April 11-14, Xi'an, China:
Some pictures of the cultural landmarks of Xi'an and some miscellaneous pics to wrap up the posts about my Xi'an trip:
First is the Bell Tower/钟楼 and Drum Tower/鼓楼 of Xi'an. The Bell Tower and the Drum Tower of Xi'an were built in 1384 and 1380 respectively, during the reign of Emperor Taizu of Ming (personal name Zhu Yuanzhang, aka that one emperor who was a beggar). Both towers were rebuilt during Qing dynasty, then repaired extensively in the latter half of 20th century.
This square-ish tower is the Bell Tower:
Tumblr media
The hotel we stayed at was fairly close to the Bell Tower so I was able to get a couple more pictures of it, but we didn't go inside either towers though. I kind of regret that, but I regret not being able to go to the Shaanxi History Museum more.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Side note: the Tang-era Jingyun Bell/景云钟 used to be inside this tower (hence the name), where it would sound in the mornings to signal the beginning of the day. However, the Jingyun Bell was moved to Beilin Museum in 1953 for conservation purposes, which was also where I saw the real thing (see my earlier post about Beilin Museum), but a tour guide told me it would be moved again soon to another (indoor) museum, where it would stay for the foreseeable future. The bell that is inside the Bell Tower right now is a modern working replica of the Jingyun Bell.
Tumblr media
And now the rectangular Drum Tower. The drums in the tower used to sound in the evenings, signaling the end of the day. This is summed up in the term 晨钟暮鼓, or "morning bell tolls and evening drum beats".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The bian'e/匾额 sign on the south side of the Drum Tower reads 文武盛地 (traditionally Chinese reads from right to left when written horizontally), which translates to "the place where literary and martial arts flourish". The bian'e itself is 8m (~26.2 ft) long and weighs 2-3 metric tons (about as heavy as a SUV). The bian'e on the north side of the Drum Tower reads 声闻于天, which translates to "a sound heard even in the heavens", referring to the sound of the drums. The phrase itself came from the poem "A Crane Cries" (鹤鸣; translation may vary depending on the translator) from the Classic of Poetry/《诗》.
Tumblr media
On to notable souvenirs from random shops:
Tang-era style Thicc Beefcake Horses 👌
Tumblr media
Left: figurines of (mostly) Tang-era girls. Right: a type of candy from Sichuan called "dogshit candy"/狗屎糖 (yes that's really the name lol) made from soy beans, peanuts, and barley malt syrup (called maiyatang/麦芽糖). The smaller text on the bottom of the bag reads "eat dogshit candy and you will have dogshit luck", which actually means good luck btw, because the chances of stepping on dog doo-doo is actually kinda low if you think about it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And last but not least, the ancient city walls of Xi'an. The city walls that we see here were built at the beginning of Ming dynasty (latter half of 14th century), but analysis of the cross section revealed that it also contained sections of the Tang-era (618 - 907), Song-era (960 - 1279), and Yuan-era (1206 - 1368) city walls within it in layers. These walls are 12m (39.4ft) tall and the top of the wall is 12-14m (39.4-46ft) wide, enough to pass multiple horse-drawn carts at once, which was important for the defense of the city. Below is the Anyuan Gate/安远门 (the north gate), and this used to be where the Tang-era Taiji Palace/太极宫 (not to be confused with Taiji Hall of the Forbidden City) wall connected with the Eastern Palace/东宫, where the crown prince resided:
Tumblr media
Coming around the side gate of Anyuan Gate. There's also a moat (护城河 in Chinese, lit. "protect city river"), but I didn't take pictures of it.
Tumblr media
Outside the Shangwu Gate/尚武门. 尚武 roughly translates to "respect of the martial". There used to be draw bridges outside these gates as well, but for ease of modern transportation, most of them have been rebuilt as fixed bridges with roads on top for vehicles and pedestrians. The only draw bridge that has been rebuilt (that I know of) was the one outside the Yongning Gate/永宁门 aka the southern gate.
