This is what will change the auto industry FOREVER
The new wave of electric vehicles has officially begun. Analysts at Bloomberg have predicted that, within two decades, over half of vehicle sales will be electric. Electric vehicles are safer, environmentally friendly, and fast. Very fast. For example, the new Tesla Roadster 2 currently in development will go 0-60 in under two seconds. Speed is only one of many astounding features such as:
- Battery capacities ranging from 200-600 miles depending on the model
- Autonomous driving
- Oil-free engines (saving you money on oil changes)
- Part detecting software telling you when it’s time for replacement parts
(soon the car will even order them for you)
- Supercharging capabilities allowing a full charge within 30 minutes
and much more.
As society makes the move from gas powered vehicles to electric vehicles, many aspects of our daily commutes will be improved upon dramatically. Sick of being suck in traffic for what seems like an eternity? Good news, as these electric vehicles autonomous driving features are enhanced, we will see a “network” of communicating vehicles that efficiently navigate in correspondence with one another. Essentially, these cars will work together to prevent traffic jams. On top of a shorter commute, you can now enjoy your breakfast and coffee with both hands (NOT encouraging eating and driving even if we are all guilty) as AI begins to “take the wheel” for you.
Many people have expressed their concerns with the battery capacity of these electric vehicles with good reason. The first available fully electric vehicles to the market had very limited range (100-150 miles), and comparatively to gas cars that is a significant downgrade. However, as the battery cell technology has evolved the capacities of the new vehicles has significantly been upgraded to nearly double that.
Traditional auto makers have been reluctant to hop on the electric vehicle production train due to poor demand, but as shown in the graphi, projected demand is on the rise.
Tumblr media
Graphic: Peter Valdes-Dapena and Tal Yellin, CNN
Due to this increased demand, in the next 5 years we will see new electric vehicles from large automakers like Volkswagen, Mini, Honda, Porsche, Peugeot, Seat, Polestar, Byton, Aston Martin, Lotus, Tesla, Audi, Ford, BMW and more. Electric vehicles are worth considering for those in the market for a new car, not just because they are environmentally friendly, but because they make sense. Everything you need to know about bitcoin There is speculation that as more financial institutions invest in bitcoin, more companies will join. Some investors believe that it could be a good hedge against inflation and a weak dollar. The Federal Reserve cut interest rates in March 2020, severely weakening the US dollar and shooting up the price of bitcoin. So if you’ve been ignoring bitcoin thinking it might just be a financial fad, now’s the time to start paying attention. Here’s what you need to know. Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency created in 2009 by an unknown person using the alias Satoshi Nakamoto. Transactions are anonymous and are made with no brokers or intermediaries. You can’t physically use bitcoin — it’s a digital currency. And it’s decentralized, meaning that it isn’t controlled by a bank or government. At this very moment it can be used everywhere from Overstock.com to PayPal — and that list is expanding quickly. A lot of people also see bitcoin as a good investment. And that’s certainly been true this week, considering that bitcoin surpassed $60,000 this week. In January, the cryptocurrency hit records of over $40,000. Where can I buy bitcoin? Bitcoin is 100% digital. Marketplaces called “bitcoin exchanges” allow people to buy or sell bitcoins using different traditional currencies. Coinbase is a leading exchange, along with Coinmama, CEX.IO and Gemini. Where do I keep my bitcoin? Bitcoin is stored in a digital wallet, which is either on the cloud or your computer. It’s like having a virtual bank account. But unlike bank accounts, stored bitcoin isn’t insured by the FDIC. Wait, what does Elon Musk have to do with this? Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has a history of tweeting support for assets and sending their value soaring, and the world’s richest man is very big bitcoin booster. “I think [bitcoin] is on the verge of getting broad acceptance by conventional finance people,” Musk said in a recent interview on the audio-only social app Clubhouse. Not long after that he formalized Tesla’s relationship with the crypto, the corporate announcements started flowing. Is bitcoin safe? The cryptocurrency is highly volatile, and therefore very risky. For example, in January bitcoin’s value rose to $42,000, fell to $30,000, then rose again to $40,000 — all in the course of one week. And there some inherent dangers to a digital currency: A hacked server, a deleted file or a lost password could mean the funds are lost forever. -— CNN’s Paul R. Damien Hirst’s 60-foot-tall bronze colossus was acquired by a Las Vegas casino.

