the final badge of Kalos. Ashe joined him and with congratulations from Wulfric and directions on how to get to the Pokemon League from Snowbelle City, Leon and Ashe were on their way and out the door to give the pokemon some loving care at the pokemon center and some time to rest their weary minds from the long journey they had had so far.

Indian Classical Dance Recital with 5 Bible stories
Ruth Prithika is an award-winning dancer who has trained in Bharatanatyam classical dance of southern India since she was 5 years old.
This is a 12-minute solo recital with a lot of content. The full piece is about an hour, these are excerpts.
First is the list of biblical content, then the video, then the credits, then more about Ruth, then some information about the dance form.
A typical bharatnatyam recital or a complete performance routine is called a Maargam. It contains up to 9 elements - see them listed and explained at  https://kalyanikalamandir.com/bharatnatyam-maargam/
Ruth’s Maarga includes these 5 sections contextualized with Christian content. Some of this text is from her description on the Youtube page of the video. Text here in italics is from a review published at  https://narthaki.com/info/rev18/rev2185.html
1. Pushpanjali -  an offering to the Almighty. It is taken from the book of Genesis, the first chapter of the first book of the Holy Bible. The dancer offers her salutations (Pushpanjali) to each of the six days of creation [day and night, sky, earth/ocean/vegetation, sun/moon/stars, creatures, people]. Composition: Guru Vidyashree Radhakrishna; Raaga: malika; Tala:Adi;
 2. Varnam - It begins with a short sloka , which describes Lord Jesus as the protector of the universe, a friend of the needy, a compassionate soul. The first half depicts the birth and the early life of Jesus, while the second half is based on His ministries and miracles. Composition: Guru Vidyashree Radhkrishna; Raaga: Simhendra Madhyama; Tala:Adi
Varnam, the centrepiece of the recital, followed the path of bhakti that described the saviour, Jesus. The pallavi says, "Show me your mercy, grant me the joy of happiness." An interpretation of the pallavi described the different crisis an ordinary human being undergoes, be it physical, metaphysical or spiritual. In times like these, Lord Jesus is our helping hand. The anupallavi described Jesus as the loving son, born to Mary and Joseph. The second half of the varnam says, "I am eagerly waiting to listen to your preaching, grant these keen ears of mine a chance to listen to your remarkable words." It goes on to describe his miracles and how his teachings inspire the devotees.
3. Padam - a unique abhinaya composition which is structured on the conversation of Jesus with a Samaritan woman (scrutinized as an untouchable). It is portrayed by the dancer stepping into the shoes of a Samaritan woman where she goes on to accept Jesus as her Guru. Composition: Guru Vidyashree Radhakrishna; Raaga:Malika; Tala: Adi
4. Keerthanam - The cross symbolizes love. It is considered to be a gift of Jesus to mankind as he takes away all our sins, through His sacrifice, thereby drawing us closer to the Creator. It is depicted in two episodes - one, the crucifixion of Jesus and the other, how the entire folklore receives the cross as a symbol of his sacrificial love. Composition: Mr.Samuel Saadhu; Raaga: Desh; Tala: Adi
A beautiful interpretation this came by innovating a new hasta [single-hand symbolic gesture] in Bharatanatyam to represent the cross,
5. Thillana - based on the resurrection of Christ as described in Luke 24. The recital, thus concludes with the message that Christ has risen and His spirit dwells among His people. Composition: Dr. E.V.S. Maben; Raaga:Sumanesha Ranjani; Tala:Adi (Khanda)
The words [for all the songs were] penned by her father, Dr. Suranjan Maben. The thillana was based on the resurrection of Christ as described in Luke 24. The dancer herself, peeps into the burial tomb of Jesus, and is overjoyed by the message of the angels who says that he is not here, but he dwells in our spirits. The dancer concluded the thillana on Easter day that Christ is risen and is dwelling in each one of us.
The 5 sections, composed by 3 different composers, are in 4 different raags and all use the Adi tala, a popular 8-beat cycle in Carnatic music.

In a FB post, Ruth wrote,
"Bharatanatyam is a dance form that symbolizes unity in diversity within the body. The dancer's body is like a spectrum of colors whose movements are painted across the canvas which is the stage, causing the spectator's gaze to wander all over the surface of the canvas. The unique expressions of the eyes, the hands, the legs and the feet synchronize with the music to create a perfect symphony."