Tumblr media
Leaving Xi'an city. These are the corner towers of the city wall:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Two cute sculptures inside the Xi'an Xianyang International Airport/西安咸阳国际机场, the left one represents Shaanxi's Qinqiang/秦腔 folk opera, and the right one is, of course, the famous terra cotta soldier:
Tumblr media
Goodbye Xi'an! Hopefully I can come back in the future and go to Shaanxi History Museum..........

More Taizu headcanons
Because why not...
They built a shack next to Master Eiji's forge with the stipulation they will have a really thick wall. Sword Father refuses to deal with their loud shenanigans regardless of cause.
Taigen knows how to play the Koto really well. Sometimes he plays it when Mizu can't sleep because it helps relax her, other times he does it as a serenade because he's that kind of guy.
They swap outfits from time to time. They think its funny. Ringo not so much.
They named their first born Eiji.
Taigen has one tickle spot in a very specific area. Mizu knows exactly where it is. Mizu has ticklish feet but also has a very strong kick response to any attempts to tickle.
During the delivery of their first child, Taigen almost died in childbirth. Not from being pregnant obviously. It was because Mizu kept hurting him when the labor pains came on.
They have matching custom naginatas, a present from Akemi and Takayoshi.
They comb each other's hair after baths. They cut each other's hair when it gets too long. Taigen makes sure Mizu isn't pissed on the day she cuts his hair.
I HAVE SOME SILLY HEADCANONS FOR THEM

hii! was wondering if you will be writing a fic based on the bes basketball au or is it just strictly comics for now? just kinda interested in reading a full length fic. the hcs we got so far just aren't enough to fuel my nba mizu brainrot 🧎😮‍💨
hello!! tysm for this question
I'm only making art for BES bball au because I'm interested in the visuals and getting better at drawing. I'm very new to fanfic writing, "like water" is my first fic and I need to write the taizu porn or else i'll implode, similar to how the BES bball art needs to get out of me or else I spontaneously combust
THAT. SAID. I'm fueling my delulu era by believing that if I can hype up the bball au enough then some kind soul out there might help me write the fanfic!!
I live off of your guys' interaction and creativity (I consider all funny tags and comments creativity). ngl I woke up this morning knowing I had to go to work almost ready to give up on bball au content but @fuukonomiko single handedly brought me back with their HC in my inbox so everybody that is waiting for bball content should go shake fuuko's hand for talking me off the ledge
if you make content/art/fanfics etc for bes bball au, I will be your fucking pet and do whatever you want me to do!!! use my delulu to your advantage and keep feeding me
same if not DOUBLE DAMAGE goes to any content/art/fanfics etc for my "like water" fanfic. in fact, i'm generally so good about replying to everyone's comments everywhere on every platform, but i cannot bring myself to go through my "like water" comments to thank everyone because I will literally start crying because I pushed myself really hard to write it and it makes me emotional knowing that other people like what I wrote
tl;dr ILY guys, my cup runneth over with all of your likes, comments, and funny tags. I will keep making bes content until I run out of steam but I respond extremely, extremely well to feedback, love, hate, suggestions, HCs, literally anything that lets me know I'm not just throwing my content out into the void

Henlo! I just wanted to let you know I love your „Were I your wave“ fic SO DAMN MUCH! I think I’ve read it more than once and it’s gorgeous! You wrote all the characters so damn well and I just adore it so much! I might have sum fanart for it in the oven 👉🏻👈🏻 if that’s allowed of course
So thank you so much for that delicious fic and I’ll be over here reading it over and over again from time to time 😌
Lots of love
Rotzi
(Sorry for the confusion somehow I just can ask questions from my main blog, I’m that one artist with the flowery BES pieces, rotzcake draws)
Oh my god??? Hi??? 👋
You read my fic, holy shit!! Im so glad you like it, wow, I’m so flattered I could faint!! 🥹🥹🥹 I love all your BES art– obv I love the taizu ones, but I love all of them; ot3, akemizu, no ship, all ship; you have such a magical style where I can friggin feel each piece when I look at it, down to my damn bones.
