when I was in college my freshman year I actually couldn’t participate in most of freshman orientation week because I had marching band camp (mostly just intense preparation for the season where we do nothing but band from dawn to well past dusk for the entire week)

but there was one day of the week where marching band was going to start a little later so I could join with the freshman stuff in the morning a little bit before I had to go

I play trumpet

I’d been getting up at dawn literally the entire week, I was the first one up when the student guides/leaders where waiting for everyone. They saw I had a trumpet and were getting tired of waiting for the entire rest of the hallway of the dorms to come out

they asked me “hey can you play our fight song and wake everyone up?”

in high school I had the rep of being the loudest trumpet, and oftentimes brass in general

Gripping the communicator, the bright yellow case with a cartoonish 'T' on top glared back at him.

(The portal was growing.)

He presses the button, the communicator switches on and he calls out.

"Phantom to Titans, do you hear me? Phantom to Titans."

The crackling sound came as a sign of connection, It didn't take any heavy weight off, however.

"Robin here, Phantom? Everything alright?" The soothing voice of Teen Titans leader answers him, and he suppresses a sigh.

"Robin," he bites his lip, the portal only growing.

The ghost zone is eating Amity and all just because fucking Vlad couldn't, for one ancient time, sit still.

"I—" a deep breath. "I'm sorry," he apologises with a wince. "You're gonna be really angry at me when you... find out."

Concern leaks through the voice as Robin speaks. "Phantom? What's going on?"

Thr screen on the communicator switches on and Robins brow knitted expression stares back at him.

It quickly changes, alarmed. "Phantom." The vigilante says. "Is Amity Park okay? Do you need backup?"

Always on the right track, dear leader. Danny shakes his head fondly.

"It's too late for backup," he admits quietly.

"Phan—"

"Just tell new members of me, okay?"

Danny doesn't let the other finish, giving a bitter smile before throwing the communicator on the ground, breaking it.

The familiar yet threatening green of the ghost zone welcomes him.

"Titans! Emergency call, Phantom got a situation!"

The bright red lights is enough for the rest of the team to flood to the common room.

"Rob?" Cyborg asks. "What's the situation?"

"We don't know!" The bird answers, stressed. He's pulling the audio and video recording of the call up to the monitor, replaying it for the team.

They don't figure it out until they are at Amity, landing with the jet and jumping from their seats.

Raven and Starfire fly ahead, and they all reach the border of Amity.

Or what of Amity remains.

Because–

The entire city is gone—!!

Complete annihilation.

(When robin finds out who did this, he will have words with them.)

"Robin," Raven waves them all over to her side. She's crouching, hand in a sphere of black, her magic. "Amity wasn't destroyed. It was relocated."

Her expression is grim. "Someone abducted a whole city."

All he does is nod, looking at the team before him.

"Someone call Herald, Titans, we got work to do. Our mission is to find Amity Park, Phantom, and save both." With sombre nods, they prepared for take off.

"Titans! Go!"

And they separate.

Foolish going in with two totems as a part-totem who never, never uses totems. His screams for Leo as the ceiling caves in, trying desperately to throw her a totem through the barrier. Digging, trying to glitch, trying to problem solve in a situation so chaotic and so impossible, there’s just nothing he can do. Not leaving until his totem pops - until he can’t see Leo anymore. Repeating to himself that she was right there, just right there, he couldn’t even get her a totem, he couldn’t do anything.

Foolish staying behind to make sure Tina and Mouse get out, to make sure he sticks with Cellbit, telling himself he can feel it later, as long as they survive, he can feel it later - and running out of time. If he hadn’t stayed behind digging for Leo, he would have made it. If he hadn’t given all but one of his enderpearls to the others, he would have made it. If he wasn’t looking over his shoulder for Cellbit, he would have made it.

Wait, wait, wait, it just hit me. 3/4 dead eggs have parents on Bolas Rojas now. Charlie Slimecicle, Jaiden and Roier, and Max. Mariana is the only parent to a dead egg that isn't on Bolas Rojas. (I am not counting Q as he technically didn't make it to Purgatory). There's a tragedy there.

Nobody fought like this when their eggs were lost. Max couldn't get to Trumpet in time. Jaiden and Roier only got ten minutes with Bobby after they were promised more. Charlie Slimecicle keeps losing JuanaFlippa over and over again. It was a quiet tragedy every time. There was the sound of crying and screaming, all the tell-tale signs of grief, but it wasn't loud and explosive like this. The tragedy could be explosive, but it isn't, not yet.

Roier runs into battle now under a red banner with his sword still etched with their, his and Jaiden's, son's name. The tragedy won't be quiet this time. Ten minutes should be more than enough time.

If you listen closely, while in the unground base of Bolas Rojas, you can hear the quiet laughter of three children echoing through the cave network. They're having fun playing a game, too.

public libraries are incredible. i borrowed a violin from mine. i can't read music and have never even held a violin before in my life but sometimes when i listen to music i imagine that i am a virtuoso violinist performing for a crowd of thousands and now i have the chance to actually try one out. FOR FREE. i can renew it up to three times, that's NINE WEEKS of free violin. i just walked up to the desk and asked if i could borrow a violin and the librarian asked to see my card and then i walked away with a violin. support your local libraries, kids.