See a terrific 1-minute video, made by Ruth (I think), that shows this at https://www.facebook.com/NatyaKalaConference/posts/156418545717482
This dance form has 55 root mudras (symbolic gestures), and some can be embellished. Read more at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mudras_(dance)#Bharatanatyam

From an article and interview with Ruth about the performance above in the Times of India:
According to Ruth, it was her father who conceptualized the idea and penned the lyrics. Her music teacher gave the lyrics a poetic form, got the music recorded from internationally-recognized artists in Bengaluru, and choreographed the performance.
Vidyashree, the choreographer, said the biggest challenge was that unlike depicting Shiva and Krishna, whose mudras (symbolic gestures] are mentioned in Bharatanatyam, she had to create mudras and costumes suiting Jesus. “We had to start from scratch. We were able to do it, and I am glad people appreciated it.” Read more at: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/63571445.cms?utm_source=contentofinterest&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=cppst

A note about the choreographer:
Guru Vidyashree Radhakrishna established the institution in 1994, choreographed several solo, group and thematic ballets and performed all over India and abroad. Many of her students have won state, national and International level competitions and received scholarships and awards. She is a graded artiste of Doordarshan. Having expertise in both Bharatanatyam and carnatic vocal, she has not only conceptualized and presented several child friendly ballets, but also scripted and choreographed concept based traditional repertoires. As a director, she has organized several festivals such as Aarohana, Nrityadhara and Nrityaniranthara under the banner of Gaana Nritya Academy . http://www.mangaloretoday.com/main/Kristha-Patha-Christ-based-Bharathanatyam-repertoire-in-city-April-1.html

Some information on the mudras from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mudras_(dance)
The Abhinaya Darpa (a descriptive primer for dancers) mentions that the dancer should sing the song by the throat, express the meaning of the song through hand gestures, show the state of feelings in the song by eyes, and express the rhythm with his or her feet.
From the Natya Shastra, a text on the arts, this beautiful quotation and translation is often quoted by Indian classical dance instructors:
"Yato hastastato drishtihi"..."Where the hand is, the eyes follow"" Yato drishtistato manaha"..."Where the eyes go, the mind follows"" Yato manastato bhavaha"..."Where the mind is, there is the feeling"" Yato bhavastato rasaha"..."Where there is feeling, there is mood/flavour, sweetness (i.e., appreciation of art; aesthetic bliss)"
So vast are the subtleties expressed in the hand gestures of hasta that the vastness of what being human entails, and perhaps even what the entire universe contains, might be expressed by the dancer.

Take A Chance On Me (Part 5)
A/N: This is the fifth and last part of Take A Chance On Me. Thank you all for sticking with me! I hope you enjoyed reading this series as much as I enjoyed writing it.
Warning: lots of kissing
Tumblr media
As soon as Tala stepped into the garage the next day, she and Colt made an excuse to duck into a small side room.
She pushed him against the nearest wall the second the door closed behind them, eager to continue where they left off the night before.
Their lips locked - "Maybe-"
And danced against one another's- "-we should-"
Leaving little room for words. "-tell the crew."
Tala pulled away with a groan. "Really, Colt? You're choosing to be chatty now?"
Colt smiled playfully at Tala, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, as she glared up at him.
"You're very enthusiastic for someone who just had her first kiss yester-"
She covered Colt's mouth with a hand and he laughed against her palm. "I told you not to say anything-"
He slid an arm around her waist and spun her, gently switching their places, before he recaptured her lips with his.
Tala was pissed that he was still teasing her but she didn't have time to dwell on it as Colt bit her bottom lip. She fought back the sound caught in her throat, not wanting to give him the satisfaction, and stood on her toes to meet his intensity.
One of Colt's hands found its way into her hair, the other on the small of her back. She was pushing the jacket off his shoulders when the door burst open, flooding the room with light.
They scrambled apart like a couple of frightened cats.
Colt dropped a set of keys to the floor and made a show of picking them up in front of Mona who was standing by the door.
"Right." He cleared his throat. "Thank you for, uh, helping me find my keys, Tala."
He patted her awkwardly on the shoulder, not making eye contact, as Tala straightened her skirt.