They say what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but what happens in Venice apparently ends up in Vegas, too. On Thursday the Palms Casino Resort announced that it had acquired Damien Hirst’s towering sculpture Demon with Bowl (2014), which was the star of his 2017 exhibition at François Pinault’s two Venice spaces, the Palazzo Grassi and the Punta della Dogana, “Treasures From the Wreck of the Unbelievable.”
The version that was actually on view in Venice, an exhibition copy made of resin because bronze was too heavy for the venue, was subsequently destroyed. The colossal sculpture acquired by the Palms is a 60-foot-tall bronze, one of three editions and two artist’s proofs created for the show. At the time, the bronzes were priced at $14 million; a spokesperson for the Palms declined to give the price of the Palms edition. It is currently being assembled at the resort, which is in the midst of a $690-million renovation, and will be unveiled this spring in its new hotel pool.
The corally colossus won’t be the only Hirst at the Palms. One of the British art star’s shark tank sculptures is the centerpiece of the resort’s Unknown bar, which Hirst designed himself and for which he created 16 new spot paintings. The bar is just one of many art-filled spaces unveiled in May 2018 as part of the Palms’s revamp, which got underway after the art collector brothers Frank and Lorenzo Fertita bought the casino and resort for $312.5 million in 2016. There are also Jean-Michel Basquiat paintings at the steakhouse, Dustin Yellin sculptures at the social club, and works by KAWS, Andy Warhol, Richard Prince, Christopher Wool, and other blue chip artists peppered throughout, all under the guidance of Palms curator Tal Cooperman. Some of the works at the Palms are on loan from the Fertita brothers’ collections, while others were commissioned by the resort.

Trump is handing Biden a booming inventory market A glance again: Shares shot up after Trump’s 2017 tax cuts supercharged company earnings, then plunged at file velocity when Covid-19 started battering the USA. Since then, nonetheless, they have been rocketing increased, repeatedly reaching all-time highs. Deep political polarization and a worsening pandemic haven’t been sufficient to carry Wall Avenue again. Regardless of this sharp rally, shares underneath President Donald Trump haven’t carried out in addition to they did throughout the first phrases of Presidents Invoice Clinton or Barack Obama, in accordance with an evaluation by my CNN Enterprise colleagues Matt Egan, Annalyn Kurtz and Tal Yellin. And among the current will increase may be attributed to Biden’s win, which buyers consider will generate substantial authorities spending to spice up the financial system. Shares have gained about 13% since Election Day as of Tuesday — the most effective post-election market efficiency for a brand new president in fashionable historical past, in accordance with CFRA Analysis. Biden has not put as a lot emphasis as Trump on shares as a gauge of the nation’s power or wellbeing. “The concept the inventory market is booming is his solely measure of what is taking place,” Biden stated of Trump within the closing presidential debate in October. “The place I come from in Scranton and Claymont, the folks do not reside off of the inventory market.” (Per the newest Gallup ballot, 55% of People have some publicity to the inventory market, many by retirement accounts.) Even so, Wall Avenue can be watching to see if market momentum may be maintained. Chatter has elevated in current weeks that company valuations, notably within the tech sector, have jumped too excessive. “Many buyers fear that the fairness market has rebounded too far and too quick and that there are indicators of extra beginning to emerge in components of the monetary system,” Peter Oppenheimer, Goldman Sachs’ chief world fairness strategist, instructed shoppers this week. “This can be a affordable concern provided that the rebound in equities because the bear market trough in March of final yr has been exceptional.” Oppenheimer stated that whereas a correction — or a ten% decline in shares from their current peak — seems to be “more and more doubtless,” the chances that shares will enter a brand new bear market, dropping 20% from current highs, within the subsequent