Your rough housing pieces were on my mind when I wrote my most recent uhhhh smutty au tidbit that I’m posting on ao3 in about a week; I listened to “satisfaction” while writing it because your art was such a vibe!
Which is all just to say that I would be goddamn honored if you did fan art for WIYW. I’d literally cry. Wow. Feels like Picasso just started talking to me or something, ahh!! 🧡🫡🥰
much love,
-vermin

Annals of Emperor Wen of Zhou, Part 6 (ZS01)
[Yuwen Tai rescues the Emperor and brings him to Chang'an. Alas he dies a few months later but what can you do.
Meanwhile, Gao Huan puts his own Emperor of Wei on the throne, formalising the split between Eastern and Western Wei.
Also the first appearance in these annals of one Li Hu, grandfather of a certain Li Yuan. Like Yuwen Tai, Li Hu came from the Wuchuan garrison.
This in fact concludes Scroll 1 of the Zhougshu which can be read all in one page here:
https://bookofzhou.tumblr.com/zs01
The Annals of Emperor Wen continues in Scroll 2, which chronicles Yuwen Tai's time as the chief minister of Western Wei.]
Taizu spoke to the various generals, saying:
Though Gao Huan's wisdom is insufficient, he has deceptions to spare. Now he makes noise of intending to go west, but he is thinking about entering Luo. I intend to order Kuo Luo to lead more than 10 000 cavalry and infantry to draw east from Jing# province, and Wang Pi to lead 10 000 armoured soldiers and first occupy Hua province. If Huan comes west, Wang Pi is sufficient to manage to oppose and ward him off. Similarly, if he enters Luo, Kuo Luo will immediately assail Fen and Jin. I will right away quickly harness up and proceed straight towards the capital city. [We will] make him [if] he advances have worries about interior concerns, [and if] he withdraws, to have the appearance of being followed. In a single stirring we will greatly settle [matters], this is the best strategy.
Everyone in the multitude declared it good.
Autumn, 7th Month [26 July – 24 August 534], Taizu led the multitudes to issue out from Gaoping. The van army arrived in Hongnong. But Shenwu of Qi bit by bit put pressure on the capital city. Emperor Wei personally commanded the Six Armies, and stationed at Heqiao [“He Bridge”]. He ordered the [General of] Guards of the Left, Yuan Binzhi, and the [General who] Leads the Army, Husi Chun to garrison Wulao [i.e. Hulao], and dispatched messengers to announce it to Taizu. Taizu spoke to left and right, saying:
Gao Huan in several days has travelled eight or nine hundred li. Discerning what the troops are averse to, the correct thing must be to take the advantage to strike him right away. However the Ruler and Sovereign, due to the weight of the ten thousand vehicles, is unable to decide on battle, and just now hems the fords and occupies defences. Moreover the He is ten thousand li long, and to shelter behind it is difficult. If [someone] at single place obtains a crossing, the great affair is done for.
He promptly used Great Chief Controller Zhao Gui as Acting Tribunal of a Detached Circuit, to cross over from Puban and press on to Bing province, and he dispatched Great Chief Controller Li Xian, with 1 000 elite cavalry, to hasten to Luoyang.
It happened that Binzhi and Husi Chun contended for authority and did not cooperate. Binzhi thereupon abandoned Chun and turned back, lying to the Emperor by stating that Gao Huan's troops had arrived.
7th Month, dingwei [21 August], the Emperor thereupon led light cavalry from Luoyang to enter the Passes. Taizu prepared rites and guards to offer welcome, and presented himself and was received in audience at Dongyang Relay station. Taizu took off his cap, sobbed and wept, and apologized, saying:
Your Subject was unable to put a stop to the bandits and oppressors, and thereupon caused the Driving Carriage to move his favour. [I] request arrest [by] the minister of justice in accordance with the book of punishments.