"Of course. No problem. Glad we found your, um, keys."
"Must have been some really small keys if it took the two of you this long," Mona rolled her eyes.
Colt choked and Tala felt her cheeks burn.
With a smirk, Mona gestured out the door with her head. "Kaneko's called for a meeting.”
They both trailed behind Mona on the way out, their hands grazing each other's.
"Keys? Really?" Tala turned to Colt with a low voice, trying to stifle her laughter.
He shrugged and laced his fingers with hers. He gave her hand a squeeze before walking away towards the other end of the garage to stand next to Kaneko.
--
"You okay, Tala?" Tala found a spot on a bench next to Logan just as Kaneko began to talk.
"Huh? Yeah, I-" She was suddenly aware of how messy her hair had become and frantically tried to push it back in place. Kaneko stopped talking as Tala's frantic gestures caught his attention and Colt was clearly trying to fight a smile from behind his dad.
Jerk.
Tala blushed as her eyes met Colt's and they both looked away to avoid suspicion.
Kaneko continued on, quickly discussing the hand off of the stolen ten-million-dollar cars to The Brotherhood. Tala tried to look focused, shaping her face into a stern gaze but her eyes kept wandering to Colt.
After everything had been discussed - or at least as much as Kaneko was willing to disclose - they had dinner in the back room. The rest of the crew then went their separate ways for the night to work on their own projects, leaving Tala and Logan with the dishes.
"Hey, thanks for helping me out." Logan nudged her shoulders with his as he scrubbed a plate with a sponge.
"No problem, it's always fun to spend time with you." And it really was, Tala realized.
She had come to think of him as a good friend. Her life would still be incredibly mundane if she hadn’t met him and she was grateful for that, but she also knew she had something that needed to be said.
"Listen, Logan-"
He stopped scrubbing and stiffened beside her. When he didn't say anything, Tala decided to continue.
"Colt and I, we're-"
We're what? Tala panicked.
She and Colt hadn't talked about it yet. Their lips were too busy doing something else.
And now that she was about to say it out loud, she realized she had no idea what she and Colt were, exactly. Or even, if they were anything at all.
"We-" Her hands shook a little.
"It's okay, Tala." Logan dried off his hand and lightly thumped Tala's shoulder with a fist. "I know."
"What?" She turned to him, eyes wide.
He shrugged and gave her a thin smile. "I think I knew the moment I saw you two talking at the sideshow."
The sideshow? That was the first time Tala met Colt. If she was being honest, she had wanted to punch the smug grin off his face since the second he spoke to her.
"What do you mean?"
"Nothing, just-" He shook his head and turned back to the dishes. "A hunch, I guess."
She noticed a shadow pass over his features but she was still too confused to ask more questions.
He nudged her shoulders again as if to say it's alright.
A moment later, Colt popped his head through the door to call out to her. "Hey, Tala. Let me drive you home."
She turned to Logan and he gave her a smile and a nod.
He gave Colt the same quick acknowledgement but without the same warmth as he watched them head out into the garage.
They took Tala's car but she insisted Colt drove.
Her head was still spinning with questions and she wasn't sure she could focus on the road - not when there were a thousand words left unsaid from the night before.
Colt seemed to sense her tension and he reached out to give her hand a squeeze. "Why don't we go get drinks?"
--
They picked up a couple of shakes from Star's and Tala had to fight through a stutter as she placed their orders. She kept remembering the day they made the stupid bet and Colt was obviously thinking the same thing, wrapping an arm around her waist when he caught her sneaking a glance at the table they sat in the week before.
They parked by a scenic overlook with a decent view of the city. Colt helped her perch herself on top of the hood of the car before handing her a milkshake.
"Good?" He watched her take a sip as he settled next to her.
Tala nodded but she couldn't really taste her drink as her mind raced.
She took a deep breath and braced herself against the car. "Colt, we need to talk."
She squeezed her eyes shut, waiting for his response, but when it didn't come, she turned and found him watching her, waiting for her to speak.
"Last night was-"
"Yeah."
"But your dad, Kaneko, he-"
"I know."
"And my dad, he-"
"I know."
Tala felt like she was pushing boulders up her throat. Every word was heavier than the last.