yr seem “pretty low.” He factors to expectations of sturdy world financial progress in 2021 because the pandemic eases, in addition to “unprecedented” coverage help. On that entrance, nonetheless, unknowns stay. Whereas Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell has emphasised that rates of interest might stay at historic lows for the foreseeable future, the destiny of Biden’s $1.9 trillion stimulus package deal will depend on his capacity to generate some Republican help. In a divided Washington, that can be no simple activity. Netflix comes of age because it hits 200 million subscribers Netflix (NFLX) has come a good distance because it launched in 1997 to ship clients DVDs within the mail. The most recent: The streaming service instructed buyers on Tuesday that it now has greater than 200 million subscribers globally, after including 8.5 million within the fourth quarter of 2020 — beating its personal expectations. It wasn’t the one signal that Netflix has developed right into a mature participant in Hollywood and on Wall Avenue. The corporate additionally stated that it’ll now not have to borrow cash to finance day-to-day operations, and that it’ll discover returning money to shareholders by inventory buybacks. Investor perception: Shares are up 13% in premarket buying and selling, teeing them as much as hit an all time excessive on Wednesday. Competitors within the streaming market stays fierce, after all. ViacomCBS’ newly rebranded streaming service, Paramount+, will go reside in early March, the corporate stated Tuesday — becoming a member of an more and more crowded subject that additionally consists of Disney+, Apple TV+, Amazon Prime Video, Comcast’s Peacock, AT&T’s HBO Max, and extra. However buyers suppose Netflix seems to be in an excellent place to take care of its spot on the entrance of the pack. UBS, for instance, upgraded the corporate’s shares to a “purchase” ranking after it posted earnings, citing continued sturdy world subscriber progress “even [against] rising competitors [and] sturdy progress” within the first half of 2020. Wealthy Greenfield of LightShed Companions identified on Twitter that whereas buyers beforehand appeared anxious about how Netflix was going to finance its large content material manufacturing machine, the tone has shifted. The query now, he says: “What are you going to do with all of the money you’ll begin producing in 2022 and past?” Janet Yellen previews Biden’s powerful stance on China Janet Yellen, President-elect Joe Biden’s nominee to guide the Treasury Division, has made clear the incoming administration will keep a troublesome method to coping with China — setting the stage for extended tensions between the world’s two largest economies. Testifying earlier than the Senate Finance Committee on Tuesday, Yellen promised to tackle “China’s abusive, unfair and unlawful practices.” “China is undercutting American corporations by dumping merchandise, erecting commerce boundaries and giving freely subsidies to companies,” she stated. Yellen added that whereas the Biden group would work with US allies, versus performing unilaterally, she is ready to make use of the “full array of instruments” to deal with such issues. Biden has stated that he won’t rapidly get rid of Trump-era tariffs on Chinese language items. The stance was echoed by Antony Blinken, Biden’s nominee to guide the State Division, in his feedback Tuesday earlier than the Senate Overseas Relations Committee. “President Trump was proper in taking a harder method to China,” Blinken stated. “I disagree, very a lot, with the way in which that he went about it in numerous areas, however the primary precept was the precise one.” What it means: The battle between the USA and China on commerce and expertise has been a key supply of uncertainty for buyers over the previous 4 years. Beneath Biden, that is not going away. Up subsequent Joe Biden can be sworn in as the subsequent president of the USA at 12 p.m. ET. Additionally at present: BNY Mellon, Morgan Stanley (MS), Procter & Gamble (PG) and UnitedHealth (UNH) report earnings earlier than US markets open. Alcoa (AA) and United Airways (UAL) observe after the shut. Coming tomorrow: Economists anticipate one other 910,000 first-time claims for unemployment advantages, an indication of US labor market weak spot.