The Emperor said:
Your Excellency's loyalty and integrity is revealed to court and countryside. We, due to not being virtuous, carry the weight for causing the bandits. Seeing [you] today, [We will] very much make use of [Our] shamelessness. The responsibility lies with Our person, there is nothing to assuage or apologize for.
Then he served the Emperor in making a capital at Chang'an. He flung away the grasses and weed and established an imperial court for the government of army and state. In everything he picked Taizu to decide them. He continued with increasing his conferral to Great General, Inspector of Yong province, and Combined Prefect of the Masters Writing, advanced his fief to Duke of Lüeyang commandery, to separately set up two Masters of Writing and dispose of and allot according to the situation, and to put aside Archer-Servant of the Masters of Writing. The remaining was like before. Taizu firmly declined. A decree sincerely elucidated on it, and he therefore accepted.
Earlier, when the Wei Emperor was at Luoyang, he conferred the Senior Princess of Pingyi as a match for Taizu, but they had not yet reached the joining the together and handing over when the Emperor moved west. Reaching this point, he decreed that Taizu wed her, and designated him Chief Commandant of Escort Cavalry.
8th Month [25 August – 23 September], Shenwu of Qi assailed and captured Tong Pass, and encroached upon Huayin. Taizu led the various armies to station at Bashang to wait for him. Shenwu of Qi kept behind his general Xue Jin to defend the Pass and then withdrew. Taizu therefore advanced to chastise Jin, captured his soldiers, 7 000 men, and turned back to Chang'an. He advanced in rank to Chancellor.
Winter, 10th Month [23 October – 21 November], Shenwu of Qi pushed forward Wei's King of Qinghe, Dan's son, Shanjian as ruler, and moved the capital to Ye. This was Eastern Wei.
11th Month [22 November – 20 December], he dispatched the Ceremony Similar Li Hu, together with Li Bi, Zhao Gui, and others, to chastise Cao Ni in Ling province. Hu guided the He to pour into him. Next year [i.e. 535 AD], Ni surrendered, and they moved his prominent leaders to Xianyang.
Intercalary 12th Month [20 January – 17 February 535], the Filial and Martial [xiaowu] Emperor collapsed. Taizu, together with the crowd of excellencies, settled the records, and venerated and installed Wei's King of Nanyang, Baoju, as successor. This was the Civil [wen] August Emperor.

So... I'm currently being ordered to self isolate due to COVID-19 and the company I work for have a) been very considerate of my circumstances, which is a rarity particularly for a POC nowadays, b) continued to pay me while I am in isolation, and c) set me up with a Netflix account so that I can stay positive through this rough time.
I prayed to my drawing of Taizu for some blessings yesterday and he blessed me in a way only Taizu could.

Warning! This post contains a drawing that has some blood and gore.
Tumblr media
The two characters in this one are Rai (the one on the stairs) and Taizu (the one next to the robot)
This happens after Rai comes back after a battle with the Krecs (the main enemy to Blukens) she's badly hurt and comes down to Taizus robot making place.
Taizu of course, fixes her up, because why wouldn't they? Rai and Taizu are really close and Taizu is very skilled in robot making, in fact, they're an elite.
Rai is new to all this Bluken stuff, she's never been to Blu before (Blu is the planet Blukens live on) she was born on Earth because her mother was banished there.
But yeah, Rai is a new fighter, and isn't that great at fighting, but she wants to be an elite like her moms are. She doesn't know if that will ever happen though.
(Also there's some Bluken letters in this drawing, see if you can find out what it says with the Bluken letters page I've done)
Tumblr media
(Sorry if you guys can't tell what the bluken letters are in the first drawing, I had to make them small so they could fit)