But really, she didn't need to say anything. She could tell Colt had been thinking about it too. This close, she could see the faint dark circles under his eyes, proof that he might have stayed up all night just like her.
They kept quiet for a few minutes, looking out over the city lights.
Tala pretended they were stars. She desperately wanted them to be. If there was ever a night when she needed to make a wish, this was it.
"You know, my mom-" Colt broke the silence, a little unsure. "She left my Pop so I can have a better life. She used to be a driver for the crew but she left it all behind. And my Pop really isn't happy that I came back anyway."
He gave a bitter laugh as he fiddled with his cup.
"Your parents loved each other. But they loved you more and wanted what was best for you."
"Maybe."
Tala watched as Colt considered his next words.
He put his drink down and turned to her, jaws set and a dark look in his eyes.
"What if some things are doomed from the start?"
She understood what he meant and her stomach dropped at the words.
"We're not our parents."
"Aren't we? We've known each other- what? Two weeks? How can we be sure?"
They couldn't.
Tala knew they were barreling down a similar path, two people with diverging fates. As much as they were alike, she could enumerate far more things that set them apart.
Her mind whirled, scanning for an answer, and before she knew it, she was rambling - "Ok, psychologically speaking, the chances of us-" She winced at the word. She wasn't sure if Colt was comfortable using it but she soldiered on. "Us working out, are heavily influenced by learned behaviors we picked up from our parents. But-"
Tala was aware she was grasping at straws but damn her if she didn't put her AP psych classes to good use when she needed it most.
When she'd finished her speech, she covered her face and groaned into her hands before looking up at Colt.
She fully expected him to make fun of her but instead, he was listening to her intently.
He had a smile on his face but he didn't laugh.
"Sorry, I kind of nerded out for a second."
"Don't be." He shrugged and lay down on top of the car. "I like that you're smart."
He was looking up at the sky but Tala swore she could see a hint of a blush at the tip of his ears.
Tala smirked as she propped herself over him by her arm.
"What else do you like about me?"
He laughed and sat up, pulling Tala closer to him by her waist. "Are you just fishing for compliments now, Tala?"
She rolled her eyes and closed the gap between them with a kiss, holding on to his jacket for support.
He kissed her back softly at first, pulling back a little to give her a chance to reconsider. Slowly, what little restraint they had melted away as Tala pulled Colt up to his feet to stand in front of her. He kept her steady on the hood of the car, one of his hands on her lower back and the other pulling her close.
Tala's mind reeled with every kiss. She nearly forgot what they had been talking about until an idea popped into her head.
"What?" Colt raised an eyebrow as Tala pulled away, a wicked glint in her eyes.
"I bet..." She leaned back in for another kiss, half whispering. "We can make it work."
She could feel him smiling against her. The soft flutter of his lashes tickled her cheek.
"Those are very poor odds, Tala." His voice came out hoarse when he spoke.
"You don't seem like the type to quit because of poor odds." She met his eyes with a challenge.
"I'd have to be an idiot to take that bet."
"Perfectly on brand for you then." She smirked.
He laughed before placing a quick kiss under her jaw and burying his face into the crook of her neck.
He stayed there for a few seconds and Tala could feel the rise and fall of his chest against her. Her own chest was threatening to explode as her heart hammered louder with each passing second.
It was barely a minute but she felt an eternity pass in the quiet.
Tala knew whatever they decided on tonight won't change what awaited them tomorrow.
Being with Colt was going to be risky. But she wanted to take a chance on him. On this. On them.
As long as he was willing to stand right next to her.
When Colt finally pulled away to face Tala, his eyes were warm and gentle but his expression held the resolve of a man about to go to battle.
"Alright, Tala. You've got yourself a bet."
xx

Samoa, country in the central South Pacific Ocean, among the westernmost of the island countries of Polynesia.
According to legend, Samoa is known as the “Cradle of Polynesia” because Savai‘i island is said to be Hawaiki, the Polynesian homeland. Samoan culture is undoubtedly central to Polynesian life, and its styles of music, dance, and visual art have gained renown throughout the Pacific islands and the world. The country’s international image is that of a tropical paradise inhabited by tourist-friendly flower-wreathed peoples. Yet this belies the economic, social, and political challenges of this diverse and evolving Pacific microstate. Samoa gained its independence from New Zealand in 1962 after more than a century of foreign influence and domination, but it remains a member of the Commonwealth. The country was known as Western Samoa until 1997. Its capital and main commercial centre is Apia, on the island of Upolu.
