Tamagotchi Original Demand in North America & Europe Proved Demand for Tamagotchi Uni Global Release

Love them or hate them, the Tamagotchi Original is one of the reasons why the Tamagotchi Uni was released globally. In a recent Nikkei Business Publications article where Takahiro Mizunio, Director and Chief Tamagotchi Officer, and Hirohiko Sekito, Global Toy Planning Department Planning Team Manager were featured we learned more about the reasoning behind the global release.

Takahiro acknowledged that the Tamagotchi Original has become a mega-hit product with shipments of approximately 4.4 million units in Europe and the United States between 2018 and 2022. As the Tamagotchi Original was re-released in North America, the Tamagotchi was discovered more and more and people started enjoying it as a fashion item instead of accessories, inflicters and celebrities wore them.
Takahiro also mentioned the desire to communicate with others around the world utilizing the internet was a key driver for a global release too.
Tamagotchi Original’s are extremely popular, and have seen several designs. Although you might have Tamagotchi Original fatigue, it’s important to note that these do sell, and they sell well. It helps get consumers into the brand from the nostalgia, and then further in with newer devices such as the Tamagotchi Uni.
The Tamagotchi Original demand impressed Bandai Japan and helped influence a global release of the Tamagotchi Uni. And for that, we thank you, we love you, Tama-Palace.