Close kinship ties within the villages traditionally bound Samoans into a collectivist society, but a cash economy developed following European contact, mainly based on agricultural exports. Tourism, services, and light manufacturing became increasingly important after 1950. Other major sources of capital now include remittances from Samoans living abroad (mainly in the United States and New Zealand), which account for as much as one-sixth of household income, and grants from the United States, the United Nations, the Commonwealth, and other foreign entities.
Agriculture accounts for two-fifths of Samoa’s gross domestic product (GDP) and nearly two-thirds of the workforce; however, production does not meet local demand, and large quantities of food are imported. Major crops include coconuts, taro, pineapples, mangoes, and other fruits. Typhoons caused widespread damage in the 1990s to several crops, including taro, which was also devastated by taro leaf blight. Cattle, pigs, and poultry are raised for local consumption. Forestry has made increasing contributions to the economy, partly because of the government’s replanting programs. The Samoan fishing industry remains small, based primarily on catches made from outrigger canoes.
Samoa has few natural resources apart from its agricultural lands, surrounding waters, and pleasant scenery and climate; nearly half of the land area is covered by forests. Hydroelectric power provides most of the country’s energy needs; petroleum-fired thermal generators account for much of the remainder.
Samoa’s diversified light manufactures include beer, cigarettes, coconut products (mainly creams and oils), corned beef, soap, paint, soft drinks and juices, and handicrafts. Most are produced for local markets. A Japanese-owned electric assembly plant, which opened in the 1990s, is Samoa’s leading employer after the national government.
The currency of Samoa is the tala, which consists of 100 sene (“cents”). The money supply is controlled and regulated by the Central Bank of Samoa, which was established in 1984. Samoa also has several commercial banks. Banking and finance account for only a tiny fraction of employment, although numerous companies have registered in Samoa since offshore banking services were initiated in 1988.
Samoa has a persistently negative balance of trade. Major trading partners include New Zealand, China, Australia, the United States, and Japan. Food, industrial supplies, machinery, consumer goods, and petroleum products are the main imports. Coconut products, copra, cacao, and beer account for a majority of exports.
Government (including education) and tourism are the foundations of Samoa’s service sector. Tourism has been an increasing source of foreign exchange, with a steady supply of visitors from American Samoa and growing numbers from New Zealand, Australia, the United States, and Europe. Popular tourist sites, in addition to Samoa’s white-sand beaches, include Mulinu‘u, where the parliament and traditional meeting and burial grounds are located; Fuipisia Falls, which descends some 180 feet (55 metres); and Vailima, where the last home of the 19th-century Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson (and for a time the residence of the head of state) serves as a museum.
Nearly two-thirds of Samoans are farmers or agricultural workers. About one-fifth of the population works in government, tourist, or other service sectors, and the central government is Samoa’s single largest employer. There are several trade unions in Samoa, though only a small percentage of the country’s workforce are members. The majority of the country’s workforce are men, but women are expected to play an increasing role. In 1991 the Ministry of Women’s Affairs was established to encourage and promote women’s employment.
More than half of the government’s revenue comes from taxes, and nearly one-third is from grants. In 1994 a value-added tax on goods and services was introduced amid great protest.
International flights connect the islands with American Samoa, Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, and Japan. Regular shipping services link with ports abroad, including those in Hawaii and California to the northeast and Fiji, New Zealand, and Australia to the southwest. About two-fifths of Samoan roadways are paved, including many coastal highways and the major streets of Apia. There are no railways.
Samoa has several thousand telephones in use, as well as international phone connections via undersea cable and satellite. The number of cellular phones in use has increased rapidly since the mid-1990s.
Finally, I will leave a link which includes all companies and enterprises in Samoa, for those who want to research and discover more about this country. Thanks for reading.

-- Kalos Arc II: Exploration (5)
Tumblr media
The next two weeks found them on the road leading out of Camphrier Town and to Route 7 where the Battle Chateau laid. Spending some time there and battling as well as making sure their pokemon were on their A-game. After confirming they were ready a few days later, the couple and their pokemon made their way towards Connecting Cave, and deciding to spend the night in said cave due to a thunderstorm passing through, the couple found themselves exploring.
Being easily startled by some pokemon amidst it all, the couple ended up sharing their food with not just owned but wild.
The next morning found them in Cyllage City, a city by a mountain and a sea and known for a 'twist'... or so it read. That being said they the third badge was in range as well -- or at least Leon would have liked to say but its gym leader, Grant, had to have them wait for a few days while one of his younger rock-types recovered. Understanding this, Leon and Ashe set out to explore and in two days time, they met him for the match.
Grant was the rock-type specialist of Kalos, as well as renowned mountain climber. After Ashe, Merlin, and Joker were seated, the battle was prepared. Opting for a three versus three as per Kalos rules for the first four gym battles, his first pokemon was Barbaracle. Leon opted for his Leafeon, Tala, to take this one out quickly. Joker watched intently his senior in the grass-type department as she cast Sunny Day to counter Rain Dance and used Grass Whistle to slow it down and then finish it off with a Swords Dance-boosted Leaf Blade in quick agile movements. However, once the Barbaracle fell, one of Grant's two aces and partners was sent out; Aurorus.
Aurorus stared down Tala with a icy snort rolling from her nostrils. Forced to recall her despite her growling, Leon called out his Urshifu, Miyagi, this time. It was his first battle in Kalos, and Leon knew he had the full advantage with Miyagi on the field. The two titans clashed and despite the Aurorus' bulk and training, it was no match for Miyagi's attacks and despite being hurt, Miyagi stood tall. Next came the final pokemon -- an Aerodactyl with a collar containing a Mega Stone was seen.
Returning Miyagi and calling forth Bahamut. The two began an aerial battle and the two were soon in Mega Evolution form in a colliding of attacks. Getting nailed by a few Rock Slides, Bahamut was still able to stand against the Aerodactyl and bring it down. Landing and panting, the Charizard returned to normal and with Leon thanking him, Grant returned his Aerodactyl and brought the Cliff Badge to Leon, thanking him for a great battle and wished him well on his journey. Taking it and thanking him as well, the couple were soon on their way once Ashe returned her own pokemon and Bahamut was in his pokeball.
Once that was done, the pokemon center was headed too and the pokemon were dropped off to heal. After that, a dinner was in order, and then they were off to the hotel they were going to stay in with their pokemon left to heal over night.
Next stop, a quick trip south to Ambrette Town.

Rise- Katy Perry (Tala Remix)
No Youtube link available! Well.
It’s been a year since Witness, which we needed to create a Protection Program from, and the surreal Witness Worldwide promo launch, which felt like an asylum challenge from The Sims 2. I haven’t listened to it yet out of principle (and judging by her American Idol paycheck, she isn’t hurting for the stream), but here’s a random remix for an Olympics single. I have no clue how this happened. Tala is an electronic musician with Middle Eastern sounds and she’s only had EPs so far. Her most high profile moment has been working with Banks. They’re not even on the same label, so it isn’t a promotional plan. Katy didn’t even touch this sound on her album so I have no clue how this happened. I don’t even remember the quality of the remix because this is such a random anecdote, but upon relisten, it just sounds like something that would play in a Zara.
I think it’s more of a Bionic than a Britney Jean or an Artpop regarding its quality, but Witness didn’t have any camp value which made it misunderstood by the GP. It was just a half ass attempt at something new. Not only was this her second flop era (screaming that we thought Prism was a flop), but it was her second fake out dark/serious/personal era. She could have had a sunny 90′s alt California power pop ska punk album. She could work with Blood Orange, Charli XCX, or Kevin Parker. Gregg Araki could’ve direct an album visual.
I always see people call Katy the Paula Abdul of today (even before she joined American Idol) but at least Paula was one of the biggest people in a brand new genre (new jack swing), made an album that played to her strengths (the house heavy Spellbound, made for the dance floor), generally knew her vocal limitations (who would fake that voice), and went out with a great and truly different final album (a trippy Middle eastern lead single, the song Ho Down...). If she kept Spinning Around for herself, who knows where the world would be today. So the moral of the story is, listen to Head over Heels.
Well, I guess we also saw both of their unedited selves in a candid documentary program....
